Rolland A. Line
Rolland a. Line, 93, of Cheshire, Conn., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center, West Campus in Cheshire.
Services were held Thursday, April 2, in Countrywood, Ill. Alderson Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Cheshire was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Line was born Aug. 12, 1904, in Sioux City, the son of Alvan E. and Fannie (Kellogg) Line. He was employed in the advertising field with Swift and Company for over 25 years. Retiring from Swift. He moved to Cheshire in 1991.
He was a member of Immanuel Episcopal Church, the Sons of the American Revolution and a Mason.
Survivors inlcude a daughter and her husband, Priscilla and Donald Batty of Cheshire; a brother, Alvan Line of St. Paul, Minn.; a sister, Marian Hillier of St. Augustine, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Peter's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund in Cheshire.
Pauline D. Luebben
Pauline D. (Sohn) Luebben, 83, of rural South Sioux City died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, with the family present after 6:30 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.
Constance I. Baker
Constance I. Baker, 70, of Sergeant Bluff died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jon Gerets, associate pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be in Little Sioux Lutheran Cemetery at Milford, Iowa, with the Rev. Dr. Ray J. Miller, pastor of Little Sioux Lutheran Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. officiated by the Rev. Donohue Sarff, associate pastor of Morningside Lutheran Church, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Baker was born June 28, 1927, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Eldo H. and Isabelle (Thomas) Baack. She attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.
She married Robert H. Baker in December 1943. The couple was later divorced. She resided in Merrill, Iowa from 1942 to 1997, and moved to Sergeant Bluff. She was employed as a traffic manager at KMEG for 18 years, Upon retirement from KMEG, she worked part time for Walmart in Le Mars.
She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, where she was a past president. She had been active in the Cub Scouts and Brownies. She enjoyed sewing and crafts.
Survivors include nine children, Randy and his wife Kathy of Shelbyville, Ind., Sandy and her husband Ed Burkhart of Smithland, Iowa, Roberta Trometer of Boston, Mass., Rita Baker of Vancouver, Wash., Judi and her husband Leonard Etheridge of Atlanta, Ga., Francis and his wife Nancy and Tom and his wife Kristi, all of Sioux City, Tod and his wife Brenda of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Jamie and her husband Bill Duerksen of Sergeant Bluff; two sisters, Oina and her husband Wayne Vanderfeen of Ireton, Iowa and Patricia Tammen of Farmer City, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband; two infant sons, Rodney and Ricky; an infant daughter; a son-in-law, Eldon Trometer; and two brothers, Orville and Emory Baack.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Craig and Thomas Baker, Daniel Burkhart, Monty and Morgan Daniels and Joey Neville.
Richard M. Evans
Richard M. Evans, 64, of Casselberry, Fla., formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, March 30, 1998, in Chicago, Ill., following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. William H. Steward, pastor at Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs, Iowa, with military rites. Visitation will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Evans was born Aug. 8, 1933, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Marlowe and Dorothy (Toft) Evans. He graduated from Morningside College in 1959 and received his educational degree from Northern Illinois University in 1968. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and flew helicopters in Japan. He was in command of the largest formal school in the Marine Corps, the Marine Corps Communication Electronics School.
He married Marilyn Haddock on June 1, 1958, in Hornick, Iowa. She died in 1978, in Sioux City.
Following his military career and college, he lived in Chicago for seven years and moved to Houston, Texas for two years. He moved to Sioux City in 1971 and to Twenty Nine Palms, Calif. in 1979. He moved to Orlando, Fla., then to Carmel and Monteray, Calif. He retired in 1994 and moved back to Orlando.
He flew helicopters for Chicago Helicopter Airways. He taught Educational Psychology at the University of Houston, the University of Northern Illinois and was a professor at Mornigside College for eight years, where he received the Teacher of the Year award in 1977. He worked for the Marine Corps and the Department of Defense for eight years at Twenty Nine Palms, Orlando and Monteray. He was a visiting professor at the U.S. Navel Academy. Most recently, he was the director of Public Relations for the Orlando Symphony Orchestra.
He was a member of the University Unitarian Universalist Church in Orlando.
Survivors include a son, Jay Bruce of Evanston, Ill.; a daughter and her husband, Gwendoyn "Wendy" Evans and Larry Glazier of Evanston; his mother of Sioux City; a sister, Janet Riley of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and a brother, Fred C. Evans of Bonn, Germany.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorials in his name may be directed in care of the family.
Alice Peterson
Alice Peterson, 81, of West Des Moines, formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. James United Methodist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Kenneth Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.
Mrs. Peterson was born Sept. 9, 1916, in Wagner, S.D., the daughter of Louise and Mabel (Smith) Anderson. She graduated from Wagner High School and attended nurses training in Sioux City.
She married Ralph Andrew Peterson on June 30, 1938, in Wagner. He died April 11, 1983, in Sioux City. She was employed with Coast to Coast Hardwares Stores, retiring in the late 1970s. She moved to West Des Moines in 1987.
She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara and her husband Gary Twyford of Cordova, Tenn. and Carol Stock of West Des Moines; two sons and their wives, Dale and Kathy of Sioux Falls, S.D. and John and Kathy of Aurora, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-granchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Allan and a brother, Newill Anderson.

Joyce V. Williams, 73, of Sioux City died Thursday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Edward Ladd
ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - Edward Earl Ladd, 76, of Rock Rapids died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Congregational United Church of Christ in Rock Rapids, with the Rev. Brian Fertig officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., at the Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.
Mr. Ladd was born May 4, 1921, in Rock Rapids, the son of Earl and Minnie (Serck) Ladd. He was raised in rural Rock Rapids and graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1939. He was employed near Cumberland, Wis., where he cut and trimmed trees. He later moved to Kansas City, Mo., where he worked in an airplane factory. He served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator for four years, stationed near the India-China border, during World War II.
He married Eleanor Dykhouse on Jan. 16, 1949, in Rock Rapids. The couple moved to the Ladd family farm. In 1971, he was honored by Wallace Farmer magazine as "Master Farmer of Iowa."
He was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ, the Rock Rapids Kiwanis Club, Border Lodge 406 A.F. & A.M., the Eastern Star, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Abu Bekr Shrine in Sioux City and the Scottish Rite in Sioux City. He enjoyed flying his own plane.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Robert and Brynn of Bogata, Columbia; a daughter and her husband, Barbara Ladd and Dan McNamara of Cumberland, Wis.; six grandchildren; a sister, Alice Shannon of Marshall, Texas; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Dykhouse; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Louise Benz.
Roy Kneifl
HARTINGTON, Neb. - Roy Kneifl, 84, of Hartington died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, S.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington, with the Rev. William Sanderson officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a rosaries at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 8 p.m., at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Mr. Kneifl was born Dec. 24, 1913, in Newcastle, Neb., the son of Matthew and Madeline (Dreesen) Kneifl. He moved with his family to Hartington in 1924 and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1932.
He married Rose Beacom on May 29, 1939 in Hartington. He was employed as a truck driver with Dreesen Trucking. He worked for Gambles and then began working for the Hartington Dairy in 1958. He purchased the Dairy in 1970, retiring in 1977. She died Oct. 15, 1996.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Hartington Golf League.
Survivors include five daughters and their husbands, Judy and Albert Schrader III of Lincoln, Neb., Pam and Robert Nissen of Fordyce, Neb., Mary and Paul Hoesing of Ponca, Neb., Denise and Gerald Koch and Margaret and Kelly Pick, all of Norfolk, Neb.; three sons and their wives, Bob and Diane of Fordyce, Steve and Kathy of Fremont, Neb. and Ken and LaDonna of Hartington; 24 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert of Crowley, Texas and Don of Broomfield, Colo.; and a sister and her husband, Bonnie and Marvin Becker of Norfolk, Neb.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas; and a brother, Mose.
Pallbearers will be Matt Hoesing, Bob Koch, Allen Schrader, Jeremy, Craig and Ryan Kneifl, Chris Pick and Robert Nissen.
William A. Teply
ELK POINT, S.D. - William A. "Bill" Teply, 38, of Littleton, Colo., formerly of Elk Point, died suddenly Monday, March 23, 1998, at his residence of heart disease.
Services were held March 28, at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Littleton, with the Rev. Dr. Harvey Martz and the Rev. Jim Luallen officiating. The body was cremated.
Nellie Middendorp
HULL, Iowa - Nellie Middendorp, 66, of Hull died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at her residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, Iowa, with the Rev. John Den Hoed officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Middendorp was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Sioux Center, the daughter of Mass and Hermina (Zomermaand) Van Beek.
She married William Meddendorp on Dec. 20, 1950, in Maurice, Iowa. She was employed with Boyden-Hull Schools for 28 years.
She was a member of Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley, Iowa.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Jerry and Pattie of Fargo, N.D. and Wilmer and Donna of Platte, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister and her husband, Gert and Dick Burgers of Doon, Iowa; and a brother and his wife, Egbert and JoAnn Van Beek of Sioux Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a son, Marvin.
Pallbearers will be Gus, Bill, Matthew, Bob and Michael Middendorp.

DENISON, Iowa - Kenneth Hutchinson, 80, of rural Denison died Wednesday at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Neb.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Presbyterian Church in Vail, Iowa. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at Denison. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison.
Malinda Pyle
HOLSTEIN, Iowa - Malinda "Linda" Pyle, 91, of Holstein died Thursday at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa.
Private graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Schaller Cemetery in Schaller, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.
Mandy M. Huseman
LAWTON, Iowa - Mandy Marie Huseman, infant daughter of Michael and Eva Huseman of Lawton, was stillborn Tuesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Banner Township Cemetery at Lawton. Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home of Kingsley, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

VERMILLION, S.D. - Andrew F. Kryger, 85, of Hawarden, Iowa, formerly of Vermillion, died Wednesday at the Hass Hillcrest Nursing Home in Hawarden.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion, S.D. Burial will be in St. Johns Catholic Cemetery at Lesterville, S.D. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday until service time at the church. Hansen Funeral Home of Vermillion is in charge of the arrangements.
Ruth Nelson
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Ruth Nelson, 94, of Cherokee died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Ray Kruger officiating. The body was cremated. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Greenwood Funeral Home of Cherokee is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Nelson was born Nov. 10, 1903, in Peterson, Iowa, the daughter of Alonzo W. and Marisn (Dunn) Jones. She attended school in Peterson and graduated from Peterson High School. She later received her bachlors degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. She studied music and preformed in New York and Germany.
She married Joe G. Nelson on Sept. 7, 1935, in Cherokee. He died Oct. 3, 1986.
She was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, the P.E.O. and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Nelson Miller of Forest Lake, Minn.; three sons and their wives, Thomas J. and Karen of Cherokee, Dr. James A. and Kate of Seattle, Wash. and David J. and Jean of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Heaps-Nelson of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death a son, George Heaps-Nelson; and a brother, Robert V. Jones.
LeRoy E. Pingel
SUTHERLAND, Iowa - LeRoy E. Pingel, 75, of Sutherland died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. Burial will be in Waterman Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Paullina, Iowa.
Dorothy M. Hunter
KINGSLEY, Iowa - Dorothy Margaret Hunter, 87, of Kingsley died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab. Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kingsley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Crosswhite officiating. Burial will be in Grand Meadow Cemetery, rural Washta, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.
Mrs. Hunter was born May 15, 1910, in Grand Meadow Township, rural Washta, the daughter of Orville K. and Edna (Hartung) Barkley. She was raised in the Grand Meadow area, graduating from Grand Meadow High School.
She married Albert "Ab" Hunter on Jan. 22, 1929, in Nebraska. The couple made their home in Kingsley.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Ronald of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter and her husband, Jan and Jim Beal of Strawberry, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren, Mark, Steve, Ron, Tom and Heather Hunter, Ann Thariani, Kenneth Jr., Mitchell, Cameron, Dennis and Traci Anderson and Kristin Weaver; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen; and a granddaughter, Terri (Anderson) Rainwaters.
Gertrude E. Schilling
SALIX, Iowa - Gertrude E. Schilling, 88, formerly of Salix died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the Masonic Care Center in Bloomington, Minn.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salix, with the Rev. Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at the Wood Funeral Home in Sloan, Iowa.
Mrs. Schilling was born Jan. 16, 1910, in Esseg, Minn. She was raised in the New Ulm, Minn. area.
She married Carl Theodore Schilling on May 8, 1933, in Springfield, Minn. The couple moved to Salix in 1945. She was employed as a cook at St. Joseph School in Salix for 20 years. He died Aug. 31, 1975, in Onawa, Iowa. She entered the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa and had been at the care center in Bloomington for the last year.
She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Tabernacle Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Amelda Schilling of Iowa Falls, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Carl J. and Shirley of Kansas City, Mo. and Bernard W. and Wanda of Minneapolis, Minn.; three grandchildren, Julie (Schilling) Varvel, Laurie and Pam Schilling; and a great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle; and three brothers, Herb, Roy and Art.
