Montie L. Green
Montie L. Green, 61, of Dakota City died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Anderson, pastor of Dakota City United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery.

Mrs. Green was born May 23, 1936, in Utica, S.D., the daughter of Harold and Valeria (Pixler) Maaske.

She married Henry "Red" Gay on Jan. 28, 1959, in Reno, Nev. He died July 13, 1978, in Dakota City. She married John A. Green on Dec. 31, 1982, in Dakota City.

She was employed as a supervisor at IBP for 14 years and with the Dakota County Sheriff's Office for one year. She also was employed as a bingo manager at Atokad Park for 10 years. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Fred and Wanda Gay of Homer, Neb.; a daughter, Sandra Willems and her finance, Don Coffey, of Sioux City; a stepson and his wife, Michael and Sherry Green of Denver, Colo.; her mother, Valeria Oddo of Sioux City; five brothers and their wives, Ken and Tami Maaske, Duane and Patsy Maaske, Bob and Carol Maaske and William and Terri Maaske, all of Sioux City, and Leonard and Cookie Maaske of Bartlet, Texas; a sister, Nina Harder of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; a stepdaughter, Lisa Green; and a sister, Kay Knudsen.

Pallbearers will be her nieces, Stormie Westphal, Amber Michaelson, Jeanne Delfs, Cindy Combs and Tina and Melissa Maaske.

Beatrice Johnson
Beatrice Johnson, 79, of Sioux City died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at her residence.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. H.C. McGruder Jr. of Mount Olive Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Johnson was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Richmond, Va., the daughter of Charles and Maude (Pyle) Beasley. She moved with her family to Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1934.

She had lived in Sioux City most of her life, except from 1943 to 1950, when she lived in Kansas City, Mo. In Kansas City she was employed as a window dresser. In Sioux City she was employed with Dixie Shoppes Dress Company, Three Sisters Dress Shop for 30 years until it closed in 1982, and with Younkers for six years.

She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Howard C. Mieras
Howard Charles Mieras, 77, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Friday, April 10, 1998, at his residence.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Klink officiating. Private graveside services will be Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Mieras was born May 14, 1920, in Sioux City, the son of Charles and Florence (Steele) Mieras. He moved with his family to Maurice, Iowa, as a child.

He graduated from Maurice High School and attended welding school in Sioux City. He returned to the farm in Maurice in 1942.

He married Esther R. VanRoekel on June 2, 1948, in Maurice. He continued to farm until 1951, when the couple moved to Sioux City.

In Sioux City he was employed with Goodyear Tire Company and T&W Tire Company and later as a mechanic for the city.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees for many years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Evelyn Ferris of Dallas, Ore., and Dr. Eileen and her husband, Dr. Randy Kohlenberg, of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother, Jason of San Bernadino, Calif.; four sisters, Helen Mieras of Pensacola, Fla., Audrey Lynberg of West Covina, Calif., Nellie Derby of Florissant, Mo., and Rebecca Sirois of San Diego, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Brent, Lisa and William.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marcia Mieras Mahoney.

Pallbearers will be Barry Betsworth, Carmen Bornholtz, Dan Barrett, Mark Wilmes, Tim Rubel and Reno Felecioni.

Memorials may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church.

Harold R. Shelton
Harold R. Shelton, 74, of Everett, Wash., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday at his residence.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Crossroads Snohomish Foursquare Church in Snohomish, Wash. Private burial will be Saturday in Evergreen Cemetery at Everett. Bauer Funeral Chapel of Snohomish is in charge of the arrangements.

Irene J. Rohlfsen

Irene Julia Rohlfsen, 85, of Beresford, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at a Sioux Falls hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford, with the Rev. Robert Hansen officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until service time at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel of Sioux City is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Rohlfsen was born June 2, 1912, near Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Jens and Ida (Abraham) Larson.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended rural schools near Akron and graduated from Beresford High School in 1931.

She attended cosmetology school, business college and classes in operating a lunchroom in Spink, S.D.

She married Ralph F. Rohlfsen on June 21, 1941, in Sioux Falls. The couple resided in Sioux Falls and Sioux City. They operated grocery stores for many years, most recently, Ralph's Normandy Market in Sioux City.

Following their retirement in 1978, they lived in Sun City, Ariz., before returning to Sioux City. He died April 14, 1996. She moved to Beresford in September 1996.

She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Jan and Pat Coughlin of Albuquerque, N.M., and Sharyn and Kimball Udall of Santa Fe, N.M.; a son and his wife, Gary and Diana of Eden Prairie, Minn.; and six grandchildren, Nick, Gina and Patrick Rohlfsen, Kaelen and Hannah Coughlin and Dana Udall.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Michael S. Irwin
Michael Scott Irwin, 28, of Bruton, Ala., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, of injuries suffered in an accident.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Berkemier Funeral Home in Sioux City, with the Rev. Glenn Schacht, pastor of Riverside Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in McCook Cemetery at North Sioux City. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Irwin was born June 2, 1969, in Sioux City, the son of Roger and Lila (Petzoldt) Irwin. He lived with his family in Elk Point, S.D., until 1986 when they moved to Sioux City. He graduated from East High School in 1988.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1988 to 1990, and returned to Sioux City. He moved to Corpus Christie, Texas in 1992, and then to Bruton in 1997, where he was employed with Tom Byrd Tree Service.

Survivors include his parents of Elk Point; two brothers, William of Elk Point and Bradly and his wife, Michelle, of Walthill, Neb.; a sister and her husband, Dawn and Shawn Vogler of Boise, Idaho; and grandparents, George and Georgia Irwin of Elk Point.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Edward and Hazel Petzoldt.

Mildred E. Olberding
ODEBOLT, Iowa - Mildred E. Olberding, 75, of Odebolt died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Odebolt, with the Rev. Allan Reicks officiating. Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary conducted by the Ladies Society at 7 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mrs. Olberding was born Jan. 28, 1923, in Odebolt, the daughter of Albert and Pearl (Dinges) Landgraf. She attended St. Martin's and Sacred Heart Elementary Schools and graduated from the Early, Iowa, high school in 1941.

During World War II she was employed at a defense plant in Des Moines. Later she worked at the Firestone Company in Omaha and then for the Dresselhuis Law Firm in Odebolt until her marriage.

She married Norman Olberding on Sept. 17, 1949, in Odebolt. The couple farmed near Odebolt until retiring and moving into Odebolt.

She was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church, the St. Martin's Ladies Society and the funeral choir.

Survivors include her husband; seven sisters, Dorothy Mae and her husband, Raymond Blass, of Odebolt, Kathleen and her husband, Urban Determan, of Early, Barbara and her husband, Bernard Faber, of Spencer, Iowa, Jean Jackson and Lois and her husband, Roger Kipf, all of Davenport, Iowa, Helen and her husband, Paul Eckerman, of Conrad, Iowa, and Marilyn Fitzgerald of Freemont, Neb.; a brother and his wife, George and Dorothy Landgraf of Odebolt; and her mother-in-law, Dora Oberding of Odebolt.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Mary Ann.

Ann Meendering
SIOUX CENTR, Iowa - Ann Meendering, 92, of Sioux Center died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Valley Manor in Rock Valley, Iowa.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Timothy Meendering and the Rev. Robert Drenten officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Meendering was born July 29, 1905, in Westerlee, Scheemda, the Netherlands, the daughter of Cornelius and Lukkien (Klein) Mooibroek.

She married Bert Meendering on Feb. 9, 1927, in Sellingen, Groningen, the Netherlands. The couple came to the United States in 1927. They had lived in the Sioux Center, Ireton and Sheldon, Iowa, areas.

She was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church and enjoyed knitting and reading.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Cornelia and Harold Jansen of Lakewood, Calif., and Lois and Jim Dirksen of Rock Valley; six sons and their wives, Gary and Theresa of Denver, Colo., Lawrence and Marjorie and Marvin and Ruth, all of Sheldon, Allan and Corleen of Sioux Falls, S.D., Calvin and Nancy of Racine, Wis., and James and Diana of Matlock, Iowa; 38 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Sybesma of Sioux Center; and a brother, Kornelius Mooibroek of Chino, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, John; a grandson, Richard; two sisters; and six brothers.

Pallbearers will be Bob, Matt, Clint, Jim and Josh Meendering and Eric Dirksen.

Bernice G. Johnson
ALTA, Iowa - Bernice Geneva Johnson, 89, of Alta, formerly of Webster City, Iowa, died Tuesday at Buena Vista Manor Care Center in Storm Lake, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Cemetery at Webster City. There will be no visitation.

Leona Roadlander
EVERLY, Iowa - Leona Roadlander, 75, of Everly died Tuesday at her residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at Peterson, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer, Iowa.

Josephine I. DeRaad
CHATSWORTH, Iowa - Josephine I. (Meins) DeRaad, 83, of Chatsworth died unexpectedly Monday at her residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, Iowa. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Eileen Braun
RUSHMORE, Minn. - Eileen Braun, 66, of Rushmore died Tuesday at Luverne Community Hospital in Luverne, Minn.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sibley, Iowa. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery at Little Rock, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Walton, Roste and Vogel Funeral Home in Sibley.

Gladys I. Hussey
NEWELL, Iowa - Gladys Irene Hussey, 97, of Newell, formerly of Albert City, Iowa, died Monday at Good Samaritan Center in Newell following a lengthy illness.
There will be no services. Burial will be at a later date in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery at Storm Lake. Fratzke Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
