Todd W. Call
StaffSgt. Todd W. Call, 34, of Osan Air Force Base near Seoul, South Korea, died unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, in South Korea.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Dr. John Meyer, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, and the Rev. Dr. Steven Pohlman, chaplain at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by airmen from Offutt Air Force Base. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
StaffSgt. Call was born Feb. 24, 1963, in Sioux City, the son of the Rev. Dr. Allen D. and Sandra L. (Sager) Call.
He had lived in Harcourt, Iowa, before moving to Delaware, Ohio. He started school in Marshalltown, Iowa, and finished elementary school in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated from North Central High School in Manly, Iowa, in 1981. He attended North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa, then entered the U.S. Air Force in 1982.
He married Robin Gordon on Nov. 14, 1987, in Jefferson, Iowa. He was stationed at SAC Air Force Base in Omaha, Neb., Panama, Germany and Vandenburg Air Force Base in California prior to being stationed in South Korea.
He enjoyed baseball and golf. He was active in Special Olympics and a member of the Gun Club.
Survivors include his wife of Sioux City; a daughter, Corteney of Sioux City; his parents of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Teresa and Todd Mathers of Clear Lake, Iowa; his paternal grandmother, Glee Call of Broken Bow, Neb.; and his parents-in-law, Carl and Arlen Gordon of Hegerstown, Md.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Everett and Bonnie Sager and his paternal grandfather, Cleon Call.
Kenneth E. Raynor
Kenneth E. Raynor, 72, of Sioux City died of a stroke and heart failure Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Terry Tomlinson, pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Raynor was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Sioux City, the son of Edward and Ruth (Clark) Raynor. He was raised by his grandmother. He graduated from high school and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was employed at the Carousel, St. Joseph and St. Vincent Hospitals, The Ramp Company, Swift and Company and the city of South Sioux City and owned and operated his own taxi.
His first wife, Jean, died in 1977. He married Ila A. Raub on Dec. 28, 1978, in Dakota City.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Mike and Jennifer and Ronald and Pat, all of Dakota City; two stepsons, John Gibson and his wife, Teresa, and Tony Gibson, all of Idaho; two daughters, Mary and her husband, Gary Lang, of Omaha; two stepdaughters, Sue Gibson of Kansas and Chris and her husband, Bryan Tranmer, of South Sioux City; a sister, Betty Fillipi of Champaign, Ill.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Benjamin W. Bastian, 86, of Sioux City died Monday; Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Ethel M. Strozdas, 93, of Clinton, Okla., formerly of Sioux City, died Monday; Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

GRANVILLE, Iowa - Sister Elise (Agnes) Arnts, O.S.F., 70, of Granville died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at Orange City Hospital in Orange City, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday, with a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Mount St. Francis Chapel in Dubuque, Iowa, with the Rev. Harold Drexler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Siegert and Didesch Colonial Funeral Chapel of Dubuque is in charge of the arrangements.
Sister Elise was born Sept. 20, 1927, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard and Zena (Lansink) Arnts. She was raised in the Alta and Schaller, Iowa, area and graduated from Alta Community High School in 1945.
She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on Aug. 25, 1949, and made her final profession of vow on Aug. 12, 1955. She completed her bachlor of arts degree at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City in 1962. She taught at St. Mary's in Dubuque, Larchwood, Hospers, Alta Vista, Iowa, St. Mary's in Waterloo, Iowa, St. Joseph in Bode, Iowa, and was presently at Spalding High School in Granville.
Survivors include two sisters and their husbands, Mary and Mike Rath of Weslaco, Texas, and Josephine and Vincent Goeser of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two brothers, Joseph Arnts and his wife, Eileen, of Storm Lake and John Arnts of Clarence, Mo.; and a brother-in-law, Harold Ness of Rembrandt, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Ness; and a brother, Francis in infancy.
Memorials in her name may be directed to the Sisters of St. Francis at Mount St. Francis or the Spalding Catholic School.

KINGSLEY, Iowa - Avis M. Campbell, 85, of Kingsley died Tuesday at Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

SHELDON, Iowa - Bert Solsma, 83, of Sheldon died Monday at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.

Benjamin W. Bastian
Benjamin W. Bastian, 86, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trimble Methodist Church, with the Rev. Stephanie Raphael-Nakos officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Mr. Bastian was born Aug. 15, 1911, in Chicago, Ill., the son of W.H. and Ida Mae (Wilocx) Bastian.
He married Lois Leitner on Nov. 3, 1933, in Hawarden, Iowa. He served 10 years in the U.S. Navy, including four years during World War II and six years aboard the USS West Virginia.
He was a member of Trimble Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge Landmark 103 and the American Legion Post 64.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters and their husbands, Lola Marie and Don Taft of Knoxville, Iowa, Benita Rae and Roger Leff of Sioux City and Frances Dee and Vernon Torgerson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Kraig and Kevin Leff, Randy and Rick Huls, Brad Jalas, Ronn Poole, Mark Low and Chris McBee.
Ethel M. Strozdas
Ethel M. Strozdas, of Clinton, Okla, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, in Clinton.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City, with the Rev. Paul-Louis Arts, administrator of St. Casmir's Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. said by the Rosary Society, at the Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.
Mrs. Strozdas was born Dec. 27, 1903, in Randolph, Neb., the daughter of Jacob "Ed" and Hattie L. (Harmon) Blackmore. She was raised in Randolph. She came to Sioux City in the early 1920s.
She married Anthony Vincent Strozdas in the early 1920s. He died Dec. 28, 1974, in Sioux City. The couple lived in Portland, Ore. from 1942 to 1946. They then returned to Sioux City. She moved to Clinton in 1991. She was a homemaker and was employed with Cusack-Cascade Laundry in Sioux City.
She was a former member of St. Casmir's Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.
Survivors include her grandson, Michael C. Garthright Sr. of Clinton; four great-grandchildren, Michele Kay, Michael C. Jr. and Marci R. Garthright and Marti G. Parker; two great-great-grandchildren; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Craig Leo Strozdas; a brother, Myrl Blackmore; and a sister, Rose Blackmore-Munhofen.

BERESFORD, S.D. - J. Duward "Dewy" Bogard, 95, of Beresford died Wednesday at the McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Dalesburg Lutheran Church in rural Vermillion, S.D. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery of rural Centerville, S.D. Avis M. Campbell
KINGSLEY, Iowa - Avis M. Campbell, 85, of Kingsley died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Kingsley, with Darla Rock officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the fmaily present from 7 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 8 p.m., at the Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.
Mrs. Campbell was born Feb. 9, 1912, in Clark, S.D., the daughter of Henry and Estella (Davis) Grubb. She was raised in the Kingsley area and graduated from Kingsley High School in 1929.
She married Haswell Campbell on Oct. 29 1933, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple farmed near Kingsley until 1950, when they moved into Kingsley. She was employed at Joe Aker's Cafe until purchasing it in the mid 1960s. She retired from Campbell's Cafe in 1973. She then worked at Colonial Manor Nursing Home and Clay's Drive-Inn, both in Kingsley, as a cook for three years. He died Dec. 20, 1981.
She was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church, a past president of the Rebekha Lodge, past president of Kingsley Historical Society and the Senior Citizens. She was a cancer survivor.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Jerry and Shirley of Pierson, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Karen and Jerry Ray of Largo, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands, Lois and August Kowalski of Sioux City and Nola and Harold Heeney of South Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Arlo and Audrey Grubb of Kingsley; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lowell and Arvin Grubb; a sister, Nona Odeker; and a grandson, Russell Campbell.

BERESFORD, S.D. - Connie M. Forster, 48, of Bullhead City, Ariz., formerly of Beresford and Meckling, S.D., died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at the Arizona Regional Medical Center in Bullhead City.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Beresford. Wass Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

SHELDON, Iowa - Eleanor A. Hector, 69, of Sheldon died Tuesday at the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Lola L. Hindman
DANBURY, Iowa - Lola L. Hindman, 71, of Gowrie, Iowa, formerly of Danbury.
Services were held Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, at United Methodist Church in Gowrie, the Rev. Gary Bird officiated. Burial was in Liston Township Cemetery at Danbury.
Mrs. Hindman was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Danbury, the daughter of Robert and Bernetta (Bubb) Diment. She graduated from high school in Sergeant Bluff and from the St. Vincent College of Medicine in Sioux City with a registered nursing degree in 1947. She moved to Dayton, Iowa in 1960.
She was a member of Gowrie United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Connie Johnson of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Susanne Hindman of Harcourt, Iowa and Jean Hindman of Decatur, Ala.; three sons, Patrick and Kelly, both of Fort Dodge and Richard of Dayton; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Merle Diment of Des Moines; and three sisters, Aleva Earnest of Paullina, Iowa, Goldie Hink of Des Moines and Joyce Miller of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Thomas; a sister, Margie; and four brothers, Benjamin, Troy, Robert and Russel.

CHEROKEE, Iowa - Mitchell M. Johnson, 69, of Cherokee died Tuesday at his residence.

CROFTON, Neb. - Dorothy (Hoyt) Stimson Kirkpatrick, 78, of Cullman, Ala., formerly of Crofton, died Wednesday at the Cullman Medical Center.

CROFTON, Neb. - Joseph Frank Kremer, 77, of Crofton died Wednesday at the Pierce Manor in Pierce, Neb.

IDA GROVE, Iowa - Janet L. Lansink, 59, of Ida Grove died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove, with the Rev. Gerald M. Fisch officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Lansink was born Nov. 20, 1938, in Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Alice (Hamblen) Yankey. She attended country school in Westside Township 8 and graduated from Areadia, Westside and Vail High School in 1957. She was employed as a dental assistant with Dr. Harold E. Deur, DDS in Carroll, Iowa.
She married Richard Lansink on Sept. 19, 1959, in Carroll. The couple farmed near Odebolt and then near Ida Grove. She was employed in the Ida Grove High School lunch program from 1983 to 1996.
She attended Vail Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Altar Society, Pork Producers and 4-H. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and reading.
Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, John and Linda of Ocheyedan, Iowa; three daughters, Elaine Lansink of Aurora, Colo., Donna and her husband George Schmidt of Royal, Iowa and JoLynn and her husband Peter Madsen of Ida Grove; six grandchildren, Trinnity, Megan and Benjamin Lansink, Andrew and Crystal Schmidt and Natasha Madsen; a sister and her husband, Ruth and Royce Noelck of Vail; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Roger and Marie Mohr of Vail.
A memorial fund has been established.
Geraldine S. Logan
WINNEBAGO, Neb. - Geraldine S. Logan, 77, of Winnebago died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at the Winnebago PHS Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Winnebago Tribal Mortuary, with Mr. Warner Earth officiating. Burial will be in Winnebago Indian Cemetery.
Mrs. Logan was born Jan. 2, 1920, in Winnebago, the daughter of George and Maggie (Hannah) Smith. She attended school at Winnebago Public School. She was a life long resident of Winnebago and Sioux City.
Survivors include two sons, Ed Jr. of Winnebago and Herman of Milwaukee, Wis.; three daughters and their husbands, MaryAnn and Pat Hulit of Walthill, Neb., Betty and Warner Earth and Kay and Anthony Earth, all of Winnebago; three sisters, Anna Sun and Lucy Lonewolf, both of Winnebago and Deneva Delora of San Bernadino, Calif.; a brother, Gustave Smith of Winnebago; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Johnnie, Waukon and Delbert Smith.
Iva A. Mackey
BANCROFT, Neb. - Iva A. Mackey, 84, of Bancroft died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at the Colonial Manor in Beemer, Neb.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bancroft, with the Rev. Paul Krentz officiating. Burial will be in Bancroft City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender, Neb. and from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Bancroft.
Mrs. Mackey was born Jan. 15, 1913, in Pender, the daughter of James and Lois (Guiker) Cook. She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian faith.
She married Oscar Mackey on March 26, 1929, in Sioux City. The couple farmed near Bancroft until retiring in 1974, and moved into Bancroft. He died Feb. 10, 1995.
She was a member of the Cheerio Club, the Altar Guild, the Ladies Aid and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards.
Survivors include a daughter, Ima Jean Tonjes of Bancroft; two sons and their wives, Leland and Lois of Bancroft and Ronald and Leeta of Lincoln, Neb.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Norman and a son-in-law, Myron Tonjes.

STORM LAKE, Iowa - Clara J. Moe, 85, formerly of Storm Lake died Thursday at the Western Home in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

EMERSON, Neb. - Walter Pedersen, 92, of Emerson died Tuesday at the Heritage of Emerson.

Roman J. Plendl
LE MARS, Iowa - Roman J. Plendl, 78, of Le Mars died suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at his residence from an apparent heart attack.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Richard Ries officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery-Neptune at rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary said by the Altar Society at 4 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mr. Plendl was born March 17, 1919, in Union Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Frank and Susan (Rodenbour) Plendl. He was raised near Le Mars and attended Union Consolidated Schools.
He married Isabelle Meis on April 17, 1945, in Le Mars. The couple farmed for many years in Stanton Township.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter-in-law, Susan Plendl of rural Le Mars; two grandsons, Adam and Ben Plendl; a brother and his wife, John and Shirley of Le Mars; a sister and her husband, Christine and Art Meis of Le Mars; and a sister-in-law, Rita Plendl of Hopkins, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry; and a brother, Virgil.
Vernon Rickers
WESTSIDE, Iowa - Vernon Rickers, 73, of Westside died Wednesday at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa.

Harold A. Rickett
PONCA, Neb. - Harold Augusta Rickett, 85, of Ponca died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at the Elms Health Care Center in Ponca.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Ponca, with the Rev. Richard Hinkle officiating. Burial will be in Ponca City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca.
Mr. Rickett was born Aug. 8, 1912, in rural Ponca, the son of Oscar and Rhoda (Taylor) Rickett. He attended Sunnyside School.
He married Gayl Conrad on Feb. 29, 1936, in Ponca. He farmed and was a hog producer in the Ponca area, retiring in 1980. In 1983, the couple moved into Ponca.
He was a member of several boards.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Robert and Barbara; three grandchildren, Martin and Conwin Rickett and Gina Daughtery; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Lola Rahn of Ponca; and two brothers, Lawrence and his wife Delva and Delbert, all of South Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Aubrey.
Pallbearers will be Curtis and Roger Armstrong, Arthur and Dean Rickett, and Darrel and Carrol Rahn.
Evelyn M. Schug
HOLSTEIN, Iowa - Evelyn "Tootie" M. Schug, 71, of Lake San Marcos, Calif., formerly of Holstein, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at the Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, Calif., following a sudden illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Holstein, with the Rev. Curtis Benson officiating. Burial will be in Holstein City Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.
Mrs. Schug was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Holstein, the daughter of Emil and Mary Katherine (Staudermeier) Wiese. She graduated from Holstein High School and married Delbert "Del" Schug in October 1948. She had lived in San Diego County, Calif., for 44 years.
She was employed as a bank teller with Oceanside Federal in 1953. She was elected corporate secretary in 1961 and vice-president in 1973. She retired in 1983. She continued her education through graduate studies at the Institute for Financial Education.
She was a former member of the American Business Women's Association. She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her husband; a brother and his wife, Marvin "Bud" and Mary Wiese of Holstein; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society in San Diego, Calif.

AKRON, Iowa - Floyd D. Wilcox, 85, of Akron died Wednesday at the Akron Care Center following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Akron. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Vistation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
