Anita J. Derby
Anita J. Derby, 58, of Winchester, Va., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester.

Mrs. Derby was born Oct. 31, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Julia (Bulinski) Wasson. She married Ray Derby May 22, 1958, in Elk Point, S.D.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Randy and Rick Derby; two daughters, Jackie Shelburne, and Kendra Derby; four grandchildren; a sister, Carlene Seible; two brothers, Harold Wasson, Jr., and Mark Wasson.

James J. Carter
James John "Jay" Carter, 78, of South Sioux City died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Philip J. Olsen, pastor of Tri-State Christian Church, officiating. There will be a flag presentation at the funeral home conducted by the American Legion Post 307. Family graveside services will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was Friday.

Mr. Carter was born June 29, 1919, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of James L. and Pearl A. (Musgrove) Carter. He was raised in South Sioux City and graduated from South Sioux City High School.

He married Mildred F. Fritz on Oct. 4, 1941, in South Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 8th Army Division during World War II as a B-17 pilot. He was employed with Burlington Northern Railroad for 39 years, retiring in 1979. The couple then moved to California and returned to South Sioux City in 1989.

He was a member of Tri-State Christian Church and the American Legion Post 307.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Douglas Jay and Linda K. of South Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Howard and Ruth Carter of Anderson, Calif.; two sisters and their husbands, Vivian and Gene Popejoy of Omaha, Neb. and Tina and Sol Fuss of Fisher, Texas; two grandsons, Rodney J. and Gregory R. Carter; and three great-grandchildren.

Mary Luckritz
Mary Rebecca Luckritz, 83, of Portland, Ore., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday at her home.
Services will be at 1:15 p.m. today at St. Charles Catholic Church in Portland. Burial will be in Willamette National Cemetery. Ross Hollywood Chapel of Portland is in charge of the arrangements.

Susan J. Sheehan
Susan J. Sheehan, 51, of Sioux City died Friday at her home after a long illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sylvia E. Banys
Sylvia E. Banys, 79, of Sioux City died Friday at a Sioux City hospital.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Casimir Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 8:30 p.m. Sunday with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Priscilla J. Lloyd
Priscilla J. Lloyd, 87, of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. There will be no visitation.

William E. Craig
William E. Craig, 74, of Sioux City died Thursday; Berkemier Funeral Home.

Jeanette Post
ROCK VALLEY, Iowa - Jeanette Henrietta Post, 82, of Rock Valley died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley with the Rev. John den Hoed officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Post was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Rock Valley, the daughter of Evert and Fannie (Eenkhoren) Driesen. She married Dick Post Oct. 17, 1939, in Rock Valley. She was a housewife while he farmed near Rock Valley until retirement.

Survivors include her husband; two sons and their wives, Arnold and Janice, and Edwin and Alma, all of Rock Valley; a daughter and her husband, Donna Jean and Gib Rus of Rock Valley; seven gradnchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John E. Driesen; and two sisters, Tillie Maassen and Rolena Van Grootheest.

Mary E. Getting
MATLOCK, Iowa - Mary E. Getting, 80, of Matlock died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheldon. Burial will be in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 7 p.m. and a Scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m. at Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

Gertrude Bos
INWOOD, Iowa - Gertrude Bos, 81, of Inwood, died Thursday at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Reformed Church in Inwood. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday with the family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Inwood.

George Shuck
ONAWA, Iowa - George Shuck, 82, of Onawa died Friday at Elmwood Care Center in Onawa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Onawa. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Winifred Pratt
SPENCER, Iowa - Winifred Pratt, 68, of Spencer died Friday at Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. today with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Bruce E. Compton
NEWELL, Iowa - Bruce E. Compton, 77, of Newell, formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at Good Samaritan Center in Newell.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Silver Creek Methodist Church in rural Galva, Iowa with the Rev. Roger Maize, the Rev. Arlyn Coalter, and the Rev. Ronald Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors by the Galva American Legion will be in Galva Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Compton was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Battle Creek, Iowa, the son of Ross and Margaret (McGeachy) Compton. He graduated from Ida Grove High School. He married Marjorie V. Coalter Feb. 14, 1946, in Silver Creek Methodist Church in rural Galva. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force, 370th Fighter Squadron in England during World War II.

He farmed for many years in Ida and Sac (Iowa) counties. He moved to Storm Lake in 1976, where he was employed by Consumers Supply Corporation for 15 years. He also worked as a school bus driver for Schaller Schools and volunteered at the United Methodist Church Daycare Center in Storm Lake. He was a member of the Silver Creek Methodist Church Ben Hur Masonic Lodge #611 in Arthur, Iowa, the Galva American Legion in Galva, and the Alta V.F.W. in Alta, Iowa.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Bryan and Helen of Liberty, Mo.; two grandchildren, Nick and Lindsey McLean; a sister and her husband, Dawn and Clarence Etler of Odebolt, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Robert and Frances of Quimby, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Tessie Carlberg of Storm Lake, and Elizabeth Harder of Galva; two brothers-in-law, James Coalter and his wife, Persis, of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Gilbert Guenther of Britt, Iowa; three cousins; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife in 1990.
