ODEBOLT, Iowa - Herbert C. Bauer, 69, of Odebolt died Thursday at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Martin Catholic Church in Odebolt. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Juan Guerrero
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Juan Antonio Guerrero, 25, of Sioux Center died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital from injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Burial will be in Mexico at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Clinton Shinkle
ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - Clinton Stanley Shinkle, 102, of Rock Rapids died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at his residence following an extended illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christian Church (Disciples) in Rock Rapids, with the Rev. Greg Pudwell officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Graceland Cemetery in Madison, S.D. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and a Masonic service at 7 p.m., by the Border Lodge 406 A.F. & A.M., at the Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

Mr. Shinkle was born July 27, 1895, on a farm northeast of Quimby, Iowa, the son of Charles Henry and Loretta Louisa (Smith) Shinkle. He attended school in Iowa before moving with his mother to a farm near Egan, S.D., where he continued his education. He farmed in the Egan and Flandreau, S.D. areas. Later the family moved to Madison, S.D., where he began working as an electrical lineman. He later completed training as a mechanic.

He married Ethel Tystad on Dec. 31, 1931. The couple lived in Madison later moving to Howard, S.D., for five years. Over the years he worked in Portland, Ore., and Pipestone, Minn., before moving to Rock Rapids in 1943. He was employed as a lineman for the Rock Rapids Utility Department for 22 years, semi-retiring in 1965, working part-time until 1970. In 1968 he began employment as bailiff at the Lyon County Court House. He officially retired in 1989, at the age of 94.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 57 years, longtime member of Christian Church (Disciples), where he served as treasurer, Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the board and Elder.

He was an active person and enjoyed traveling by car, making many cross country trips, and reading and reciting poetry.

On his 100th birthday he was named honorary Heritage Day parade marshall in Rock Rapids.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Loretta and Howard Burright of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gayla and Arnold Tiedeman of Hull, Iowa; a son and his wife, Clinton Jr. and Martha of Bremerton, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-great-grandchild

James M. Kots
IRETON, Iowa - James M. Kots, 81, of rural Ireton died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa, with the Rev. Dan Swenson and the Rev. Matt Swenson officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Visitation will be Sunday, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Mr. Kots was born Jan. 16, 1916, in Maurice, Iowa, the son of Gerrit and Florence (Popma) Kots. He attended school at Maurice.

He married Katherine Verdoorn on Feb. 25, 1943, in Sioux Center, Iowa. The couple resided in the Maurice area, later living near Hudson, S.D. and Fairview, S.D., before returning to the Ireton area in 1974.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Sandra and Ron Carlson of Beresford, S.D.; a son and his wife, Gary and Brenda of Ireton; six sisters, Pearl Kots of Marshalltown, Iowa, Esther Coleman of Sanford, N.C., Rose Jones of Dumont, Iowa, Ruby Veltkamp of Canton, S.D., Goldie Bowman of Elgin, Neb., and Daisy Headrick of Powersville, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Adrianna Kots of Birnamwood, Wis.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, James, in infancy; two brothers, George and Hubert; and two sisters, Violet and Ethel.

Wynola M. Vining
PIERSON, Iowa - Wynola M. "Hoby" Vining, 87, of Pierson died Friday at Kingsley Nursing & Rehab Center in Kingsley, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Kingsley. Burial will be in the Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 8 p.m., at the Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.

VERMILLION, S.D. - B.H. "Bud" Benson, 72, of Vermillion died Thursday at his residence in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bergen Lutheran Church in Meckling, S.D. Burial will be in Bergen Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service beginning at 3 p.m., at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion.

MOORHEAD, Iowa - LaVonne Baeth, 88, of Moorhead died Thursday at Hospice Kavanagh House.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at RLDS Church in Pisgah, Iowa. Burial will be held privately in Moorhead Cemetery. Brooks Funeral Home of Clive, Iowa is handling arrangements.

Carl S. Callaghan
SMITHLAND, Iowa - Carl S. Callaghan, 92, of Smithland died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Smithland, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery in Smithland. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., and a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at the church. The Willman Funeral Home of Rodney, Iowa, is handling arrangements.

Mr. Callaghan was born Aug. 18, 1905, at home near Oto, Iowa, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Weber) Callaghan. He graduated from Smithland High School in 1924.

He married Virginia McClaran in 1928, in Nebraska. He farmed in the Smithland area before retiring in 1966, and moving into Smithland.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, Amicable Lodge 289 A.F. & A.M. at Smithland, Quarry Lodge 404 A.F. & A.M. at Mapleton, Iowa, and a 50 year member of Sioux City Consistory.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Fern and her husband, Dick Struble of Sacramento, Calif., and Betty Towne of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Minnie Eichhorn of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl, and a sister, Jennie Claus.

Annie Bolte
SMITHLAND, Iowa - Annie Kathryn Bolte, 91, of Sioux City, formerly of Smithland, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Matney Morningside Manor in Sioux City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Oto United Church of Christ in Oto, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Handke and the Rev. Alan Bolte officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Anthon, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. The Willman Funeral Home of Rodney, Iowa, is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Bolte was born Aug. 3, 1906, in Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna (Beyer) Sands.

She married Emil Bolte on June 6, 1931, in Onawa, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Anthon, Bronson, Corectionville, and Oto, Iowa areas, retiring in 1969, and moving to Smithland. They entered Matney Morningside Manor on Dec. 18, 1986. He died Feb. 2, 1987.

She was baptized in the Midway Lutheran Church at Anthon.

She enjoyed her garden and her many flowers.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Herman and Evelyn of Odin, Minn.; four grandchildren; the Rev. Alan Bolte, Scott Bolte, Ron Bolte, and Sandy Youngblom; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; two sisters, Frieda Paulson of Oto and Mary Ketelsen of Smithland; and five brothers, Fred of Moville, Iowa, Albert of Correctionville, Walter and his wife, Vivian of Butterfield, Minn., Louis of Correctionville, and John and his wife, Darlene of Moville.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a son, Gene, in 1996; two infant great-grandsons; and a brother, Rudy.

SCHLESWIG, Iowa - Catherine Joan Miller, 68, of Schleswig died Thursday at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Miriam Hearing Chambers
Miriam Hearing Chambers, 42, of Clarksville, Tenn., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, from cancer.

Memorial service was held Dec. 10, 1997, at First Baptist Church in St. Bethlehem, Tenn.

Mrs. Chambers was born March 9, 1955, in Sioux City, the daughter of Russell and Dorthy Hearing.

She was a member of the first graduating class of West High School in 1973.

She married Donald Chambers of Phillips, Neb., on Aug. 9, 1973.

She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, enjoying crafts and gardening.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Monica Wisnewski of Belleville, Ill., and Abigail Chambers of Clarksville; her parents; two sisters, Jeanette Friesen of Walton, Kan., and Elaine Brown of Sioux City; and three brothers, Duane and Dwight Hearing of Sioux City, and Tim Hearing of Hendersonville, Tenn.

Dr. Edward H. Murphy
Dr. Edward H. Murphy, 71, of Seattle, Wash., formerly of Sioux City, died Dec. 5, 1997.

Dr. Murphy was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Mabel and Ray Murphy.

He served in the United States Marines in World War II. He received two purple hearts, a bronze star, and a silver star, for acts of bravery in WW II. As often as possible he reunited with his Marine comrades.

He attended Palmer Chiropractic College from 1963 to 1966, in Davenport, Iowa. He opened his practice in 1966, in Seattle.

In 1970, he was elected president of Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce, in 1971 he was elected president of Seattle-King County Chiropractors Association.

He traveled all over the world. At age 59 he flew over Florida in a hot air balloon and parachuted from a plane in Washington, fulfilling two lifelong dreams.

Survivors include two sons, James E. Murphy and Mark F. Murphy, and a daughter, Jean M. Murphy.

Florence A. Rice, 84, of Sioux City died Saturday at a local nursing home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Ida Grove Cemetery in Ida Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Anderson-Perasso Funeral Chapel.

Fred I. Hutchins
Fred I. Hutchins, 71, of Sioux City died Friday at his residence.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Frances B. McGuire
Frances B. McGuire, 99, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at her residence.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Schimmer and the Rev. Thomas Geelan officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Danbury Catholic Cemetery in Danbury, Iowa, with the Rev. David J. Hogan officiating.

Visitation, with the family present, will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at the Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Mrs. McGuire was born March 9, 1898, in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Olive (McConnell) O'Gorman. She was raised in the Midwest, moving to Danbury in 1923, and to Sioux City in 1969.

She was employed as a telephone operator prior to marriage.

She married James McGuire on Sept. 21, 1926, in Danbury. He died Jan. 31, 1968, in Danbury.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen McGuire of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Thomas and Dolores McGuire of Browns Valley, Calif., and John and Rosemarie of Arcadia, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Monica McGuire of Arcadia; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Joe McGuire; a grandson, Michael McGuire; five brothers, Charles, James, Philip, and Thomas O'Gorman, and one in infancy; and two sisters, Mary Horak and Anne O'Gorman.

Pallbearers will be, Daniel, David Richard, Patrick, Matthew, Dennis and Tim McGuire.

WAKEFIELD, Neb. - Gilbert Burley Sharp, 70, and Claudia Jean Sharp, 64, of Wakefield died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, from injuries sustained in a traffic accident near Hubbard, Neb.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Assembly of God Church in Pender, Neb., with the Rev. John Bellar officiating. Burial will be in the afternoon at Wakefield, Neb., Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Bressler-Humlicek Funeral Home in Wakefield.

Mr. Sharp was born March 16, 1927, in Zena, Okla., the son of Tom and Myrtle (Crull) Sharp. He attended Jay, Okla., school and joined the United States Navy as corpsman at age 19.

Mrs. Sharp was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Tahlequah, Okla., the daughter of Joseph E. and Fredonia (Neet) Beck. She attended the Jay, Okla. school.

The couple married on April 16, 1949, in Jay.

His service career took them to Japan and 40 of the United States. After 30 years with the Navy they left San Diego, Calif., moving to Wakefield. He was employed at Big Red Farms for M.G. Waldbaum Company until 1991.

The couple were members of Pender Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dean and Kathi Sharp of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Laura and Frank Rosinski of Great View, Wash.; three grandchildren; her mother; her two sisters, Jackie Wilkerson of Wakefield and Billie Jo and her husband, Bill Ramsey of Kansas City, Kan.; her two brothers and their wives, Harrison and Margie Beck of Nashville, Tenn., and Gene and Sharon Harper of Eldorado Hills, Calif.; and his two sisters, Pauline and Avis.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Church of Pender in Pender. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, Neb. A family gathering will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender.

DECATUR, Neb. - Leon "Andy" Anderson, 54, died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Decatur. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah, Neb. Visitation will resume Monday one hour before the service at the church.

John Scherer
AVON, S.D. - John Henry Scherer, 85, of Avon, formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at his daughters residence, following a long illness.

Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner, S.D. Burial will follow.

Mr. Scherer was born Nov. 4, 1912, in Wagner, S.D.

He married Vivian Coles, of Wagner, on Feb. 20, 1937.

He was employed as a union carpenter and millwright, retiring in 1975.

He was a Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Wayne and Elaine of Yankton, S.D., and Ward and Mary of George, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, JoAnn and Marvin Frasch of Fairfax, S.D., and Jacqueline and Danny Bradley of Sioux City; two sisters, Martha and her husband, Vernell Kreeger of Wagner and LaVerna Houska of Hot Springs, S.D.; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; three daughters; three brothers; and three sisters.

DOW CITY, Iowa - Burdette Adams, 78, of Dow City died Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Hospital in Omaha, Neb.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Dow City. Burial will be in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Charter Oak, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa.

Herbert C. Bauer
ODEBOLT, Iowa - Herbert Charles Bauer, 69, of Odebolt died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Martin Catholic Church in Odebolt, with the Rev. Allan A. Reicks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m., and a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mr. Bauer was born Nov. 3, 1928, in Arthur, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Frances (Miller) Bauer. He graduated from Odebolt High School in 1946.

He married Maxine Pudenz on June 28, 1954, in Odebolt.

He was employed at the grocery store in Odebolt for many years, purchasing it in 1971. He operated Herb's Foodland until retiring in 1979. He worked for the Sac County Golf & Country Club for five years.

He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed family time, golfing, playing cards, and watching sporting events.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Gerald and Kathy of Sumner, Iowa, and Tony and Gedget of Odebolt; a daughter and her husband, Mary and Mark Peterson of Dassel, Minn.; six grandchildren, Gabrielle and Jacob Bauer, Casey, Katie and Luke Peterson, and Samantha Bauer; two brothers and their wives, Louis and Vivian of Waterloo, Iowa, and Clement and Jean of St. Louis, Mo.; and two sisters, Frances Kraus of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Marcella Pierce of Omaha, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Gerald and James; and two sisters, Margaret Henrich and Lucille Sampers.

James N. Garthright
JEFFERSON, S.D. - James N. "Jim" Garthright, 76, of Jefferson died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at Morningside Manor in Alcester, S.D., following a long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson, with the Rev. Andrew Swietochowski officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, with the family present from noon to 2 p.m., at the Berkemier Funeral Home in Sioux City, and will resume at 3 p.m., with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the church.

Mr. Garthright was born Nov. 24, 1921, in Janesville, Wis., the son of Charles and Beryl (Quigley) Garthright. The family moved to Jefferson, where he attended school.

He married Noella Bernard on May 14, 1941, in Jefferson.

He was employed at Cudahy and Swift Packing Companies for several years. He farmed for several years before working as a mechanic for the Sioux City Post Office garage for 21 years. He then carried mail for three years. He retired in 1978, due to Parkinsons Disease.

He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Letter Carriers' Union Branch 69, and had been a safety instructor for National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Jack and Jeane of Sioux City, Joe and Linda of Lawton, Iowa, and Tom and Peggy of Foxfield, Colo.; two daughters and their husbands, Judy and Lowell Vos of Kingsley, Iowa, and Peggy and John Gubbrug of Alcester; his mother; two brothers and their wives, Chuck and Wilma of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Jack and Judy of Hinton, Iowa; a sister, Mary Lou Slater of Cornelius, Ore.; 16 grandchildren, Phillip, Christine, Teresa, Paul, Holly, Melissa, Stephanie, Erin and Ryan Garthright, Monica Swords, Scott and Steve Van Egdom, and Jolyn Grathwohl; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; an infant daughter, Jeanne Anne; and a grandson, Todd Garthright.

SCHLESWIG, Iowa - Catherine Joan Miller, 68, of Schleswig died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa, following a long illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery in Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Miller was born July 29, 1929, in Smithland, the daughter of Frank and Nettie (Garved) Burkhart. She attended Rodney, Iowa, and Smithland schools.

She married Russell Miller on Aug. 23, 1945, in Onawa, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Rodney and Danbury, Iowa, Mapleton and Schleswig areas. In 1990, they moved into Schleswig.

She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Gary and Vicky of Vinton, Iowa; a daughter, Christine Adkins of Schleswig; three grandchildren, Lori and Darrin Miller, and Russell Adkins; and two sisters, Virginia Oregon and Sandra Linscott, both of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Carey Adkins.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Elsie K. Rasmussen
MAPLETON, Iowa - Elsie K. Rasmussen, 99, of Mapleton died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Shirley Textor and the Rev. Mark Smeltzer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mapleton. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Rasmussen was born May 6, 1898, in Mapleton, the daughter of Gustav and Katrina Elizabeth (Erickson) Tromstrom. She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1916. She was a lifelong resident of the Mapleton community.

She married Marion Rasmussen, Sr. in October of 1924. He died in 1944.

She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Marion Jr. and Sharon Rasmussen of Redmond, Wash.; and a grandson, Eric Rasmussen.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Rose G. Kutilek
VERMILLION, S.D. - Rose G. Kutilek, 99, of Vermillion died Saturday at Dakota Care Center in Vermillion.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion. Burial will be in St. Johns Catholic Cemetery in Lesterville, S.D. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at the church. The Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion is handling arrangements.

Marissa Marie Gashe
BLENCOE, Iowa - Marissa Marie Gashe, infant daughter of Harold Gashe and Tonya Carter was stillborn Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Center Cemetery in rural Castana, Iowa, with the Rev. Donald R. Ludwick officiating. There will be no visitation. The Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa is handling arrangements.

Survivors include her parents; maternal grandparents, Ronald Carter and Diane Carter, both of Onawa; paternal grandmother, Jessie Jones of Jeannerrette, La.; maternal great-grandparents, Herbert and Gwen Pranschke of Sioux City; paternal great-grandmother, Bertha Bryan of Onawa; and a brother, Trae Carter.

Juan Guerrero
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Juan Antonio Guerrero, 25, of Sioux Center died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital from injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

Services will be at 7 p.m. today at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Burial will be in Mexico at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wynola M. Vining
KINGSLEY, Iowa - Wynola M. "Hoby" Vining, 87, of Kingsley died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center in Kingsley.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Kingsley, with the Rev. John Crosswhite officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 8 p.m., at the Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Mrs. Vining was born Nov. 22, 1910, in Moville, Iowa, the daughter of William D. and Frances (Koon) Clark. She graduated from Kingsley High School.

She married Frank Arnold Vining on Aug. 21, 1929. He died Aug. 31, 1977.

She was employed as a nurse's aid at the former St. Joseph and Methodist Hospitals in Sioux City.

She was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church, and past president of Ladies Organization of Farm Bureau.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Wyman and LaVonne Vining of Denver, Colo.; two daughters and their wives, Darla and Jim Rock of Pierson, Iowa, and Penny and Larry Klingensmith of Washta, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marcella Brown of Denver, Colo.

She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Dale; half sister, Eva McNaughton; and half brother, Lester Steers.
