Sally L. Skarnulis
Sally L. Skarnulis, 83, of Sioux City died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Church of the Nativity with Monsignor Mich ael Sernett officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Skarnulis was born Feb. 5, 1915, in Hartington, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Barbara (Manley) Riibe. She had lived in Sioux City since 1933.

She married Al V. Skarnulis July 4, 1939, in Hartington. He died July 11, 1983, in Sioux City. She worked for the Biltmore Restaurant, Cudahys, and Morningside College.

She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church and had been a longtime member of St. Casimir Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Mary Kay and Joseph Azara of Sioux City, and Joann and Thomas Imler of Burnsville, Minn.; two sons and their wives, William and Susan Skarnulis of Rochester Hills, Mich., and Patrick and Mary Skarnulis of Highland, Mich.; two brothers, Patrick and Vincent Riibe of Sioux City; a sister, Rita Kirchmeier of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a sister Madeline; and four brothers, Joe, Gene, Michael and Sylvester.

Pallbearers will be Cathy Szafranski, Kim Slaughter, Christy Skarnulis, James Azara, Warren Whitmore, and John Bishop.

John T. Baker Sr.
John T. Baker Sr., 83, of Sioux City died Friday, April 17, 1998, at his son's residence in Hornick, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Shelley Aakre, chaplain of St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Mr. Baker was born April 29, 1914, in Ute, Iowa, the son of Almarine J. and Artie M. (Holt) Baker. He had been a resident of Sioux City for the past 50 years.

He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Sioux City Engineering for several years, until his retirement.

He was a member of Woodbury Woody's Camping Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in South Sioux City. He was also a volunteer with the Goodfellows and the Goodwill.

Survivors include his son, John T. Jr. and his fiancee Rhonda J. Gill of Hornick; three daughters and their husbands, Marylyn J. and Edward Willim III of Vanceburg, Ky., Loretta J. and Dan R. Mathers of Urbandale, Iowa and Jeanette J. and Jack D. Dyball of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Richard H. and Bernita of Sioux City; a sister, Ruby V. Baker of Volga, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Toby", seven brothers and a sister.

Dorothy L. Sager
Dorothy L. Sager, 73, of Sioux City died Sunday; Anderson-Perasso Chapel.

Les Geick
ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - Les Geick, 52, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Rock Rapids, died Saturday at the McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. and a rosary at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Carl T. Reinbold
LAWTON, Iowa - Carl T. Reinbold, 80, of Lawton died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville, Iowa. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m., at the church. McCulloch Funeral Home of Moville is in charge of the arrangements.

Joseph H. Niehus
REMSEN, Iowa - Joseph H. Niehus, 95, of Remsen died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart and Monsignor Nicholas J. Ruba officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. conducted by the Knights of Columbus, all at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mr. Niehus was born Nov. 6, 1902, in rural Petersburg, Iowa, the son of August and Teresa (Osterhaus) Niehus. In 1903, he moved with his family to the Remsen area, where he was raised and educated. He farmed with his father.

He married Rose Beelner on Jan. 26, 1927, in Remsen. The couple farmed near Remsen until retiring and moving into Remsen in 1962. He continued assisting in farming and driving cars for Feller Auto Sales. He entered Happy Siesta in March 1996. She died Dec. 20, 1997.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Esther and Joe Schmitz of Carroll, Iowa, and Carole and Randy Voss of Cherokee, Iowa; a son and his wife, Ronald and Peg of Remsen; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two half sisters, Florence and her husband Clarence Schroeder of Le Mars, Iowa, and Loretta Harpenau of Remsen.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Bunkers, Catherine Loutsch and Clara Loutsch.

Pallbearers will be Steve Niehus, Danny and Doane Schmitz, Todd Smith, Mark Torrence and Brett Voss.

Roger D. Davis
HOMER, Neb. - Roger Dean Davis, 49, of Homer died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at a South Sioux City nursing home following a brief illness and complications suffered in a 1983 motorcycle accident.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Nathan Houfek officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Davis was born Feb. 9, 1949, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Gordon R. and Louella B. (Speake) Davis. He attended Homer High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam War. Before his accident, he was a contract laborer.

Survivors include his son, Roger Eggelton of Ohio; his mother, Louella Boggess of Homer; five brothers, Richard Davis of Mequon, Wis., Larry Davis of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ronald Davis of Sacramento, Calif., Fred Dunn of San Francisco, Calif., and Kenneth Boggess of Homer; and three sisters, Mary Olson of Clarkston, Wash., Betty Scott of Lewiston, Idaho and Julie Pigg of Homer.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Donald.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth and Paul Boggess, Richard, Larry and Ronald Davis and Jeremy Pigg.

Velma Wohlert
HARTLEY, Iowa - Velma Wohlert, 83, of rural Hartley died Saturday at the Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Sutherland, Iowa. Burial will be in Waterman Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Primghar, Iowa.

Leonard Lewis
BLOOMFIELD, Neb. - Leonard Lewis, 87, of Bloomfield died Saturday at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, S.D.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Bloomfield. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Wynot Cemetery at Wynot, Neb., with military rites conducted by the Wynot American Legion Post 31. There will be no visitation. Wintz Funeral Home of Hartington, Neb., is in charge of the arrangements.

Marvin Krogman
KINGSLEY, Iowa - Marvin Krogman, 48, of Kingsley died Saturday of an apparent heart attack.
Services will be in 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Kingsley. Burial will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home of Kingsley is in charge of the arrangements.

Scott Pfaltzgraff
IDA GROVE, Iowa - Scott Pfaltzgraff, 43, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Ida Grove, died of cancer Sunday, April 19, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Redemeer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, with the Rev. Daniel Johnson officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Ida Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Eugene Ernst officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Marshalltown.

Mr. Pfaltzgraff was born May 19, 1954, in Hampton, Iowa, the son of Norman W. and Barbara A. (Folbrecht) Pfaltzgraff. He was raised in the Ida Grove and New Hartford, Iowa, areas. He attended New Hartford Elementary School and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1972. He also graduated from Western Iowa Technical Community College in Ida Grove with an associate degree in carpentry in 1973. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

He married Barbara I. Ernst on Sept. 6, 1975, in Ida Grove. He was employed as an independent construction contractor in Ida Grove for nine years, before working with Payless Cashways in 1982. While at Payless Cashways, he worked in various communities before moving to Marshalltown in 1992. The couple owned and operated the Iowa Lumber Company.

He was a member of Redemeer Lutheran Church, where he served as head elder. He was co-organizer of the Hughes Grove Historical Neighborhood Association and a member of the Rogers Elementary School Improvement Committee. He was also a member of the Marshalltown Zoning Commission, the Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce and was a Marshalltown Little League baseball coach.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rianne Pfaltzgraff of Waverly, Iowa and Sarah Pfaltzgraff of Des Moines; a son, Alex at home; a brother and his wife, Patrick and Amanda of Lincoln, Neb.; three sisters and their husbands, Janet and Craig Limoges of Elk Point, S.D., Teresa and John Schwaller of Sioux City and Mary and Vincent Acevedos of Denison, Iowa; his parents of Ida Grove; his parents-in-law, Raymond and Mildred Ernst of Ida Grove; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Zolene and Gregg Streck and Kathryn and Dale Edsen, all of Ida Grove; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Ernest Steffen, 68, of Moville, Iowa died Sunday; McCulloch Funeral Home of Moville.
