Alabama School Yearbooks by State and County

Donald McSpadden
Donald McSpadden, 72 of Cedar Rapids, died at the Hospice House of Mercy on Thursday, November 7, 2013. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his children, Brian (Michelle) McSpadden, Sandra (Stephen) Dighton, Ted (Michelle) McSpadden, and Rick McSpadden, all of Cedar Rapids, and Scott McSpadden of Baird; sister, Becky McSpadden of Cedar Rapids; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, Todd Schroeder, Lisa Johnson, and Matthew Stout.
Don was born August 31, 1941 in Iowa City to Donald and Opal McSpadden. He married Janet Hulseberg on December 17, 1961. She died in 1991. He then married Kristine Millhollin on August 29, 1992 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 2012. Don worked for Swiss Valley Farms for over 30 years, retiring in 2000.
Don was a member of the Eagles Club and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He enjoyed fishing, bingo, the Cubs, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with family, especially his grandchildren.
The family would like to especially thank the Hospice House of Mercy for their compassionate care
A memorial fund has been established.

Will Brown
Will Brown, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at his home following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Officiating will be Rev. Harlan Gillespie. Family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
He is survived by his children, Deborah (John) Schricker of Blue Grass, Iowa; Linda Leigh Brown of St. Paul, Minnesota; Mark W. Brown of Marion; Richard V. Brown of Iowa City; daughter-in-law Barbara Threlkeld of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Andy and Jeff DeRiemacker, Angela and Kevin Brown; a sister, Cora Lee (Richard) Widmar of Centerville, Iowa; a nephew, Michael (Angie) Widmar of Pella, and a niece, Sheila (John) Wagner of Centerville.
Will was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean Brown, and a sister, Clara Vee Eddy.
Willard Earl Brown was born July 22, 1927 the son of Earl and Emma (McNamar) Brown. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during WWII. Will was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Fisher on May 5, 1949 in Cedar Rapids. They were married for 63 years and raised four children, until she preceded him in death on March 27, 2012. Will worked as a salesman in the office supply and furniture industries, until his retirement in 2008. He was an excellent writer and poet with a great sense of humor. A wood working enthusiast, he had a special talent for hand crafting wooden clocks. He could fix or repair almost anything. Will was interested in military history, particularly regarding WWII and military aircraft. He volunteered for the Soap Box Derby Assn. for many years. A kind, good-humored and beloved man, he will be greatly missed but forever remembered.
Memorial donations in Will’s honor may be made to Faith United Methodist Church or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Dustin James Tardiff
Dustin James Tardiff, 25, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died Tuesday March 5, 2013. Services: 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his fiancé, Alicia L. Strank currently of Hickory, North Carolina; his parents, Ronald E. Jr. and Christine J. Tardiff of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Isabelle W. Tardiff and fiancé Adam Rotter of Marion; his grandparents, Ronald E. Sr. and Mary A. Tardiff of Alamogordo, New Mexico and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert D. and Evelyn V. Cold.
Dustin was born January 23, 1988 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He graduated from Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania in 2006. Dustin graduated in 2010 with highest distinction from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, a minor in Mathematics and earned a Certificate in Technological Entrepreneurship. He was active in the Society of Automotive Engineers while at the University of Iowa. Dustin and Alicia met while they were both attending the University of Iowa.
Dustin went on to receive his International Master of Business Administration degree at the University of South Carolina in 2012. He was currently working as a Senior Consultant for Ernst & Young in North Carolina and had received his Project Management Professional certificate. Dustin loved to travel internationally; as a result he was conversational in German and Spanish. Dustin enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed activities to keep physically fit and was developing an investment analysis system in his spare time. He also loved playing a spirited game of Monopoly. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established.

Beverly A. Smith
Beverly A. Smith, 82, of Marion died on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services will be held on Monday, April 1 at 1 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and attended grade and high school in Cedar Rapids. She received her Bachelors Degree from Ohio State University and her Master’s of Social Work Degree from University of California, Berkley. Beverly worked in various clinical settings in 32 years of practice. After her retirement, she volunteered at Helping Hands. Beverly enjoyed gardening and rescuing animals.
She is survived by several cousins.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Josephine Bacon.

Lloyd H. Lowry
Lloyd H. Lowry, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday March 24, 2013 in Northbrook Manor Care Center from a short illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine J. Lowry, his sons; Don A. (Rhonda) Lowry of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Richard (Lucy) Lowry of North Mankato, Minnesota, his sister-in-law, Barbara J. Lowry of Marion, Iowa, his grandchildren; Scott Lowry of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Brooke Lowry of Rochester, New York, Eric Lowry of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Christopher (Emily) Lowry of North Mankato, Minnesota and Steve Lowry of Bozeman, Montana; and one great-grandson, Quinn. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son.
Lloyd was born October 7, 1929 in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Maude Beaman Lowry. He married Lorraine Gamm on July 8, 1951 in Cedar Rapids. Lloyd worked for Rockwell in Engineer Records and retired after 40 plus years of service. He was a member of Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church and various retirees groups. He enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Anthony R. Fontana
Anthony R. Fontana, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Tuesday March 19, 2013 surrounded by his family at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his sons; Jeffrey M. Fontana and wife Debra L. of Richland Center, Wisconsin and Timothy R. Fontana and wife Donna M. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a daughter in law, Jan Fontana of Fairfield, Iowa, his grandchildren; Bradley S. Fontana of Phoenix, Arizona, Stefani F. Geurts and husband Adam of Deforest, Wisconsin, Anthony M. Fontana of Richland Center, Wisconsin, Rebecca L. Pierce and husband Chuck of Cresco, Iowa, Jodi M. Tacker and husband Jeremiah of Marion, Iowa and Sarah L. Kryger and husband James of Anamosa, Iowa, and his 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, and three sons, Thomas, Steven and Gregory, his parents and a sister, Mary Jenson.
Anthony was born February 6, 1924 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Frances Guireno Fontana. He married Marilyn J. Rooks on March 21, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Anthony was employed at Rockwell Collins in the Graphic Arts Department. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was active in the Jefferson High School Booster Club. Anthony loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. They meant everything to him. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, gardening, golf and woodworking. He also enjoyed vacationing in Orange Beach, Alabama. Anthony was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
Memorials may be made to the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.

Carolyn March
Carolyn March, 58, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday March 18, 2013 in the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, where visitation will be on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:30PM. The Very Rev. Mark Ressler will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Dale G. March; her children Fr. Nick March of Protivin, Iowa, Megan (Tony) DiVito of Springfield, Missouri, Christopher March of Portland, Oregon, and Harrison March of Iowa City, Iowa; her grandsons Luke and John DiVito both of Springfield, Missouri; her mother, Rosalie Gagnon of Lincoln Park, Michigan; her siblings Margaret (Glen) Kolbicz of Livonia, Michigan, Mary Gagnon of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, Elaine Gagnon of Roseville, Michigan, Elizabeth (Gary) Jakobcic of Royal Oak, Michigan, Ann (John) Bumberry of Springfield, Missouri and Tom (Mary Lou) Gagnon of Goodrich, Michigan. Also surviving are 22 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Jerry Gagnon.
Carolyn was born January 18, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Jerry and Rosalie Smyth Gagnon. She married Dale on June 24, 1977 in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Carolyn was a nurse at the Hall Perrine Cancer Center, a reflective and humble Christian and a faithful Sacristan and founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She was celebrated as one of “100 Great Iowa Nurses of 2012” for “Courage, Competence and Commitment, ” which, in hindsight, says it all. She had the quintessential green thumb, loved the outdoors, and yearned to be a hobby farmer. She recorded one walking marathon for Leukemia and Lymphoma and longed to walk another or climb again in the Rocky Mountains before her battle with melanoma required all of her attention and energy. Her home was her castle; and Dale her sous-chef (and chief taster). The blessings that she brought to our lives cannot be measured in Earthly terms. They were indeed gifts from God, carefully wrapped in the whole person that she was, and joyfully opened by those of us blessed to be her companions in life.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established by the family for The American Cancer Society.

Roberta Joyce Rehder Fish
Roberta Joyce Rehder Lint Fish, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died at Northbrook Care Center on Saturday, March 2, 2013. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Family Service will follow at 7 p.m.
Survivors include her daughters, Bonnie (Dennis) Bland of Fairfax, Glenda (Edward) McKinley of Vinton, and Shelley (Rob Chagnon) Fish of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Jean Severe of Vancouver, WA and Faye (Melvin) Young of Palo; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Thomas Fish.
Joyce was born September 21, 1930 in Palo to Wencil and Pearl Rehder. She married Thomas Fish on May 28, 1971 in Albia. She and Tom farmed near Drakesville, Iowa until his death. She returned to Cedar Rapids to be near her daughters. Joyce worked and lived in the Cedar Rapids area until her retirement. Joyce loved to travel and do crafts.
