Adell Cozart
Adell Cozart, 76, of Lake Elsinore, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Jan. 11, 1997, at Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar, Calif. of injuries suffered in a traffic accident near Lake Elsinore.
Graveside memorial services were Jan. 17 in Riverside National Cemetery. Thomas Miller Funeral Home of Corona, Calif. was in charge of the cremation.
Mrs. Cozart, the former Adell Wendt, was born May 23, 1920, at Hornick, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Edith Wendt. She married Edward Cozart in Sioux City and the couple lived in Sioux City before moving to California. He died in 1987 at Lake Elsinore.
Mrs. Cozart was a homemaker and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She had lived at Lake Elsinore for 10 years.
Survivors include three sons, Daryl of Lake Elsinore, Gary of Norco, Calif., and Larry of Anaheim, Calif.; a brother, Ronald Wendt; and three sisters, Veronica Pecaut, Darline Harvey and Marline Rice, all of Sioux City; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established in Mrs. Cozart's name for the American Cancer Society.
Margie G. Kammerer
Margie G. Kammerer, 80, of Sioux City died Friday at her residence, following a lengthy illness of cancer.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. The body was cremated and there will be no visitation.
Archie Lind
Archie Lind, 82, of Golden, Colo., formerly of Pender, Neb., died Tuesday at Denver, Colo.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Munderloh Funeral Home at Pender. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Pender.
Cora Schroeppel
Cora Inez Schroeppel, 89, of Sioux City died Friday at Casa De Paz.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and services by the Silver Chapter, Order of Eastern Star at 7 p.m., all at Berkemier Funeral Home.
Margaret E. Wengert
Margaret E. Wengert, 88, of the Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City, died Thursday.
Services will be at 10:45 a.m. Monday at the Holy Spirit Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, at the chapel. Larkin Northside Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Florence Zanfes
Mrs. Florence Zanfes, 93, of Sioux City died Thursday at Westwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m. and the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Evelyn Grigg
LAWTON, Iowa - Evelyn "Eve" Grigg, 98, of Lawton died Thursday at Countryside Retirement Home.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Banner Township Cemetery at Lawton. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at McCulloch Funeral Home in Moville, Iowa.
Louisa J. Logsdon
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Louisa Jane Logsdon, 94, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., formerly of the eastern Nebraska and western Iowa areas, died Tuesday, March 4, 1997, at the Hacienda Rehabilitation and Care Center at Sierra Vista, following a recent stroke.
Burial services were Friday in the Graceland Cemetery at Sioux City. Larkin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Logsdon was born July 1, 1902, at Obert, Neb., to James and Isadora (Davis) Guy. Following high school, she attended business school and married Harry A. McCormick in 1922. They were in the newspaper business for many years and either worked at or owned weekly publications. He died in 1951. Later she married Arthur E. Logsdon. He died in 1971. Her last employment was as a linotype operator at a daily newspaper in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After retiring, she moved to Tucson, Ariz. in 1979, and to Sierra Vista in October of 1996.
Survivors inlcude two daughters and their husbands, Marcheta J. and Alfonso Graciano of Sierra Vista, Rose Marie and Anthony Marino of Severna Park, Md.; a son and his wife, Kenneth A. and Janice McCormick of Auburn, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters.
Marie Obbink
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Marie "Mary" Obbink, 76, of Sioux Center died Wednesday, March 5, 1997, at the Sioux Center Community Health Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today, at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church at Sioux Center, with the Rev. Robert Drenten officiating. Burial will be in the Memory Gardens Cemetery at Sioux Center. Visitation was Friday at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Mrs. Obbink was born August 2, 1920, at Lebanon, Iowa, to Simon and Carrie (Jansen) Vander Helm. She was educated to the eighth grade in Akron country school. She married Henry J. Obbink on Sept. 24, 1937, at Hawarden, Iowa. The couple lived in Ogilvie, Minn. for 23 years. They moved near Hawarden, where they farmed for nine years. In 1974, they moved to Sioux Center.
She was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church.
Survivors include her husband; three sons and their wives, Harold and Joyce of Boyden, Iowa, Roger and Jo of Hawarden, Gary and Linda of Sibley, Iowa; three grandsons; two granddaughters; five brothers and their wives, Allen and Ramona Vander Helm of Akron, Iowa, John and Doris and Henry and Eileen Vander Helm, all of Hawarden, Sam and Shirley Vander Helm of Braham, Minn., Basil and Lavina of Sioux Center; a sister-in-law, Vivian Vander Helm of Hawarden.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Pallbearers include Gerrit Huenink, Earl Kooi, Henry Kramer, Henry Ten Cate, John Wiechers, and Lawrence Wielenga.
Virgil Schafer
ONAWA, Iowa - Virgil "Schafe" Schafer, 71, of Onawa died Wednesday, March 5, 1997, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Neb., due to a sudden illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m Monday at the United Methodist Church in Onawa, with the Rev. David H. Wagner officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Corwin Township Cemetery at Ida Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present, at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.
Mr. Schafer was born July 24, 1925, at Breda, Iowa, to Herman and Lillian (Schlueter). He graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1943. He married Alice Stroz April 23, 1949, at Chicago. The couple made their home in Chicago and in Ida Grove before coming to Onawa in 1949. He was a depot agent for Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 43 years, retiring in 1986.
He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Hawaii, during WWII. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Onawa, the Onawa Country Club, and Ducks Unlimited.
Survivors include his wife of Onawa; five daughters and their husbands, Debra and Greg Reiman of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Diane and Randy Pendarvis of Peoria, Ill., Denise and Kevin Singler of Aurora, Ill., Dolores and Cliff Cagle of Oklahoma City, and Mary and Rodney Kuss of Steele, N.D.; a son, John of Onawa; a special friend, Adrian Gonzalez of LaVista, Neb.; a brother and his wife, Donald and Wilma of Ida Grove; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce.
Louise Staab
LE MARS, Iowa - Mrs. Louis "Louise" Staab, 90, of Le Mars died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at Happy Siesta Nursing Home at Remsen, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in Calvery Cemetery at Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.
Mrs. Staab was born July 10, 1906, rural Oyens, Iowa, to Frank and Anna (Heissel) Stoffel. She was raised and educated in the Oyens area. She married Louis Jan. 20, 1925, at Oyens. The couple farmed in the Remsen and Oyens area and moved into Le Mars in 1938. He died Oct. 24, 1971. She had been a resident of the Happy Siesta Nursing Home since May 9, 1991.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Christian Mothers, both in Le Mars.
Survivors include four sons, Donald and his wife Phyllis of Wellington, Nev., Eugene and his wife Maggie of Greeley, Colo., Wendell and his wife Patricia of Remsen, and James of Le Mars; four daughters, Evelyn and her husband Alex Barr, Dolores Autry, all of Dallas, Edna Schleisman of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Mary Lou and her husband Marvin Moos of Granville, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alex and his wife Mary Stoffel of Remsen, and Raymond Stoffel of Sacramento, Calif.
She was preceded in death by three sons-in-law, Richard Schleisman, Frank Schierholt, and Mark Autry; one grandson, Dean Schleisman; two brothers, one in infancy and Albert Stoffel; and a sister, Frances Stoffel as a child.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the granddaughters.
Audrey E. Woodhull
MACY, Neb. - Audrey E. Woodhull, 54, of Macy died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Alfred W. Gilpin Community Center at Macy, with Malcolm Tyndall officiating. Burial will be in the Omaha Indian Cemetery at Macy. Visitation will be Sunday evening at the Dedria Woodhull residence and at the Veterans of Foreign Wars building, both in Macy. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Woodhull was born Nov. 5, 1942, at Macy, to Henry and Margaret (Davis) Dick. She married Spencer Woodhull in 1963. She was a cook at Carl T. Curtis Health Center in Macy.
She was a member of the Native American Church and the Bahai Faith.
Survivors include her husband of Macy; three sons, Corbett Mitchell of South Sioux City, Jonathan and Aldo, both of Macy; three daughters, Dedria, Sterlene, and Christine, all of Macy; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a sister, Ethel Stricker; and a brother, Franklin Dick.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marlene Dick.
