Lisa Beckner-Hernandez, 28, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Seuntjens, of Holy Spirit and Marian Health Center, officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be just prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Beckner-Hernandez was born March 22, 1969, in Sioux City. She attended school in the Sioux City area.
She married Martin Hernandez on Jan. 12, 1986.
She was employed at Cold Storage in Sioux City.
Survivors include a daughter, Violet Ray Beckner; her parents, Dale and Caren Beckner of Springdale, Ark., and Carol and Lyle Schroeder of Smithland, Iowa; a brother, William "Bill" Beckner of Sioux City; two sisters, Julie Banta of Sioux City and Deanna Beckner of Smithland; a half brother, Scott Foster; a stepsister, Kimberly Willis; a stepbrother, Keith Mallett; her grandmother, Berniece Schroeder of Oto, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Tykell X. Fenceroy
Tykell Xavier Fenceroy, 12 day-old son of Makevba Fenceroy of Sioux City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Floyd Brown, pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church, officiating. There will be no visitation. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Tykell was born Dec. 18, 1997, in Sioux City.
Survivors include his mother of Sioux City; maternal grandparents, Alma and Steve Schmitt of Sioux City; paternal grandfather, Warren Fenceroy Sr. of Wilmont, Ark.; maternal great-grandmother, Lucymae Jones of Sioux City; and paternal great-grandparents, John and Garnet McClendon of Dayton, Ohio.
Pallbearers will be Jim Fenceroy and Darren Washington.
Vera Hill
Vera Baker Hill, 78, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home, with the Rev. Susan Miller, chaplain of Hospice of Siouxland, officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hill was born May 1, 1919, in Sioux City, the daughter of Henry and Edna (Taute) Busser. She attended school in Sioux City.
She married Louis Baker on Aug. 4, 1944, in Dakota City. He died Jan. 5, 1958. She married James Hill on June 5, 1964. He died July 11, 1982.
She was employed at Sioux City Battery, Wincharger Corporation, St. Vincent Hospital and Marian Health Center.
She was a former member of Glendale Baptist Church and a member of Helping Hand Mission.
Survivors include a daughter, Hazel H. Hall of Stockton, Calif.; two sons, David Baker and his wife, Diane, and Randy Baker, all of Sioux City; two brothers, Edward Gale of Sioux City and Calmer Gale of Le Mars, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry and Harley Busser and Charles Gale.
Pallbearers will be Steve Johnson, Donald Hall Jr., David Jr. and Dustin Baker and Arlon and Michael Danker.
Dorothy L. Kellogg
Dorothy L. Kellogg, 70, of Windsor, Va., formerly of South Sioux City, died Tuesday in Virginia.
Family graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Omaha Valley Cemetery at Homer, Neb. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.
Lois A. Kenkel
Lois A. Kenkel, 55, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Marvin Boes officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visit ation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.
Mrs. Kenkel was born May 14, 1942, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Ruth M. (Knudsen) Hartman. She graduated from Central High School in 1960 and Nettleton Business College in 1962.
She married Leon A. Kenkel on May 25, 1963, in Neptune, Iowa.
She was employeed at Norwest Finanical in Sioux City for 15 years.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gregory and his wife, Kathy, and Stephan, all of Sioux City; a daughter, Melissa Kenkel of Sioux City; her parents of Sioux City; and two granddaughters, Allison and Anna Kenkel.
Pallbearers will be Larry, Richard, Kent and Tod Knudsen, Paul Hartman and George Taylor.
Harry H. Martin
Harry H. Martin, 82, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Glenn Schacht officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Monahan Post 64. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Berkemier Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 6 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church.
Mr. Martin was born April 14, 1915, in Sioux City, the son of Elmer and Anne (Hannestead) Martin. He graduated from East High School in 1933.
He married Bernice Olsen on April 20, 1940. The couple made their home in Sioux City.
He served with the U.S. Army 125th Anti-Aircraft Gun Battalion as a communications specialist during World War II.
He returned to Sioux City and was employed as a salesman for Swift and Company, covering districts in the Dakotas, Montana and western Iowa. The couple moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa, where he became a journeyman electrician before returning to Sioux City. He was employed through the IBEW Local 231, retiring in 1983.
Mrs. Martin died Sept. 16, 1992.
Mr. Martin was a member of Riverside Lutheran Church and served on the boards of Riverside Lutheran and Immanuel Lutheran churches. He taught adult and confirmation education at both churches. He helped found the Neighborhood Network and was active in the Riverside Pact. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 54 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include a son and his wife, the Rev. Michael and Theresa of Laurium, Mich.; a daughter, Kristina Martin of Sioux City; nine grandchildren, Robert, Chase, Vanessa and Jonathan Kasch, Jennifer Tigrett, Aimee Salchert, Melissa Cates, Kristy Scarcia and Jessica Martin; six great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Koos of Betendorf, Iowa.
Pallbearers will be Greg Fravel, Ron Olsen, James Wiggs, Glen Houts, Sheldon "Bud" Reese and James Goede.
Joshua J. Matsushige
Joshua Joseph Matsushige, 16, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at his residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Indian Mission, with the Rev. F. David Titus officiating. Burial will be in Winnebago Cemetery at Winnebago, Neb. Traditional wake services and visitation began Tuesday, Dec. 30 and will continue until service time Friday at the church.
Joshua was born Dec. 11, 1981. He was a 10th grade student at East High School. He was employed part time for Wheel Chair Transportation.
He had been living with Rita Lingle and three foster boys, Gabriel, Jeff and Jake.
Survivors include a brother, Elden Matsushige; three sisters, Linette John of Sioux City and Leslie and Tenile Trudell of Omaha; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary, and maternal grandparents.
Pallbearers will be Lance Matsushige, Mark Humphrey, Jarvis, Eddie and Joshua Horn and Anthony John.
Gilda A. Reinbold
Gilda A. Reinbold, 83, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at her residence following a brief
illness.
Services will be at noon Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Marvin J. Boes officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. and a vigil service at 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Reinbold was born Aug. 26, 1914, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of James and Mary (Maguire) Cunningham. She gradauted from Anthon Public School in 1932, and attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa.
She taught in a country school near Anthon, Iowa for several years.
She married Edwin R. Reinbold in 1950, in Anthon. He died in 1981.
She was employed as a teller at First Trust and Savings Bank in Anthon. She had lived in Ida Grove and Kingsley, Iowa until 1956, when she moved to Sioux City. She was then employed at the cafeteria at Heelan High School and later at Firstar Bank from 1976 to 1982.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and was active in the Rosary Society.
Survivors include a son and his wife, John and Kristin Jameson of Minneapolis, Minn.; two daughters and their husbands, Mary and Larry Bunch of Hinton, Iowa, and Rita and Michael Combs of Sioux City; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Tom and Frank Cunningham, both of Anthon, and Joe Cunningham of Correctionville, Iowa; and two sisters, Catherine Bennett of San Diego, Calif. and Anna Sadler of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
Pallbearers will be John Jameson, Michael Combs, Jack Wood, Sarah Bunch, Jeremy Koetters and Kevin Combs.
Mary A. Spillane
Mary A. Spillane, 69, of South Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation will resume from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the church.
Mrs. Spillane was born April 1, 1928, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Thomas A. and Alice G. (O'Neill) Rowland.
She married John E. Spillane on Sept. 3, 1949, in Omaha. The couple moved to South Sioux City in 1954. He died Aug. 3, 1983, in Sioux City.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Spillane was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and was active in various church groups.
Survivors include three sons, John Jr. and his wife, Cindy, of South Sioux City, Tim and his wife, Jeriann, of Ponca, Neb. and Michael of Woodland Park, Colo.; a daughter and her husband, Tracy and Randy Lyman of Woodlawn Park; a brother, Thomas Rowland of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Anna Brown of Omaha; six grandchildren, Marc, Michael, Alex, Sara, Allyssa and Abby Jo; and two great-grandchildren.
M. Mendez Trujillo
Manuel Daniel Mendez Trujillo, 21, of Salinas, Calif., died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, in Salinas.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Randy Guerdet officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Mr. Mendez Trujillo was born Feb. 26, 1976, in San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico, the son of Roberto A. and Rosalba (Trujillo) Mendez. He moved with his family from Mexico to Salinas in 1986. He was a computer brake operator.
Survivors include his parents; three brothers, Roberto, Luis and Johnathan Mendez, all of Sioux City; and two sisters, Rosalba and Mayra Mendez, both of Sioux City.
Eileen Marie Wadhams
Eileen Marie Wadhams, 80, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home following an extended illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Geelan and the Rev. LeRoy Seuntjens officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Wadhams was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Jefferson, S.D., the daughter of Richard and Blanche (Collins) Bernard. She was raised in Jefferson, S.D.
She married Dwight Stone Wadhams on Oct. 31, 1938, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple made Sioux City their home. He died March 1, 1980, in Sioux City.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, Greg Wadhams of Sioux City; two daughters, Gail Shaw and her husband, Fred, of Stockbridge, Mass., and Judith Anderson of Basking Ridge, N.J.; a brother and his wife, Col. Duane and Betty Bernard of Sioux City; three sisters, Ardyce Satter of Sioux City, Betty McInerney of Elk Point, S.D., and Annette and her husband, Alfred Allard, of Jefferson; four grandchildren, Kristin, Karolyn, Gregory and Amy; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Cherin, Mike, Steve and Jim Allard, Ted McInerney, Richard Satter and Larry Quinlain.

Vera Marie Wood
Vera Marie Wood, 71, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at a local hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Elder Dennis Callender, of Jehovah's Witnesses North Congregation, officiating. Burial will be in Floyd Cemetery.
Mrs. Wood was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Sioux City, the daughter of Edmond J. and Jessie M. (Sluyter) Tidd.
She married Neiland E. Wood on Feb. 19, 1950, in Elk Point, S.D.
She was employed with Johnson Biscuit and later with Cudahays Packing Co. She was also employed with the Nickle Plate Restaurant and the Vita Seal Restaurant for several years.
She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses North Congregation and a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters and their husbands, Rita and Rick Lalumendre of South Sioux City and Jessie and Tony Buss and Burnie and Jeff Petersen, all of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Nicole and Cortney Lalumendre, Hollie and Kristine Petersen and Joseph and Jackie Rodriquez; and a great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Shari Duncan; a sister, Della Ostrich; and three brothers.

Betty J. Berning
MAPLETON, Iowa - Betty Jean Berning, 68, of Mapleton died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. by St. Mary's Guild and a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mrs. Berning was born July 19, 1929, in Anthon, Iowa, the daughter of Phirman and Rachel (Burow) Downing. She graduated from Anthon High School in 1948.
She married Wilfred Berning on May 5, 1949, in Anthon. The couple lived in Anthon until 1970, when they moved to Mapleton.
She was employed at Maple Valley School and in the bakery department at the IGA Grocery Store.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Guild and the American Legion Auxiliary, where she was active in the Memorial Day Poppy Program. She volunteered at the West Central Food Pantry and the Meals on Wheels Program. She enjoyed quilting and crafts.
Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Mike and Lori of Anthon; three daughters and their husbands, Mary and Don Davis of Mapleton, Deb and Rick Swanger of Battle Creek, Iowa, and Barb and Dean Moser of Danbury, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorthy Smith of Mapleton and Mary Ellen and her husband, Abby Abbott, of Mountain View, Calif.; and a brother, Charles "Chub" Downing of Anthon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Bernice and Gladys; and a granddaughter, Abby Davis.
Albert Krueger
CLIMBING HILL, Iowa - Albert William Karl Krueger, 86, of Climbing Hill died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill, with the Rev. Thomas A. Sabel officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon, Iowa.
Mr. Krueger was born July 15, 1911, in Climbing Hill, the son of Karl and Alviena (Fey) Krueger.
He married Freda Mundt on Nov. 28, 1932, in Elk Point, S.D.
He was employed as an electrician for his brother and then farmed in the Climbing Hill area.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he helped construct the church and held many church offices.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Darrel and Darlene of Anthon and Glenn and Sharon of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clara Huston of Gilmore City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Julius; a sister, Marie Miller; and a great-grandson.
Theodore R. Moeller
AKRON, Iowa - Theodore "Ted" R. Moeller, 54, of Akron died unexpectedly Tuesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Akron. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a Scripture prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

EDGEMONT, S.D. - Elisabeth L. "Betty" Russell-Helsel, 89, of Edgemont died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital.

ASHTON, Iowa - George F. Schoneman, 65, of Ashton died Monday at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

MAY CITY, Iowa - Earl Schwarting, 86, of Harris, Iowa, formerly of the May City area, died Tuesday at the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in May City. Burial will be in Harrison Township Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Warner Funeral Home in Hartley, Iowa.

STORM LAKE, Iowa - Floyd L. "Swede" Smith, 54, of Storm Lake died Monday at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m., at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Burial will be in Afton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Michael Spreng
DENISON, Iowa - Michael Lee Spreng, 49, of Omaha, formerly of Denison, died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at Mercy Care Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Burial will be in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.
Mr. Spreng was born March 6, 1948, in Denison, the son of Elmer and VaNetta (Quandt) Spreng. He was baptized and confirmed. He graduated from Denison Community School in 1967.
He married Carole Petersen on Oct. 12, 1968. The couple farmed near Arion, Iowa.
They moved to Sioux City in June 1981, where he was employed with Jolly Time Popcorn until 1986. He moved to Omaha in 1986, where he was employed by O'Donnell Mobil Home Service Company. He later moved to New Jersey for two years and returned to Omaha, where he was employed at the Olive Garden Cafe.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the National Farmers Organization. He was involved in Future Farmers of America and 4-H.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Andrew and Lilliana of Sioux City; two daughters, Carmen Spreng of Des Moines and Julie Spreng of Sioux City; a special friend, Juanita Olsen of Omaha; his mother of Arion; two brothers and their wives, Larry and Shirley and Richard and Lucinda, all of Sioux City; and a sister and her husband, Darlene and John O'Donnell of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his father.
C. Vander Aarde
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Christina Vander Aarde, 92, of Orange City died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Mrs. Vander Aarde was born Sept. 27, 1905, near Orange City, the daughter of Henry and Carrie (Van Wechel) Luchtenburg.
She married Bernard John Vander Aarde on March 1, 1930, in Orange City. The couple resided in Orange City. He died Feb. 14, 1980, in Orange City.
She entered Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa, and then Happy Siesta Retirement Home in Remsen. She moved to the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City in October 1997.
She was a member of First Reformed Church, where she was active in Lydia Circle and taught Sunday School for many years. She was active in the Sioux County Historical Society and the Heritage Foundation at Northwestern College in Orange City.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Dr. Stanley B. and Darlene of Orange City and the Rev. Robert L. and Marjorie of Great Falls, Mont.; six grandchildren, Paul, Liesl and David Vander Aarde, Debra Vander Ploeg, Mary Kenobbie and Dr. Tamela Scholten; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Diana Verdoorn of Ashton, Iowa, Mina Fedders of Orange City and Blanche Zevenbergen of Baldwin, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Luchtenburg of Ashton and Nancy Luchtenburg of Worthington, Minn.; and a brother-in-law, Robert Bonnecroy of Orange City.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Leon Bruce Vander Aarde; three brothers, Adolph, Leonard and John Luchtenburg; a sister, Ellen Bonnecroy; and an adopted sister, Jessie Blake.
Memorials may be directed to the Vander Aarde Scholarship Fund at Northwestern College and the Library Fund at First Reformed Church.

ROSSIE, Iowa - Blenda Welch, 83, of Texas, formerly of Rossie, died Tuesday at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Warner Chapel in Spencer, Iowa. Burial will be in North Lawn Memorial Park.

SPENCER, Iowa - James Wilcox, 83, of Spencer died Monday at Spencer Municipal Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, with the family present from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Warner Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
