Raymond E. Davis
Raymond E. Davis, 76, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 760. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. conducted by the Borth Riverside Masonic Lodge 662, at Berkemier Funeral Home.
Mr. Davis was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Rodney, Iowa. The family moved to Sioux City when he was 15 years old. He attended Rodney Elementary School and Central High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He married Bonnie Johns on Feb. 26, 1940, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple made their home in Sioux City. He was employed as a journeyman electrician with IBEW Local 231, retiring in 1981. She died Sept. 16, 1992.
He was a charter member of the North Riverside Masonic Lodge 662 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite, the IBEW Local 231, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 760 and the Disabled American Veteran Chapter 54. He was an amateur radio operator.
Survivors include two daughters and their wives, Karen and Burt Linscott of Norfolk, Neb. and Kay and William Keairns of Sioux City; a sister, Maxine Adams of Irvine, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Atwood and Alice Johns, both of Sioux City; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Larry and Claire Atwood, Greg, Kenny and Marvin Johns and James Coleman.
Lillian H. Ehrp
Lillian Helen Ehrp, 97, of Sioux City, formerly of Holstein, Iowa, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at the Indian Hills Care Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen, Iowa, with the Rev. Robert L. Eggers officiating. Burial will be in Holstein City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Moeller Funeral Home of Remsen is in charge of the arrangements.
Miss Ehrp was born Sept. 11, 1900, in Holstein, the daughter of Nicholas and Helena (Smith) Ehrp. She attended school in Holstein. She moved to Sioux City with her mother in 1914. She was employed as a receptionist at the Jackson Hotel in Sioux City for many years.
Survivors inlcude a nephew, Verdine Ehrp of Remsen; three nieces, Fanchon Aly and Helen Aeck, both of Enterprise, Ala. and Theone Bremer of Ida Grove, Iowa; a special friend, Merle Lukecart of Sioux City; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Klemma and Betty Hanscater; two brothers, Claus and a brother in infancy; and a nephew.
Patricia A. Glaser
Patricia A. "Pat" Glaser, 67, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert J. Schimmer officiating. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at Omaha, Neb. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., with the family present and a parish vigil service at 6:45 p.m., at the Larkin Northside Funeral Home.
Mrs. Glaser was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Sioux City, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Mc Cann) Ward. She graduated from Central High School in 1948. She lived in Omaha for 35 years.
She married Mike Glaser. She was employed as a clerical worker for Goodyear Tire Company for 12 years. She then worked for the Social Services of Nebraska. She retired in 1992, and returned to Sioux City.
She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Omaha and St. Joseph Church in Sioux City.
Survivors include a brother, James Ward of Sioux City; three sisters, Margaret Huth, Marian Tomasic and Dorothy Baker, all of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Elizabeth Heffner; two brothers, Francis and Phillip Ward; and three sisters, Betty Buchanan, Helen Hanson and Kate Grey.
Pallbearers will be Terry, Tim and Tom Baker and Roy Nichols.
Charlotte R. King
Charlotte R. (Jenkins) King, 82, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at the Countryside Retirement Center following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. William H. Steward, of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. King was born Feb. 24, 1915, in Ticonic, Iowa, and attended country school in Monona County.
She married Allen King on Feb. 28, 1934, in South Sioux City. He died Oct. 1, 1964. She lived in Hornick, Iowa and Fremont, Neb. briefly before moving to Sioux City in 1937. She was employed with the Battery Factory, then Safeway and National Food Stores.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge, the Eagles and the Ladies Auxilary of the Abu Bekr Shrine. She enjoyed dancing and playing bingo.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Claudette and Robert Culbertson of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Gary A. and Sharon of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Craig, Clay and Cathy Culbertson, Jill Murphy, Laura Pottebaum and Linda Stadtlander; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ema McCall of Onawa, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella, Jewel and Ruth; and two brothers, Jesse and William.
Pallbearers will be Craig and Clay Culbertson, Blake Stadtlander, Daniel Pottebaum, Michael Murphy and Jan Burkhart.
Harry H. Martin
Harry H. Martin, 82, of Sioux City died Sunday at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Berkemier Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 6 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church.
Joseph H. Meinen
Joseph H. Meinen, 75, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel M. Greveing officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the Larkin Morningisde Funeral Home.
Mr. Meinen was born March 26, 1922, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Henry A. and Mary A. (Peppersack) Meinen. He gradauted from St. Joseph High School in Le Mars. He moved to Sioux City around 1942. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
He married Madonna Cantin on Nov. 26, 1946, in Sioux City. He was employed as a maintenance worker with Armour and Company until its closing. He then worked for Briar Cliff College, St. Joseph Hospital and Marian Health Center, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the church's Men's Club.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Larry and Gail of Sioux City and Kirk and Brenda of Dittmer, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Jeff, Marie, Michael, Matthew and Amanda Meinen.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Swanson; and three brothers, Vincent, Tony and Lawrence.
Pallbearers will be Jeff, Matthew, Marie and Amanda Meinen.
Harold R. Olsen
Harold R. "Olie" Olsen, 76, of South Sioux City died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Ponca, Neb. Burial will be in Ponca City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca.
Ernest F. Plendl
Ernest Francis "Jay" Plendl, 66, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Arnold E. Vehling, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Monahan Post 64. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Plendl was born Jan. 19, 1931, in Sioux City, the son of Anton W. and Doris C. (Leonard) Plendl. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He married Joanne E. Mahar on Dec. 27, 1956, in Granville, Iowa. He married Evelyn M. Groth on July 13, 1977, in Elk Point, S.D. He was employed with Sioux Tools from 1966, until his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of the International Association of Machinists Siouxland Lodge 1426.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Moab, Utah; four sons, Richard and his wife Sue and Kevin, all of Sioux City, David of Omaha, Neb. and Eric of Milwaukee, Wis.; a daughter, Lynn Plendl of Watertown, S.D.; a brother and his wife, Walter and Barbara of Sioux City; two sisters and their husbands, Bonnie and Leonard Janke of Pender, Neb. and Mary Katherine and Terry Boyes of Moab, Utah; three stepsons, Ray Groth of Fairbault, Minn., Andrew and his wife Kathleen Groth and Steven Groth, all of Sioux City; two stepdaughters, Beverly and her husband Ed Nelson of Phoenix, Ariz. and Laura Royark of Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Patricia Ann in infancy.
Pallbearers will be Chad, Dwight and Keith Plendl, Gary Stough, Rich Eveland and Tony Seubert.
Florence M. Trisler
Florence M. Trisler, 93, of South Sioux City died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.
Marvin Kuester, 67, of Sioux City died Sunday; Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.
Eileen M. Wadhams, 80, of Sioux City died Sunday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Wayne L. Bilsland
SHELDON, Iowa - Wayne Le Roy Bilsland, 89, of Sheldon died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Sheldon, with Dr. Bruce Ursin officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at the Sheldon Funeral Service.
Mr. Bilsland was born April 9, 1908, in Sheldon, the son of William H. and Lulu (Appleton) Bilsland. He gradauted from Sheldon High School.
He married Gladys Ward on Feb. 4, 1932. The couple lived in Sheldon, where he was employed with Arnold Motor Supply. They moved to Matlock, Iowa, where they opened J.I. Case Dealership. They later moved the business to Sheldon, where the owned and operated the Bilsland Implement and Motor Dealership. He retired in 1976.
He was a member of United Methodist Church, the Missletoe Masonic Lodge in Sheldon, the Broken Column Masonic Lodge 331 of Sibley, Iowa, Lodge Master, the Abu Bekr Shrine of Sioux City and the Order of the Eastern Star of Sheldon and Sibley.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Keith of Sheldon and Roger and his wife Dawana of Peoria, Ill.; two daughters and their husbands, Margie and Bill Jensen of Brookings, S.D. and Barbara and Harlan Hanson of Orlando, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Verlie Cleveland
WAYNE, Neb. - Verlie Cleveland, 88, of Wayne died Saturday at the Wayne Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Concordia Lutheran Church in Concord, Neb. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Wayne. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Schumacher Funeral Home in Wayne.
Alvin De Boer
SIBLEY, Iowa - Alvin De Boer, 70, of Sibley died Saturday at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Church in George, Iowa. Burial will be in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.
Sophia De Graaf
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Sophia "Sophie" De Graaf, 90, of Orange City died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Donald De Glopper officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, prior to the service. There will be a prayer service at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will be after 3:30 p.m. today, with the family present from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. De Graaf was born June 11, 1907, in rural Orange City, the daughter of Arie and Jennie (Vander Wilt) Van Wyk.
She married Marion De Graaf in January 1931. Their marriage ended in 1946. She was employed as an operator at the telephone company in Orange City for many years and later as a clerk at the Agriculture Soil Conservation Service. She entered the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City several years ago and transferred to the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa in July 1997.
She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, where she was active in circle, guild and Bible studies. She enjoyed the senior citizen activities and bowling.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Faye and Gerald Dunn of Marcus and Shirley and Donald Ward Sr. of Santa Rosa, Calif.; six grandchildren, Jeralyn Volkert, James Dunn, Jana Welp, Denise, Donald Jr. and David Ward; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Van Wyk of Sheldon, Iowa and Gilbert Van Wyk of Bellflower, Calif.; and two sisters, Irene Vellinga and Leola Te Grotenhuis, both of Orange City.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, David Dunn; a sister, Greta Veld; two brothers, her twin Mitchell Van Wyk and Kenneth Van Wyk; and twin brother and sister in infancy.

PRIMGHAR, Iowa - Charley A. Egdorf, 101, of Primghar died Saturday at the Primghar Care Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Church in Primghar. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Primghar.
Herman Holwerda
DOON, Iowa - Herman Holwerda, 76, of Doon died of cancer Sunday at the Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Reformed Church in Doon. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
Paul R. Hoxsie
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Paul R. Hoxsie, 74, of Cherokee died Saturday at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m., at First Church of Christ in Cherkoee. Burial will be in Cherokee Memory Gardens, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars L.A. Wescott Post 2253. There will be no visitation. Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee is in charge of the arrangements.
Karen M. Jepsen
IDA GROVE, Iowa - Karen Marie Jepsen, 53, of Carroll, Iowa, formerly of Ida Grove, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, with the Rev. John Schauer and the Rev. Andrew Currao officiating. Burial will be in Cushing Cemetery at Cushing, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Chirstensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Jepsen was born Oct. 4, 1944, in Cushing, the daughter of Harlan H. and Wilma G. (Laing) Fredrichsen. She graduated from Cushing High School in 1962, as class valedictorian.
She married Roger R. "Butch" Jepsen on April 23, 1967, in Cushing. She was employed as a bookkeeper with Feld Fire Equipment of Carroll and previously with the Schleswig schools, Farmers State Bank of Schleswig, First Federal Savings Bank in Ida Grove and as a bookkeeper with GOMACO in Ida Grove for several years.
She was active in Cub Scouts, the Ida Grove Music Boosters, a founder of the Ida Grove After Prom Committee and served as treasurer for St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crafts, dancing and roller skating.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Todd Roger of Alton, Iowa, Troy Allan of Wayne, Neb. and Travis Dean of Carroll; her mother of Cushing; a brother and his wife, Steve and Vanessa Fredrichsen of Cushing; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Harlan Dean Fredrichsen.
A memorial fund has been established.
Arlo L. Johnson
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Arlo L. "Ole" Johnson, 71, of Cherokee died Sunday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. following a brief illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m., at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars L.A. Wescott Post 2253. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

SCHLESWIG, Iowa - Malinda Koch, 93, of Schleswig died Saturday at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Grant Township. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

GEORGE, Iowa - Vera Thoelke, 76, of George died Sunday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bolin Funeral Home in George. Burial will be in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
