Thomas G. Goodwin
Thomas G. Goodwin, 64, of Sioux City died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bert Burwell officiating. Private family burial was held earlier in Banner Township Cemetery at Lawton, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Berkemier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Goodwin was born Sept. 30, 1933, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Glen and Irene (Burgen) Goodwin. He moved with his family to Spencer when he was a child and raised there. He served in the U.S. Army with the 245th Tank Battalion in Japan and Korea, and with the 4th Infantry Division and the 2nd Armour Division in Germany. Following his discharge, he returned to Spencer.
He married Shirley Holmburg on July 15, 1961, in Worthington, Minn. The couple moved to the Sioux City area in 1966. He was employed as a foreman with Nebraska Steel Erection Company, retiring in 1982. She died in June 1973. He then married Florence "Flo" Pranke on April 15, 1976, in Elk Point, S.D.
He was a former member of the Ironworkers Union 184.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Rhonda and her husband Mark Meylor and Paulette Allen, all of Sioux City, Virginia Kappler and Cynthia Goodwin and her husband Rick Van Order, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sons and their wives, Michael and Rita Timblin, Kenneth and Maurine Timblin and Jeffrey and Rita Timblin, all of Sioux City; three adopted children, Neal Kappler, Deborah Price and Cindy Barnes; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack and his wife Barb of Lawton and Mike of Phoenix; two sisters, Pat Kringle and Grace and her husband Skip Wilcox, all of Spencer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry; and a brother, James.
John P. Peterson
John Pete Peterson, 88, of Sioux City died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Marvin Boes officiating. Burial will be at a later date. There will be no visitation. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Peterson was born Sept. 7, 1909, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Peter H. and Charlotta E. (Campbell) Peterson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Freda Gunther Hoffman of Cherokee, Iowa, on Aug. 31, 1934. She died in 1978. He married Viola Lewis on April 24, 1982, in Sioux City. He was employed with Galinsky Produce and then retired from Loe's Market in Sioux City in the 1980s.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, The Boys of 68 and the American Legion Monahan Post 64, where he was post commander. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and horses.
Survivors include his wife; four stepsons, Douglas and Clark Lewis, both of Sioux City, Jay Lewis and his wife Cheryl of Gothenberg, Neb. and Steve Lewis and his wife Allyson of Colorado; a brother and his wife, Henry G. and Dorothy of Hawarden, Iowa; a nephew; two grandnieces; two grandnephews; 11 stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Freda A. Kazos
Freda A. Kazos, 85, of Sioux City died Monday, March 30, 1994, in Marshalltown, Iowa following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Evangelos S. Pepps, pastor of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Kazos was born Oct. 2, 1912, in Sioux City, the daughter of Edward J. and Hilda (Saair) Anglo.She graduated from East High School in 1931.
She married Nichloas D. Kazos on Nov. 14, 1939, in Duluth, Minn. The couple owned and operated restuarants in the Siouxland area. He died May 17, 1966, in Sioux City.
She attended Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
Survivors include eight nephews, Marvin Christensen of Palatine, Ill., Ronald Christensen of Eldora, Iowa, Edward Christensen of Shadow Hills, Calif., James Christensen of Cottage Grove, Minn., Richard Christensen of Marshalltown, Iowa, Edward and Robert Anglo of Twin Cities, Minn. and Thomas Anglo of Orange, Calif.; and two nieces, Sharon Hutchinson of Brainerd, Minn. and Suzanne Anglo of Twin Cities, Minn.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Anglo; and sister, Angeline Christensen; and a niece.
Arthur W. Bollinger
Arthur W. "Art" Bollinger, 84, of Sioux City died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at the Westwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. James Bruch, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Bollinger was born June 3, 1913, in Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Victor and Minnie (Marbet) Bollinger. He graduated from Hinton (Iowa) High School. He farmed in the Plymouth County area, raising cattle and Belgium horses.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include a nephew, Emlin Gruenerfeldt of Montana; 12 grandnieces and grandnephews; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Marion and James Poulosky of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter; and three sisters, Madeline, Alma and Mabel.
Robert Acero
Robert Acero, 28, of New York City, formerly of South Sioux City, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at a New York City hospital of injuries suffered in a fall.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, with a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.
Mr. Acero was born March 18, 1970, in Raymondville, Texas, the son of Jose and Teresa (Lopez) Acero. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1988. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb. He moved to New York in 1990, where he was employed with Garrend of New York and was pursuing a career in modeling.
He was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity.
Survivors include his parents of South Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Ann Acero and Steve Stone of Sioux City; his grandmother, Ramona Garcia of Kingsville, Texas; two nephews; and a niece.
He was preceded in death by a grandmother and two grandfathers.
Pallbearers will be Shane and Chad Hartnett, Tony Lopez, Greg Brostad, Steve Stone and Scott Prenger.
Claude A. McAlpine
Claude A. McAlpine, 77, of Sioux City died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William H. Steward and the Rev. Sheryl Ashley officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Morningside Post 697. Visitation will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.
Mr. McAlpine was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Schuyler, Neb., the son of Lester and Iva (Shaw) McAlpine. He was raised in Schuyler and lived in Omaha, Neb., a few years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He lived in Grand Island, Neb. from 1947 to 1954, when he moved to Sioux City.
He married Arby June Browning on Aug. 10, 1956, in Elk Point, S.D. He was employed with Fairmont Foods in Grand Island and transferred to Sioux City. He then was employed with Metz Bakery for 27 years. He worked for the Baker Union Local 433 for three years.
He served as the Union Steward at Metz Bakery for 17 years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Charline F. Lange of North Platte, Neb., Nancy and her husband Jim Mitchell of Ventura, Calif., Susan and her husband Dell Wicker and Deanna and her husband Rick Merchant, all of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Pete and Joyce of Wood River, Neb. and Allen and Janet of Eagen, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother and his wife, Robert and Blanche of Coos Bay, Ore.; and three sisters, Claudia Petersen of Colorado Springs, Colo., Charlotte and her husband Bud Jenny of Blair, Neb. and Leila Veleba of North Loup, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harry and Glen; and two sisters, Maxine and Lesta.
Dolores J. Hilton
Dolores Jean Hilton, 55, of South Sioux City died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the University Hospital in Omaha, Neb. following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Terry Tomlinson officiating. Visitation with the family will be after 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.
Miss Hilton was born April 14, 1942, in Wichita, Kan., the daughter of Roy E. and Joye F. (Russell) Hilton. She was raised in Downey, Calif., and moved to South Sioux City in 1962. She was employed as a secretary for Denver Midwest Trucking Company for 10 years. She graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1985. She was employed at Marian Health Center in adult psychological care.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Women's Transportation Club.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Joye Lynn and David Cuthrell of East Lansing, Mich.; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Peggy Hilton of Elk Point, S.D. and Donald and Rhonda Hilton of South Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Linda and Gary Backman of Omaha; the aunts; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials in her name have been established with St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Liver Transplant Organ Fund at the University of Nebraska in Omaha.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present at 7 p.m., at the Bolin Funeral Home in Little Rock.

SALIX, Iowa - Gertrude E. Schilling, 88, of Bloomington, Minn., formerly of Salix and Whiting, Iowa, died Wednesday at the Minnesota Masonic Home in Bloomington.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at the church. Wood Funeral Home of Sloan, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.
Clarence Scott
MOVILLE, Iowa - Clarence "Cal" Scott, 66, of Moville died Sunday, March 29, 1998, in Sioux City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Moville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harold E. Werley officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the McCulloch Funeral Home in Moville.
Mr. Scott was born June 7, 1931, in Salem, S.D., the son of Renold and Clara (Graese) Schat. He moved with his family to Maurice, Iowa as a young boy and graduated from Maurice High School in 1951. He then moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. In the late 1950s, he moved to the Sioux City area.
He married Mary Aylene Bartels Bring on June 22, 1978, in Laurel, Neb. The couple moved to Moville in 1978. He was employed in road construction following graduation from high school. He then was a salesman for Roberts Dairy from 1965 to 1980 and then a operator technician for Terra Chemical.
He was a member of Moville United Methodist Church and the Meadows Golf Club. He enjoyed gardening, collecting tractors and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters and their husbands, Pamela and Brian Newberg of Colorado Springs, Colo., Patti and Dave Christiansen of Moville and Carol and Dave Hall of Lincoln, Neb.; two sons and their wives, Charles and Marion of Sedro Woolley, Wash., and Richard and Lori of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Phyllis Schat of Lake Mills, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Ralph and Joyce Schat of Rapid City, S.D.; 18 grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Tyler, Katie, Zachary, Tami, Josiah, Caleb, Cody, Colin, Kyler, Matthew, Kristin, Cole, Christopher, Lindsey, Amber and Alec; and four stepchildren, Laurelee and Kimberlee of Moville and Melissa and Dana of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant daughter, Kathy; and an infant brother, Eugene.
Rita K. Green
PRIMGHAR, Iowa - Rita K. Green, 48, of Primghar died Monday at her residence.
Services were held Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Primghar. Burial will be at a later date in Evansville, Ind.
