Phyllis Anne Hunt
Phyllis Anne Hunt, 70, of Ashland, Ore., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at her residence.
Memorial Mass will be at 8 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland, with the Rev. Anthony Rosevear officiating. The Simonsen Funeral Home of Ashland is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Hunt was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Sioux City, the daughter of Beatrice and Forrest Ullyot.
She taught at East High School from 1963 to 1969. She moved to Auburn, Wash., in 1969, and taught at Auburn High School. In 1982, she returned to Sioux City and worked as an executive assistant for the Woodbury Medical Society. She retired and moved to Ashland in 1997.
She was a member of the American Association of Medical Society Executives, Phi Beta Cappa Sorority and the National Auxiliary to the Scabbard and Blade.
Survivors include her companion, Jim Mathers of Ashland; a daughter, Mary Anne Crandall of Ashland; and two grandchildren, Melissa Hutchison and Jonathan Elder.

Marvin O. Kuester
Marvin O. Kuester, 67, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at a local hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m, at the funeral home.
Mr. Kuester was born June 12, 1930, in Charter Oak, Iowa, the son of Martin and Pauline (Klaus) Kuester. He was educated in the public school system and moved to Sioux City as a teen-ager.
He married Dorothy A. Groves on April 30, 1954.
He was employed at Sioux City Brick & Tile from 1954 to 1967 and at Raskin Packing from 1967 to 1980. He worked for John Morrell from 1980 until retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the U.F.C.W. Local 1142 and served in the Iowa National Guard 133 Infantry for many years.
He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and gardener.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters and their husbands, Debra and Daniel Boisen, Terri and David Owings, Rhonda and Mickey Howlay and Jody and Brad Christiansen, all of Sioux City; five sons, Myron and his fiance, Kristi Pearson, Jeff and his wife, Kelly, Michael and his wife, Stephanie, and Kevin, all of Sioux City, and David and Terri Tighe of McCook Lake, S.D.; three brothers, Arthur and his wife, Darlene, of Sioux City, Paul and his wife, Linda, of Sergeant Bluff, and Raymond of California; a sister and her husband, Sandra and Donald Mitchell of Seattle, Wash.; and 23 grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brad Christiansen, David Owings, Dan Boisen, Mickey Howlay and Charles and Clinton Groves.
Raymond E. Davis
Raymond E. Davis, 76, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 760. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. conducted by the North Riverside Masonic Lodge 662, at the Berkemier Funeral Home.
Mr. Davis was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Rodney, Iowa. The family moved to Sioux City when he was 15 years old. He attended Rodney Elementary School and Central High School.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He married Bonnie Johns on Feb. 26, 1940, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple made their home in Sioux City. She died Sept. 16, 1992.
He was employed as a journeyman electrician with IBEW Local 231, retiring in 1981.
He was a charter member of North Riverside Masonic Lodge 662 A.F.&A.M., the Scottish Rite, the IBEW Local 231, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 760, and the Disabled American Veteran Chapter 54.
He was an amateur radio operator.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Karen and Burt Linscott of Norfolk, Neb., and Kay and William Keairns of Sioux City; a sister, Maxine Adams of Irvine, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Atwood and Alice Johns, both of Sioux City; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three nephews; and two nieces.
Pallbearers will be Larry and Claire Atwood, Greg, Kenny and Marvin Johns and James Coleman.
Levern L. Kent
Levern L. Kent, 85, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Graf, pastor of Morningside Presbyterian Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Laurel Cemetery in Laurel, Neb. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Kent was born Aug. 27, 1912, in Pierce, Neb., the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Mattson) Spike. She was raised on a farm in the Laurel area.
She married Roy I. Kent on Aug. 27, 1930, in Sioux City. The couple came to Sioux City in the spring of 1938. He died Dec. 14, 1997, in Sioux City.
She worked for several years for Western States Manufacturing Co.
Mrs. Kent was of Presbyterian faith.
She enjoyed dancing, playing cards and gardening.
Survivors include a son and his wife, LeRoy and Coni Kent of Sioux City; three daughters, Lorraine and her husband, Donald Windle, Shirley and Marvin Carrell and Rita Kobes, all of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers, one in infancy.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Vera Marie Wood
Vera Marie Wood, 71, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at a local hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Elder Dennis Callender, of Jehovah's Witnesses North Congregation, officiating. Burial will be in Floyd Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Wood was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Sioux City, the daughter of Edmond J. Jessie M. (Sigland) Tidd.
She married Neiland E. Wood on Feb. 19, 1950, in Elk Point, S.D.
She was employed with Johnson Biscuit and later with Cudahays Packing Co. She was also employed with the Nickle Plate Restaurant and the Vita Seal Restaurant for several years.
She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses North Congregation and a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters and their husbands, Rita and Rick Lalumendre of South Sioux City and Jessie and Tony Buss, and Burnie and Jeff Petersen, all of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Nicole and Cortney Lalumendre, Hollie and Kristine Petersen and Joseph and Jackie Rodriquez.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Shari Duncan; a sister, Della Ostrich; and three brothers.
Pallbearers will be Trivis Gill, Eric Waldee, Ray Boyle, David Vanderlinden, Tim Schmadeke and Rick Inlay.
Vera Hill
Vera Busser Baker Hill, 78, of Sioux City died Monday at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Eileen Marie Wadhams
Eileen Marie Wadhams, 80, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home following an extended illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Geelan and the Rev. LeRoy Seuntjens officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Wadhams was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Jefferson, S.D., the daughter of Richard and Blanche (Collins) Bernard. She was raised in Jefferson, S.D.
She married Dwight Stone Wadhams on Oct. 31, 1938, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple made Sioux City their home. He died March 1, 1980, in Sioux City.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, Greg Wadhams of Sioux City; two daughters, Gail and her husband, Fred Shaw, of Stockbridge, Mass., and Judith Anderson of Basking Ridge, N.J.; a brother and his wife, Col. Duane and Betty Bernard of Sioux City; three sisters, Ardyce Satter of Sioux City, Betty McInerney of Elk Point, S.D., and Annette and her husband, Alfred Allard, of Jefferson; four granddaughters, Kristin, Karolyn, Gregory and Amy; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Cherin, Mike, Steve and Jim Allard, Ted McInerney, Richard Satter and Larry Quinlain.

Former legislator Muhlbauer dies

MANILLA, Iowa - Louis J. "Louie" Muhlbauer, 68, a former legislator in the Iowa House of Representatives, died unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at his residence.
Services were held Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Manilla. The Ohde Funeral Home of Manning handled arrangements.
Mr. Muhlbauer was born June 26, 1929, near Halbur, Iowa, the son of Charles and Mary (Stoberl) Muhlbauer. He graduated from Manning High School in 1947 and attended Westmar College for a year. He earned his bachelor of science degree from Iowa State University in 1950.
He married Phyllis Kerkhoff on June 12, 1950, in Templeton, Iowa.
He taught vocational agriculture for three years at Manning High School and r taught government and industrial arts for one year at Viola Township School. For three years, he was the department poultry supervisor at Priebe & Sons Hatchery. He was a livestock and crop farmer for 28 years in the Audubon, Iowa, and Manning area.
Mr. Muhlbauer served as a Crawford County supervisor for four years. In 1982, he was elected to his first term as state representative in the Iowa House. He continued to serve this office through 1992. While in office he rose to the rank of assistant majority leader.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish of Manilla, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus-Council 2074, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce and Polka Klub of Iowa and was vice president of the Manilla Area Historical Association.
He took great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed training horses.
Survivors include his wife; six sons and their wives, Daryl and Karen of Atlantic, Iowa, Gary and Tammy, Daniel and Patti and Jeffrey and Marie, all of Manilla, Michael and Theresa of Lewis, Iowa, and Thomas and Lisa of Griswold, Iowa; three daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Russell Baker of LaVista, Neb., Joyce and Garry Price of Mifflintown, Penn., and Donna and Thomas Rohe of Le Mars, Iowa; 38 grandchildren; and two sisters and their husbands, Marie and Victor Wendl of Carroll, Iowa, and Rose Anne and Wes Nulle of Manning.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Samuel Louis Muhlbauer, in infancy; six brothers, Charles Jr., Henry, Joseph, in infancy, Joseph, Anthony, and William "Bill" Muhlbauer; and a sister, Sophia Kuhse.
Berniece M. McKinley
NEWCASTLE, Neb. - Berniece M. McKinley, 86, of Newcastle died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Congregational United Church of Christ in Newcastle. Burial will be in Newcastle City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, Neb.
Mrs. McKinley was born Nov. 30, 1911, in Newcastle, the daughter of John and Carrie (German) Parr. She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1929.
She taught school for one year and worked in Sioux City for a short time.
She married Warren McKinley on Dec. 30, 1933, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple moved to Hartington, Neb., and farmed for a few years. They then moved to the McKinley family farm in Newcastle and continued to farm until retirement.
They spent their retirement years between Newcastle and Florence, Ariz. He died Aug. 14, 1984.
Mrs. McKinley obtained her associate degree at Western Arizona Community College.
She enjoyed oil painting, ceramics and meeting people.
She was a lifelong member and organist of the Congregational United Church of Christ and of the Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include a son, Mark McKinley of South Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Donald and Betty of Oregon; and four grandchildren, Shawn, Jason, Lisa and Stacey.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie. and a sister, Phyllis.
Pallbearers will be Vet Beyeler Jr., Monty Miller, Rod Lund, Lyle Calvert, Harold Ward and Earl Bridgford.
Verlie Cleveland
WAYNE, Neb. - Verlie Cleveland, 88, of Wayne died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at Wayne Care Center in Wayne
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Concordia Lutheran Church in Concord, Neb., with the Rev. Duane Marburger officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne, Neb. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Schumacher Funeral Home in Wayne.
Mrs. Cleveland was born Jan. 29, 1909, in rural Dixon, Neb., the daughter of Clarence and Annie (Nelson) Tuttle. She was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church. She attended school in Concord.
She married Justin Lyle Cleveland on Sept. 21, 1932. The couple owned a grocery store in Morningside, Iowa, through 1935. They moved to Concord where they owned and operated a implement dealership from 1952 until retiring in 1965.
She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and Horseless Carriage Club of America. She enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Gary and Patricia Cleveland of Spirit Lake, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Sharon and Jerry Wehrer of Wayne; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996.
Pallbearers will be Rod and Brad Erwin, Donovan and Keith Dowscher, Gene Fredrickson and Fred Gustin.
Kathleen Harnack
REMSEN, Iowa - Kathleen Harnack, 74, of Remsen died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with a rosary at 3 p.m. by the Christian Mothers and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Mrs. Harnack was born Jan. 18, 1923, in Le Mars, the daughter of Edward and Clarinda (Wanderscheid) Bergin, Sr. She was raised and educated near Iona, Minn.
In 1945 she moved with her sister, Lorraine, to Le Mars, where she was employed at Harkers Cafe. She moved with her parents to Remsen in 1947, where she was employed at Dunn's Cafe.
She married Milo Harnack on Jan. 23, 1960, in Remsen. The couple farmed near Remsen until fall of 1974, when they moved into Remsen.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers of Remsen, and Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Le Mars.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mark of Remsen and Roger and his wife, Pam, of Lone Tree, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Noreen and Steven Linney and Colleen and Ron Groepper, all of Lincoln, Neb.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Lorraine and Orville Jorgensen of Fulda, Minn.; and a brother and his wife, Edward and Carol Bergin Jr. of Le Mars.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Larry Arens, Paul Bergin, Mike Jorgensen, Steve Stodden, Nick Van Dam and Keith Wiebersch.
Robert R. Bolles Sr.
IDA GROVE, Iowa - Robert R. "Bob" Bolles Sr., 76, of Ida Grove died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Morningside Rehab & Care Center in Ida Grove.
There will be no visitation, the body was cremated. Private family committal services will be held at a later date. The Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove in handling arrangements.
Mr. Bolles was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Correctionville, Iowa, the son of Clyde and Amy (Russell) Bolles. He was raised and received his education in Ida Grove.
He served in the United States Army for four years.
He married Ruth Emma Gertrude Schramm on Dec. 20, 1940, in Ida Grove. She died July 21, 1975.
He worked 32 years for Godbersen-Smith Construction in Ida Grove.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove and McNamara-Moore Post 61 of the American Legion.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Robert Jr. and Reta of Holstein, Iowa, Gary and Sandi of Ida Grove and David and Shelley of Mount Ayr, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Christina Vander Aarde
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Christina Vander Aarde, 92, of Orange City died Monday at Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

PENDER, Neb. - Sylvia Krupicka, 82, of Pender, formerly of Mahnomen, Minn., died Friday at Fullerton Manor in Fullerton, Neb.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at John Huss Presbyterian Church in Thurston, Neb. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Mahnomen. The Munderloh Funeral Home of Pender is handling arrangements.

Rodney E. Hammond
LE MARS, Iowa - Rodney Earl Hammond, 64, of West Hollywood, Calif., formerly of Le Mars, died Dec. 13, 1997, at West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center after a long illness of lymphoma.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Olive Morey
ONAWA, Iowa - Olive Morey, 83, of Onawa died Saturday at an Onawa nursing home.
