Larry A. Aronson
Larry A. Aronson, 59, of Sioux City died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Larkin Funeral Home, with Monsignor Michael D. Sernett, pastor of Nativity Church, officiating. The body will be cremated. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Aronson was born July 1, 1938, in Charter Oak, Iowa. He was raised by his stepfather, Dan Dunlap and his mother, Marie (Schriber) Dunlap. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1960.
He married Luanne D. Striny on Feb. 10, 1968, in Sioux City. He was employed as an electrician for over 40 years with Thompson Electric Company and for six years with Metro Electric Inc.
He was a member and served on the executive board of the Electrical Workers Union Local 231 and president of the Apprentice Committee for the Electrical Workers Local. He was a member of Sioux City Elk Lodge 112 and a board member of the Sloan Country Club.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Matt and Carol of Salix, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Deanna and Steve Moss of Sioux City; four sisters, Peggy and her husband Jim West, Marlene and her husband Irv Helsley, Gloria O'Hara and Carole Sandman, all of Minden, Nev.; and four grandchildren, Melinda and Andrew Aronson and Kyle and Tyler Moss.
Pallbearers will be Robert Dunlap, Irv Helsley, Andy Sieger, Dick Shaffer, Dave Gill and Charlie Hacker.
Lucille L. Deane
Lucille Louise Deane, 72, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Burial will be at a later date. There will be no vistation.
Mrs. Deane was born Jan. 17, 1925, in Sioux City, the daughter of Horace and Alma L. (Aamold) Slocum. She graduated from Elk Point, S.D. High School.
She married Duane Deane on July 7, 1949, in Elk Point. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1953. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters and their husbands, Carol and Curt Stevenson of Sioux City and Laura and Ray Roseland of Sioux Center, Iowa; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Gayle Raby of Sioux City; and six nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald.
Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
Donald A. Ellsworth
Donald A. Ellsworth, 67, of Sioux City died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Larkin Northside Funeral Home, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. The body will be cremated. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Visitation will resume from 10 a.m. until service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Ellsworth was born March 13, 1930, in Sioux City, the son of Alva and Freda J. (Cassens) Ellsworth. He graduated from Leeds High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.
He married Lois M. Teague on Jan. 23, 1954, in Sioux City. He was employed as a truck driver with Standard Ready Mix, Cohen Wholesale Grocers, ITT, Sioux City Transportation for 21 years and Metz Baking Company for 10 years. He retired in 1993.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union for over 45 years and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 77.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Freda Ellsworth of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Gail and Don Rider of South Sioux City and Lori and Jim Doran of Sioux City; a son, Joe of Sioux City; two sisters, Marie Lorenzen of Sioux City and Joyce and her husband Milt Clary of Sergeant Bluff; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Greg Rider; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Harry and Charles "Chuck" Ellsworth.
Gerhardt Ellwein
Gerhardt Ellwein, 84, of Sioux City died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at his residence.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. David Fechner officiating. Burial will be in Freeman, S.D. City Cemetery.
Mr. Ellwein was born July 16, 1913, in Freeman, S.D., the son of Jacob and Regina (Frasch) Ellwein. He graduated from Freeman Junior College. He served in the U.S Army during World War II.
He married Dorothy Hartman on March 30, 1944. She died May 3, 1949. He married Edna Anderson on June 10, 1951, in Sioux City. She died May 24, 1996. He was employed with NuWay Drug for many years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where he was active in the "Be Ye Doers," and the American Legion Monahan Post 64.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Steve and Rita of Sioux City; a daughter, Kathy Ellwein of Kansas City, Kan.; two grandsons, Jared and Jesse; and two sisters, Rosie Meyer and Carrie Schamber, both of Freeman, S.D.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Margaret Anne.
Memorials in his name may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church.
Rose Hewett
Rose Hewett, 64, of Sioux City died Sunday at a Sioux City nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Logan Park Cemetery. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Peter A. Larson
Peter A. Larson, 88, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry B. Wolcott officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery at Quimby, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Larson was born July 17, 1909, in Bruce, S.D., the son of Isaac and Christina (Berg) Larson. He was raised in Bruce and moved to Sioux City in 1931.
He married Irene L. Mileham on July 23, 1934, in Sioux City. She died April 6, 1980, in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was employed at some packing plants and construction companies in Sioux City. He moved to Marcus, Iowa in 1948, where he farmed until retiring in 1970. He returned to Sioux City in 1970.
He was a member of the American Legion Monahan Post 64. He enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Georgene Larson of Sioux City, and eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Kay; three sisters, Marie Strub, Anna Larson and Ida Grossman; and three brothers, Oscar, Charles and John Larson.
Hilary M. Oberembt
Hilary M. "Larry" Oberembt, 69, of Mundelein, Ill., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at his residence.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Santa Maria del Popolo Chapel in Mundelein. Burial will be in Ascension Cemetery at Libertyville, Ill. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a vigil service at 8 p.m., at Kristan Funeral Home in Mundelein.
Mr. Oberembt was born Dec. 17, 1927, in Dimock, S.D. He graduated from Trinity High School in Sioux City, where he participated in basketball, football and boxing. He attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., where he played football. He was an avid golfer and was employed at the Countryside Golf Course in Mundelein.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine (Rorris); two sons and their wives, Randy and Donna of St. Louis, Mo. and Lane and Frances of Lindenhurst, Ill.; a daughter and her husband, Laurie Oberembt-Borman and Matt Borman of Falls Church, Va.; two sisters, Colette Oberembt of Milwaukee and Patricia and her husband Paul Kennedy of Chicago, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Katherine, Joanne and Jacquelyn.
Memorials may be directed to the Carmel High School Booster Club in Mundelein.
John Rosenberger
John Finley Rosenberger, 57, of Pattaya City, Thailand, formerly of Sioux City, died of cancer Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, at his residence.
Services and cremation will be held in Thailand.
Mr. Rosenberger was born Sept. 6, 1940, in Sioux City, the son of F.O. "Whitey" and Kathlyn (Abbey) Rosen rger. He graduated from East High School and attended Morningside College. He was employed as an electrician with Pacific Power and Light in Portland, Ore. and Aramco of Saudi Arabia, retiring to Pattaya City in 1990.
Survivors include his wife, Ting of Pattaya City; two sons, Stuart and Matthew of Portland; a daughter, Adele of Portland; a granddaughter, Mekala; a brother and his wife, Gary and Connie Rosenberger of Sioux City; and a sister and her husband, Mary and Mark of Denver, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Alice V. Towne
Alice V. Towne, 78, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Dr. Charles Klink, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Towne was born Sept. 16, 1919, in Gilberton, Penn., the daughter of Michael and Rose (Yourke) Zenas. She spent most of her life in New Jersey.
She married Donald F. Towne on May 3, 1943, in Elkton, Md. He died March 15, 1993, in Springfield, Mo. She lived in Springfield for eight years before moving to Sioux City in 1993.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Metheven Circle of the church.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey of Independance, Mo. and Dr. Roger and his wife Susan of Marquette, Mich.; a daughter and her husband, Deborah and Richard Schofield of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Beatrice and Edward Bigos of New Jersey; and three grandchildren, Joshua, Shannon and Gordon.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Gretchen; two brothers; and two sisters.
Memorials in her name may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
Charles E. Whitmore
Charles E. Whitmore, 69, of Sioux City died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Nelson-Berger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Edna M. Etchison
MAPLETON, Iowa - Edna Margaret Etchison, 90, of Roseville, Calif., formerly of Mapleton, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1997, in Roseville.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ute, Iowa, with the Rev. Chris Barr officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mrs. Etchison was born Sept. 23, 1907, in Ute, the daughter of Herman and Lucy Kroll. She was raised in Ute and graduated from Ute High School.
She married John Etchison on May 10, 1926, in Ute. The couple made their home in Mapleton. He died in 1957. In 1984, she moved to California.
She was a member of the Mapleton Civic Club, the Garden Club, the Willow Vale Golf Club and the Ute Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include a son, Donald of Danville, Calif.; a daughter, Margaret "Dede" Beach of Roseville; four grandchildren, Paula Etchison, Ron and Dave Beach and Julie Beach-Fastenau; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Kroll of Ashville, N.C.; and a sister, Pauline Carlisle of Brighton, Colo.

PENDER, Neb. - Golda "Tony" Evans, 87, of Pender died Monday at the Pender Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson, Neb. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender.

RANDOLPH, Neb. - Bruce Dean Goetsch, 32, of Randolph died Saturday of injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Randolph.

LAWTON, Iowa - Thomas Martin Judkins, 50, of Butte, Neb., formerly of Lawton, died suddenly at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 7 p.m. today at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, with Dr. Robert E. Peters officating. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Roper and Son's Funeral Home in Lincoln, Neb. Burial will be in Danish Cemetery at Lincoln. Mr. Judkins was born Aug. 1, 1947, in Detroit, Mich. He was raised in Davey, Neb. He graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1965. He received his bachelor's degree from Peru State College and his master's and specialists degrees from the University of Nebraska.
He married Laura E. Griess of Waverly, Neb. in 1968. He taught school in Sabetha, Kan. and Hartington, Neb. He was the school administrator at Newcastle, Neb. Public School, Lawton-Bronson Schools and Butte, Neb. Public School.
He was a member of Nebraska School Administrators Association, Phi Delta Kappa, the University of Nebraska Alumni, the Nebraska School Board Association, the Schools Administrators of Iowa, the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Association of Supervisors of Curriculm Development. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating.
Survivors include his mother, Lenora E. Judkins of Lincoln; two daughters, Carrie Ann Judkins of Sioux City and Jill Renee Judkins of Lawton; a son, Garrik Thomas Judkins of Lawton; a sister and her husband, Karla and Roger Puthoff of Huron, S.D.; and his former wife, Laura Judkins of Lawton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph B. Judkins.

ASHTON, Iowa - Paula "Pauline" Knudson, 93, of Sibley, Iowa, formerly of Ashton, died Sunday at the Country View Manor in Sibley.

AKRON, Iowa - Violet B. McInnis, 92, of Akron died Monday at the Akron Care Center following a brief illness.

SPENCER, Iowa - Bernice Roberts, 91, of Spencer died Sunday at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.

Jan L. Sorenson
ONAWA, Iowa - Jan L. Sorenson, 57, of Onawa died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at her residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Congregational Church in Whiting, Iowa, with the Rev. Patricia Minnick officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.
Mrs. Sorenson was born Aug. 26, 1940, in Onawa, the daughter of Harold and Isabel (Nicholson) Langren. She graduated from Whiting High School in 1958.
She married Darrell L. Sorenson on April 6, 1961, in Whiting. She was employed at Holmes Publishing Company with the Salvage Locator in Whiting.
She was a member of Congregational Church and the Drifters Dance Club.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter and her husband, Michelle and Gordon Olberding of Washington, Iowa; a son and his wife, Mike and Carol of Castana, Iowa; three grandchildren, Steve, Stacia and Skyler; and a sister, Diana Hilton of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Jennifer.
Charles Stienstra
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Charles "Chuck" Stienstra, 72, of Orange City died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Jeff Sajdak and the Rev. Paul Bakker officiating. Burial will be prior to the service in West Lawn Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 12:45 p.m. today at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Mr. Stienstra was born Nov. 10, 1925, in Hull, Iowa, the son of Peter and Jessie (Kroesc) Stienstra. He was raised in Hull and graduated from Hull High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He married Jeanette Dykstra on June 10, 1948, in Hull. The couple lived in Hull, where they operated Steinstra Construction. In 1986, they moved to Holland, Mich. and in 1994, they moved to Orange City. He entered the Long Term Care Facility at the Orange City Municipal Hospital early in 1997.
He was a member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church and the American Legion Wegman-Koele Post in Hull. He served as an elder and deacon on the consistory of the Hope Christian Reformed Church in Hull, on the Hull Christian School Baord of Directors, the Hull City Council and the Hull Planning and Zoning Commission.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters and their husbands, Donna and Tom Strikwerda of Kensington, Md., Jeri and Bob Vander Vegte of Bloomington, Minn., Rachel and Wayne Kosters of Eden Prairie, Minn. and Rebecca and Berry Wassink of Holland, Mich.; two sons and their wives, Pete and Aletha of Hull and Steve and Pam of Orange City; 12 grandchildren; four brothers, Ivan of Spencer, Iowa, Gerald of Redlands, Calif., Peter Jr. of Parker, Ariz. and Jim of Tehachapi, Calif.; and a sister, Helena Whitehurst of Redlands.
Memorials may be directed to the Long Term Care Facility or Hospice.

SPENCER Iowa - Louise Wilson, 73, of Spencer died Sunday at the Milford, Iowa Care Center.
