Harriette C. Rehwoldt
Harriette Claire (Coon) Rehwoldt, 81, formerly of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Krishen Persaud officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Chr isty-Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rehwoldt was born Jan. 28, 1917, in Winnebago, Neb., the daughter of Rhodes Jefferson and Genevieve Charlotte (Draper) Taylor. She was raised in Siouxland and attended Sioux City schools.
She married Wayne Wesley Coon on July 4, 1932. He died Sept. 20, 1956. She moved to Oregon in 1962 and married Herm Rehwoldt on July 3, 1967. He died May 28, 1998. She returned to Sioux City on Dec. 15, 1998.
She was employed as a office manager with North Bend, Ore. water board.
She was a former member of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, a past president of Women of St. Luke Lutheran Church and a member of Order of the Eastern Star Rose Croix.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Ronald and Jean Coon and Jan and Charlotte Coon, all of Sioux City and Michael and Linda Coon of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two daughters and their husbands, Janet and David Adam of Sioux City and Diane and Cliff Rehwoldt of Gresham, Ore.; a brother, Robert Taylor of Ponca, Neb.; a sister, Vira Williams of Kennewick, Wash.; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Martin; and four brothers, Charles, Earl, Gay and Jerry Taylor.
Pallbearers will be Jan G. Coon, Mark and Mike Adam, Tim Merchant, Eric Norton and Steve Treinen.
Matilda R. Copas
Matilda R. (Gilson) Copas, 88, of Greenwood, Ind., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday in Greenwood.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home in Greenwood. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Indianapolis, Ind. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Dwayne E. Risdal
Dwayne Emery Risdal, 84, of McCallsburg, Iowa died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Gilbert, Iowa.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, with the Rev. Wayne Pfannkuch officiating. Burial will be in Warren Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Roland, Iowa.
Mr. Risadal was born July 31, 1914, in Norway, Iowa, the son of Hannes and Clara (Hall) Risdal.
He married Maurine Joyce Hauskins on March 7, 1936, in McCallsburg. The couple settled in McCallsburg. He was employed as a truck driver and then as a custodian at Iowa State Center. She died Dec. 28, 1998.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was involved in the Civil Conservation Corp. in Arkansas.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly and her husband, George Alitz, of McCallsburg and Sharon Elaine Stole of Radcliffe, Iowa; a son and his wife, Don and Barbara Risdal of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Bacon of Arizona and Marlene Collins of California; and two brothers, David Risdal of Story City, Iowa, and Harlan Risdal of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bervin, Donald and Stanley Risdal; and two sisters, Louise and Maxine.
Maurine J. Risdal
Maurine Joyce Risdal, 82, of McCallsburg, Iowa died Monday, Dec. 8, 1998, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Gilbert, Iowa.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly and her husband, George Alitz, of McCallsburg and Sharon Elaine Stole of Radcliffe, Iowa; a son and his wife, Don and Barbara Risdal of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Darlene Malmin of Des Moines; and a half brother, Joris Severson of McCallsburg.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth and Geneva; and two brothers, Marion "Fritz" and Harold Hauskins.
Shannon T. Dickes
Shannon T. Dickes, 24, of South Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dale Jirousek officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Dickes was born June 18, 1974, in Sioux City, the son of Gerald C. and Carol M. (Halle) Dickes. He graduated from South Sioux City High School. He was employed as a supply clerk with IBP for three years.
Survivors include his parents of South Sioux City; two sisters, Sheila Lynn Dickes of Sioux City and Jerri Shannee Dickes of South Sioux City; maternal grandparents, Walter and Charlotte Pierce of Hartington, Neb.; paternal grandmother, Velma Dickes of Hartington; and three nieces and a nephew.
Pallbearers will be Troy Twohig, Aaron Heidaman, Jeremy Arends, Jerry Baker, Philip Hetrick, Rick McNaughton and Chuck Clayton.
Frank Richard Jr.
Frank J. "Frankie" Richard Jr., 11-year-old son of Frank J. and Rose M. (Trudell) Richard Sr. of Sioux City, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. E.D. Pappadackis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Frankie was born June 7, 1987, in Phoenix, Ariz. He came to Sioux City when he was four years old. He attended Hunt and Everett Elementary schools. He was currently a sixth grader at Woodrow Wilson Middle School.
He was a member of the Boys Club, where he was a junior volunteer. He enjoyed biking, rollerblading and F-16 Fighter jets.
Survivors include his father of Sioux City; his mother of Pahrump, Nev.; his guardians, Ellen and Lisa Ford of Sioux City; six sisters, Naqia, Rosanna and Laci Richards and Allison Ford, all of Sioux City, Cheyenne and Kianna Garnett of Pahrump; five brothers, Daniel and Kenneth Richard and Jackson Yates, all of Sioux City, Jeffrey and Jessie Garnett of Pahrump; maternal grandparents, Leona and Reynold Laferriere of Sioux City and Kenneth Trudell of Bloomfield, Neb.; paternal grandparents, George and Sylvia Richard of Phoenix; maternal great-grandmother, Mabel Osborne of Sioux City; maternal great-grandfather, William Trudell of Santee, Neb.; and paternal great-grandmother, Marie Richard of Gardner, Mass.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Ford.
Gladys I. Mercer
Gladys I. Mercer, 84, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Private family services and burial of the cremains in Memorial Park Cemetery will be at a later date. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Northside Chapel.
Mrs. Mercer was born April 28, 1914, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of William and Emma (Engle) Stoewer. She was raised the the Le Mars area and graduated from Le Mars High School. She was employed with Dollar Store and Albertsons. During World War II, she was employed at an aircraft factory in San Diego, Calif.
She married Bernard W. Mercer on Oct. 17, 1943, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He died July 14, 1998, in Sioux City.
The couple lived in Sioux City for many years, then moved to Lake Okoboji, Iowa following his retirement. They returned to Sioux City in 1993.
She was a member of Trintiy Lutheran Church, K.V.B. Circle and Lakeville Club in Okoboji. She was a past member of Ladies Thursday Afternoon Bowling League.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Bernita and Glenn Mannes of Yankton, S.D., and Vicki and Rick Wollman of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Brent and Sarah Mannes and Jason Wollman; and a sister, Bernice Remer of Wayne, Neb.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Muecke.
A memorial in her name has been established.

Joe Wolfswinkel
ROCK VALLEY, Iowa - Joe Wolfswinkel, 90, of Rock Valley died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Valley Manor in Rock Valley.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Carmel Reformed Church in Carmel, Iowa, with the Rev. Brad Langstraat officiating. Burial will be in Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Mr. Wolfswinkel was born June 28, 1908, in Hull, Iowa, the son of Henry and Johanna (Sandbulte) Wolfswinkel. He attended school at the Hull country school.
He married Sadie Te Slaa on June 20, 1935, in Hull. The couple lived and farmed near Carmel, until moving to Rock Valley in 1974.
He was a member of Carmel Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife; four sons and their wives, Henry and Betty and Jim and Helaine, all of Rock Valley, John and Myrna of Sheldon, Iowa, and Gene and Sheryl of Pella, Iowa; four daughters and their husbands, Hester and Rodney Bolkema of Le Mars, Iowa, Joanne and Harvey Van Otterloo of Rock Valley, Shirley and Alvin Veldkamp of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Lynda and Larry Perryman of Houston, Texas; 48 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dena De Bey and Johanna Rozeboom, both of Sioux Center.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jennie and Hattie; and a brother, Burney.
Pallbearers will be Dale Bolkema, Merlin Van Otterloo, Jerry, Ardell, Scott, Brian and Kristin Wolfswinkel and Jessica Perryman.

SPENCER, Iowa - Marjorie "Marge" Cook, 70, of Spencer died Sunday at Spencer Municipal Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

REMSEN, Iowa - Roger L. Ladenthin, 55, of Remsen died Saturday.

PRIMGHAR, Iowa - Marguerite Trower, 87, of Primghar died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at United Church of Primghar, with the Rev. Roger Henry officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Hull, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Primghar.
Mrs. Trower was born April 11, 1911, in Hull, the daughter of Peter and Lena (Cole) Bell. She attended school in Hull and graduated from Hull High School in 1929. She attended normal training courses and taught country school.
She married John Brouwer on Oct. 25, 1930. The couple settled in Orange City, Iowa. They lived in Boyden, Sheldon and Mapleton, Iowa, before moving to Primghar.13 great-grandchildren; three stepsons and their wives, Roger and Lenota Trower of Atlanta, Ga., Leroy and Sandy Trower of Allerton, Iowa, and David and Sharrol Trower of New Hampton, Iowa; four stepgrandchildren; and a brother, Norman Bell of Boyden.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marla Sorensen.

ALCESTER, S.D. - Gladys Hendricks, 97, of Alcester died Tuesday at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, S.D.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Beresford. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester.
Nellie Tanner
SHELDON, Iowa - Nellie Tanner, 93, of Primghar, Iowa, formerly of Sheldon, died Monday at Primghar Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Betty V. Bern
ONAWA, Iowa - Betty V. Bern, 85, of Onawa died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
There will be no services. Private family burial will be in Onawa City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home in Sioux City.
Mrs. Bern was the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (Gruber) McClellan. She was raised in the Castana, Iowa, area. She lived in Sioux City for a few years and in Onawa for 19 years.
Survivors include two sons, Donald and Larry Buller, both of California; three sisters, Anna Johnson and Hilda Lorenzen, both of Onawa and Mary Decker of Union Star, Mo.; and a brother, Edison McCellan of Onawa.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Kenneth Fettes
ASHTON, Iowa - Kenneth William Fettes, 69 of Ashton died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 1998, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton, with the Rev. Timothy J. Hogan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., a Catholic Daughters of American rosary at 4 p.m., a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m. and a parish wake service at 8 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Walton, Roste and Vogel Funeral Home in Ashton.
Mr. Fettes was born March 8, 1929, in Ashton, the son of Peter and Emma (Gacke) Fettes. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Ashton, graduating in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, during the Korean War.
He married Lorraine Stallman on May 28, 1957, in Ashton. The couple farmed on the family farm. He was also employed with Sudenga Industries in George, Iowa, retiring to Ashton in 1996.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir and served as a Eucharistic minister and lecturer. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight, and American Legion William Ben Hoffman Post of Ashton.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, James and his wife, Brenda, of George, Thomas of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Ronald and his wife, Debra, of Seaside, Calif.; three daughters, Mary Kay and her husband, Kevin Fields, of Kalamazoo, Mich., Nancy Doorenbos of Sheldon, Iowa, and Pam Durst of Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren, Gregory and Sarah Fields, Christopher, Courtney, Robin, Brandon, Jessica, Jamie and Brian Fettes, Kayla Doorenbos and Michelle Durst; a brother and his wife, Raymond and Eunice of Sheldon; a sister, Mercedes Newkirk of Sibley, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Louise Fettes of Long Beach, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kenneth W.; a brother, Robert; and a brother-in-law, Jesse Dale Newkirk.
Eugene R. Slaughter
LYONS, Neb. - Eugene Richard Slaughter, 56, of Lyons died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, Neb., with the Rev. Brion P. Tolzman officiating. Burial will be in Lyons Cemetery, Lyons. Visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Palmquist-Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland, Neb.. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
Mr. Slaughter was born March 31, 1942, in Pender, Neb., the son of Alton and Melba (Powley) Slaughter. He graduated from Rosalie (Neb.) High School in 1959.
He married Sharon Kay Frey on Nov. 25, 1965, in Decatur, Neb. The couple farmed near Lyons for 23 years. In 1988, they moved into Lyons. He was employed as a truck driver for Nielson Oil and Propane.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Decatur and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kirk and his wife, Kimrena, of David City, Neb., Marty and his wife, Amy, of Wakefield, Neb., and Rustin of Lyons; three grandchildren, Allison Kay, Derek Jon and Treyton Eugene Slaughter; his mother of Lyons; two sisters and their husbands, Pat and Roger Andersen and Barb and Paul Brewer, all of Lyons; a brother and his wife, Lonnie and Carol of South Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Scott Eugene; and a niece.
Pallbearers will be Shane Slaughter, Michael Brewer, Jay Andersen, Brad Strong, Raymond Hayes, Jim and Dale Webster, Dan Bacon and Randy McClusky.
