Timothy J. Brown
Timothy J. Brown, 36, of Revere, Mass., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at a Boston, Mass., hospital following a brief illness.
The body was cremated, and services with burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Brown was born August 6, 1960, at Sioux City. He attended Heelan High School in Sioux City. He has lived in the Boston area for about the last six years.
Survivors include three brothers and their wives, Jim and Julie and Bill and Dianne, all of Sioux City, Bob and Marsha of Norfolk, Neb.; two sisters and their husbands, Cathie and Garry Eacker of Scottsdale, Ariz., Susie and Bob Gilbert of Sioux City; stepmother, Bev Brown of Sioux City; a stepbrother and his wife, David and Anna Edwards of Omaha, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin I. and Geraldine P. (Clark) Brown.
Ronald R. Daniels
Ronald R. Daniels, 56, of Sioux City died Saturday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Augustana Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home.
George J. Hegarty
George J. Hegarty, 81, of Sioux City died Friday at the Indian Hills Care Center following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m., a rosary at 7 p.m., and a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Cleo Murphy
Cleo Murphy, 79, of Sioux City, died Friday, June 6, 1997, at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Dillinger officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Murphy was born Sept. 23, 1917, at Luxora, Ark., to Otis and Mary Goza. She grew up in Bell City, Mo., and came to Sioux City in 1945. She was employed in the restaurant business and had worked at Joe Gantz Steak House, The Flamingo, and the Marina Inn. She married William J. Murphy Feb. 19, 1944, at Jacksonville, Fla. He died March 17, 1987, at Las Vegas, Nev.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Una "Joyce" and Clarence Worth of Bowling Green, Ky., Linda and Larry Massey Kukuk, Mary and Greg Solma, all of Sioux City, and Terri and Leo Stoos of Hinton, Iowa; a son, Mick of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, William Jacob Murphy; a brother, Jim Goza; her parents; a stepmother, Virginia Goza; a great-granddaughter, Haley Bockholt; and a daughter-in-law, Pamela Murphy.
Gladys E. Swanson
Gladys E. Swanson, formerly of Sioux City, died in August of 1996.
The body was cremated. Graveside memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Adaville Cemetery at Adaville, Iowa.
Bernice M. Wilson, 77, Sioux City, died Saturday; Larkin Northside Funeral Home.
Nina A. Jensen
COLERIDGE, Neb. - Nina A. Jensen, 97, of Coleridge died Dec. 31, 1996, at the Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge.
The body was cremated. Memorial services will be at 9:30 a.m. today in the Coleridge Cemetery. Burial will be in the Coleridge Cemetery.
Raymond P. Mousel
MANKATO, Minn. - Raymond P. Mousel, 85, of Mankato died Friday at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato, with the Rev. James Seitz officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Cemetery at Alton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will continue from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Herman Vander Well
LE MARS, Iowa - Herman Vander Well, 94, of Le Mars died Friday, June 6, 1997, at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the First United Methodist Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Lynn Potter officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mr. Vander Well was born July 7, 1902, in Boyden, Iowa, to Walter Sr. and Jenny (DeVries) Vander Well. He graduated from Rock Valley High School. He then taught country school for four years near Rock Valley. In 1929 he graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa. He married Everdena Bloem on August 24, 1929 at Nevada, Iowa. She died July 6, 1977. From 1929 to 1932 he taught school in Boyden. In 1932 he moved to Maurice, Iowa, where he was the principal for five years and later was superintendent for seven years. In 1944 he moved to Le Mars where he taught industrial arts and later drivers education until 1970. From 1970 to 1972 he was the supervisor of the school lunch and school bus programs. He also taught at Westmar College from 1952 to 1968 in the teacher training program for drivers education. In 1972 he became a bailiff for the Plymouth County District Court, a position he held until his retirement in 1991.
He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a life member of the Iowa State Teachers Association, National Teachers Association, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #70, Floyd Lodge #537 of Orange City formerly the Giblem Lodge #332, Scottish Rite Bodies of Sioux City, and the Le Mars Lions Club. In 1966 he was the president of State Drivers & Traffic Safety Association and had served on the board for several years. He was one of the originators of the drivers education program on both the state and national level.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, H.D. "Bud" and Jane of Le Mars, Dean and Jeanne of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Kate deHaas of Orange City, Iowa; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Vander Well; two brothers, Steve and Walter Jr.
