Charlotte H. Dilley
Charlotte H. Dilley, 82, of Sioux City died Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, at her residence following a lengthy
illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Sieveking officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Mrs. Dilley was born Aug. 22, 1915, in Sioux City, the daughter of Charles and Gertrude (Johnson) Austin. She graduated from Central High School in January 1934 and Nettleton Business Training College in 1937.

She married Willard S. Dilley on Feb. 14, 1942, in Papillion, Neb. He died Dec. 11, 1984.

She was employed at Tollerton-Warfield from 1937 to 1942 and at the Woodbury Bank, the Social Security Office and the Lutheran Hospital, while training at NBT.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and the 31 Birthday Card Club. She was a past officer in Cole's Addition Association and Franklin School PTA.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Richard and Barbara of North Little Rock, Ark.; two daughters and their husbands, Mary and Les King of Sioux City and Cindy and Dennis Dreblow of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Kathy Rosauer, Karla Ruby, Jon King, Scott Dilley and Jason Dreblow; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Mildred
Hattlested of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Wilbur and Albert Austin; and three sisters, Clara Lawson, Helen Conant and Marietta Carlson.

Pallbearers will be Scott Dilley, Jon King, Jason Dreblow, Doug Ruby, Al Rosauer, Tom Cruse, Pat Driscoll and Richard Bobys.

Memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Marian M. Donaway
Marian M. Donaway, 79, of Sioux City died of Alzheimer's disease Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Dr. Allen D. Call, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Private burial services will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Donaway was born March 9, 1918, in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Togie and Minnie (Buckner) Moberg.

She married G.E. Donaway on June 16, 1940, in Rock Island, Ill. The couple came to Sioux City in 1953. He died in 1968 in Sioux City.

She was employed as a financial aid officer for St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing for 29 years, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a registrar, the American Business Women's Association, the Eastern Star in North Platte, Neb., the Friends of the Public Library and other organizations.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Richard and Caroline of Sioux City; and a granddaughter, Erin.

Memorials may be directed to the Big Sioux Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

Maxine M. Johnson
Maxine M. "Sis" Johnson, 77, of Pierre, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday at a Pierre hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton, S.D. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. and a Scripture service at 6 p.m., at the Anderon-Perasso Funeral Home in Sioux City. Visitation will resume from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

Marie L. Jorgensen
Marie L. Jorgensen, 92, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Trintiy Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John Meyer and the Rev. Kathy Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Floyd Cemetery. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Miss Jorgensen was born June 6, 1905, in Sioux City, the daughter of Chris and Emma (Rasmussen) Jorgensen. She graduated from Central High School.

She was employed as a seamstress with Alfs Manufacturing Company.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors inlcude a brother and his wife, Clarence and Rose of Sioux City; two sisters, Minnie and her husband, Martin Simon, and Florence Arioso, all of Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Jorgensen of Sioux City and Ruth Jorgensen of San Diego, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Edward Bookhart of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Robert, Sam and Carl, and two sisters, Elva Bookhart and Esther.

Memorial may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Gloria J. Miller
Gloria J. Miller, 62, of Coldwater, Mich., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at her residence in Coldwater.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Lockwood Community Church in Coldwater, with the Rev. Shayne Looper officiating. Burial will be in Lockwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.

Mrs. Miller was born May 18, 1935, in Sioux City, the daughter of Charles and Edith DeLap. She worked for many years managing their family owned restaurant in North Sioux City. She moved to Coldwater in 1984, where she was employed with Adapt for two years.

She was a member of Lockwood Community Church, where she operated a card ministry. She was a volunteer with the prison ministries.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Nyreen and his wife, Gayle, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Dale Nyreen Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Alcester, S.D. and Guy Larsen of Minnesota; three daughters, Susan Nelson of Boring, Ore., Jenny Nyreen of McKinney, Texas, and Norma Jean and her husband, Dean Arndt, of Dover, Minn.; two sisters, Bonnie Moore and Beverly Dallen, both of Coldwater; her former husband, Dale Nyreen Sr.; 29 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Sonny and Richard DeLap; and a sister, Shirley DeLap.

Harold Strong Sr.
Harold G. Strong Sr., 77, of Sioux City died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Logan Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Berkemier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ethel M. Murray, 89, of Sioux City died Tuesday; Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Alfred W. Beckmann
PENDER, Neb. - Alfred W. Beckmann, 74, of Pender died Tuesday at his residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Pender. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender.

Clarence N. Bomgaars
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Clarence N. Bomgaars, 80, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at his residence.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Brian Steenhoek officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Mr. Bomgaars was born Aug. 5, 1917, in Sioux Center, the son of Nick and Cora (Hubers) Bomgaars. He attended rural school and graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1935.

He married Dorothy Poppen on June 28, 1946, in Sioux Center.

He was a farmer. He served as Welcome Township clerk and assessor for many years.

Mr. Bomgaars was a member of Central Reformed Church.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Roger and Minerva of Sioux Center, David and Anita of Orange City, Iowa, and C. Eugene and Amy of Sheldon, Iowa; a daughter, Marilyn Mayberry of Orange City; and 10 grandchildren, Madison Mayberry and Angela, Emily, Ryan, Megan, Christopher, Curtis, Jill, Anne and Katherine Bomgaars.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Nelson, and two brothers, John N. and Arie N. Bomgaars.

Clarinda G. Bovill
BERESFORD, S.D. - Clarinda G. Bovill, 86, of Beresford died Monday at the Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Romsdal Lutheran Church in rural Beresford. Burial will be in Romsdal Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.

Eldon A. Christensen
CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa - Eldon Alfred "E.A." Christensen, 79, of Sioux City, former mayor of Correctionville, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at Indian Hills Care Center.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville, with the Rev. Consorcia A. Sanchez and the Rev. Susan Miller officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. today in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the F. Roger Baumann Post 624. Barker Funeral Home of Correctionville is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Christensen was born Sept. 22, 1918, in Botna, Iowa, the son of the Rev. Alfred and Arvilla (Smith) Christensen. He had lived in Climbing Hill, Muscatine, Marshalltown, Dubuque, Centerville and Floyd, Iowa, and Wray, Colo.

He graduated from Floyd (Iowa) High School in 1935. He attended Upper Iowa University on a baseball scholarship. He graduated from the University of Dubuque in 1939.

He was employed with Interstate Power Company in Dubuque for one year. In 1940, he accepted a coaching posistion with the Climbing Hill public schools.

He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II as a pilot, stationed in Kansas City, San Francisco and the Hawaiian Islands.

He also attended school in Iowa City, Iowa. He returned to Climbing Hill.

He received his master's degree from the University of South Dakota in 1950, and studied for his doctorate at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo.

He married Doris G. Olson in 1948 in Sioux City. In 1948 he became the school superintendent at Luton, Iowa, and in 1952 he became the superintendent of the Peterson Consolidated School District in Peterson, Iowa.

The couple moved to Schleswig, Iowa, in 1956, and then to Correctionville in 1970, where he was the superintendent of the Eastwood School District.

In 1986 he received an award from the Iowa State Athletic Association for his outstanding contribution to athletics in Iowa.

He was president of the Clay County Schoolmasters Association in Peterson, president of the Crawford County Schoolmasters Association, president of the Boyer Valley Athletic Conference and headed the building program, all at Schleswig.

He was elected mayor of Correctionville in 1993.

He was a member of the Aethenian Fraternity at the University of Dubuque, the Masonic Lodge in Denison, Iowa, and the F. Roger Baumann Post 624 in Cushing, Iowa. He was a member of the Iowa State Education Association and the National Education Association. His name first appeared in the Who's Who in American Education in 1950.

He attended the Methodist Church and was a Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and bird watching.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Camille and Dr. Kevin Lindahl of Sioux City and Pamela and Brian Briese of Correctionville; a sister, Alpha Hoover of Tuscon, Ariz.; a brother, W. Dale Christensen of Minneapolis, Minn.; and four grandchildren, Adam and Nicole Lindahl and David and Samuel Briese.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant grandson, Nathan Briese; and two sisters-in-law, Marian Britton and Marilyn Christensen.

Pallbearers will be Les Zahnley, Terry Shever, Kirk Utesch, Randall Beck, Gaylen Knaack and Tom Mammen.

Memorials may be directed to the Siouxland Juvenile Diabetic Foundation.

Donald Giese
SUTHERLAND, Iowa - Donald "Gus" Giese, 69, of Sutherland died Monday at Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. Burial will be in Waterman Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 152 of Sutherland. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Warner Funeral Home of Sutherland.

Francis Gubbels Sr.
HARTINGTON, Neb. - Francis Anthony Gubbels Sr., 75, of Hartington died Monday at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, S.D.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with rosaries at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 8 p.m., at the Wintz Funeral Home of Hartington.

Margie M. Hinds
ANTHON, Iowa - Margie M. Hinds, 80, of Nevada, Mo., formerly of Anthon, died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at a nursing home in Nevada.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Hinds was born Nov. 30, 1916, in Woodbury County, the daughter of John and Christina (Schmidt) Peters.

She married Marvin J. Hinds on Oct. 2, 1940, in Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple had lived in Iowa, Oregon and Missouri. She was last employed with Nevada Manor in Missouri. The couple enterd Nevada Manor Beverly Home in January 1990.

She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and sewing.

Survivors include her husband of Correctionville, Iowa; two sisters, Betty Inlay of Sioux City and Frances Stratton of Rogers, Ark.; a brother and his wife, Elmer and Bernice Peters of Rembrant, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Helen Paulsen of Correctionville and Mae Hinds of Anthon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy and Lillian.

Dale E. Irwin
SAC CITY, Iowa - Dale E. Irwin, 88, of Sac City died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997, at Citadel Nursing Home in Mesa, Ariz.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at United Methoidst Church in Sac City, with the Rev. Karl Giese officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Mr. Irwin was born Oct. 8, 1909, in Sac County in Iowa, the son of Orie F. and Elizabeth (Fulcher) Irwin. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in animal husbandary.

He began farming in Sac County in 1942.

He was a county agent for the Iowa State Uiversity Extension Service and served as county club agent in Emmet County, then as county Extension director in Buchanan County.

Following World War II, he was selected as a delegate to Europe for the Marshall Plan. He traveled with the Iowa Flying Farmers to study the damage to agriculture in Europe. He was president of the Iowa Cattlemen's Association and the Iowa Pork Producers. He also was active in soil conservation programs. He was selected for the Skelly Master Farmer Award.

He was a member of Pleasant Hill Church and Sac City First Methodist Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a daughter and her husband, Mary Lee and Bill Waggoner of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; a son, Ed of Aspen, Colo.; a sister and her husband, Muriel and Virgil Shepard of Allison, Iowa; and two grandsons, Greg and Jeff Waggoner.

Cora C. Johnson
HAWARDEN, Iowa - Cora Caroline Johnson, 88, of Hawarden died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, with the Rev. Loren Vogler officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mrs. Johnson was born June 29, 1909, in Plymouth County in Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Ernestine (Benien) Meether. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She moved with her family to Hawarden in March 1920. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1929.

She married Ragnar Johnson on Nov. 22, 1939, near Akron, Iowa. The couple farmed in Plymouth County before moving to Hawarden in November 1975. He died Aug. 27, 1985.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Meether, and two sisters, Florence Gronemeyer and Ella Kleinhans.

Fritz Kock
ROCK VALLEY, Iowa - Fritz Kock, 78, of Rock Valley died Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, at Canton-Inwood Hospital in Canton, S.D.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. James Demke officiating. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery in rural Sioux Center, Iowa. Visitation will begin at noon today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Mr. Kock was born Nov. 4, 1918, near Rock Valley, the son of Fred and Ann (Schuldt) Kock. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

He married Louise Hanzen on Jan. 29, 1941, in Inwood, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Rock Valley area until retiring into town in 1981.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He also served on the Rock Valley Community School Board and the Farmer's Lumber Company board.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Doris and Rodney Hall of St. Louis Park, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Margit Kock of Rock Valley; a brother-in-law, Harold Simunek of Canton, S.D.; a sister, Dorothy McKenney of Inwood; and five grandchildren, David and Michael Kock and Douglas, Julie and Neil Hall.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dale, seven brothers and five sisters.

Miller P. Lutton
LAUREL, Neb. - Miller Phelps Lutton, 69, of Seattle, Wash., formerly of Laurel, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at his residence.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home in Seattle.

Mr. Lutton was born July 14, 1928, in Laurel. He was raised in Nebraska.

He married Ellen Joan Grehn of Fremont, Neb.

He moved to Seattle in 1962. In 1974, he moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he served as director of housing for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He retired in 1987 and returned to Seattle.

Survivors include three sons, M. Dudley of Bozeman, Mont., Howard of Puyallup, Wash., and Jerry of Anchorage; six grandchildren, John Dudley and Jessica, Maxwell, Sarah, Alexander and Douglas; a brother, John of New York; a sister, Jane Witten of Illinois; two nieces; and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen; and a son, Stuart.

Sam Oldenkamp
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Sam Oldenkamp, 88, of Orange City died Tuesday at the long term care facility of Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Reformed Church in Orange City. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Elsie Olson
MARCUS, Iowa - Elsie Olson, 94, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Marcus, died Monday at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Earnest and Roethler Funeral Home in Marcus.

Minnie V. Roeschke
LAWTON, Iowa - Minnie Viola Roeschke, 88, of Lawton died Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, with Dr. Robert E. Peters, pastor, and the Rev. Bruce Zellmer officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the McCulloch Funeral Home of Moville, Iowa.

Mrs. Roeschke was born Dec. 27, 1908, in rural Moville, the daughter of John and Elfrieda (Hansen) Bush. She graduated from Lawton High School.

She married George Roeschke on Aug. 13, 1931, in Centerville, S.D. He died June 22, 1974, in Kingsley, Iowa.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Wesley and his wife, Donna, of Moville and Wendel of Bronson, Iowa; three daughters and their husbands, LaVonne and Edward Benning of Denver, Colo., JoAnn and Chet Alber of Bladen, Neb., and Joyce and Richard Baltz of Omaha; nine grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Joyce and Douglas Wurscher of Moville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond, and an infant sister, Dorothy.
