FESSLER, WALLACE DALE, 76, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Iowa Falls and Tucson, Arizona died of natural causes Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at his home. He was born March 23, 1926 in Iowa Falls, Iowa the son of Arnold and Minnie (Geiken) Fessler. He served in the U. S. Army and was later employed as a machinist at John Deere & Company in Waterloo retiring September 30, 1987 after 28 years of employment. He married Marjorie Johnson in 1948 and they were later divorced. He married Delores Brown and they were later divorced.
Survivors include his daughter, Trudy Weichers and her husband, Dennis, of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Brett and Brad Weichers of Cedar Falls and Brandi Bell of Des Moines; three great grandchildren, Jordan & Jakob Weichers and Hunter Bell; and his sister-in-law, Emma Fessler of Ackley, Iowa. Wallace was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Fessler, and one nephew, Jerry Fessler.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2002 at the Dahl Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
FISH, MARJORIE B. was born May 10, 1921, at Greene, Iowa, the daughter of Earle A. and Grace (Terrill) Baker. She married David Charles Fish January 17, 1943 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death August 4, 1983. Before her retirement she was a guidance counselor at West High School in Waterloo. Marjorie died Monday, November 24, 2003 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the age of 82 years. Within a half hour of her death her great-granddaughter, Veronica Grace Steffener, was born.
Marjorie is survived by two sons, Dave F. of Cedar Falls, and Donald J. (Janelle) of Davenport, IA. Two daughters, Marjo (John) Lane of Alma, Colorado, and Diane Priest of Seattle, Washington. Four grandchildren, five great –grandchildren, and one sister, Beth Mast of Bozeman, Montana.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister, Ruth Thompson and one brother, Richard Baker.
Memorial services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
FLACK, FRANKLYN L. was born October 11, 1937 in Osage, Iowa, the son of Burnell and Edna (DeWitt) Flack. He married Carol Atkinson on January 25, 1959 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Franklyn was a 1961 graduate of Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and was a financial advisor with American Express Financial Advisors for over 40 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, High 12, the Elks Club, the International Association of Financial Planning and was a charter member of the Financial Advisors Hall of Fame. Franklyn died Monday, April 1, 2002 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa at 64 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Cedar Falls; two sons, Steven and his wife Susan of Cedar Falls and Bradley of Waterloo, Iowa; his mother, Edna of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Audrey and Aidan Flack; a brother, Edwin of Cedar Falls and a sister, Patricia Plueger of Anamosa, Iowa.
Franklyn was preceded in death by his father and a brother, James.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2002 at First Baptist Church with burial at Waterloo Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society in Waterloo and Animal Rescue League in Des Moines, Iowa.
FLETCHER, PHYLLIS was born November 21, 1920 at Rose Hill, Colorado the daughter of Charles & Rossie (Boyer) Billings. She died Monday, December 22, 2003 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 83 years.
Survivors include three sons, Edward C. (Carol) Fletcher of Big Pine Key, Florida, Larry R. (Clare) Fletcher of Laguna Hills, California, Thomas A. (Carolyn) Fletcher of Maple Grove, Minnesota; one daughter, Linda (Daniel) Cobb of Odessa, Missouri; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one brother, Ronald (Jodie) Billings of Shawnee Mission, Kansas. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services were 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2003, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel. Inurnment will be in Topeka, Kansas at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
FORD, ERWIN H. was born September 14, 1925 in Fairbank, Iowa, the son of Edward and Frances (Knoll) Ford. He married Elsie Komarek on July 12, 1949 in Protovin, Iowa. Erwin served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during W.W. II. He worked at Mether Motor Company for five years; owned and operated the Conoco Gas Station for several years; and worked at Viking Pump Company for sixteen years, retiring in 1990. Erwin died at home, Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at 73 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Elsie, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his two daughters, Julie Baker and Jolene Ford, both of Cedar Falls; his six sons, Dale of Eagan, Minnesota, Roy of Cedar Falls, Dan of Mason City, Iowa, and Randy, Darwin and Roland, all of Cedar Falls; thirteen grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his three sisters, Ethel Vachta, Elsie Welsh and Evelyn Greene and his step-sister, Edith Vassar.
Erwin was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda Ford; two brothers, Elmer and Edgar; and three step-sisters and one step-brother.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 30, 1999, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military committal rites were conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. A memorial fund will be established.
FOWLKES, LEROY FREDRICK was born July 19, 1921 in Independence, Iowa the son of Fredrick and Nellie (Ciesielski) Fowlkes. He married Lavonne “Bonnie” Wheelock Novebmer 26, 1945 in Waterloo, Iowa. LeRoy served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre.. He was employed at Hinson Manufacturing (Royal Division) retiring in 1981. LeRoy was past President of the Wesleyan Men of the Iowa-Minnesota District of the Wesleyan Church. He died Sunday, August 26, 2001 at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center at the age of 80 years.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, of Cedar Falls; one son, James of Ramsey, Minnesota; three daughters, Sherry Trustin of Parkersburg, Iowa, Josetta Kibbee of Waterloo, Iowa and Cyndi South of Raymond, Iowa; ten grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren; and two sisters, Virginia of Florida and Mary Jo Simpson of Carson, California
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ralph and Floyd Fowlkes, James Ackles and Calvin Manley; and two sisters, Alberta McClure and Buela Rosberg.
Services were 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2001 at Maywood Wesleyan Church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo Military graveside rites were conducted by the Cedar Falls American Legion Post #237. Memorials may be directed to the family.
FOX, LAURA D. , 40, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, February 2, 2004, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa. She was born February 24, 1963, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Richard C. and Marcella (Shreck) Lorber. Laura married S. Brad Fox on July 16, 1983, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport. She graduated from Davenport West High School and from the University of Northern Iowa, with a B.A. in teaching. Laura taught kindergarten class for 16 years at St. Patrick Catholic School in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She is survived by her husband, Brad and her children, Emma C. and Benjamin S. Fox, all of Cedar Falls; her brother, Lance (Lynn) Lorber, of Davenport; her sister-in-law, Melissa (Mark) Johansson and her father-in-law, Jim Fox, of Spencer, Iowa.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

FRANCISCO, CHARLES E. was born October 6, 1928 in Pattonsburg, Missouri, the son of Orville and Boline (Ellis) Francisco. He married Felicia Blasi on December 16, 1951 in Newark, New Jersey. Charles was a 24 year veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during WW II and the Korean Conflict. He was a weather forecaster for over 50 years with the U.S. Navy, the National Weather Service and locally with KWLO Radio. Charles died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at his home in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 73 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Felicia of Cedar Falls; two sons, Leo Francisco (Dawn) of La Porte City, Iowa and Bill Francisco of Iowa City, Iowa; a daughter, Amelia Rider (John) of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Michael, Marc, Felicia and Sean, and a sister, Helen Woodward of Cameron, Missouri.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Stephen Rider and a brother, Raymond Francisco.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Fall. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa, where military committal rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude's Hospital.
FRANDSEN, KAREN LYNNE , 64, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. She was born January 11, 1940 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence Everett and Doris Cecilia (Hubert) Frandsen. Karen was a longtime member of Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church and the church choir.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Frandsen and his friend Debbie Lowrey, of Cedar Falls.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Barbara Anne Frandsen Garrison.
Memorial services were 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church, with inurnment at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church Choir.
FRANKEN, ROBERT M. was born December 6, 1924 in Schaller, Iowa the son of Herman F. and Lillie M. (Swanson) Franken. He married Mary L. Weiking June 25, 1966 in West Salem, Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor Degree from Morningside College and a Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota. Robert was a teacher, principal, and guidance consultant in northwest Iowa prior to his employment as a Counselor for the Division of Vocational Rehabitation with the State Department of Public Instruction. He served clients in the Waterloo District and with the University of Northern Iowa Offices until his retirement in 1988. He was a veteran of the United States Army with three years of service during WWII. Robert died Friday, June 16, 2000 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo at the age of 75 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, and one daughter, Kate M. Castells and her husband, Paul, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; two grandsons, Christopher and Cameron; one brother, Gaylord F. Franken of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida; and two nephews, Alan Franken of Carmel, Indiana and Paul Franken of Lake Mary, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services were 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2000 at Nazareth Lutheran Church. Private family intermenty will be in Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Valley Hospice, or the U.N.I. Foundation for the Robert M. Franken School of Music Scholarship.
FREDERIKSEN, LESTER K. , 77, of Aplington, Iowa, died Friday, February 27, 2004 at Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington. Lester was born May 5, 1926, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Clarence and May (Krog) Frederiksen. He married Gwendolyn Bond on February 14, 1950, at Fredsville Lutheran Church in rural Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death on February 15, 1971. Lester married his second wife, Evelyn D. (Cutler) Blanchard on June 16, 1972, at Elk Point, South Dakota. She preceded him in death on August 6, 1996. He was a truck driver for many years with Swiss Valley in Waterloo, Iowa, where he retired in 1975.
He is survived by two sons, Douglas and Larry K. Frederiksen, both of Aplington, Iowa; a step-son, Joel (Becky) Blanchard, of Welcome, Minnesota; a step-daughter, Laurie (Jim) Wither, of Waterloo, Iowa; and twenty grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, both of his wives, a step-son James L. Blanchard, and a sister Margaret Schons.
Graveside committal services were 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls, where military rites were conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.
FREY, MARY ELLEN (BECKMANN) , 75, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital. She was born January 29, 1929 in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard F. and Florence D. (Mahoney) Beckmann. She was a 1947 graduate of Sumner High School and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She taught school in Bremer County, Iowa for three years and later worked at the Waverly Hospital in Waverly, Iowa. Mary also worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Waterloo and Waverly and retired in 1992 from Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after 25 years of service.
She is survived by her companion, Robert “Bob” Youngblut, of Waterloo; three daughters, Mary Allen, Dr. Laura Frey and Carol Grooms; three grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Westendorf; a sister-in-law, Claudia Schueller and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Bernard “Buzz’ Beckmann and Joseph Beckmann.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2004, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with intermenty at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Dialysis Center or Allen Memorial Hospital.
FRINK, MAURICE F. "MOSE" , 85, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Maurice was born January 27, 1919 in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Warren and Ellen (Weiss) Frink. He was a graduate of Waterloo West High School and served with the Army Air Corps during WW II. Maurice married Sofia Demetrakos on August 7, 1940 at the Little Brown Church near Nashua, Iowa. They later divorced. He married Evelyn Guyer Camarata in February of 1976 at their home in Waterloo, Iowa. Maurice was a florist for most of his life and was the Founder and President of Flowerama. He was also co-owner of Frink’s Greenhouses with his brother, the late Herbert W. Frink. Maurice assisted the Boy Scouts of America with their horticultural projects for many years and was a member of both the Society of American Florists and the Society of Iowa Florists.
Maurice is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Waterloo; his two daughters, Cathy (Ira) Kimm of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Tammy (David) Thornton of Ft. Collins, Colorado; a step-daughter, Mimi Camarata of Cedar Falls and a step-son, Ross Camarata of Rochester, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Holly, and Grant Kimm, and Reid, Kelsey, Scott and Lauren Thornton; four step-grandchildren, Damon Camarata, Dana Horn, and Kyle and Barrett Fitzpatrick; and a brother, Richard (Maylene) Frink of Cedar Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gregory Frink; a brother, Herbert W. Frink and a sister, Marcia Talley.

FRINK, RICHARD O. , 75, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Dick was born August 4, 1928, the son of Warren and Ellen (Weiss) Frink at Waterloo, Iowa. He married Maylene D. Nelson, July 7,1951 in Pipestone, Minnesota. Dick was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Navy. He owned and operated Rainbow Flowers for many years and retired in 1991. Dick was a member of the Elks Club, active member of the Falling Rock Walleye Club and was past president of the Iowa Society of Florists.
He is survived by his wife, Maylene of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two sons, Rich (Jacque) Frink of Janesville, Iowa and Dave (Linda) Frink of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four grandchildren, Nicole (Steve) Jackson, Tom Frink, Michael Frink and Ben Frink.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herbert and Maurice Frink and one sister, Marcia Talley.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the United Church of Christ, with intermenty at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church or the Falling Rock Walleye Club.
FRISCH, RICHARD L. "DICK" was born December 12, 1930 in Racine, Wisconsin the son of Edwin J. and Lilly (Hoth) Frisch. He married Loreen Jacobson November 27, 1955 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He served with the U. S. Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Dick was a planner with the Cedar Falls Utilities. He retired in July of 1994 after 34 years of service. He was a member of Cedar Falls American Legion Post #237 and enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, camping, and being with his family. Dick died Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at Sartori Memorial Hospital at 71 years of age.
Survivors include his wife, Loreen of Cedar Falls; three sons, Richard D. Frisch of Cedar Falls, Russell W. Frisch of Raymond, and Kevin E. Frisch of Dike; a daughter, Laura Ann Hammersley of LaPorte City; nine grandchildren, one great grandchild; and one brother, Melvin Frisch of Superior, Wisconsin.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Russell, Ralph, and Harold Frisch and one sister, Betty Martin.
Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2002, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
FROST, EMILY MAE, was born February 18, 1930, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Emil M. and Lula Mae (Engle) Hanna. She married Delmer C. Boyer, and he preceded her in death in 1977. Emily married Dale F. Frost on July 28, 1967 in Galena, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 29, 1992. Emily was a Certified Nursing Assistant for many years at both Windsor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Falls, and the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, retiring in 1999. She died Monday, April 23, 2001, at her home in Cedar Falls, at 71 years of age.
Emily is survived by her three sons, Larry Boyer and his wife Rashelle of Cedar Falls, Jim Boyer of Cedar Falls, and Greg Boyer and his wife Tammy of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Michelle Bisbee and her husband Scot of Waterloo, and Marcy Frost of Cedar Falls; ten grandchildren, Brian and Blue Boyer, Shenita Barnes, Guy Boyer, Skyler and Lindsey Boyer, Timothy Frost, Cody Figi, Jennifer Abkes and Gordon Abkes; eight great-grandchildren and her special friend, Les Kalvig of Ionia, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands and her parents, and her four brothers, Howard, Everett, Vernon and Percy Hanna.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 26 at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
FULLBRIGHT, RUSSELL 73, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He was born September 8, 1930 at Charles City, Iowa the son of Emmitt & Evelyn (Brooks) Fullbright. He married Evelyn Yeaton November 29, 1953 in Cedar Falls. Russell served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in 1956 with a B.A. in Industrial Arts. He was employed at Clay Equipment for 29 years retiring as Chief Engineer. He then owned and operated Russ Ltd for 10 years. Russ was a member of the Cedar Falls Rotary Club for 35 years where he had served as secretary and was also a member of the United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Cedar Falls; three sons, Scott Fullbright of Waterloo, Mark W. (Monica) Fullbright of Edina, Minnesota, and J. William (Polly) Fullbright of Clive, Iowa; one daughter, Carmen Fullbright of West Des Moines, Iowa, his first grandchild due in October; and three sisters, Pat Williams and Lois (Marv) Diemer of Cedar Falls, and Karen McCombs of Marshalltown. Russ was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Fullbright and one sister, Betty Pashby.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2004 at United Church of Christ with burial in Greenwood Cemetery with flag folding rites conducted by Cedar Falls AMVET Post #49. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
FULLER, DARWIN E. was born October 26, 1946 at Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Vern B. and Maudie Belle (Carpenter) Fuller. He served in the United States Navy in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1970. Darwin married Barbara J. Cox July 26, 1971 at Waterloo, Iowa. He retired from John Deere & Company on December 31, 2001. Darwin died Monday, April 22, 2002 at his home in Waterloo, Iowa, at the age of 55 years.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Waterloo, Iowa; one son, Benjamin Fuller and two daughters, Tammy Weisenberger and Debra Bergen, all of Waterloo, Iowa; two grandchildren, Sedonna and Sevannah Weisenberger and one step-grandchild, Nick Bergen; two brothers, Sylvester Fuller of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Russel Fuller of Kissimmee, Florida and two sisters, Gladys Fitzgerald of Peoria, Illinois and Beverly Yarrington of Buckingham, Iowa. Darwin was preceded in death by his parents.
