Ann Mida Watson
Ann Mida Watson, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Cottage Grove Place. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 1 at 10:30 AM at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. John R. Flaherty with Rev. David O’Connor and Rev Gerald Condon con-celebrating. A visitation will begin at 9 AM at the church. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Ann Mida Coleman was born September 24, 1924 the daughter of Leo and Margaret Coleman. She grew up in Davenport, Iowa with her four brothers and one sister. She attended Immaculate Conception Academy. Ann married John C. Watson in 1947. They moved to Washington DC where John received his JD from Georgetown University and where they started their family. They then lived in Peoria, Illinois before moving to Cedar Rapids.
Ann and her husband John were charter members of All Saints Parish, where Ann was an active volunteer. She also belonged to the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary and enjoyed volunteering for many years in the Mercy Gift Shop.
Though she lost her husband, John, at 52, she remained devoted to him for life.
As a mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend, she loved unconditionally. Her kindness, gentle ways, and sense of humor were a joy and inspiration to all who knew her.
The family wishes to thank the many special care givers at Cottage Grove Place, and also express gratitude for the comfort and peace brought to Ann and the entire family by Mercy Hospice, Fr. David O’Connor, Fr. Jack Flaherty, Fr. Gerald Condon and Linda Stavropoulos.
Memorial contributions may be sent to All Saints Church and Mercy Medical Center.
Survivors include her children: John (Judy) Watson, Cathy (Bill) Graber, Mark (Jan) Watson, Mary (Bill) Johnson, Susie (Greg) Wylie, Peter (Penny) Watson, and Jim (Donna) Watson; 24 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Betty McCabe; a brother, Skeets Coleman; sisters-in-law, Jean Watson and Marge Coleman; and many nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Watson; parents; and brothers, Jack, Tom, and Plug.
George Byron Kibler
George Byron Kibler, 91, of Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died March 24, 2013 at St Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. Services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Voels officiating. Visitation will be an hour before beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow the funeral services.
George was born August 22, 1921 in Marengo, Iowa to George T. Kibler and Frances J. Cronbaugh Kibler. On Dec 13, 1941 George married Wilma Ida Margretz. They had two sons, George (Pat) and Ronald (Paula Ann). George is also survived by five granddaughters, Kristine (Russ) Morgan, Kimberly (Paul) Hook, Angela (Gordon) Merritt, Melissa (Chris) Mashek, and Megan Kibler and friend Jason Cepaitis; thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother Philip Kibler and friend Cheryl Aitker, two sisters Phylis Shedenhelm, and Elizabeth Stanerson and many nieces and nephews.
George proudly served his country in the in the Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged Dec. 1944. George was a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
George retired from Quaker Oats after more than 30 years of devoted service.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and uncle.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care given to George by Hiawatha Care Center, the staff of St. Luke’s Hospital 5th floor. A special thanks to Dr. Mary Anne Nelson.
A general memorial fund has been established.
Dennis E. Walker
Dennis E. Walker, 51, of Ames, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 29 at 1 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Dennis was born on August 21, 1961 to Dean and Joyce McCartney Walker in Cedar Rapids. He worked for the Department of Transportation as an inspector.
He is survived by his children, JD Walker of Ames and Abby Walker of Montana; parents, Dean and Joyce Walker of Hiawatha; brothers, Doug Walker of Hiawatha and David (Christy) Walker of Marion; and a sister, Dana (Tracy) Wilkins of Maquoketa.
Memorial donations may be directed to the family.
Melvin C. Edaburn
Melvin C. “Mel” Edaburn, 80, died Thursday March 21, 2013 at St. Lukes Hospital in their Hospice Unit. Services at 2:00 PM on Sunday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 12:30 PM on Sunday. Private family burial at Campbell Cemetery. Per Mel’s’ request the casket will be closed at all times. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Melvin was born December 7, 1932 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Orval and Ruth (Wright) Edaburn. Melvin grew up on the family farm near Toddville. He had a great love for the out of doors. After graduation he served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. Upon discharge he worked 28 years at FMC Link Belt and ten years at Rockwell Goss until retirement.
On June 4, 1955 he married Patricia Workman. They were blessed with three children, Dale (Lori), Diana, and David (Mary). Mel is also survived by four grandchildren, Whitney, Jack, and Kirby Edaburn and Chelsea (Andrew) McCallum, a brother Richard and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Diana.
In 1971 Melvin was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Christian Witnesses and was an active member for 44 years.
After his illness he had been rehabbing at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion. “The family would like to thank the staff for their Care.”
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
Lloyd C. Larson
Lloyd C. Larson, 93, a resident of Cedar Rapids for 65 years, and recently of Muscatine died Wednesday March 20, 2013. Services at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at the Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. Rev. Michael Metz will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday and at the Church after 9:30 AM on Tuesday.
Survivors include a son Craig (Nita) of Muscatine and a daughter Julie (Rob) Schwartz of Sheridan, Wyoming. He is also survived by two grandchildren Natalie and Christopher Larson and two step-grandchildren Joe and Otto Schwartz. He was preceded in death by his wife Lola, a brother Lawrence and three sisters Bessie Ross, Edith Rassmussen, and Elsie Rogers.
Lloyd was born in rural Benton County, Iowa the son of Chris and Martha Larson on May 27, 1919. He graduated from Newhall High School in 1936 and from the University of Iowa in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree, majoring in accounting. While at the University of Iowa he was a classmate and acquaintance of Nile Kennick, an honor he treasured.
He married Lola Hauser on September 20, 1941 in Van Horne. They lived in Chicago while Lloyd worked for the Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corporation of Gary, Indiana. Lloyd served in the United States Army during WWII graduating from Officer Candidate School in 1946. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Lloyd and Lola settled in Cedar Rapids where Lloyd took a job with a fledgling company, Collins Radio now Rockwell-Collins. He worked for Collins Radio for 23 years, as an accounting supervisor.
Lloyd and Lola then opened Lloyd’s Fish and Chips in Cedar Rapids, expanding the business to include two shops. They later sold the business and Lloyd took a position with J-Tek Associates Inc. where he worked as controller until his retirement at the age of 72 in 1991.
Lloyd was a member of the Kenwood Park United Methodist Church and served in the Methodist Men, including as a financial officer for many years.
Lloyd was an avid Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. He will be remembered by friends and family as an honest, caring father, husband, and grandfather and a dependable hardworking employee. He cherished his poker games and golfing groups. Lloyd’s greatest achievement however was his dedication, and the self sacrificing care he gave Lola as she battled Multiple Sclerosis. His care allowed her to remain in the home until nearly the end of their 66 years of marriage.
He will be greatly missed by his children, their spouses, his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Memorial donations may be given to the Iowa City Hospice, or to Kenwood Park United Methodist Church.
Jack D. Rauch
Jack D. Rauch, 82, a resident the Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids formerly of Blue Rapids, Kansas died at Meth-Wick on Wednesday March 20, 2013 after a long illness. Per Jack’s request there will be no service or visitation. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, James of Cedar Rapids, Keith of White House, Tennessee; and a sister Carolyn Mitchell of Springfield, Missouri. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kirsten Gilbert, Megan, Ben, Joe, and Peter Rauch; two great grandchildren Layna and Noelle Gilbert.
Jack was born on November 4, 1929 in Girard, Kansas the son of Dewey and Edna Wolber Rauch. He graduated from Monette, Missouri High School and later attended SW Missouri State in 1951. He married JoAnn M. Zehr on November 18, 1951 in Seneca, Missouri. JoAnn died in 2011. Jack was the plant manager at Georgia-Pacific in Blue Rapids, Kansas for 34 years retiring in 1993.
Jack was a member of the Scottish Rite, Society of American Magicians, a life member of the American Legion, advisor to the Order of DeMolay, the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce and proudly served in the Air Force.
Emma Arlene Johnson
Emma Arlene Johnson, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died March 16, 2013 at Northbrook Manor Care Center surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. The family will greet friends Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years James Johnson of Cedar Rapids; a daughter Deb (Jerry) Durgin of Mount Vernon; two sons, Gary Anderson of Cedar Rapids; Larry (Sandy) Anderson of Perry, Missouri; two step-daughters, Susan Faulkner of Cedar Rapids; Jean (William) Millkey of Atlanta, Georgia; a step-son Charles (Mary) Johnson of Robins; two sisters Margaret Stange of Iowa City; Marie Hassellbush of, Geneseo Illinois; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Clifford Melvin “Andy” Anderson who passed July 24, 1960; five brothers and two sisters.
Arlene Johnson was born on August 15, 1924 the daughter of Glenn and Leona (Montgomery) Freeman in Shellsburg, Iowa. She graduated from High School in Walker, Iowa. She was united in marriage to James Johnson on May 6, 1978. Arlene was a Sunday School Teacher for Trinity Methodist Church, a choir member for the Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church, and a life long member of the Easter Star in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, and time with her family and friends. Arlene was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all.
