Betty Bobier
Betty R. Bobier, 71, of Sioux City, formerly of South Sioux City, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 24, 1997, at her residence. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City with the Rev. Gordon Quitt officiating. Burial will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery in rural Homer, Neb. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bobier was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Monett, Mo., the daughter of Hurley R. and Sara Golda (Agans) Bowen.

She was employed at Buster Brown Shoe Factory in Monett until moving to South Sioux City in 1951.

She married George T. Laizure.

On March 3, 1953, she married Merle E. Bobier in South Sioux City. He died July 12, 1985, in Sioux City.

She was employed in the cafeteria at Iowa Beef Processors for several years. She was then employed in housekeeping at Matney Morningside Manor for 15 years.

She was a Methodist and was active with church activities and a former Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dan and Jeanne Laizure of Sioux City, two sisters, Wilma White and Ruby Jo Frear, both of Monett; two grandchildren, Tim Laizure and Shelly Krohn; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Tom, Harold and Chet Bowen; and two sisters, Clara Bowen and Sara Bobier.

Pallbearers will be Gordon Quitt, Tim and Dan Laizure, Jerry and Bob Bobier, Jerry Border and Dave Krohn.

Mattie E. Burns
Mattie E. Burns, 89, of Sioux City died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, at Mapleton Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Paul-Louis Arts officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Larkin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Burns was born June 15, 1908 in Jefferson, S.D. to Clark and Edna (Nichols) Smith. She graduated from the Waterbury Nebraska High School where she participated on the girls basketball team.

She married John J. Burns, February 27, 1930, in Sioux City. He died Sept. 26, 1990, in Sioux City. She was a homemaker.

She was member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the church Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America Ave Maria Court #269, the Catholic Woman League and a volunteer at the Bargain Center. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Bowling League.

Survivors include six daughters, Mary Jane and Ed Swanson, Lou Ann Benson, Rita and Ed Tomlinson, all of Sioux City; Jean Houlihan of Phoenix, Ariz., Janice and William McInerney of Bartlesville, Okla. and Judy and Larry Houlton of Omaha, Neb.; 27 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren; one brother George Smith of El Cajon, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother Rex Smith; four sisters, Elsie Hansen, Alda Mosher, Annie Barns and Lula Hall.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Tomlinson, Mike Benson, Matt Houlihan, Bill McInerney, Tim Swanson and Mark Houlton.

Loretta McLarty
Loretta F. McLarty, 73, of Sergeant Bluff died Friday at a local nursing home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home in Sioux City.

George Rosati
George Rosati, 80, of Sioux City, died Thursday at Walker Colonial Manor in South Sioux City after a long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ryan Walsted
Ryan Alexander Walsted, 2, of Sioux City died Thursday at Children's Hospital in Omaha, Neb.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Rosalie Blume
SCHLESWIG, Iowa - Rosalie M. Blume, 77, of Schleswig died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Blume was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Oto, Iowa, the daughter of Barney and Ethel (Benton) Green. She was raised and received her education in Oto, Iowa, graduating from Oto High School in 1937.

She was baptized as an infant in the Catholic faith.

She married Edgar W. Blume on Nov. 20, 1937, in Denison, Iowa. The couple farmed in Crawford County for many years. He died July 16, 1997. This year would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary.

Survivors include two sons, Marvin of Battle Creek and Dennis and his wife Juliana of Cushing; eight grandsons, Carl, Keith, Kevin, Harold, Kelly, Todd, Jared and Dustin Blume; 20 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Dale Green of Cushing, Melvin Green and his wife Alma of Anthon, Iowa, Glen Green and his wife Mabel of Grand Island, Neb., and Guiles Green and his wife Betty of Sergeant Bluff; two sisters and their husbands, Catherine and Vernon Chedester of Sioux City and Doloris and Richard Heath of Anthon; and two sisters-in-law, erna Green of Lawton, Iowa and Margaret Green of Anthon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; three brothers, William, Marvin and Harold Green; an infant sister, Patricia; and a grandson, Dennis Blume Jr.

William Lucas
BROOKINGS, S.D. - William John Lucas, 77, of Brookings died Thursday, July 24, 1997 at Brookview Manor in Brookings.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith Reformed Church in Brookings. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Hospers Cemetery in Hospers, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings and preceding services at the church on Monday.

Mr. Lucas was born Nov. 27, 1919, in rural Alton, Iowa, the son of Arie and Minnie (Beltman) Lucas. He attended country school and farmed near Sheldon, Iowa.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He married F. Marie Van Dyke on Jan. 14, 1948, in Hospers. The couple farmed near Slayton, Minn. for seven years. They then farmed near Hospers before moving to rural White, S.D. They retired in 1981 and moved to Brookings.

He sang with the Chordmasters barbershop group in Sheldon, Iowa for over 20 years.

He was a member of Faith Reformed Church and Gideons International.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Robert W. and Norma of Sioux Falls, S.D. and David L. and Vonnie of White; four grandchildren, Angela, Jeffrey, Chad and Christi Lucas; two brothers, Howard of Sheldon and Adrian of Ames, Iowa; three sisters, Henrietta Postma of Sheldon, Emma Peasarsi of St. George, Kan. and Lois Kreykes of Sheldon; and a sister-in-law, Waltera Lucas of Primghar, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant son, Kenneth Ray; and a brother, Emmerson.

Gladys Manning
IOWA CITY, Iowa - Gladys Manning, 88, of Iowa City died Thursday at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.

Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at the Lensing Funeral Home. Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

Opal Mansfield
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Opal A. Mansfield, 79, of Cherokee died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, at her residence of an apparent heart attack.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee with the Rev. Timothy Schott officiating. Her body will be cremated following the service with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Mrs. Mansfield was born Jan. 22, 1918, in Alta, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Stella (Brown) Brickson. She attended schools in Buena Vista County and graduated from Alta High School.

She married L.R. "Bud" Mansfield on Aug. 31, 1941, in Cherokee. He died Sept. 26, 1995.

She was employed as a telephone operator in Cherokee for many years. She also worked for Hy-Vee for many years, retiring in 1993.

She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survivors include three sons, Denny and his wife, Joan of Longmont, Colo., Dave of Le Mars, Iowa and Steve and his wife, Chris of Anchorage, Alaska; nine grandchildren, Jamie, Angie, Travis, Tyler, Tricia, Tamara, Tiffany, Kraig and Kyle Mansfield; two brothers and their wives, Orville and Mary Brickson of Alta and Orris and Marge Brickson of Provo, Utah; and a brother-in-law, Donald Mansfield of Mc Lean, Va.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Clyde and Conley Brickson.

Delores Means
MARCUS, Iowa - Delores Means, 62, of Green Valley, Ariz., formerly of Marcus, died Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital in Tuscon, Ariz.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus with the Rev. Daniel Quinn officiating. Burial will be in Marcus-Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. today at the Earnest and Roethler Funeral Chapel in Marcus and from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.

Mrs. Means was born March 4, 1935, in rural Marcus, the daughter of Emil H.J. and Irena S.K. (Schuknecht) Ebert. She was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church.

She graduated from Marcus High School in 1953.

She married Billy Means on May 2, 1954, in Marcus. The couple made their home in Los Angeles and San Bernardino, Calif. She was employed as an accountant for William Easley, CPA as head accountant for many years. The couple retired in 1992 and moved to Green Valley, Ariz.

Survivors include her husband; her mother, Irena S.K. (Ebert) Holtgrewe of Marcus; four brothers, Marvin Ebert and his wife, Lorna of Marcus, Vernon Ebert and his wife, Dorothy of Green Valley, Bernell Ebert and his wife, Diane of Lowden, Iowa and Orlan Ebert of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Marlis Donner of Milan, Ill. and Bernita and her husband, Jim Means of Ridgecrest, Calif.; two stepsisters; two sister-in-laws; 10 brother-in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Leon Ebert.

Violette Mills
FORT DODGE, Iowa - Violette R. "Vi" Mills, 76, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday after a long illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home.

Pauline Tyndall
MACY, Neb. - Pauline McCauley Tyndall, 81, of Macy died Thursday, July 24, 1997, at Winnebago Indian Hospital in Winnebago, Neb.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Alfred W. Gilpin Community Center in Macy. Burial will be in Omaha Indian Cemetery. A wake is being held at her residence in Macy. The Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tyndall was born Nov. 21, 1915, in Macy, the daughter of Theodore and Eva Faye (Martin) McCauley. She graduated from Pipestone Indian School in Pipestone, Minn. and the Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kan.

She received her nursing license from St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Neb. and her masters degree in public health administration at the University of Minnesota.

She married Richard W. Tyndall in 1932. He died Sept. 8, 1975 in Macy.

She was dedicated to better health of the Omaha people and was nationally active in Indian health affairs, having testified before congress and giving many public speeches.

She founded the Carl T. Curtis Health Center in Macy and served as director until retiring in 1976.

She was a lifelong member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the oldest member of the Buffalo Clan, the oldest surviving council member and established the "We Shake Hands" program.

Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Blackbird of Macy and Laura Poafpybitty of Lawton, Okla.; two sons, Wayne and Dennis Tyndall, both of Macy; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four great-great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles McCauley of Macy; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Donald and Theodore McCauley; and three sisters, Alice Tyndall, Lorene Reeder and Helen Roberts.
