Roger William DeMey, 45, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, April 13, 1998, at the McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Services will be at noon Saturday at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City.
Mr. DeMey was born Sept. 22, 1952, in Sioux City. He was raised and attended school in Sioux City. He lived in Denison, Iowa before moving to Sioux Falls.
He married Jonette Gajewski on Nov. 18, 1994, in Sioux Falls. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. He was employed with the YMCA, before working at Hutchinson Technology.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Christine and Jessica, both of Sioux Falls; a son, Jeff of Sioux City; his parents, Shirley and Le Roy DeMey of Sioux City; two brothers, Steven of Sioux City and Lanny of Denison, Iowa; three sisters, Sharon of Sioux Falls, Lisa and Lori, both of Sioux City; and his grandmother, Slyvia Christiansen of Sioux City.
Marie A. Grundman
Marie A. Grundman, 84, of Sioux City died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Congregation Beth Shalom, with spiritual leader Jim Sherman of Congregation Beth Shalom officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Grundman was born May 12, 1913, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Adolf and Sarah (Cohen) Bernat.
She married Joseph Grundman on Aug. 19, 1934. The couple operated the Cherokee Fruit and Grocery Store in Cherokee, Iowa for 25 years. After moving to Sioux City, she was a homemaker. He died Dec. 6, 1994, in Sioux City.
She was a member of Shaare Zion, now Congregation Beth Shalom. She was also a member of Hadassah and Shaare Zion Women's League, now Congregation Beth Shalom Sisterhood.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Rosalie and Kirk Ivener of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Randall, Terry, Jeramy and Tiphany Ivener and Stephanie Liebman; two great-grandchildren; a special friend, Dorothy Lefko; and a niece and nephew.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ida Bernat and Bessie Koshland.
Memorials in her name may be directed to either Hadassah, the Diabetes Association or Congregation Beth Shalom.
Glenda L. Cliff
Glenda L. Cliff, 73, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of South Sioux City, died Tuesday at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rollins Chapel in Platte City, Mo. Burial will be in Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Sally L. Skarnulis
Sally L. Skarnulis, 83, of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Church of the Nativity. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6:30 to 9 p.m., a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Agnes D. Lamoureux
Agnes D. Lamoureux of Sioux City died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Cemetery at Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the Larkin Northside Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lamoureux was born April 2, 1916, in Akron, the daughter of Axel C. and Margaret (Gleason) Bay. She attended Preston Township School, St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Akron High School in 1933.
She married Loyd M. Lamoureux on Aug. 4, 1943, in Victoria, Texas. She was employed with Fishgall Clothing Store in Sioux City for 35 years, retiring in 1980. He died Jan. 7, 1986, in Akron.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and a 50 year member of the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Teresa Court 578.
Survivors include a son and his wife, James and Linda of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Jeanine and Richard Newton of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Nicole, Maggie and James Lamoureux Jr., Kandi and Jenn Newton; two brothers, Jules "Brownie" and his wife Darlene Bay of Sioux City and Phil Bay of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two sisters and their husbands, Claire and Loren Thuringer of South Sioux City and Barbara and Curtis Hansen of Le Mars, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Gene, Donald, Stanley and Paul Bay.
Pallbearers will be Staci Hansen, Jeff Harms, Mike Lamoureux, Shane Benson, Greg and Tim Bay.
Dorothy I. Gamble
Dorothy Irene Gamble, 105, of Sioux City died Tuesday, April 15, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James United Methodist Church, with Dr. Kenneth Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gamble was born March 10, 1893, in Ellendale, N.D., the daughter of George and Julia (Graves) Harvey. She graduated from Ellendale High School and attended two years of Normal School in Ellendale.
She married Richard J. Gamble on March 18, 1916, in Aberdeen, S.D. The couple lived in several towns, where he taught. They moved to Cloverton, Minn. in 1923 and to Sioux City in 1941. She was employed as a practical nurse in some Sioux City homes and at St. Joseph's Hospital. He died in 1981.
She was a member of St. James United Methodsit Church and the Miriam Circle.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Del and Helen of Sioux City; three daughters, Maxine and her husband Kenneth Rice of Cleveland, Ohio, Frances Gamble of Minneapolis, Minn. and Marilyn and her husband Dick Boyce of Anthens, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was peceded in death by two sons, Richard and Lawrence; a daughter, Phyllis Oliver; a grandson, Robert Oliver; a granddauhgter, Suzanne Madison; three sisters; and a brother.
Pallbearers will be Bruce, Scott, Don, Richard and Ronald Gamble, Bill Boyce and David Rice.
Madeline P. Peterson
Madeline P. Peterson, 83, of Sioux City died Wednesday at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Beverly Kopecky
Beverly (Williams) Kopecky, 64, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Linn's Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mina M. Richard
HOSPERS, Iowa - Mina Margaret Richard, 80, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Hospers, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at the McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Lambert Parish in Sioux Falls. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home of Sioux Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Richard was born July 12, 1917, in Hospers, the daughter of Andrew and Henrietta (Koenig) Schellinga. She was raised and attended school in northwestern Iowa.
She married Oscar Lorenzen and the couple lived in Holstein, Iowa. He died in 1944. She then married Maurice Richard on June 20, 1945, in Elk Point, S.D. She assisted him in the trucking business. In 1958, they moved to Sioux Falls, where they built the Speedy Car Wash. She later purchased and managed the Jiffy Car Wash.
They developed a program to hire handicapped youth, which in December 1970, they received the Citation for Meritorious Service from Gov. Kniep and the presidents committe on Employment of the Handicapped. She retired in 1973. He died Nov. 5, 1995.
She enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Maurice and his wife Marla and Michael, all of Sioux Falls; a daughter and her husband, Mary and Phil Cunningham of Hartford, S.D.; two sisters, Elizabeth McCormick of Sioux City and Harriet Fischer of Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by and infant son and two brothers.
Angeline Vermeer
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Angeline Vermeer, 86, of Sioux Center died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at a Sioux Center nursing home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Carl Boersma officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Mrs. Vermeer was born June 15, 1911, in Sioux Center, the daughter of Ring and Minnie (Kosters) Vander Schaaf.
She married Bert J. Vermeer on Feb. 3, 1932, in Sioux Center. He died April 17, 1953.
She was a member of New Life Reformed Church.
Survivors include a son and his wife, James W. and Gert of Sioux Center; three grandchildren, Bradley Vermeer, Cheryl A. Byker and Mary Jo Nyhof; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Rensink of Sioux Center.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Roger Berdel; three brothers, Hein, John and Willie, in infancy, Vander Schaaf; and two sisters, Geraldine Wolfswinkel and Wilmina Vermeer.
John E. Hoffman
IDA GROVE, Iowa - John E. "Jack" Hoffman, 67, of Ida Grove died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove, with the Rev. Andrew Currao officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Visitation will resume from noon until service time Saturday at the church. Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home of Ida Grove is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Hoffman was born March 23, 1931, in Ida Grove, the son of Karl and Ruth (Flanagan) Hoffman. He graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1949. He then farmed with his father.
He married Margaret Kahl on Aug. 19, 1952, in Ida Grove. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Following his discharge, he returned to farming and showing cattle until 1968. He moved into Ida Grove in 1975, where he was employed with Farmland and later with State Farm Insurance until retiring in 1993.
He was a member of the Ida Grove Masonic Lodge, the Shrine and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Keith and Kelly of Ida Grove and Brian and Lori of Germantown, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Kristy, Jennifer, Christopher and Amanda.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Leona M. Enderson
ESTHERVILLE, Iowa - Leona Marginia Enderson, 80, of Estherville died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at the Holy Family Health Services in Estherville.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville, with the Rev. Glenn Bohmer officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
Mrs. Enderson was born Sept. 19, 1917, near Ringsted, Iowa, the daughter of Franklin Wesley and Cecilia Marie (Bogh) Laidig. She attended country school and graduated from Maple Hill High School.
She married George Olaf Enderson Sr. on Dec. 31, 1942, in Omaha, Neb. The couple lived in San Luis Obispo, Calif. during World War II, before moving to Estherville. He died June 16, 1982. She entered the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville in April 1996.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church and enjoyed flowers and reading.
Survivors include four daughters, Frankey DeRaad of Hudson, S.D., Cecilia and her husband Marvin Gerstandt of Paullina, Iowa, Mildred Feldhacker of Askland, Wis. and Mary Jo Henderson of Spencer, Iowa; three sons and their wives, George Jr. and Beverly of Dubuque, Iowa, Ole and Bonnie of Armstrong, Iowa and Tyrone and Lori of Perry, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Laidig of Estherville; and a sister, Edith Huntley of Dolliver, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Robert Van Pelt and Lonny DeRaad; three brothers, Virgil, Arnold and Ernest Laidig; and a sister, Mildred Spellman.
Robert B. Evans
EARLY, Iowa - Robert Burdette Evans, 83, of Early died Tuesday, April 15, 1998, at the Scottsdale Memorial Hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Early, with the Rev. Karl Schiltz officiating. Burial will be prior to the service in Early Union Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Mr. Evans was born Dec. 30, 1914, in Early, the son of Elmer and Clara Evans. He attended Early Public School and graduated from Kemper Military Academy in Boonesville, Mo. He received his bachlors degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1938. He was employed with Evans Construction Company. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
He married Beth Louise Weaver in 1943, at Sioux Falls, S.D. Following his discharge, he returned to Early and the family business, where he worked for 25 years. He then served as executive secretary to the Power and Communications Contractors Association for 14 years.
He was a member of Early United Methodist Church. He served on the board of directors for the Early Savings Bank, the Boy Scouts, as president of the Lions Club and as treasurer of the school board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Jack and Nancy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Craig and Nancy of Chanhassen, Minn.; five grandchildren, Matt, Will, Peter, Seth and Maria; a sister and her husband, Shirley and Don Ward of Sun City West, Ariz.; and a brother and his wife, William and Barbara of Webster City, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to either Early United Methodist Church Endowment Fund or Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
Lena E. Green
BOYDEN, Iowa - Lena Elizabeth Green, 88, died Wedensday, April 15, 1998, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at United Presbyterian Church in Boyden, with the Rev. John Goertz officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Township Cemetery near Boyden. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Boyden.
Mrs. Green was born March 3, 1910, near Boyden, the daughter of Paul and Dora (Sitter) Schreuder. She attended country school and graduated from Boyden High School in 1929.
She married Marvin E. Green on Aug. 27, 1932, in Sisseton, S.D. The couple farmed near Boyden until retiring in 1976. He died June 24, 1981. She moved into Boyden in December 1982. She entered Pleasant Acres in December 1997.
She was a member of United Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Womens Organization. She was active in the farm bureau homemakers and the Sioux Falls Chapter of the Horseless Carriage Club of America. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafts.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Sue Arnold and Charles Falvey of Indianapolis, Ind.; a son and his wife, Jerry and Harriett of Boyden; three granddaughters, Sheila, Shelly and Sue; and two sisters, Cynthia Schuett of Brookings, S.D. and Eunice Vander Burgh of Longview, Texas.
She was preceded in death by a son, Duane; and an infant sister, Elizabeth.

INWOOD, Iowa - Lawrence Berkland, 96, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Inwood, died Wednesday at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church near Inwood. Burial will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home in Inwood.
