Susan J. Sheehan
Susan J. Sheehan, 51, of Sioux City died Friday April 24, 1998, at her home after a long illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. G.J. Frahm officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sheehan was born March 24, 1947, in Sioux City, the daughter of Charles and Jacqueline (Fleming) Miles. She married John S. Sheehan Aug. 12, 1978, in Sioux City. She was a beautician for several years and had worked at K-Mart for four years. She was a member of TOPS.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Larry and Stacie Henderson of Sioux City; a daughter, Michele Henderson-DeBerardino and her husband, John DeBerardino, of Norwalk, Conn.; two brothers and their wives, Charlie and Nancy Miles, Jr. and Paul and Judy Mersch, all of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Julie and Ron Howard, of Sioux City; a grandson, Maxwell Dean Henderson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers will be George Houts, Michael Wiley, Ronald Howard, Jr., Bill Myers, John L. Sheehan, and Vernon John Yates.

Priscilla J. Lloyd
Priscilla J. Lloyd, 87, of Sioux City died Thursday April 23, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Allin officiating. There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Lloyd was born Oct. 4, 1910, in Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Samuel and Kathryn (Beninghoff) Bolshaw. The family moved to Sioux City in 1921. She graduated from Central High School and attended Morningside College. In 1939, she moved to Omaha, Neb. She married Glen Lloyd on Feb. 11, 1939, in Lincoln. In 1950 they moved to Sioux City where they established Lloyd and Myers Prescription Shop. In 1963, they founded Medco Lab Inc.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Rose Croix Chapter #400 Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Abu Bekr Shrine Auxiliary, Sioux City Boat Club, and the Sioux City Country Club.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Dennis Nebbe of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Carver, Nathan, and Charity.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John Bolshaw; and a sister, Kathryn Neal.

Memorials may be given in her name to Hospice of Siouxland.

Sylvia E. Banys
Sylvia E. Banys, 79, of Sioux City died Friday, April 24, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Casimir Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul-Louis Arts officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 8:30 p.m. today with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Mrs. Banys was born Aug. 20, 1918, in Hudson, S.D., the daughter of John J.and Mamie E. (Nelson) Sypersma. She was raised in Hudson before moving to Bronson, Iowa in 1939, and Sioux City in 1943. She married Frank C. Banys, Sr., Jan. 21, 1943, in Sioux City. He died Feb. 7, 1988 in Sioux City. She had worked for several Sioux City packing plants and also worked on the family farm. She was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Frank C. Jr. and Mary Ann, of Sioux City; three sisters, Rachel "Idella" Sypersma, and Hilda Wingert, both of Sioux City, and Ann Miller of San Diego, Calif.; two brother and their wives, Harold and Margaret Sypersma and Julius and Barbara Sypersma all of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Tom Banys, Dan Greeny, Jr., and Shana Butcher; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Sylvia Francis, and Shirley Greeny; two sisters, Alice Johnson, and Rosie Sypersma; and three brothers, Charles, John L., and Walter Sypersma.

Pallbearers will be Jeff, Matt, and Kurt Sypersma, Harold Sypersma, Jr., Steve Banys, and Chris Wingert.

Vincent W. Riibe
Vincent W. Riibe, 76, of Sioux City died Friday, April 24, 1998, at his home.
Services will be private. Burial will be in St. Michaels Cemetery in Hartly, Neb. There will be no visitation. Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Riibe was born March 13, 1922, in Hartly, the son of Frank and Barbara (Manley) Riibe. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School in Hartington, Neb. He lived in Sioux City from 1939 to 1961 and in Inglewood, Calif. from 1961 to 1988, before returning to Sioux City. He had served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1946. He was self-employed as an electrical repairman.

Survivors include a sister, Rita Kirchmeier of Sioux City; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Joe, Gene, Patrick, Michael, and Sylvester; and two sisters, Sally Skarnulis and Madalene Jueden.

Marsh Rumsey, Jr.
Marsh A. Rumsey, Jr., 83, of Sioux City died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Larkin Northside Funeral Home. The body will be cremated following the visitation.

Wiilliam E. Craig
William E. Craig, 74, of Sioux City died Thursday at a local care center following a brief illness.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. Monday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Berkemier Funeral Home.

Hartley O. Parker
Hartley O. Parker, 73, of Sioux City died Saturday; Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Basil V. Jones
CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa - Basil Vinton Jones, 86, of Plainfield, Iowa, formerly of Correctionville, died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at Waverly Municipal Hospital in Waverly, Iowa.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Correctionville Cemetery in Correctionville with Kennth Barker officiating. Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home of Nashua, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Jones was born Nov. 30, 1911, in Correctionville, the son of Albert and Katherine (Lake) Jones. He attended school in the Correctionville area, graduating from Correctionville High School in 1930. He was married to Ida Mae Barker. He married Ruth Clark April 28, 1970, and the couple moved to Plainfield, Iowa. She died in 1982. He married Leone Hartzell Feb. 4, 1984. He farmed in the Correctionville area most of his life, retiring in 1965. He also worked for a time at the Co-op Elevator and as a school bus driver for the Correctionville Schools.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Plainfield. Fishing, gardening, and working crossword puzzles were among his favorite pastimes.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Judy Jones and Jim Groenwold of Sioux City.

Mary E. Getting
MATLOCK, Iowa - Mary E. Getting, 80, of Matlock died Thursday April 23, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheldon with the Rev. John McGuirk officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. today with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 7 p.m. and a Scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m. at Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

Mrs Getting was born Oct. 8, 1917, in Bancroft, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Froehle) Schemmel. She graduated from St. John's High School in 1935, and then moved with her parents to Matlock, Iowa in 1938, where she helped with the family business. She married Orie Getting on Sept. 8, 1941, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheldon. They moved to the Getting family farm where they lived until 1970 when they retired to Matlock. She was a member of the Matlock Senior Citizen's Club, served on the Matlock City Council and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Ladies Guild. She was also active in the missionary. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and babysitting. He died Sept. 13, 1997.

Survivors include four daughters, Shirley and her husband, Paul Stensland of Sioux City, Karen French of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Judy and her husband, Roger DeJean, of Huron, S.D., and Joyce and her husband, Jon Gapa, of Grand Island, Neb.; three sons and their wives, Dennis and, Elaine, and Ed and Susan, all of George, and Jim and Debbi of Topeka, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Arthur.

Mary T. Kneip
OYENS, Iowa - Mary T. Kneip, 65, of Oyens, died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, following a lengthy illness.
Servics will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens with the Rev. Randy Schon officiating. Burial wil be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m. at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mrs. Kneip was born April 9, 1933, in Le Mars, the daughter of Roy M. and Viola T. (Fisch) Kelly. She grew up in Oyens and received her elementary education at St. Catherine's Catholic School. She later graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School in Le Mars. She married Loren Kneip on Sept. 9, 1952, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens. The couple farmed for several years west of Oyens and in 1963 moved into Oyens. He died May 11, 1995.

She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, the Church Guild and the church choir.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Plendl of Le Mars; a son, John Kneip of Oyens; two grandchildren, Kyle and Erika Plendl; a sister and her husband, Norma and Marv Dominick of Audubon, Iowa; three brothers and their wives, Eldon and Phyllis Kelly of Tucson, Ariz., Ron and Mary Ann Kelly of Le Mars, and George and Britta Kelly of Arvada, Colo; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy Cook.

George Shuck
ONAWA, Iowa - George Shuck, 82, of Onawa died Friday April 24, 1998, at Elmwood Care Center in Onawa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Onawa with the Rev. David H. Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mr. Shuck was born July 4, 1915, in Sioux City, the son of John and Olga (Cherkas) Shuck. He attended Sioux City schools, graduating from Central High School in 1933. He married Irene L. Stephan May 5, 1940, in the Russian Orthodox Church in Sioux City. He was employed by the Swift and Armour packing companies for several years. In 1956, the couple moved to Onawa where he established George's Shoe Store.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Onawa where he served on the Baord of Trustees and was a longtime choir member. He was Cub Master for three years in Sioux City and Cub Master in Onawa for one year.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gregory of Onawa, Gary of Millington, Tenn., and George L. and his wife, Deb, of Kansas City; two grandchildren, Sarah and Evan; one great-grandson; and a brother and his wife, Paul and Cleo of Milford, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe; and an infant sister.

Doris Lubben
HAWARDEN, Iowa - Doris Lubben, 74, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of the Hawarden and Akron, Iowa areas, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Burial will be in Gracehill Cemetery in Hawarden. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.

Mrs. Lubben was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Union County, S.D. She received her education at Higgins School in rural Alcester, S.D. She married Harold Lubben March 22, 1950, in Hawarden. The couple farmed in the Hawarden and Akron area for several years until they moved to Sioux Falls in 1972. She was currently the housekeeping supervisor at Bethany Nursing Home where she had been employed for the past 20 years.

Survivors include three daughters, JoAnn Quigley and Sandra and her husband, Paul Wyatt, all of Sioux Falls, and Glenda and her husband, Michael Hernandez of St. Paul, Minn.; and four grandchildren.

Richard Hayes
LYONS, Neb. - Richard Dean Hayes, 63, of Lyons died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Pender Hospital in Pender, Neb.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Lyons with the Rev. Kirk Erwin officiating. Burial will be in the Lyons Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Piper Funeral Home in Lyons, 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, and noon until the time of the service Monday at the church.

Mr. Hayes was born March 17, 1935, on the family farm in rural Decatur, Neb., the son of Robert and Dorothy (Kempcke) Hayes. He was baptized at First Presbyterian Church in Lyons. He attended rural School District #20. He married Colleen McManigal Feb. 27, 1959, at Homer Memorial United Methodist Church in Homer, Neb. He was a truck driver, working first for Beldon Redding in Lyons and retiring three weeks ago after 24 years of employment with IBP.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Allen Dean and Jill of Sycamore, Ill, and Ricky Lee and Kim of Spirit Lake, Iowa; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Hayes of Lincoln, Neb.; four grandchildren, Tyler Ann, Jami Elizabeth, Teesha Kalena, and Chance-Michael; his mother; eight sisters, Betty Peck of Hooper, Neb., Peggy Goetzinger of Boone, Neb., Marilyn Whitsell of Topeka, Kan., Karen and Bonnie Hayes of Lyons, Patty Maxwell of Webster, Wis., Nancy Hayes of Decatur, and Ginny Hemphill of Staplehurst, Neb.; three brothers, Bob of Dakota City, Russel of Dallas, Texas, and Larry of Lyons; a sister-in-law, Connie Hayes; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Mark Sunderman, Nicholas Hayes, Daryle Lahrs, Duane Lahrs, Kevin McManigal, Michael Rowe, Scott McManagal, and Jason Reese.

John Weaver
INWOOD, Iowa - John Weaver, 82, of Inwood died Friday at Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at First Reformed Church in Inwood. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery. Visitation will be today with the family present from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Inwood.

Levon Dotson
LANGDON, Iowa - Levon Dotson, 81, of Langdon died Friday at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Warner Funeral Chapel in Spencer, Iowa. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Langdon. Visitation wil begin at 2 p.m. today with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Donald Bornhoft
WESTSIDE, Iowa - Donald Bornhoft, 77, of Westside died Friday at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Vail, Iowa. Burial will be in Westside Cemetery in Westside. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday with a Legion of Mary rosary at 4 p.m. and a wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa.

Rex W. Whitney
AURELIA, Iowa - Rex William Whitney, 81, of Aurelia died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia with the Rev. David Renfro officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the Wharton-Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.

Mr. Whitney was born June 8, 1916, in Peterson, Iowa, the son of Roy S. and Pearl (Coombs) Whitney. A great-grandson of one of Aurelia's founding fathers, he lived in Peterson and attended Peterson School until his teen years when the family moved to Aurelia. He graduated from Aurelia High School in 1933 and later attended the University of Minnesota and Capitol City Commercial College. He married Lelia Honsbruch April 6, 1941, in Aurelia. He worked at Whitney Grain Elevator, owned and operated Whitney Hardware, and later worked for State of Iowa Employment Services until his retirement. He was active in the community having served on the Aurelia School Board, Aurelia Library Board, the Board of Directors of People's Telephone Company, and was a charter member of the Cherokee County Conservation Board which was involved with acquiring Martin's Access and other Cherokee County (Iowa) parks. He had also been a member of the Board of Directors of First Trust and Savings Bank for nearly 40 years, having served as president for a number of those years.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia and served on several church boards. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, gardening, and sports.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Douglas Whitney and Nancy Engler of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dan and Janet Whitney of Aurelia; a daughter, June Whitney of St. Paul, Minn.; six grandchildren, Rhonda Fraser, Aaron Whitney, April Oertwig, Shaun Oertwig, Jon Whitney, and David Whitney; a sister and her husband, Lois and John Christensen of Spirit Lake, Iowa; two aunts; and several nieces and nephews.
