Dorothy A. Lenzen
Dorothy A. Lenzen, 88, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Wednesday Aug. 26, 1998, at the Wayne Medical Center in Wayne, Neb.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church with the Rev. Kevin M. Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Lenzen was born June 4, 1910, in Randloph, Neb., the daughter of Herman and Philomena (Schrad) Kaiser. She graduated from St. Francis Catholic School in Randolph. She married John A. Lenzen Jan. 29, 1929, in Randolph. He died Oct. 21, 1981, in Sioux City. The couple farmed in the Randolph area for 30 years. She moved to Hinton in 1962 and owned and operated D&J Cafe, retiring in 1976. She moved to Sioux City in 1977.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Christian Mothers at St. Francis in Randolph. She was also a member of the Birthday Club of Randolph and Senior Citizens of Hinton.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Paul and Flo of Laurel, Neb.; two daughters, Carolyn Thompson of Louisville, Ky., and Barbara and her husband, Gary Fiedler, of Papillion, Neb.; a brother and his wife, Melvin and Yvonne Kaiser of Long Beach, Calif; and a sister, Elma Bogener of Sioux City; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Irene German, Nora Langferman, and Marie Kaiser.

Stephanie Radtke-Griffith
Stephanie Lynne Radtke-Griffith, 19, of Sioux City died Friday Aug. 28, 1998, at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake, Iowa after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a scriptural wake servcice at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jason E. Mieras
Jason E. Mieras, 67, of San Bernardino, Calif., formerly of Sioux City and Maurice, Iowa, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, in San Bernardino after a long illness.
Memorial services were Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, in San Bernardino.

Marlene Ensminger-Jensen
Marlene Ensminger-Jensen, 38, of Axtell, Neb., formerly of Pender, Neb., and South Sioux City, died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, at the Good Samritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Axtell with the Rev. Helmut Yurk officiating. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Rose Hill Cemetery at Emerson, Neb. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Munderloh Funeral Home in Emerson. Freeland-Layton Funeral Home of Axtell is in charge of arrangements in Axtell.

Mrs. Ensminger-Jensen was born in Pender, Neb., the daughter of Joseph and Betty (Fuchser) Ensminger. She grew up in Pender and moved to South Sioux City where she graduated from high school in 1978. She attended school in Sioux City and graduated as an x-ray technician. She moved to Valentine, Neb. and worked for six years before moving to Kearney and working at the Good Samaritan Hospital. She married Gary Jensen Sept. 2, 1989, in Kearney. The couple lived in Axtell. She worked for Alliance Imagining as a MRI technician, and later worked for Kearney Orthopidic and Fracture Clinic until failing health made it necessary to stop working.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Vade Jensen at home; her mother; a brother, Mark Ensminger of South Sioux City; two sisters, Marcia Griffith of Chadron, Neb., and Maureen Bottorff of Dakota City; and many neices and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her father.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Patrick
Mary Patrick, 87, of Sioux City died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel with the Rev. Evangelos S. Pepps, pastor of Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Patrick was born July 30, 1911, in Sioux City, the daughter of Filop and Rena (Holet) Wendzillo. She married Orren Patrick, June 16, 1928, in Elk Point, S.D. He died April 10, 1987, in Sioux City. She was employed with Armours and Company for 25 years. She was active in the AFL-CIO as secretary and Democratic Delegate, during which time she she visited with such notables as John F. Kennedy, Hubert Humphrey, and James Hoffa. After the closing of Armours and Company, she attended NBT and received her degree. She then worked for the Iowa Liquor Commission for 20 years.

Survivors include a brother and his wife, George and Janice Wendzillo, of Bronson, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Sophia and James Hall of Bangor, Mich.; a niece whom she helped raise, and her husband, Linda and Al Lover of Byron, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Donna Wendzillo of Sioux City; several nieces and nephews and other relatives; and a special friend, Annie Rosenbaum of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Anna Baker, Nadja Zahn, Vera Weaver, and Elizabeth Davidchik; three brothers, Tony Wendzillo, and Filop and Andrew Wendzillo as infants.

Verna Bouma
HULL, Iowa - Verna (Oostenink) Bouma, 70, of Grand Rapids, Mich., formerly of Hull, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, in Grand Rapids.
Services were held in Grand Rapids on Aug. 24, 1998. Burial was in Edgerton, Minn. on Aug. 26, 1998. Stroo Funeral Home of Grand Rapids was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Bouma was born April 27, 1928, in Hull, the daughter of Gerritt and Hattie (Rikkers) Oostenink. She married Wally Bouma Aug. 22, 1952, in Hull. He died in 1967 in Edgerton.

Survivors include two sons, Leron Paul of Grand Rapids, and Bill of Santa Clara, Calif.; two daughters and their husbands, Bonnie and Brian Chapman, and Janna and Mark Hasselbring of Grand Rapids; two grandchildren, Alethea Ingersoll and Zac Chapman; three sisters, Bonnie Geels of Sheldon, Iowa, and Garneth and Lorraine Oostenink, of Sioux City; a brother, Dr. William Oostenink and his wife, Gretchen, of Hamilton, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Gertrude Ernst
SCHLESWIG, Iowa - Gertrude Ernst, 85, of Schleswig died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at the Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek, Iowa.
Services were Thursday Aug. 27, 1998, at United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Burial was in Morgan Cemetery. Huebner Funeral Home of Schleswig was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Ernst was born March 17, 1913, in Ida County, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Clara (Schumann) Backhaus. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

She married Hugo Frederick Ernst on Sept. 28, 1932, in Schleswig. The couple farmed near Schleswig. He died April 3, 1964. She continued to lived on the farm until 1974, when she moved into Schleswig.

She was a member of United Church of Christ, Ladies Guild and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, baking and traveling.

Survivors include four daughters, Norma Jean and her husband, Gerald Lyman, of Grand Junction, Colo., Bernadine and her husband, Paul Kragel, of Schleswig, Marlene Harper of New London, Iowa, and Jolene and her husband, John Hoefling, of Odebolt, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Charles and Traudl of Roxboro, N.C., and Hugo C. Jr. and Cynthia of Grand Junction; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Fern Stier of Schleswig; a brother, Carl Backhaus of Aurelia, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Clara Schwieso of Marana, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Kruse; two brothers, Otto Backhaus and one in infancy; and a grandson, Steven Ernst.

Leslie M. Fertig
ODEBOLT, Iowa - Leslie Merle Fertig, 77, of Odebolt died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt with the Rev. Lanny Carlson officiating. Burial with full military graveside rites conducted by Roose Post #131 of the American Legion will be in Odebolt Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the services Monday at the church.

Mr. Fertig was born Jan. 9, 1921, at the family homestead southeast of Odebolt, the son of William and Anna (Bonnichsen) Fertig. He attended country school. In 1942, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served during World War II in the South Pacific and spent three years on the battlefield fighting from foxholes. After his discharge he began farming south of Arthur, Iowa. He married Ruth S. Koster June 4, 1950. The couple farmed for 13 years and in 1960, bought an acreage on the north edge of Odebolt. He enjoyed gardening, especially onions and tomatoes. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Leslie Ray and Jeanette, of Odebolt; two stepsons and their wives, Larry and Joyce Koster of Chester, Iowa, and Vern and Lori Koster of Rochester, Minn.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Kay and Jerry Pisney, of Rochester; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Everett and Carolyn Fertig, and Marvin and Marlene Fertig, all of Odebolt; and a sister, Helen Hoaglund of Arthur.

Gary L. Seward
WHITING, Iowa - Gary Leon Seward, 58, of Sabine Pass, Texas, formerly of Whiting, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, after a lengthy illness of cancer.
Graveside services were held Thursday Aug. 20, 1998, in Sabine Pass Cemetery under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home of Groves, Texas.

Mr. Seward was born Sept. 4, 1939, in Maple Landing, Iowa, the son of Johnnie and Lenora Seward. He had lived in Whiting. He lived in Sabine Pass for 30 years. He was employed with Eldridge Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator with 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post #7 in Port Arthur, Texas.

Survivors include his mother; two sons, Gary Seward and Jason Seward, both of Sabine Pass; two brothers, Jack Seward of Marble Falls, Texas, and Bryan Seward of Storm Lake, Iowa; and a grandson, Jason Allen Seward.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Danny Seward.

Leland J. Wielenga
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Leland J. Wielenga, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., formerly of Orange City, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at his home.
The body was cremated. There were no services. East Coast Cremation of Rockledge, Fla. was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Wielenga was born Jan. 8, 1931, in Orange City, the son of Lou and Joanna Wielenga. He lived in Sunnyvale, Calif. before moving to Cocoa Beach in 1990. He was an engineer for Lockheed in Sunnyvale for 30 years, retiring in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Greg Wielenga of Sunnyvale; and a daughter, Julie Wielenga of Sunnyvale.

Eunice Preszler
SPRINGFIELD, S.D. - Eunice Preszler, 84, of Springfield, died unexpectedly Friday at the Good Samaritan Center in Tyndall.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Church of Christ in Springfield. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. today at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Springfield.

Irene Beem
HORNICK, Iowa - Irene Beatrice Beem, 88, of Hornick died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Faith Center. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Westfork Township Cemetery in Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Christy, Smith, and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Marvin E. IntVeld
SHELDON, Iowa - Marvin E. IntVeld, 65, of Sheldon, died Thursday at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, Iowa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today with a Masonic service at 1:30 p.m. and the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

Ransom C. Leonard
HOLSTEIN, Iowa - Ransom C. Leonard, 83, of Holstein, died Friday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein. Burial with flag presentation by Dessel Schmidt American Legion Post #225 will be in Holstein Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Earl Herrig
VAIL, Iowa - Earl Herrig, 77, of Vail died Friday at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, Iowa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kiron, Iowa. Burial will be in King Cemetery in Vail. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Mary Knutson
SLOAN, Iowa - Mary Knutson, 92, of Sloan, died Saturday; Wood Funeral Home of Sloan.
