Barbara J. Barber
Barbara J. Barber, 53, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997, at her residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nativity Catholic Church, with Monsignor Michael D. Sernette officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.
Mrs. Barber was born July 19, 1944, in Sioux City, the daughter of Albert and Doris (Gales) Mullen. She married Robert Barber on June 26, 1974, in Elk Point, S.D. She was employed as a nurse for Dr. James Walston.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; a son, Jonathan of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Jami and Rob Wallace of Concord, N.C.; two grandchildren, Amber and Chandelle Wallace; three brothers, Michael Mullen of San Francisco, Calif., Thomas Mullen and his wife Judy of Sioux City and John Mullen and his wife Pam of Dakota City; and two sisters and their husbands, Jana and Bill Allen of Vallejo, Calif. and Kathy and Ed Heutinck of Lawton, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Rose C. O'Donnell
Rose Clara (Smith) O'Donnell, 92, of Rochester Hills, Mich., formerly of Sioux City, died June 12, 1997, in Rochester Hills.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City.
Mrs. O'Donnell was born July 8, 1904, in Mayfield, S.D. She graduated from Southern State Normal School in Springfield, S.D. in 1927. She taught in country schools in South Dakota. She married Richard O'Donnell on June 2, 1931. The couple made their home in Sioux City.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar Society for the church.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Ann and Douglas Youngdahl of Tulsa, Okla. and Rosemary and James Lynch of Rochester Hills; a son and his wife, Patrick and Carole of Carroll, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Howard L. Hall, 88, of Sioux City died Monday; Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.
Thelma (Graham) Walters, 90, of Brandon, Miss., formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

LITTLE SIOUX, Iowa - Sabra Conyers, 92, of Little Sioux died Wednesday at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa. Burial will be in Little Sioux Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

CHARTER OAK, Iowa - Edward Goslar, 65, of Charter Oak died Wedensday at the Crawford County Memorial Hoapital in Denison, Iowa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak.
Mary J. Horak
WINNEBAGO, Neb. - Mary J. (O'Gorman) Horak, 103, of Prairie Village, Kan., formerly of Winnebago, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Prairie Village. Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Michael's Cemetery at South Sioux City. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a rosary at 8 p.m., at The Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, Kan.
Mrs. Horak was born Aug. 13, 1894, in Manning, Iowa. She married Joseph F. Horak in September 1917, in Winnebago. He died in 1942. She had lived in Winnebago, O'Neill, Neb. and Prairie Village for over two years.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Joseph F. and Valera E. of Winnebago; two daughters, Florence M. McCarville of Prairie Village and Jean H. Weber of Roeland Park, Kan.; 14 grandchidlren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frances B. McGuire of Sioux City.
Alden L. Johnson
WAKEFIELD, Neb. - Alden L. Johnson, 73, of Wakefield died Thursday at the Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Neb.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Burial will be in Wakefield City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Bressler-Humlicek Funeral Home in Wakefield.
William F. Langel
REMSEN, Iowa - William F. Langel, 69, of Remsen died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at his residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart and the Rev. John J. McGuirk officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Mr. Langel was born March 21, 1928, in rural Oyens, Iowa, the son of Frank and Christine (Rolfes) Langel. He was raised in the Le Mars, Iowa area and graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School in 1946. He was employed as a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Le Mars.
He married Isabelle Kaschmitter on Feb. 7, 1950, in Le Mars. The couple made their home near Remsen, where they farmed for 47 years.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Remsen Union School board, as a Union Township Trustee, a Union Township Accessor, a ASC committeeman, the Plymouth County Compensation board, and the Naval Reserves. He enjoyed golf and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; four sons and their wives, Rod and Cyndi of St. Charles, Mo., Rick and Marian of Le Mars, Bill Jr. and Lisa of Kingsley, Iowa, and Craig and Pam of Remsen; five daughters and their husbands, Nadine and Philip Steines of Sandpoint, Idaho, LeAnn and Mike Wiederholt of Remsen, Lori and Wayne Ibarolle of Yankton, S.D., Peggy and Brent Thie of Centerville, Iowa, and Kay and Dirk Bloyer of Odebolt, Iowa; 34 grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Vic and Eileen and Ray and Dorothy, all of Le Mars; and two sisters, Mary Ellen and her husband Henry Boden of Le Mars and Mildred Junkers of Minneapolis, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ed, Cliff and Lawrence; and two sisters, Adella Bivins and Helen Ney.
Pallbearers will be Paul Bloyer, Tyler and Zachary Langel, Ben Steines, Jerod Ibarolle, and Ted Wiederholt.
Norris M. Winquist
ALCESTER, S.D., - Norris Milton Winquist, 82, of Alcester died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997, at his residence.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Big Springs Baptist Church in rural Alcester, with the Rev. Daryl Runion officiating. Burial will be in Big Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Wass Funeral Home in Alcester.
Mr. Winquist was born Oct. 7, 1914, in rural Union County, S.D., the son of Charles and Signe (Cedergren) Winquist. He attended Dodd School and Alcester High School, then later began farming.
He married Cleo Joustra on Aug. 29, 1940, in rural Akron, Iowa. The couple moved to the Sioux City area and later farmed in the Akron and Big Springs areas. In 1978, they moved into Alcester.
He was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church, where he was a church trustee, the Alcester's Lion's Club and served on the Big Springs Cemetery board. He enjoyed camping.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Lynda and Harlow Johnson and Cynthia and Samuel Gates, all of Alcester; five grandchildren, Jason, Hayley and Mindy Johnson, John and Kyle Gates; and two brothers, Wallace of Portland, Ore. and Elwood and his wife Lois of Akron.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn and one brother, Quinton.
Pallbearers will be Jason Johnson, John and Kyle Gates, Roger Sonichsen, and Tim Winquist.

Irene Brown
Irene Brown, 81, of Garland, Texas, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997, at the Baylor Medical Center in Garland.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Garland, with the Rev. Ron Holloman officiating. Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Inc. of McKinney, Texas is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Brown was born Oct. 11, 1915, in Sioux City, the daughter of Chris and Vibekke (Thomsen) Wilson. She married Kenneth W. Brown on April 29, 1939, in Sioux City. The couple had resided in Quanah, Texas for 35 years before moving to Garland. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was the first woman to be elected an elder, the Tuberculosis Association, the American Cancer Association and the American Heart Association. She was a volunteer at the Quanah Hospital in Quanah, Texas and a tutor at the Club Hill Elementary School in Garland.
Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, John and Liz of Plano, Texas; two daughters and their husbands, Christine and George Steele of Heath, Texas and Marianne and Joe Jennings of Rowlett, Texas; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ray Wilson of Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Garland.
Phyllis Deatherage
Phyllis (Hamilton) Deatherage, 68, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, at the Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif. following a brief illness.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Valley Oaks Memorial Park Chapel in West Village, Calif., with the Rev. John Zimmer officiating. Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura, Calif. is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Deatherage was born Dec. 1, 1928, in Sioux City, the daughter of Robert Livingston and Sadie (Shoop) Hamilton. She was employed as an accountant with Insurance North America for 18 years, retiring in 1975. She had lived in Campbell, Calif. before moving to Thousand Oaks six years ago.
Survivors include two sisters, Edna Griep and Burnace and her husband Marls Goodrich, all of Iowa; five nieces; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Marian Phipps and Faye Miller.
Memorials may be directed to the Providence St. Joseph Foundation Nursing Program in Burbank or the Humane Society in Ojai, Calif.
John G. Goettsch
John G. Goettsch, 82, of Sioux City died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Laird Keever officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Goettsch was born April 15, 1915, in Sioux City, the son of Henry and Ella (Hoeck) Goettsch. He graduated from Central High School in 1933. He served in the U.S Army as a captain during World War II.
He married Marie E. Koch on April 18, 1936, in South Sioux City. He was employed as a promotional manager and artist for the Sioux City Journal for 35 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church, the American Legion Monahan Post 64, the Landmark Masonic Lodge 103 A.F. & A.M. and the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple.
Survivors include his wife; four sons and their wives, James "Ed" and Norene of Bigstone City, S.D., Jack and Janice of Eden Prairie, Minn., Charles and Linda of Japan, and David and Janet of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; two daughters, Judith O'Meara of Grossepoint Farms, Mich. and Jean Rossmar of Concho, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Michael, Pat and Molly O'Meara, and Tim, John and Jane Goettsch.
Alcide Loisel
Alcide Loisel, 74, of Sergeant Bluff died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997, at his residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Michael C. Wolfram officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Salix, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.
Mr. Loisel was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Cloquet, Minn. He married Donna Wick on Feb. 7, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minn.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving 22 years. His awards and decorations include the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Army Good Conduct Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Occupation Medal for Japan, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.
He was employed with Balsam-Wool and Match Mill and was the Co-op manager, both in Cloquet, Minn. The couple moved to Sergeant Bluff in 1964. He was employed as the manager of the Sioux City Boat Club, a counselor of the Boys and Girls Home in Sioux City and a counselor for Region 4 in South Sioux City.
He was a member of Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church, where he was a former elder and church historian and taught Sunday School. He was a volunteer for the National Park Service and Laborers for Christ.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters and their husbands, Linda and David Choquette, Lois and Norman Plantenberg and Laurel and Thomas Tainter, all of Sergeant Bluff; a daughter-in-law, Roberta Loisel of Sergeant Bluff; 15 grandchildren, Jill Scott, Larry Jr. and Michael Loisel, Paul, William, Joshua and Nicole Choquette, Mark, Gary, Brian and Randy Plantenberg, Lisa Marksburg, and Tawnya, Jennifer and Joel Tainter; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, George of Golden Eagle, Ill., Harry of Cloquet and Raymond of Procter, Minn.; and two sisters, Roseanna Schultz of International Falls, Minn. and Evelyn Loisel of South Haven, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry; a grandchild; two brothers, Felix and Gerald; and two sisters, Marcella and Lorraine.
Mercedes M. Moore
Mercedes M. Moore, 93, of Sioux City died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:45 a.m. today at the Holy Spirit Chapel, with the Rev. LeRoy Seuntjens officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Bloomfield, Neb. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Holy Spirit Chapel. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Moore was born Dec. 7, 1903, in Hubbard, Neb., the daughter of John J. and Katherine (Ford) Killackey. She graduated from St. Andrew's High School in Bloomfield, attended Wayne Teacher College and National Business Training in Sioux City.
She married Maurice "Bill" Moore on June 17, 1926, in Bloomfield. He died Jan. 13, 1979, in Bloomfield. She taught school near Bloomfield for three years and then was a bookkeeper for the Singer Company in Omaha, Neb.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Bloomfield, the Altar Society, Legion of Mary, and the Diocesan Deanery. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed reading and stitchery.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Marcia and Tom Burke of Sioux City; four sons, William of Las Vegas, Nev., Dr. Robert and his wife Ellen of Rolla, Mo., Tom of San Francisco, Calif., and John and his wife Barbara of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, James Killackey of West Covina, Calif.; two sisters, Marcella Killackey of West Covina and Kathryn Barnett of Holiday, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a step great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two brothers and a sister.
Roger G. Mulder
Roger G. Mulder, 53, of Sioux City died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at his residence.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill G. Mueller, chaplain of 185th Air Guard, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery at Orange City, with military rites conducted by the Orange City American Legion Pressman-Koster Post 329. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Mulder was born Dec. 27, 1943, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Gerald and Winnie (Bos) Mulder. He was raised near Carnes, Iowa. He attended Western Christian Grade School in Hull, Iowa and graduated from Western Christian High School in Orange City. He had been a resident of Sioux City for 20 years.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a current member of the 185th Iowa Air National Guard, where he was with the Civil Engineering Division. He was the recipient of several military awards and decorations. He was currently employed with Quality Plumbing and previously with Hagen Plumbing for several years.
He was a member of Trimble United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his mother of Orange City; two daughters and their husbands, Mindi and Pat Maras of Alton, Iowa and Tami and Joe Hunt of Granville, Iowa; three brothers, Chuck and his wife Jackie of Hospers, Iowa, Tim and his wife Glenda of Orange City and Ken of Sheldon, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Wanda and Richard Jilderda of Elk Point, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; three stepchildren; and nine step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Earnest O. Murdock, 75, of Sioux City died Monday at the Matney Westside Manor following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Central Assembly of God. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Kermit W. Reynolds
Kermit W. Reynolds, 90, of Sioux City died Tuesday at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church. Burial will be in Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Hinton, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Lois M. Smythe
Lois Marie Smythe, 84, of Sioux City died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be at 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Holy Spirit Retirement Home Chapel, with the Rev. LeRoy L. Suentjens officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the chapel. Larkin Northside Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Miss Smythe was born Jan. 1, 1913, in Sioux City, the daughter of Antonie and Julia E. (Ryan) Smythe. She graduated from Central High School in 1930, and attended Briar Cliff College and the National Business Training College.
She was employed as an executive secretary for T.S. Martin for five years, Swift and Company for 25 years and Chicago Northwestern Railroad for five years. She retired at the age of 65.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the church Confraternity. She was an avid bridge player.
Survivors include a brother, Robert of Sioux City and her cousins.
She was preceded in death by a brother Willis.
Harry L. Trumbull
Harry L. Trumbull, 74, of Dakota City died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997, at a Sioux Falls, S.D. hospital following a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. The body will be cremated and burial will be at a later date in Willamette National Cemetery at Portland, Ore.
Mr. Trumbull was born June 17, 1923, in South Sioux City, the son of George W. and Lillian M. (Easton) Trumbull. He was raised in the Dakota City area and graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed in construction in Alaska from 1950 to 1963. He returned to Dakota City in 1963.
He was a former member of the American Legion in Dakota City.
He is survived by his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl, Elmer and Harlie; and an infant sister.

GEORGE, Iowa - Evelyn Blumeyer, 85, of George died Monday at the Rock Rapids (Iowa) Health Centre.

SCHLESWIG, Iowa - Reggie Bruhn, 45, of Schleswig died Monday at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Lawrence B. Collins
MAPLETON, Iowa - Lawrence B. Collins, 67, of Mapleton died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 496 of Mapleton. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mr. Collins was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Danbury, Iowa, the son of Daniel and Kate (Meier) Collins. He attended Danbury Catholic School and St. Patrick's Academy in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1949 and was recalled during the Korean War stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Polk, La. from 1950 to 1951.
He married Leona Flynn on Aug. 17, 1953, in Mapleton. He was employed as a parts salesman for Barry Motor in Danbury, Potts Sales in Sioux City, Automotive Parts in Denison, and Brown Auto Supply in Mapleton. In 1965, he started his own parts business in Mapleton and expanded the business to Onawa, Iowa and Ida Grove, Iowa.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he served on the advisory committee and as a Eucharistic minister, the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, where he was a past Grand Knight. He served as a Monona County supervisor from 1991 to 1994. He was also a member of the Maple Valley Development and the Mapleton Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Stephen of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Michael and his wife Carol of Lancaster, Calif., Shawn and his wife Jill of Mapleton, Tim and his wife Jennifer of Omaha, and William "Bill" of Council Bluffs, Iowa; four daughters, Pat and her husband Jim Birkel of Omaha, Diane and her husband Gary King of Des Moines, Mary Collins of Denver, Colo., and Carol Collins of Houston, Texas; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers and their wives, Donald and Helen of Omaha, Clem and Mary of Rockford, Ill. and Earl and Donna of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters and their husbands, Mary Alice and Major Leon of La Crescenta, Calif., Celine and Bob Poyner of San Angelo, Texas and Laura and Larry Rogge of Las Vegas; two sisters-in-law, Pat Collins of Omaha and Elaine Collins of Mapleton; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Dr. James and Fran Flynn of Mission Hills, Kan.

Mary Ann McCormick
SANBORN, Iowa - Mary Ann (Schubert) McCormick, 65, of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Sanborn, died Monday in Amarillo.

Gerald F. Rohmiller
MERRILL, Iowa - Gerald F. Rohmiller, 71, of rural Merrill died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, at his residence.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellendale, Iowa, with the Rev. Richard D. Ball officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 8 p.m., at the Larkin Northside Funeral Home.
Mr. Rohmiller was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Fred and Helen (Brummer) Rohmiller. He was raised in Mapleton and lived in Lawton, Iowa a brief time. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946.
He married Virginia A. Morley on Sept. 27, 1948, in Sioux City. He lived in Sioux City from 1948 to 1965, when he moved to rural Merrill. He was employed as a manager of Jerry Services Station in Sioux City from 1950 to 1954, he then became a self-employed trucker making local hauls from 1954 to 1965. He had farmed since 1965.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed raising Arabian horses.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Gary and his wife Pearl and Kevin, all of Sioux City, Greg and his wife Maureen of Merrill, and Shaun and his wife Becky of Dayton, Ohio; three daughters and their husbands, Luanne and Mike Buffum, Michelle and Greg Collins and Lisa and Steve Arens, all of Sioux City; three brothers, Joseph of Le Mars, Iowa, Lloyd of Sioux City and John Ronald of Bakersfield, Calif.; five sisters, Gertrude Swanger, Marcile Munson, Darlene Nolen, and Noreen Schmidt, all of Sioux City, and Elaine Rickert of Denison, Iowa; 23 grandchildren, Gerald, Nicholas, Marlin, Kevin, Crystal, Patricia, Carter, Sara, Amy, Bobby, Emily, Chelsee, Joshua, and Cole Rohmiller, Alicia Krohn, Chad, Mark, and William Buffum, Ian and Brittany Collins, Tempesst, Sophia and Chase Arens; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Bridgett and Gary Martin Rohmiller Jr.; a brother, Bernard; and a sister, Patricia Bohlman.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Agnes Thoreson
ONAWA, Iowa - Agnes Thoreson, 91, of Onawa died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Soldier Lutheran Cemetery at Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.
Miss Thoreson was born July 14, 1906, in Humbolt, S.D., the daughter of Theodore and Levina Christine (Larson) Thoreson. She was raised by her grandmother, Agnet Skow in Brandt, S.D., following her mothers death. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Brandt High School in 1926. Following graduation, she moved to Soldier.
In 1927, she attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She had taught at Hartigan School in Soldier Township, Jordon Township 8 for three years, Hiawatha in Belvidere Township for two years, Willow 8 in Willow Township, Moorehead, Iowa, for one year, and returned to Willow 8. In 1948, she moved to Onawa, where she taught first grade.
In 1949, she received her teaching certificate at Cedar Falls and upgraded her teaching certificate at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. She retired in 1971, after teaching for 43 years.
She was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, the National Teachers Retirement Association, the State Association of Retired Teachers, the Iowa State Education Association, and the National Education Association.
She is survived by her cousins.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Nicholie Thoreson.
Paul J. Vondrak
JEFFERSON, S.D. - Paul J. Vondrak, 76, of Jefferson, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at the Larkin Northside Funeral Home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
