COSBY, HILMER "PETE" was born October 24, 1927, at Sumner, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Martha (Blaske) Cosby. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and worked for Rath Packing Company for 10 years. Pete worked for John Deere Tractor Works for 28 years, retiring in 1993. He married Elaine Steege, November 5, 1950, at Sumner, Iowa. Pete died Monday, August 11, 2003, at his home in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the age of 75 years.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Cynthia (Dan) Brown of Cedar Falls and Elaine (Niel) Anderson of Klamath Falls, Oregon; one son, Charles Cosby, of Cedar Falls; eleven grandchildren, Amanda, Elise, Justin, Amy and Jonathan Brown, and Erin, Heather, Brian, Paul, Matthew, Andrew and Caylee Anderson; and two sisters, Verdena Morris of Evansdale, Iowa and Beverly Kane of Waterloo, Iowa.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Joan Buchkolz and one brother, Bud Cosby.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with intermenty at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to Nazareth Lutheran Church.
COX, HELEN was born June 24, 1911 near New Hartford, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Josephine (Elliott) Whitney. She married Raymond F. Cox on September 11, 1936 in Galena, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 2, 2001. Helen died Friday, December 27, 2002, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, at 91 years of age.
She is survived by two sons, Craig R. Cox and his wife, Wilma, of Waterloo, Iowa and Darrel F. Cox of Fairbank, Iowa; seven grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her husband and parents; one son, Curtis Cox and three brothers, Max, Roger and Benny Whitney.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fairbank United Methodist Church, Fairbank, Iowa with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the church.
COX, RAYMOND FRANCIS was born November 30, 1913 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of John Paul and Pauline (Runge) Cox. He married Helen M. Whitney on September 11, 1936 in Galena, Illinois. They purchased their current rural Readlyn farm in November of 1945. Raymond was also a welder at John Deere & Company for 34 years retiring in December of 1971. He continued farming until the spring of 1991 and resided on the family farm until March of this year. Raymond was a member of Fairbank United Methodist Church and a Farm Bureau member. He died Sunday, December 2, 2001 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo at the age of 88 years.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Cox of Readlyn, Iowa, two sons, Craig Cox and his wife, Wilma, of Waterloo, Iowa, Darrel Cox of Fairbank, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Curtis Cox, three brothers, Vernie, John, and Art Cox and one sister, Ella Burk.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home & Cremation Service with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Fairbank United Methodist Church or the family.
CRAFT, MARGARET BRANDHORST was born September 15, 1894 in rural Black Hawk County, Iowa, the daughter of August and Anna (Von Grappendorf) Brandhorst. She married Vaughn L. Craft on June 9, 1928 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, Iowa. He died in November of 1983. Margaret was a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College and taught in rural schools near Hudson and at Jubilee Consolidated near La Porte City, Iowa. She and her husband farmed near Hudson for over fifty years until their retirement in 1981. Margaret died Sunday, January 3, 1999 at Barthell's Eastern Star Home in Decorah, Iowa at the age of 104 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Marianne Craft Norton of Decorah, her son, Rolf V. Craft of Waverly, Iowa and five grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one infant son.
Memorial services were 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 8, 1999 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson and burial at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church.
CRONIN-KITTELSON, KENT MARIO was born May 17, 1989 in Waterloo, Iowa. He is the son of Mike & Lori Kittelson and Danell Cronin-Kittelson. He just completed fourth grade at Lincoln Elementary School in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Kent is was an avid Dallas Cowboy Fan and also enjoyed food, riding his bike, his Sony Play Station and loved his best friend, his brother. He died Tuesday, June 15, 1999 near Alta Vista, Iowa.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Michael & Lori Kittelson of Cedar Falls; his mother, Danell Cronin of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Kody Kittelson and Chad Cronin, both of Cedar Falls; maternal grandparents, Joseph Cronin of Waterloo and Mary Cronin, also of Waterloo; paternal grandparents, David Martin & Jan Kittelson of Cedar Falls, Robert Kittelson of Alta Vista, Iowa, Sandra Scobee of Evansdale, Iowa and paternal great grandmother, Irene Kittelson of Evansdale. Kent was preceded in death by his brother, Keith Kittelson.
Funeral Services were 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 18, 1999 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established.
Crowell, Judith “Judy” Lee, 72, of Waterloo died Sunday, October 15, 2000 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. She was born October 18, 1927 in Shell Rock, daughter of Harry and Naomi Whitehead Dungan. She married Robert Crowell November 12, 1946 in Oregon City, Illinois. He preceded her in death September 6, 1989. Mrs. Crowell was employed as a nurses aide at Schoitz Memorial Hospital from 1967 to 1973.
Survivors include her son, Douglas of Waterloo; daughter, Roxanne Chud and her husband, Frank of Franksville, Wisconsin; two step grandchildren, Andy and Paula Chud; two brothers, Theron “Bud” Dungan of Los Banos, CA and John Dungan of Newton, Iowa; her sister, Beverly Loeb of Jesup; four nieces, three nephews and special friends, Karen and John Sewick of Hudson. Mrs Crowell was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister, Karen Dungan. Also preceding her in death were her two cherished schnauzers, Willie and Norton.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church in Waterloo with burial in Wilson Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the Church. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
CUVELIER, MARIE A. HENRICHS was born December 1, 1912 in Allison, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Tillie (Freeseman) Henrichs. She married Jake Cuvelier on November 11, 1932. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1985. Marie worked for many years as a cook for the Finchford Community School and as a switchboard operator for the Finchford Independent Telephone Company. She retired in 1974 as the switchboard operator for the Eldora Training School in Eldora, Iowa. Marie died Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 88 years of age.
She is survived by her two daughters, Cae McCalley (Noel) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Lyn Feckers (Paul) of New Hartford, Iowa; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a son, Lon Cuvelier; three brothers, John, Henry and Ted Henrichs, and a sister, Ann DeBerg.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2001 at the funeral home, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
DALL, AGNETHA “NITA” was born November 29, 1895 at Aarhus, Denmark the daughter of Michel and Christina (Shmidt) Kaae. She came to America by herself at the age of 14, settling in Dike, Iowa. Nita married Peter P. Dall December 11, 1914 at Fredsville Lutheran Church, rural Cedar Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death April 24, 1963. Nita died Thursday, July 5, 2001 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home at 105 years of age.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Sauer, Sonoma, California and Ruth Bank, Columbia, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jill Smith, Cheryl Clausmann, Denise Bank, and David Bank; thirteen great grandchildren, and twelve great great grandchildren.
Nita was preceded in death by her parents, husband; one son, Harold Dall; one grandson, Bruce Dall, one brother, Aage Kaae; and one sister, Dagney Johnson.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2001 at Fredsville Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church or the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
DAMGAARD, CHRISTINA was born on May 21, 1899 in Tversted, Denmark the daughter of Kresten and Petrina (Petersen) Jakobsen. She married Niels C. Damgaard on April 21, 1922 in Sorig, Denmark. He died May 22, 1978. Christina died Wednesday, September 16, 1998 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home at the age of 99 years.
She is survived by her son, Ewald "Ozzie" Damgaard of Cedar Falls and her daughter, Marcella "Marcie" Trent of Cedar Falls, two grandchildren, Tom Damgaard and Dr. Vickie Trent, and three great grandchildren, Nicole and Mitchell Damgaard and Brooke Trent.
She was preceded in death by one son, Johannes Damgaard, three brothers, Niels, Ludvig, and Karl, and one sister, Karolina Nielsen.
Funeral Services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 1998 at Nazareth Lutheran Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp, Story City, Iowa.
DANNER, JERRY LEE "BUZZ" was born May 15, 1941 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Carl M. and Helen J. (Rindels) Danner. He married Carolyn J. Norton on May 9, 1960 in Preston, Minnesota. Jerry worked for Sears Roebuck and Company, in Waterloo, Iowa, for 30 years, retiring as the Shipping and Receiving Manager. He was currently working for the Delivery Department at the Cedar Falls School System. Jerry was a member of the Cedar Falls Fraternal Order of Eagles and was an honorary member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. He died Tuesday, October 26, 1999, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 58 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Danner, and his parents, Carl and Helen Danner, all of Cedar Falls; his children, Kimberly Mundfrom, and her husband Herman, of Cedar Falls, Kelli Greenstreet, and her husband Kerry, of Arvada, Colorado, and K.C. Danner, and his wife Pennie, of Scammon, Kansas; six grandchildren, Amanda, Zachary, Mitchell, Kody, Dillion and Toby; and his two sisters, Betty Edgerly, and her husband Wayne, of Blaine, Minnesota and Karla Parsley, and her husband Larry, of Waterloo.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 29, 1999, at the funeral home, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, north of Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
DAVISON, DARROW LEE, 53, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Friday, April 9, 2004, in rural Cedar Falls, Iowa. He was born May 14, 1950 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Russell F. and Violet (Purington) Davison. He married Ellie Lang on January 21, 2000 in Waterloo. Darrow was a truck driver for Waterloo Warehousing Service Center.
Darrow is survived by his wife, Ellie Davison, of Cedar Falls; four sons, Darrow Lee Davison, Jr. of Waterloo, Greg Davison of Texas and Anthony and Travis Davison, both of Cedar Falls; two step-daughters, Brandi and Amber Lang, both of Cedar Falls, and one grandchild, Dakota Davison of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Timothy Lynn Davison and a sister, Dixie Davison.
Graveside services were 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Hillside Cemetery in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
DEGROOT, JOHN R., was born August 22, 1924 in Parkersburg, Iowa, the son of John and Julianna Hendrika (Van Dyke) DeGroot. He served with the U. S. Army in the European Theatre during W.W. II. John was a 1950 graduate of the University of Iowa, receiving a B.A. degree in Commerce. He married Esther Bergman on June 15, 1950 in Stout, Iowa. John was employed at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa, retiring as Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing in 1985. Esther preceded him in death on November 5, 1984. He married Mildred Bode on June 7, 1986 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. John died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his home in Cedar Falls, of heart failure. He was 75 years of age.
John is survived by his wife, Mildred of Cedar Falls; two sons, David of Rosemount, Minnesota and James of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Cynthia Glover of Burnsville, Minnesota and Mary Powell of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a step-son, James Bode of Denver, Colorado and a step-daughter, Julie Villelli of Fallbrook, California; fourteen grandchildren and a sister, Helen Kramer of Aplington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Esther, three brothers, Lewis, Jack and Frank DeGroot, and two sisters, Alice Knock and Dena Jungling.
Funeral services were 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Orchard Hill Reformed Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg. Military flag-folding rites will be conducted by Parkersburg American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be directed to the church or Bethany Christian Services.
DELISO, LUIGIA GEMMA was born May 9, 1915 in Vezzano Ligure, Italy, the daughter of Centurio and Caterina (Bocchia) Fazzini. She married Vincenzo DeLiso on August 26, 1943 at Vezzano Ligure, Italy. Luigia died Saturday, December 19, 1998 at Windsor Care Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa at 83 years of age.
She is survived by her husband Enzo, of Deerfield, Illinois; her daughter, Caroline Gosnell and her husband Jim of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Erik of Cedar Falls and Amy of Iowa City, Iowa and two great grandchildren, Tyler and Trenton Gosnell.
Luigia was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Domenico, Pietro, Beppe, Attilio and one in infancy and four sisters, Elvira, Ida, Gigetta and one in infancy.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call one hour prior to service.
