Leonard Schulz, 74, of Sioux City died Sunday in Harlingen, Texas.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the fmaily present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Larry Paterni
Larry Paterni, 58, of Sioux City died Tuesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Wellsberg, Iowa. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service Thursday at the church. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Bertha I. Johnston
Bertha I. Johnston, 97, of Sioux City died Sunday at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Floyd Cemetery. The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Ferne Christiansen
Ferne Christiansen, 87, of Sioux City died Monday, Feb. 16, 1997, in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Rechichar officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Miss Christiansen was born May 18, 1910, in Harlan, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Minnie (Madden) Christiansen. She graduated from high school in Walnut, Iowa.

She moved to Sioux City when she was 20 years old.

She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist.

Survivors include a nephew, Roger Adair of Ute, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Mary C. Gould
Mary Catherine Gould, 81, of Sioux City died Monday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Margaret Du Bois
Margaret "Peggy" (Wood) Du Bois, 73, of Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Verdery Kerr officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Larkin Northside Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Du Bois was born March 1, 1924, in Sioux City, the daughter of Hobart L. and Abigail (Kneedler) Wood.

She was raised in Sioux City and lived in Fargo and Bismark, N.D. for many years. She returned to Sioux City in the early 1980s.

She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and the Republican Party Volunteers and a charter member of the Junior League of Fargo. She was a Contract Bridge Life Master.

Mrs. Du Bois was a seamstress and crafted needle work.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Fred and Nancy Du Bois; a daughter and her husband, Deborah and John Cochran; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Virginia W. Snowden of Nunnelly, Tenn., and Constance W. and her husband, Robert Temple, of Sioux City; a brother, Charles L. Wood of Sun City, Ariz., and Sioux Falls, S.D.; and her former husband, James Du Bois of Inverness, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Barbara Du Bois Callahan; and infant twins.

Memorials may be directed to the donor's favorite charity or St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

Hubert Tott Jr.
Hubert Tott Jr., 70, of Sioux City died Tuesday at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery at Jackson, Neb. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m., a rosary at 7:30 p.m. said by the Knights of Columbus and a Scripture service at 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

John M. Armigo, 55, of Sioux City died Tuesday; Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home.

Bertha Westerveld
SHELDON, Iowa - Bertha Westerveld, 95, of Sheldon died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. Randy Bergsma officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery. Sheldon Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Westerveld was born Dec. 12, 1902, in Horstermark, Germany, the daughter of Adam and Louisa (During) Kopatz. She was raised in Germany and the Netherlands and attended school in Germany. She came to the United States in March 1928.

She married Theodore Westerveld on March 12, 1928, in Boyden, Iowa. The couple lived and farmed near Boyden, Orange City and Sheldon, Iowa. In 1978 they moved to Sheldon. She entered the Sheldon Nursing Home in 1982. He died Jan. 31, 1995.

She was a member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Dena Hibma of Edgerton, Minn., and Arlene Westerveld of Sheldon; two sons and their wives, Willard and Mertie of Edina, Minn., and Gerald and Norma of Peoria, Ariz.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maria Smid of Assen, Netherlands.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers, an infant daughter, three granddaughters, a great-granddaughter and a son-in-law.

Pallbearers will be Dane, Danelle, Daryl and Roger Hibma and Gerald and Willard Westerveld.

Marie C. Kunzie
WALTHILL, Neb. - Marie Collins Kunzie, 87, of Walthill died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at Pender (Neb.) Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, with the Rev. Brion Tolzman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Munderloh Funeral Home in Walthill.

Mrs. Kunzie was born Aug. 27, 1910, in Bancroft, Neb., the daughter of John and Margaret (Sorenson) Nottleman.

She married William Collins on March 14, 1928. The couple lived in the Walthill area. He died April 1, 1980.

She married Paul Kunzie on Oct. 26, 1981. The couple lived in Walthill.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid and the Walthill Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Vernon Bahr of Portland, Ore., Lois and Calvin Stewart of Paullina, Iowa, and Joan and Del Hightree of Decatur, Neb.; a son and his wife, John and Vicki of Sioux City; three sisters, Leona Hightree and Ora Tippery, both of Walthill, and Ella Potts of Omaha, Neb.; and a brother, Floyd Nottleman of Blair, Neb.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Bill and Marvin.

Otto E. Knobloch
LARCHWOOD, Iowa - Otto E. Knobloch, 85, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Larchwood, died unexpectedly Monday at Luverne (Minn.) Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, Iowa. Burial will be in Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

Irven T. Lorenzen
ANTHON, Iowa - Irven T. Lorenzen, 85, of Anthon died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon, with the Rev. Roger Maize officiating. Private burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Lorenzen was born June 5, 1912, near Castana, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Caroline (Hass) Lorenzen.

He married Helen Buck on April 12, 1933, in Onawa, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Castana area and later moved to Anthon. He retired in 1978 and moved into Anthon. He entered Morningside Care Center in October 1996.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Duane and Lucy of Belvedere, Ill.; two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Charles Watt of Ida Grove and Joyce and Tom Oertel of Boydton, Va.; two sisters, Ella McClatchey of Manilla, Iowa, and Elsie Lutes of Marshalltown, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and Otto; two sisters, Anna McClatchey and Alvina Noethlich; and a grandson, Scott Oertel.

Memorials in his name may be directed to the Anthon Rescue Squad.

Roy Pueppke
LYONS, Neb. - Roy "Bud" Pueppke, 77, of Lyons died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Neb.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Piper Funeral Home in Lyons, with the Rev. Kirk Erwin, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Lyons, officiating. Burial will be in Lyons City Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Robert Klase Post 7998.

Mr. Pueppke was born May 9, 1920, in Lyons, the son of Albert C. and Christine (Svendsen) Pueppke. He attended Lyons Public School.

He was employed as an over the road truck driver and also worked for the state of Nebraska.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with the 296th Signal Installation Company. He served in Tunisia and Italy.

Following his discharge, he graduated from the Omaha Barber College and worked in the Joe Kucera Barber Shop in Fremont, Neb., for three years.

He married Jo Larsen on May 7, 1955, in Papillion, Neb.

He opened his own barber shop in Bancroft, Neb., which he later moved to Lyons. He closed his shop in 1972.

He was a licensed pilot and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Robert Klase Post 7992. He enjoyed woodworking and the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife; a stepdaughter and her husband, Helen and Alfred Petersen of Fremont; two grandchildren, Jeff Petersen and Keley Petersen-MacMillian; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Ella Uehling of Lyons and Lora Tryon of Eureka, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William, Fred and Benard; and a sister, Betty Freeman.

Dorothy Bear Holstein
WINNEBAGO, Neb. - Dorothy Irene Bear Holstein, 85, of Winnebago died of natural causes Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at her residence.
Traditional Winnebago rites were held at her residence and in Wyeville, Wis. Burial was Feb. 15 in Winnebago Indian Cemetery. Orville Greendeer of Wyeville was in charge.

Mrs. Holstein was born July 13, 1912, in Winnebago, the daughter of Jacob Prettyman, enrollment change to Bear, and Minnie Sherman.

Following her parents' death, she was raised by her grandparents, the John Shermans, in Wisconsin. The family later moved to Nebraska, where she attended the Winnebago Reformed Church Indian Mission. She graduated from the Winnebago School in 1933 and from Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls.

She was employed with the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs Winnebago Agency.

She married Raichard L. Frenchman on March 2, 1937, in Winnebago. She divorced him in 1946 and moved to Wisconsin and then to Chicago.

She married Robert F. Holstein in 1948, in Chicago.

She was employed with Oscar Meyer, American Indian Center as a board member, the Chicago Indian Social Club as a founding board member and the National Conference of Christians and Jews.

She returned to Nebraska in 1964 and served on the board of directors for various Nebraska enterprises. She was employed as an enrollment clerk for the Bureau of Indian Affairs Winnebago Agency, with the Winnebago High School and as Title IV counsellor. She was also the owner and operator of the Winnebago Laundermat for 15 years.

She was a member of the Winnebago Village Board of Trustees and a charter member of the Siouxland National Bank on the board of directors. She served as mayor of the village of Winnebago and as commissioner of the Nebraska Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Lincoln, Neb.

Survivors include her children, Charles M. Frenchman of NeKoosa, Wis., James L. Frenchman, Richard L. Frenchman and Winona L. Frenchman Rice, all of Winnebago, Marian Dorothy Holstein of Walthill, Neb., and LaDonna Mae Holstein of LaGarde, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, Crystal Ross, Charleen, Richard III, Suzanne and Caroline Frenchman, Alan Gurneau, Joe Rice, Leo Holstein, Claudine Cohen, Jacob Prettyman Rosado and a grandson who was adopted out in 1960; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Charles M. and James L. Frenchman, Jerry and Jimmy Greendeer, Ralph Preston Jr. and Charles F. Rice.

Anna Brandt
SIBLEY, Iowa - Anna Brandt, 95, of Sibley died Tuesday at Country View Manor in Sibley.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Sibley. Burial will be in Holman Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present frm 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Walton, Roste and Vogel Funeral Home in Sibley.

Margaret N. Neville
HOLSTEIN, Iowa - Margaret N. Neville, 98, of Holstein died Monday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Presbyterian Church in Odebolt, Iowa. Burial will be in Ferguson Cemetery at Lake View, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m., at Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Fred Holtrop
HOSPERS, Iowa - Fred Holtrop, 87, of Fulda, Minn., formerly of Hospers, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Fulda, with the Rev. Gordon Moen officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. today in East Lawn Cemetery at Sheldon, Iowa. Totzke Funeral Home of Fulda is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Holtrop was born July 17, 1910, in Hospers, the son of John and Grietje (Renkema) Holtrop. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school near Hospers.

He was employed by several farmers.

He married Mary Bosch on March 3, 1936, near Sheldon. The couple farmed near Archer, Sanborn, Hospers and Matlock, Iowa. In 1958, they moved to a farm near Fulda. They moved into Fulda in 1970 and he retired in 1972. He entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in July 1997.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Matlock Reformed Church, where he served as deacon and treasurer, and the building committee for the American Reformed Church in Worthinton, Minn. He enjoyed horses, playing cards and shooting pool.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Lee and Glenda of Fulda and Gene and Prudie of Sibley, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Rod Jiskoot of Orange City, Iowa, and Marcia and Ron Baumgard of Fulda; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; a brother, John of Hospers; and a sister, Maggie Alons of Sanborn, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Leland Larsen
MANILLA, Iowa - Leland Larsen, 81, of Manilla, formerly of Irwin and Denison, Iowa, died Monday at Manning General Hospital in Manilla.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Irwin. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday at Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Lydia Ladenthin
LE MARS, Iowa - Lydia (Lang) Ladenthin, 88, of Le Mars died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mrs. Ladenthin was born Feb. 22, 1909, in rural Plymouth County in Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

She attended Sioux City Beauty College and operated Lydia's Beauty Shop for 35 years.

She married Herbert Ladenthin on April 10, 1951, in Le Mars. He died March 1, 1983. She entered Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in 1996.

She was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Sarah Circle and the Joy Ladies. She was the church organist for 60 years. She also was a past member of the National Hairdresser Society, the Sunshine Club and the "8 til Late Club.

Survivors include a brother and his wife, Don and Lois Lang of Le Mars; a brother-in-law and his wife, Harold and Anna Mae Ladenthin of Marcus, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Viola Lang and Mildred Lang, both of Le Mars, and Marjorie Ladenthin of Kingsley, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Edward and Eldon; and two sisters, Laura and Alvina.

Florence E. DeCora
WINNEBAGO, Neb. - Florence E. DeCora, 71, of Winnebago died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Winnebago Reformed Church, with the Rev. Darrell Dalman officiating. Burial will be in Winnebago Indian Cemetery. Winnebago Wake and Burial is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. DeCora was born July 15, 1926, in Winnebago. She attended school through the eighth grade. She was a long time resident of Winnebago.

She was a member of Winnebago Reformed Church.

Survivors include her son, Randy Cockeram of Albert Lea, Minn.; two brothers, David DeCora of Minneapolis, Minn., and Kenneth DeCora of Winnebago; a sister, Evelyn Peterson of Winnebago; a granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Gerben Earth, Mickey Armell, Wayne Kelsey, Richard and Mark DeCora and Joseph Littlegeorge.

Margaret Sundell
WAYNE, Neb. - Margaret Belle Sundell, 96, of Wayne died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at Wayne Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, Neb., with the Rev. Mark Wilms officiating. Burial will be in Wakefield City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bressler-Humlicek Funeral Home in Wakefield.

Mrs. Sundell was born Oct. 1, 1901, near Wayne, the daughter of Oscar and Virginia (Heikes) Milliken.

She attended Wayne County schools and graduated from Wayne High School in 1919. She attended Wayne Normal College and was trained as a stenographer and bookkeeper.

She was employed at the bank in Murdo, S.D., for two years.

She married Carl Sundell on Nov. 22, 1922, in Wayne. The couple farmed near Wakefield for 56 years. He died in 1978.

She remained on the farm until moving to Wayne in 1981. She had been a resident of Wayne Care Center for one month.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the WELCA, the Dorcas Ladies Aid, the Mission Society and the La Porte Club.

Survivors include four sisters-in-law, Mamie Milliken, Velma Milliken, Mildred Sundell and Edith Erickson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

HOLSTEIN, Iowa - Grace M. Leonard, 89, of Holstein died Sunday at Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Holstein. There will be no visitation. Barker Funeral Home of Holstein is in charge of the arrangements.

CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa - Lee Leonard Pry, 75, of Correctionville died Tuesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Church of Christ in Correctionville. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 ot 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.
