Aldeia L. Schweiberger
Aldeia L. Schweiberger, 96, of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City nursing home after a long illness.
The body was cremated and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date. There will be no visitation. The Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is handling arrangements.
Betty E. Schonrock
Betty E. Schonrock, 63, of Sioux City died Friday at her residence following a long illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m., and a scriptural wake service at 8 p.m., at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Lucy I. Myers
Lucy I. Myers, 81, of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Morningside Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Donald A. Robe
Donald A. Robe, 57, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, in Sioux City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Krishen Persaud of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Mr. Robe was born Nov. 28, 1940, in Sioux City, the son of Adolph and Anne (Mitchell) Robe. He graduated from East High School in 1959.
He was employed with Robb Ross after graduation until his enlistment with the United States Air Force. After military service he operated and auto repair business until the time of his illness in early 1997.
He served in the Air Force from 1962 to 1968.
Survivors include three daughters, Sheena, Megan, and Brittany Robe all of Sioux City; a sister, Shirley Nash of Inverness, Fla.; and a half-brother, James B. Smith of Wavpaca, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harry I. Nadler
Harry I. Nadler, 75, of Ames, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, in Dallas, Texas, of a sudden illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, with Mr. James Sherman, spiritual leader of Congregational Beth Shalom, officiating. Burial will be in Independent Farane Cemetery in Sioux City. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Nadler was born Sept. 1, 1922, in Sioux City, the son of Joseph and Fannie Nadler.
He resided in Ames for three years, 16 years in Minneapolis, Minn., 35 years in Mason City, Iowa, and 21 years in Sioux City.
He owned and operated Harry's Surplus in Mason City for 30 years.
Survivors include three sons, James of Dallas, Michael of Boca Raton, Fla., and Barry of Ames; a brother, Isadore Nadler of Waterloo, Iowa; three sisters, Toby Gossen of San Antonio, Texas, Gert Zeplain of Sioux City, and Pearl Gossen of San Antonio; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor and a son, Scott.
Warren A. Gasink
Warren A. Gasink, 70, of Stroudsburg, Penn., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997.
Services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at Stroudsburg United Methodist Church. The body was cremated. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City at a later date.
Mr. Gasink was born in Sioux City, the son of George and Maud (Hatter) Gasink.
He received his bachelor's degree from Morningside College in 1953. In 1955, he graduated from the University of Southern of California with a master's degree in communications.
He was employed at East Stroudsburg University as a speech communications professor for 26 years, retiring in 1991. He served as director of forensics for 20 years and was a past advisor for Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at the university. He also taught at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine.
He was a past treasurer of the Collegiate Forensic Association and a member of the Pi Kappa Delta National Speech fraternity.
He was a corpsman in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, and Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, and a member of the International Society of Poets of Washington, D.C.
He was an established author and composer.
Survivors include a son, John A. of East Stroudsburg; a daughter, Roxanne Reyna of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two sisters, Virginia Gasink Ferguson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Frances Gard of Sioux City.

Marilyn L. Jaynes
Marilyn L. Jaynes, 68, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Thomas Raphael Nakos of Crescent Park United Methodist Church officiating. Private burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery in Dakota City, Neb. There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Jaynes was born Oct. 13, 1929, in Sioux City, the daughter of Frank and Leona (Smith) Randall. She graduated from Central High School.
She married Glenn Jaynes on Dec. 21, 1956, in Pender, Neb. He died March 1, 1992 in Sioux City.
She was employed as a supervisor for H&R Block from 1978 to 1995. She was an enrolled agent licensed to practice before the IRS.
She was a member of Crescent Park United Methodist Church and a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
Survivors include two sons, Tom, and Jeff and his wife, Jamie, all of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Cindy and Mike Wood of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; a sister and her husband, June and Howard Wilson of Sioux City; and a brother and his wife, Michael and Joyce Randall of Williamsburg, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Johnny; a grandson, Christopher; and an infant brother, Tom.
Todd W. Call
Staff Sgt. Todd W. Call, 34, of Osan Air Force Base, near Seoul, South Korea, died unexpectedly on Thursday at the base.
Services are pending at First United Methodist Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City is handling arrangements.

Wesselena Smyttle
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Wesselena Smyttle, 69, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Sioux Center, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, in Sacramento.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Vander Ploeg Chapel in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Don Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today, with the family present after 1 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smyttle was born on Sept. 4, 1928, in Sioux Center, the daughter of John and Bertha (Eenkhoorn) Ter Haar.
She married Claude Smyttle on July 7, 1954, in Sioux City. The couple moved to California in 1955. He died in 1994.
Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Johanna) Meendering of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. John (Gertrude) Zommermand of Holland, Mich., and Mrs. Marvin (Bertha) Sjaarda of Paullina, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Carrie (Vander Helm) Ter Haar; a sister, Christina Ter Haar; and four brothers, Gerrit Ter Haar and three in infancy.
Richard R. Mahler
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Richard R. Mahler, 71, of rural Cherokee died Thursday in a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, with a family prayer service at 1:15 p.m., at Trinity Luthern Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Elsie M. Novotny
YANKTON, S.D. - Elsie Mary Novotny, 83, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Yankton, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at a hospital in Glendale, Ariz., following a long illness.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Phoenix. Burial will be in the National Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix. There will be a Scripture service at 7 p.m. Monday at the Hansen Mortuary in Phoenix.
Mrs. Novotny was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Yankton, the daughter of William and Anna Mitchell. She was a graduate of Yankton High School.
She married Wesley R. Novotny, a former mayor of Yankton, on Sept. 30, 1935. The couple owned and operated Novotny Greenhouses in Yankton for 40 years. They retired and moved to Arizona in 1978.
In Yankton, she was active in the community, serving as president of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altar Society and as a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Marilyn and her husband, James Cooley of Yankton, Jean Novotny of Phoenix; two sons, Wesley R. "Bud" Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., and William and his wife, Mary of Phoenix; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Marguerite Brown of Florence, Ore., Eileen Mitchell and Lucille Larsen of Salem, Ore.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; and a grandson.
Pallbearers will be Donald, Denise, David, Daniel, Thomas, and John Novotny.

Ruth F. Millard
AKRON, Iowa - Ruth F. Millard, 84, of Akron died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at the Akron Care Center following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton, Neb. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m., at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Mrs. Millard was born on May 7, 1913, in Sterling, Neb., the daughter of George Paul and Hannah Elizabeth (Buer) Meier. She was raised in Crofton, Neb., where she attended school and graduated from Crofton High School.
She married Richard Millard on Oct. 26, 1931, in Yankton, S.D. He died Aug. 8, 1981.
Prior to moving to Akron in 1965, the couple lived in Yankton and Desmet, S.D., and Creighton, Neb. They owned and operated the G-W Market for many years in Akron.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and had been a longtime member in the Book and Thimble Club.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Paul and Marilyn of Valentine, Neb.; a daughter and her husband, Jeanne and C.J. Hinrichsen of Akron; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Roma Lewis of Centerville, S.D.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Richard; two sisters, Thelma Schwartz and Marie Carmen; and two brothers, Clancy Meier and Richardeane Meier.
Pallbearers will be Scott and Tammy Millard, Julie Olson, Lisa and Doug Hastings, and Dick, Niki, and John Hinrichsen.
Bernice J. Block
HOSPERS, Iowa - Bernice J. Block, 68, of Hospers died unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hospers, with the Rev. Clum Currans officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Sunday, with a parish rosary at 4 p.m., and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the church. The Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen, Iowa, is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Block was born April 20, 1929, in rural Alton, Iowa, the daughter of Anton and Anna (Pick) Pottebaum. She was raised in the Alton area and received her education at St. Mary's Academy in Alton. She did domestic work in the Alton area prior to her marriage.
She married Ambrose Block on Nov. 16, 1948, in Alton. The couple lived near Hospers where they farmed. They moved into Hospers in 1990.
She was employed at Babcock Locker Plant in Alton since 1987.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the church Guild.
Survivors include her husband; two daughers, Linda Block and Diane and her husband, Gary Gesink all of Hospers; four grandchildren, Chris, Jennifer, Adam and Ashley Gesink, of Hospers; five sisters, Tarsella and her husband, Milo Probst and Mrs. Ray (Florence) Thole, all of Alton, Berdella and her husband, Herb Schueller of Primghar, Iowa, Mary Ann and her husband, Art Walker of Clermont, Fla., and Donna Rae and her husband, Kenneth Krogman of Ashton, Iowa; seven brothers and their wives, Ivan and Clare Pottebaum of Granville, Iowa, Eugene and Eny Pottebaum of Rock Valley, Howard and Doris Pottebaum, Tony and Jan Pottebaum, and Orville and Mary Ann Pottebaum, all of Alton, Arlin and Marlene Pottebaum of Hospers, and Ike and Carol Pottebaum of Le Mars, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Barbara.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Block, Dave O'Kane, Tom Pottebaum, Steve Robinet, Rich Schnurr and Glen Schueller.
Wesley C. Kindwall
ALTA, Iowa - Wesley Carroll Kindwall, 89, of Alta died Friday at Cherokee Villa in Cherokee, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. Burial will be in Scandinavian Cemetery in Alta. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Barker Funeral Home in Alta.
Harold Heuer
ROCK VALLEY, Iowa - Harold Heuer, 78, of Rock Valley died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church in rural Sioux Center, Iowa, with the Rev. Ernie Caltvedt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
Mr. Heuer was born Jan. 26, 1919, in Eagle Township near Hawarden, Iowa, the son of John and Louise (Miller) Heuer. He attended country school and graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1937.
He married Myra Liston on Aug. 30, 1942, in Sioux Center. The couple farmed near Rock Valley until 1964, continuing to live on the farm until moving into Rock Valley in October of 1991.
He was active in National Farmers Organization, doing organizational work in western Iowa and southern Minnesota counties. He later served as Iowa's district vice-president.
He was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and Lutheran Brotherhood until suffering a stroke in June of 1991.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Eloise and her husband, Kenn Hamann of Dublin, Calif., Sandra and her husband, Jim Borello of South Barrington, Ill., and Victoria Jayne of Portland, Ore.; a son and his wife, David and Sandra of Rock Valley; seven grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Clarence and Phyllis of Hawarden; two sisters, Rose Roberts of Hawarden, Viola and her husband, Dwayne Grau of Ireton, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Benton Boyer of Hawarden.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Natalie Schroeder; his parents; two brothers, Edwin and John; a sister, Lois Boyer; a brother-in-law, Densel Roberts; and a sister-in-law, Louise Heuer.
Robert E. Burger
LAKOTA, Iowa - Robert Eugene Burger, 72, of Lakota died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at Kossuth County Hospital in Algona, Iowa, after being stricken suddenly at his residence.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard, Iowa, with the Rev. Larry Doughan officiating. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, with military rites by Matzener-Estle Post 675 of the American Legion. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Garry, Roberts, Murphy, Schaaf Funeral Home in Bancroft, Iowa.
Mr. Burger was born Feb. 18, 1925, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the son of Bert and Edna (Burdell) Burger. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School.
He married Prudence Smith on Dec. 17, 1943, in Norton, Kan.
After serving in World War II, the couple made their home in Webster City, Storm Lake and Charles City, Iowa, prior to moving to Lakota in 1965.
He was employed as a meat-cutter for Fareway Inc. for 19 years. He then operated a grocery store in Lakota for five years. Later he worked as a truck driver for several years and then worked for Winnebago Co. for six years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church. He was the current commander of Matzener-Estle American Legion Post 675 of Ledyard.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Crystal and Wayne Carlson of Warsaw, Minn., and Lorna and Dana Goodell of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Cristopher, Brandon, and Joshua Carlson, and Andrew Goodell; two great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Blanch Illingworth of Ankeny, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a half brother, Lowell; and a granddaughter, Angeline.
Jack F. Jacobsen
SAC CITY, Iowa - Jack Fredrick Jacobsen, 68, of Sac City died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Oakland Cemetery in Sac City. Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Sac City, with the Rev. Karl Giese officiating. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
Mr. Jacobsen was born Oct. 25, 1929, in Hancock, Iowa, the son of Fred and Laverne (Kahl) Jacobsen. He attended country school and graduated in 1948, from Hancock High School.
He married Doneta (Camarigg) Hayworth on Nov. 4, 1966, in Sac City.
He was employed at Noble Manufacturing in Sac City until they closed. He was then employed at Gomaco Manufacturing in Ida Grove, Iowa, until retiring in 1991.
He was a member of United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and driving his brother's horses.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry of Clifton Hill, Mo., and Carroll of Alaska; a daughter and her husband, Jackie and Rick Williams of Huntsville, Mo.; three stepsons, Kevin Hayworth of Farmington, N.M., Lynn Hayworth and his wife, Linda of Cooper City, Fla., and Stan Hayworth and his wife, Michelle of Langley Air Force Base, Va.; six grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Norma of Oakland, Iowa, and Douglas and Kathy of Shelby, Iowa; and a sister, Elizabeth Bruhns of Chicago, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pauline Heidebrink
LITTLE ROCK, Iowa - Pauline Heidebrink, 88, of Little Rock died Thursday at Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, with the Rev. Brian Hellenga officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery of Little Rock. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Bolin Funeral Chapel in Little Rock.
Mary Ellen Robinson
UTE, Iowa - Mary Ellen Robinson, 70, of Lompoc, Calif., formerly of Porterville, Calif., and Ute, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997, at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Memorial services were held Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at the Evangical Free Church in Porterville, with the Rev. Mark Rathe officiating. Burial was in Porterville District Cemetery.
Mrs. Robinson was born Sept. 11, 1927, in Sioux City. At two years of age she was adopted by Wayne "Roy" and Blanche (Riddle) Cunningham. She was raised and graduated high school in Ute. She traveled west to Roundup, Mont., where she met and married William J. Robinson.
She moved to Lampoc in 1960, and was employed at Bank of America and the NCO Club at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority and was a charter member and co-president, along with her husband, of LOVARC, and was instrumental in the formation of this service agency in Lompoc.
After retiring in 1980, the couple make their home in Porterville.
She was active in the Grand Ave. Methodist Church and Evangical Free Church. She was also actice in Helping Hands of Porterville. She was envolved in assisting United Methodist Committee on Relief in sponsoring a political refugee family from Poland. The couple were also involved with the lives of persons with disabilities.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Phyllis Engelbosch of Lompoc and Cindy Bosen of Ventura, Calif.; a son, William P. Robinson of Los Osos, Calif.; a brother, Walton A. Cunningham of Billings, Mont.; three grandchildren, Kristin Heberling, Kimberly Reid, and David Calahan; and a great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
