Heath B. Vanderlinden
Heath B. Vanderlinden, 23, of Papillion, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at an Omaha hospital from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kahlers Dolce Mortuary in Papillion. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Vanderlinden was born Oct. 2, 1974, in Sioux City, the son of Robert and Loretta (Brandt) Vanderlinden.

Survivors include his fiance, Mindy Hill; two sons, Andrew of Phoenix, Ariz., and Giles Connor; his parents; a brother, Shane; a sister Amanda Vanderlinden; his grandparents, Jerry and Beryl Vanderlinden, and Raymond and Lola Brandt, all of Sioux City; and many aunts, uncles and other relatives.

Howard C. Mieras
Howard Charles Mieras, 77, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Friday at his residence.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church. Private graveside services will be Friday. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Paul D. Rysdam
Paul D. Rysdam, 76, of Sioux City died Saturday at a Sergeant Bluff nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Martin F. Petersen
Martin F. "Pete" Petersen, 72, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Kretzschmar, pastor of Whitfield United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Petersen was born Aug. 16, 1925, in Belden, Neb., the son of Elmer and Minnie (Phillips) Petersen. He was educated in the Belden and Randolph, Neb. area. He graduated from the Sioux City Barber College and later from the Southern College of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas.

He was employed at WNAX Radio in Yankton, S.D. from 1941 to 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Pacific Theater with the Signal Corps. He returned to Sioux City, where he was employed as a barber. In the 1960s and early 1970s, he owned and operated Westside Barber Shop. In 1978, he became an instructor in the band department at Western Iowa Tech Community College, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the American Legion Duane Nelson Post 1981. He played in several bands in the area, including his own Dublin House Four and River City Brass Band.

Survivors include his wife, Leona of Sioux City; three sons, Ron and Rick of Houston, Texas and David of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two stepsons, Don Schultz and his wife Martha and Brian Schultz, all of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Ruben Camarillo of Sioux City; and three stepdaughters, Julie Petersen, Gale and her husband Dick Millie and Kris and her husband Dave Brunkhorst, all of Sioux City; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

William G. Johnson
William G. "Bill" Johnson, 72, of Sioux City died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a prayer services at 7 p.m. followed by a Masonic service conducted by Morningside Lodge 615, all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Emma B. Sager
Emma Blanche Sager, 87, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 11, 1998, in Sioux City.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, Iowa, with the Rev. Marvin Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sager was born Dec. 18, 1910, in Lawton, the daughter of Fred Hayes and Blanche Myrtle (Joseph) Couch. She was raised in Lawton, graduating from Lawton High School and Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa.

She married Louie D. Sager on May 24, 1941, in Hartington, Neb. She had moved to rural Merrill, Iowa and then to rural Hinton, Iowa. She taught school from 1950 to 1978, in rural Hinton and Kingsley, Iowa and then at Kingsley-Pierson Community School. She moved to Lawton in 1979. He died Aug. 16, 1984. She entered Sunrise Retirement Center in January 1992.

She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women, the Eastern Star of Kingsley and the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Louie E. and Connie of South Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Mary Ann and Paul Niemeier of Lawton, Iowa; two sisters, Georgian Sparr of Lawton and Josephine Frey of Newark, Ohio; five grandchildren, Chadwick Sager, Angela Votek, Felicia, Richard and Melissa Niemeier; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers will be Fred, Jeff, James and Kim Sparr, Don Wohlert and Nick Votek.

Memorials may be directed to either Community Presbyterian Church or the Sunrise Retirement Center.

Abraham J. Ferris
Abraham J. "A.J." Ferris, 77, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital of complications of a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dan Greving officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Mr. Ferris was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Sioux City, the son of William A. and Zaher (Sroer) Ferris. He attended Washington Elementary School and graduated from East High School in 1939. He attended Morningside College, graduating in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army with the Quatermaster Corps, during World War II.

He married Katharine Browing on Dec. 27, 1948, in Sioux City. He was employed with Nutrena Feeds from 1950 to 1958 as a traffic manager. He then owned and operated Ferris Shoe Repair.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Theresa and Eugene Grave of Schuyler, Neb. and Mari and Richard Radtke of Sutherland, Iowa; two sons, James and his wife Deb and Marc, all of Sioux City; a brother, Bill of Sioux City; a sister, Glory Majeres of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard; and two brothers, Charles and Albert.

Memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Diabetes Center in Sioux City.

Agnes M. Beyer
Agnes M. (Jochum) Beyer, 74, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 11, 1998, in Silver Springs, Md.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph A. Dillinger, associate pastor, and the Rev. James A. Bruch, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Ellendale, Iowa. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Beyer was born Nov. 30, 1923, in Alton, Iowa. She was raised in Alton.

She married Vincent M. Beyer on Nov. 18, 1946, in Alton. The couple moved to Sioux City from Akron, Iowa in 1959. She was employed with the Casey's General Store. He died June 1, 1977, in Sioux City.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and enjoyed flower gardening.

Survivors include six daughters, JoAnn Storer Hansen of Denver, Colo., Joyce and her husband James Bear of Aurora, Colo., Nancy Beyer and her husband Joe Albright of Minnetonka, Minn., Cindy and her husband Glenn Scherb of Kiester, Minn., Brenda Beyer and her husband Barry Schade of Minneapolis, Minn. and Lori Beyer of Silver Springs, Md.; four sons and their wives, Ken and Carol of Rock Valley, Iowa, Jim and Sharon of Ponca City, Okla., Rick and Cindy of Sioux City and Randy and Shelly of Blair, Neb.; her mother, Josephine (Block) Jochum of Alton; four sisters, Loretta and her husband Roy Murphy of Sheldon, Iowa, Hilda Rolfes of Luverne, Minn., Martha Jochum of Alton and Rita and her husband Jerome Fischer of Hospers, Iowa; a brother-in-law and his wife, Bob and Lorraine Fischer of Granville, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Hugo G. Jochum; a sister, Evelyn Fischer; and a brother-in-law, Elmer Rolfes.

Montie L. Green, 61, of Dakota City died Sunday; Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Freeman Faber
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Freeman Faber, 64, of Sioux Center died Friday, April 10, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Robert Drenten officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Orange City, Iowa. Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Freeman was born Sept. 28, 1933, in Orange City, the son of Peter F. and Lydia (Huizenga) Faber. He graduated from Northwestern Acadeny and attended Northwestern College for one year.

He married Marjorie Ekdom on June 8, 1954, in Ireton, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1956. He was employed as a manager of the Farmers Co-op Society in Ireton and later as assistant manager in Sioux Center, retiring in April 1997.

He was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church, where he was an elder, and the American Legion. He served on the Christian School board, and as deacon and elder at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church. He volunteered at Trinity Corrections in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Renee and Mike Noteboom of Orange City and Barb and Kent Kelderman of Des Moines; a son and his wife, Doug and Cindy of Ireton; eight grandchildren, Ryan and Elise Noteboom, Ross, Abby and Kate Kelderman, Kayla, Eric and Keaven Faber; two sisters and their husbands, Emilene and Edwin Kleinwolterink of Sibley, Iowa and Karen and Delmar Bergsma of Orange City; a sister-in-law, Judy Faber of Orange City; stepmother, Lucy Faber of Orange City; a stepsister, Elizabeth Bruxvoort of Jenison, Mo.; and three stepbrothers, Peter Dean, Rod and Gary Jeltema, all of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Otto and Harlan in infancy.

Andrew Akkerman
HARRIS, Iowa - Andrew Akkerman, 101, of Harris died Saturday at the Lake Park Care Center in Lake Park, Iowa.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Round Lake, Minn. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Harris. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Walton, Roste and Vogel Funeral Home in Sibley, Iowa. Visitation will resume from noon until service time Tuesday at the church.

John Dose Jr.
DANBURY, Iowa - John Dose Jr., 71, of rural Danbury died Saturday at his residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon, Iowa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Diane Furness
INWOOD, Iowa - Diane Furness, 36, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Inwood, died Saturday at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, of injuries suffered in an motorcycle accident.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Christian Reformed Church in Inwood. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery. Visitation will be today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home in Inwood.

Ray S. Manska
STORM LAKE, Iowa - Ray S. Manska, 85, of Storm Lake died Saturday at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake of injuries suffered in a fall at his residence.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Family burial services will be in Barnes Township Cemetery at Linn Grove, Iowa, with a flag presentation conducted by the AmVets Post 66. Visitation will be Tuesday at the Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

John W. Whelan
STORM LAKE, Iowa - John W. "Jack" Whelan, 62, of Storm Lake died Friday in Storm Lake, while playing golf.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a Legion of Mary rosary at 3:30 p.m., a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., all at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
