DRENNER, HERBERT A. was born November 26, 1915 in New Hartford, Iowa, the son of James Elmer and Louise (Behrens) Drenner. He married Elvera Hubbard on August 5, 1936 in McGregor, Iowa. Herb was a farmer in Cedar Falls and worked for Runyan Construction Company in Cedar Falls for many years. His grandchildren remember and cherish the beautiful treasures he crafted from wood. Herb died Friday, July 4, 2003, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 87 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Elvera, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Jim (Glennyce) Drenner of Vinton, Iowa and Duane (Sharon) Drenner of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Pat (Monty) Groesbeck of Prescott, Wisconsin and Kathi (Ken) Marsh of Waterloo, Iowa; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Clifford (Ramona) Drenner of Clinton, Arkansas and a sister, Marjorie Christian of La Porte City, Iowa.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Orville Drenner.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery in rural Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
DUNDIS, DOROTHY A. was born December 23, 1914 at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, the daughter of Lewis and Bessie (Mitchell) Beaton. She married Alphonse B. Dundis on February 8, 1941 in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1973. Dorothy was a 1933 graduate of West High School in Waterloo and was a buyer for the Younkers Department Store, for 27 years, retiring in 1980. She and her husband lived in Des Moines, Iowa for many years, where Dorothy was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital and was a member of Highland Park Christian Church. Dorothy died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, at 86 years of age.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Dundis, and his wife Jo, of Glenview, Illinois; a brother, Jack Beaton of Waterloo; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie and Evelyn Beaton; four nephews, Michael, Charles, Larry and Rex Beaton; two nieces, Linda Horra and Kathy Hamer, and many cousins.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband and parents, and a brother, Hilliard Beaton.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. in Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association and Highland Park Christian Church in Des Moines.
DYER, W. EDWARD "EDDIE" was born July 21, 1920 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of John A. and Anna Belle (Coyle) Dyer. He was a 1938 graduate of East Waterloo High School and served with the U. S. Army at Okinawa in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during WW II. Ed was a union carpenter and lifetime member of Union Hall 1835 for 67 years. He died Monday, September 10, 2001, at his home in Cedar Falls, at 81 years of age.
Ed is survived by his son, James E. Dyer and his two daughters, Ann M. Irvine and her husband Richard of St. Paul Park, Minnesota and Kim R. Hurlbut and her husband Robert of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Christopher and Justin Hurlbut, and a sister, Winona Marvitz of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Bernice, Alice and Patricia, and a brother, David.
Graveside committal services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2001, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
ECKERMAN, LLOYD CALVIN, was born May 7, 1913 in Kinross, Iowa the son of Clayton and Lottie (Baughman) Eckerman. He married Louise Jensen May 28, 1933 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Lloyd owned and operated Eckerman’s Grocery Store from 1937 to 1949. He was also employed by Schoitz Memorial Hospital from 1949 to 1978. Lloyd was co-founder of Schoitz Hospital Credit Union and past president of Hillcrest Cemetery Association.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Eckerman of Cedar Falls; two sons and their wives, Don & Barbara Eckerman of Washburn, Iowa, Duane & Terri Eckerman of Wichita, Kansas; three daughters, Darlene Boggs and her husband, David, of Houston, Texas, Deanna Eckerman of Cedar Falls, Delila Nielsen and her husband, David, of Watertown, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Lloyd was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Peters and Minnie Austin.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 1999 at St. John Lutheran Church with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church or the family.
ELLISON, MARJORIE J. SCHOOF was born August 21, 1928 in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Irene (Seamon) Schoof. She married Leland Bo Ellison on October 8, 1950 in Waverly. They farmed north of Waverly for many years. She volunteered with many organizations, including her church, Farm Bureau and 4H and enjoyed activities such as piano, gardening, fishing, bowling and spending time with family and friends. Marjorie died Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at ManorCare Health Services in Waterloo, Iowa, at 75 years of age.
Survivors include her daughter, Kris (Craig) Rash of Denver, Iowa; three sons, Dave (Collette) Ellison of Waverly, Mitch Ellison of Plainfield, Iowa and Bo (Cindy Hendrickson) Ellison of Waverly; three grandchildren, Jessi Foelske, Leslie Rash and Tony Ellison; three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Don (Verna) Schoof of Boone, Iowa and Merwin (Lois) Schoof of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one step-granddaughter and one sister, Verla Lucas.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2004 at Plainfield United Methodist Church with burial at Willow Lawn Cemetery, both in Plainfield. Memorials may be directed to the church, Cedar Valley Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
ELSE, ARDIS 80, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Sibley, Iowa died Thursday, September 2, 2004 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was born April 7, 1924 at Canton, S.D. the daughter of Roscoe & Vera (Haas) McVay. Ardis graduated from Valley Springs High School in Valley Springs, South Dakota. She married Kenneth H. Else June 28, 1942 in Canton. He died July 26, 2003. Ardis was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 102 and the United Methodist Church, both in Sibley.
Survivors include three sons, Harlan (Karen) Else of Colorado Springs, Colorado, David (Barbara) Else of Cedar Falls, Rod Else of Minneapolis, Minnesota; twelve grandchildren; Shelly Prenger, Wendy Sparks, Marne Busatto, Casey McPeek, Kevin McPeek, Jim Else, Jennifer Hartman, Travis Else, Tucker Else, Chad Lasky, Ryan Else and Lindsay Sheeks, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one brother, Glen (Margaret) McVay of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son, Terry Else.
Memorial services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2004 at Sibley United Methodist Church, 700 11th Ave. NE, with burial at Holman Township Cemetery, Sibley, Iowa. A memorial fund will be established.
ERIKSEN, BEULAH M. , 100, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Saturday, August 7, 2004, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. Beulah was born November 26, 1903 at Marion, Kansas, the daughter of Nicholas and Jennie (Waite) Hett. She married A. Homer Eriksen on August 7, 1931 at Wichita, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 21, 1976. Beulah was a graduate of Tabor College at Hillsboro, Kansas and worked in banking for ten years and later was a dining room hostess at the Cedar Falls Woman’s Club for over ten years. She was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa and attended the Nazareth Lutheran Senior Luncheon for over twenty years.
She is survived by her children, Erik (Joline) Eriksen of Des Moines, Iowa, Sharon (Orrin) Gilbert of Cedar Falls and Carol (Sam) Vaughn of Denver, Colorado; three grandchildren, Jerome Kent Gilbert, Scott David Eriksen and Wendy Turek; and seven great-grandchildren, Amanda & Sarah Gilbert, Madeline & Meredith Eriksen, and Emma, Tessa & Hannah Turek.
Beulah was preceded in death by her husband and parents; three brothers, Arthur, Norman & Orville Hett; and a sister, Edna Williams.
Funeral services were 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the First Evangelical Free Church in Cedar Falls.
ERIKSEN, LYDIA was born June 29, 1907 near Kimballton, Iowa, the daughter of Soren and Marie (Schmidt) Sorensen. She married Finn B. Eriksen on December 23, 1934 in Kimballton. He preceded her in death on August 8, 1992. Lydia was employed at Black’s Department Store, was a desk clerk and hostess at the Russell Lamson Hotel and retired as a receptionist at Pitze’s School of Beauty, all in Waterloo, Iowa. She was a volunteer at the former Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo and was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Lydia died Thursday, February 22, 2001 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, at 93 years of age.
She is survived by two nephews, Dr. Arno L. Jensen (Joan) of Dallas, Texas and Dr. Alfred Sorensen (Sandra) of McMurray, Pennsylvania, and two nieces, Freda Lovejoy (Robert) of Cedar Falls and Mary Mitchell of Ouray, Colorado.
Lydia was preceded in death by her husband and parents; three brothers, George, Alfred and Walter Sorensen, and a sister, Davida Jensen.
Memorial services were 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home chapel. Inurnment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Kimballton, Iowa at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls or the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
Erickson, Barbara (Young) was born September 13, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Roy and Hope (Perkis) Young. She married James Erickson July 19, 1969 in Belmond, Iowa. She received a BA in Public Relations in 1989 and an MA in Communications in 1992, both from the University of Northern Iowa. She had been employed as a teacher assistant in the Cedar Falls school system and was then employed in public relations at U.N.I. Barb died Thursday, June 27, 2002 at her home at the age of 53 years.
Survivors include her husband, Jim of Janesville; her children, Dana Erickson of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Brenda Olsen of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Christopher Bidwell of Washington, D.C., her sister, Sue Mortenson of Naperville, Illinois and her brother, David Young of Phoenix, Arizona. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2002 at St. John Lutheran Church with cremation following the funeral. Memorials may be given to the church, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, Cedar Valley Hospice, or Cedar Valley Dialysis.
ERLANDSEN, HELGA A. was born March 18, 1904 in Laeso, Denmark, the daughter of Anders and Juliane (Markussen) Jensen. She married Kingo O. Erlandsen on December 21, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1977. Helga died Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home at 94 years of age.
She is survived by her two sons, Stanley Erlandsen of Plymouth, Minnesota and Earl Erlandsen of Katy, Texas; her five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Helga was preceded in death by her husband and parents; one daughter, Ella Hansen; one grandson, Paul Hansen and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 15, 1999 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the family.
EVERS, CLEONE L. , 77, of Cedar Falls died Friday, December 26, 2003 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was born March 7, 1926 at home in Mount Carmel, Iowa, the daughter of Frank & Emma (Damm) Steinkamp. She married Rollin Evers June 17, 1947 at Arcadia, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2002. Cleone died Friday, December 26, 2003 at Sartori Memorial Hospital at the age of 77 years.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Evers and his wife Carol of Mason City, Iowa and Doug Evers and his wife Jill of Kokomo, Indiana; a daughter, Renee Evers of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Elisa Anne Evers, Jay Douglas Evers, Jeffrey Paul Evers, Ryan Grover Evers, Nathan William Evers and Kristen Renee Evers; a brother, Melvin (Bernice) Steinkamp of Arcadia; and three sisters, Leota (Harold) Eich of Ogden, Iowa, Jean Wernimont of Atlantic, Iowa and Neva Wittaker of Orange, California and a special companion, her dog Anna Marie. Cleone was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers.
Memorial services were 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. A memorial fund will be established.
EVERS, ROLLIN "ROLLIE" G. was born March 24, 1925 in Arcadia, Iowa, the son of Grover William and Laura Elizabeth (Bruggeman) Evers. He married Cleone Stienkamp on June 17, 1947 in Arcadia. Rollie served with the U. S. Army in the European Theatre during WW II. He fought in many battles including the Battle of the Bulge. Rollie was a patrolman for four years with the Iowa State Patrol, a deputy sheriff with Boone County, Iowa for five years, served for a term as the Boone County Sheriff and was the first Public Safety Director for the University of Northern Iowa, retiring in 1987. He died Saturday, February 2, 2002 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa at 76 years of age.
Rollie is survived by his wife, Cleone Evers of Cedar Falls; two sons, Mark Evers and his wife Carol of Mason City, Iowa and Doug Evers and his wife Jill of Kokomo, Indiana; a daughter, Renee Evers of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Elisa Anne Evers, Jay Douglas Evers, Jeffrey Paul Evers, Ryan Grover Evers, Nathan William Evers and Kristen Renee Evers; a brother, Kenneth Evers and his wife Dolores of Dubuque, Iowa and a special companion, his dog Anna Marie.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

FAIRBANKS, CHESTER “ARNIE” ARNOLD 74, of Lakeland, Florida and formerly of Waterloo died Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Bartow Memorial Hospital in Bartow, Florida. He was born September 4, 1929 at Waterloo, Iowa the son of Floyd & Thelma (Ralston) Fairbanks. Arnie and Genevieve Smelser were united in marriage June 24, 1948 at Waterloo, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 26, 1995, Arnie was employed as a printer at Control-O-Fax in Waterloo for many years , then worked part time for his son after moving to Lakeland.
Survivors include two sons, Rick (Tammie) Fairbanks of Mulberry, Florida and Brian (Melissa) Fairbanks of Lakeland, Florida; one daughter, Susan (Dan) Geisler of Waterloo; two grandchildren, two brothers, Harry (Darlene) Fairbanks of Wellington, Kansas and Floyd (Doreen) Fairbanks of Long Beach, California; and two sisters, Beverly (Nick) Nichols of Chilicothe, Missouri and Sharon (Don) Shellenberger of Waterloo.
Arnie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Michael Fairbanks, and one sister, Marilyn Whitesell.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2004 at St. John Lutheran Church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. A memorial fund will be established.
FARBER, DOROTHY , 87, of Waterloo died Friday, September 12, 2003 at Friendship Village. She was born January 28, 1916 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of George E. and Elizabeth (Leask) Hermann. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1934 and then went to work for Rath Packing Company in Waterloo. Dorothy married Second Lt. William J. Farber on June 18, 1945 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. They later moved to Independence, Iowa where she was a librarian for 22 years, retiring in 1988.
She is survived by her husband, William, of Waterloo; two sons, George R. (Gail) Farber of Waterloo and Charles W. Farber of Roseville, Minnesota; two daughters, Elizabeth C. and Martha R. Farber, both of Waterloo; a granddaughter, Gwen Farber of Waterloo; and four brothers, George W. (Mary) Hermann of Macomb, Illinois, Leask H. (Ruth) Hermann of Sun City West, Arizona, Edgar W. (Pat) Hermann of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Philip D. Hermann of Waterloo.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Charles R. and Stanley R. Hermann.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at Bethany Bible Chapel with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Bethany Bible Chapel or Friendship Village.
