John F. Reichle
John Frank Reichle, 82, of Princeton, Minn., formerly of Hospers, Iowa, Merrill, Iowa, and Sioux City, died Thursday at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minn.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Princeton. Burial will be in St. Edward's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services Monday at the church. Williams-Hanson-Kaun Funeral Home of Princeton is in charge of the arrangements.

Dr. Gerald A. Chicoine
Dr. Gerald A. Chicoine, 72, of Sioux City died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at his home.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Geelan officiating. Burial with military graveside services performed by the American Legion Monahan Post #64 will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Dr. Chicoine was born Feb. 13, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Cyril A. and Helen M. (Schweiberger) Chicoine. He attended St. Boniface Grade School and Trinity High School, graduating in 1943. In the fall of 1943, he entered the U.S. Navy and was at Iwo Jima when the American flag was raised. He received his discharge in 1946. In the fall of 1946 he attended Palmer Chiropractic College where he graduated in 1949. He was a Doctor of Chiropractic in Sioux City for 51 years.

He Married Bonnie Sorensen Oct. 7, 1950, in Sioux City. He married Rosemarie "Cookie" Raskin Oct. 10, 1992, in Sioux City. He played softball for Ray V. Mitchell, and was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a member of the American Legion, Monahan Post #64. He was of the Catholic Faith and attended Blessed Sacrament Church for many years.

Survivors include his wife; six sons and their wives, Dr. Bradley A. and Colleen Chicoine, of Sioux City, Dr. Jeffrey A. and Karen Chicoine of Greensboro, N.C., Dr. Jon K. and LeeAnn Chicoine, of Round Rock, Texas, Dr. Richard V. and Janet Chicoine, of The Colony, Texas, Dr. Gerald D. Chicoine and his fiancee, Annette, of Tulsa, Okla., and Dr. James A. and Lisa Chicoine, of Austin, Texas; four daughters, Dr. Lin L. Chicoine of Sioux City, Susan R. and her husband, Curt Pohl, of Sioux City, Lisa M. and her husband, Dr. Fernando Cano, of Dallas, Texas, and Michele A. Chicoine of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Ronald Chicoine and his wife, Beth, of Palo Alto, Calif.; three sisters and their husbands, Genevieve M. and E.G. "Buss" Leapley, of Bakersfield, Calif., Doloris and Everett Ulm, of Lebanon, Ore., and Mary and Michael Donavan, of Sun Valley, Calif.; a stepson and his wife, Randy A. and Lisa Raskin of Sergeant Bluff; and a stepdaughter, Dr. Robyn Raskin-Crary and her husband, John Crary, of Sioux City; 22 grandchildren; and 5 step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marc; and a sister, JoAnn Balcolm.

David W. Hass
David W. Hass, 58, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Morningside Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Roger Graf officiating. A private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Hass was born Jan 11, 1940, in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Harold and Charlotte (Wagley) Hass. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1957 to 1964. He married Betty Peterson on Nov. 10, 1974, in Pierre, S.D. He had lived in Sioux City for the last 15 years. He worked for the Palmer House Restuarant for 10 years and Pepperdines for five years. He was a member of the American Culinary Association. He enjoyed reading, and cooking. He was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son Toni Christoph, of Erlangeng, Germany; two daughters and their husbands, Danyel, and Paul Craft of Sioux City, and Ember and Rex Bachman of Omaha, Neb.; two stepsons, Craig Dixon of Anchorage, Alaska, and Scott Dixon of Pierre, S.D.; five grandchildren and three step grandchildren.

He was preceded by his first wife, Renee Harders Hass; and a son Darren.

Memorials may be directed to Morningside Presbyterian Church.

Madelon A. Swanson

Madelon A. Swanson, 72, of Sioux City died Thursday Aug. 20, 1998, at her home after an extended illness.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Daniel Greving officiating. The St. Vincent Nurses Alumni Association will stand honor guard at the church. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Swanson was born Feb. 27, 1926, in Marion, S.D., the daughter of John and Agnes (Curry) Moriarty. She grew up in Farmer, S.D., and graduated from Farmer High School. She later graduated from Presentation School of Nursing in Mitchell, S.D. She married Paul R. Swanson on Dec. 27, 1948, in Farmer. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1951. She worked for St. Vincent Hospital and later for Marian Health Center for 38 years. She was a member of St. Vincent Nurses Alumni Association. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Jeff Swanson of Lincoln, Neb., Eric Swanson and his wife, Jill of Yankton, S.D., and Leif Swanson and his wife, Lyndee, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; three daughters and their husbands, Mary and Bill Butchko of San Francisco; Elizabeth and Cal Piepho, of Lincoln, and Sarah and Brad Schuyler, of Auberry, Calif.; three brothers and their wives, Tom and Dolores Moriarty of Waconda, S.D., Pat and Janet Moriarty of Huddleston, Va., and Tim and Michelle Moriarty, of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Jeanne and her husband, Joe Cutschall, of Broomfield, Colo., and Maxine Moriarty of Sheridan Wyo.; 11 grandchildren, Billy Butchko, Kate Butchko, Ellen Piepho, Michelle Piepho, John Piepho, Erica Swanson, Aaron Swanson, Anna Swanson, Julia Madelon Swanson, and Bethany and Jordan Ness.

Pallbearers will be Billy Butchko, Jeff, Eric, and Leif Swanson, Bill Butchko, Cal Piepho, and Brad Schuyler.

Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of Siouxland.

Julia J. Schunck
Julia J. Schunck, 94, of Sioux City died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
Servics will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. John Meyer, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schunck was born Sept. 16, 1903, in Long Beach, Wash., the daughter of Colonel and Belle DeLong. She was raised in Sioux City by her two aunts, Margaret and Jane DeLong. She graduated from Central High School. She later graduated from Sioux City Normal School and taught school in Sioux City for eight years. She married Arthur H. Schunck on Aug. 15, 1931, in Sioux City. He died Sept. 30, 1967, in Sioux City. She worked for Younkers Department Store for 26 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Eastern Star Rose Croix Chapter #400.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Michael Larson, of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Kathy Babe, Anthony Larson, Roxanne Larson, Theresa Ingrum, Kerry Gangestad, and Dan and Tim Larson.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Larson.

Pallbearers will be Tony, Dan and Tim Larson, Jim Babe, Dean Gangestad, and Jeff Ingrum.

William F. Shults
William F. Shults, 80, of Sioux City died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Visitation will be at 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Cremation will follow the scriptural wake service.

Marjorie L. Larsen
Marjorie L. Larsen, 91, of Sioux City died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Larsen was born Dec. 19, 1906, in Paullina, Iowa, the daughter of Martin L. and Samantha (Greene) Peterson. She married Edward E. Larsen on June 7, 1943, in Paullina. He died Sept. 14, 1957. She was a member of the Secretary's Club and enjoyed golf and bridge.

Survivors include three nieces, Patricia Foreman of Sioux City, Connie Greene of San Antonio, Texas, and Betty Blake of Hemet, Calif.; and three nephews Weston Ralston of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jack Schwarz of Overland Park, Kan. and Bob Stampe of Saginaw, Mich.

She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Marie L. Heath
Marie L. Heath, 92, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday; Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Cade A. Johnson
MAPLETON, Iowa - Cade Anthony Johnson, 17-year-old son of Fred and Jane (Schroeder) Johnson, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Mapleton, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at Spirit Lake, Iowa as the result of an accident.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Maple Valley Anthon-Oto High School Gym with the Rev. Eugene Ernst, officiating. Burial will be in Odebolt Cemetery, Odebolt, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Cade Johnson was born Feb. 8, 1981, at Onawa, Iowa. He was baptized March 29, 1981, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa and was confirmed May 7, 1995, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa where he was currently a member. He lived his entire life in the Mapleton area and just recently moved to Spirit Lake. He was to have entered his Senior year at Maple Valley Anthon-Oto High School in Mapleton.

His interests included cars and all sports. He was a gifted athlete with special talents in basketball, golf, skiing, and water sports.

Survivors include his parents; a brother and his wife, Thane and Michelle of Mapleton; four sisters, Dena of Vermillion, S.D., and Holly, Sari, and Jacey, all of Spirit Lake; his paternal grandmother, Jeanette Johnson of Mapleton; his great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stehr of Odebolt, Iowa; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Norman and Ardis Schroeder; and his paternal grandfather, Vieri Johnson.

Pallbearers will be fellow members of the Maple Valley Anthon-Oto basketball team.

Jim McCabe
CROFTON, Neb. - Jim McCabe, 85, of Crofton died Friday at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion, Neb.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. Burial will be in Crofton City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Venith H. Brower
Venith H. Brower, 91, formerly of Sioux City died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, in Yucaipa, Calif.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Michael B. Malfatti
LE MARS, Iowa - Michael Brian Malfatti, 25, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, as the result of an automobile accident.
Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City. Burial took place at an earlier date.

Mr. Malfatti was born Sept. 1, 1972, in Monett, Mo., the son of Stephen and Linda Malfatti. He was employed as the general foreman for Wright Tree Service.

Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Michelle Malfatti, and Melissa Wiejaczka; a son, Dylan Thomas Malfatti; his grandmother, Nadine Cox; grandparents, George and Lois Malfatti; and his girlfriend, Jennifer Clubs.

Memorials may be directed to the Dylan Thomas Malfatti Trust Fund in care of Stephen Malfatti, 7890 Candleflower Circle, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Angela E. McConville
JEFFERSON, S.D. - Angela E. McConville, 84, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Jefferson, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Sioux Falls. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today with a Scripture service followed by a Catholic Daughter rosary at 7 p.m. at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.

Mrs. McConville was born Nov. 18, 1913, in Sioux Falls. She attended school in rural Linwood, S.D., and graduated from St. Joseph's Cathedral High School in 1931. She then attended Rosary College in River Forest, Ill. She graduated from South Dakota State University in 1935, with a B.S. degree in Home Economics Education. She began her high school teaching career in Estelline, S.D., followed by two years at Jefferson High School in Jefferson, S.D. In the fall of 1938, she went to Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa, on a fellowship and received a master's in child development in 1940. That same year, she joined the Home Economics Department at Mississippi State University in Hattiesburg, Miss. She married Robert McConville on March 7, 1943. The couple settled on a farm north of Sioux Falls. He died April 6, 1975.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Legion of Mary, Cathedral Club, and World Apostolate of Fatima.

Survivors include three sons, Chris of Baltic, S.D., John of Sioux Falls, and Joe of Winston Salem, N.C.; five daughters, Joan McConville of Colorado Springs, Colo., Roberta Rhodes of Ottowa, Kan., Alice Schiel of Sidney, Neb., Mary of Dell Rapids, S.D., and Teresa McConville of Rochester, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and a sister, Sr. Alice Lacey.

Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph's Grade School in Sioux Falls.

Magdalena Bixenman
HOSPERS, Iowa - Magdalena Fischer Bixenman, 93, of Hospers, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hospers with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday with a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Bixenman was born April 11, 1905, in Mendota, Ill., the daughter of Michael and Clara (Metzen) Friedrich. At the age of 6, she moved with her family to the Hospers area where she was raised and educated. She married Fredrick Fischer Jan. 13, 1926, in Hospers. They farmed near Hospers until he died on Sept. 5, 1962. She moved into Sheldon, Iowa in November 1962. She married Chris Bixenman on May 25, 1964 in Sheldon. They lived in Salisbury, Mo. He died June 20, 1965. She moved back to Sheldon in August 1965. She entered Leisure Pine Retirement Home in Ashton, Iowa, Aug. 12, 1987. She had been a resident of Country View Manor since March 11, 1993.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, John and Catherine Fischer of Sheldon, Gerald and Yvonne Fischer of Rock Valley, Iowa, Harold and Ardell Fischer of Fulda, Minn., and Jerome and Rita Fischer of Hospers; two daughers, Rosanne and her husband, Firmin Goebel, of Rushmore, Minn., and Christine Sauer of Sheldon; 34 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a step great-great-grandson; two sisters, Catherine Fischer of Sheldon, and Rose and her husband, Vincent Bange, of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Isabell Friedrich of Madison, S.D.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Rosella, in infancy, and Marian as a young child; a son, Fredrick in infancy; a granddaughter, Julie Fischer; a son-in-law, Donald Sauer; a brother, John Friedrich; and six sisters, Mary Fischer, Margaret, her twin sister, as a child, Thedora Friedrich, Geneive Bange, Johana Block, and Agnes Friedrich.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.
