Elaine Lamb
Elaine Lamb, 78, of New London, Minn., formerly of Sioux City and Sloan, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minn.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer, Minn., with the Rev. Jack Anderson and the Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at New London. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
Mrs. Lamb was born Dec. 1, 1919, in Sloan, the daughter of Dwight A. and Gladys Lorraine (Goodwin) Hook. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.
She was raised in Sloan and graduated from Sloan Consolidated School in 1937. She received her bachlor of science degree from the University of Iowa in 1941.
She was employed as a legal secretary and paralegal secretary in Sioux City.
She married Verlyn Lamb on Jan. 1, 1946, in Omaha, Neb. The couple lived in Sioux City until retiring in 1973 and moved to the South shore of Nest Lake in Minnesota. He died Oct. 9, 1983.
She was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church, the Hope Presbyterian Women Groups, two groups of Bible study and in Sioux City the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and flowers.
Survivors include five sons, James and his wife, Karen, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Michael of Long Lake, Minn., David and his wife, Kay, of Caldwell, Idaho, Timothy of Willmar and Jonathan and his wife, Toni, of Atwater, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and three brothers, Gordon Heath of Tallapoosa, Ga., Robert "Gus" Heath of Gettysburg, S.D., and Larry Heath of of Byers, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Leo G. Uhl

Leo G. Uhl, 87, of Sioux City died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at his residence following a brief illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert J. Schimmer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Uhl was born July 12, 1910, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of William and Mary (Schoenherr) Uhl. He was raised on a farm in Bronson, Iowa.
He married Evelyn R. Mohrhauser on Nov. 26, 1936, in Mapleton.
He was employed with Cudahy's and Armour's packing plants, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; four sons and their wives, Arvin and Donna and Kenneth and Sally, all of Sioux City, and Larry and Sylvia and Thomas and Rose Mary, all of rural Merrill, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Mark, Christopher, Steven, Thomas, Robert and Michael Uhl.
Edna D. Reynders
Edna D. Reynders, 93, of Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Matney Morningside Manor.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Luke Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James L. Berka officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Reynders was born March 4, 1904, in Sioux City, the daughter of Lyman and Minnie Carnes.
She married Arthur W. Reynders on Oct. 25, 1920, in Sioux City. He died March 16, 1962, in Sioux City.
She was a charter member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and a member of the Girls of 68.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Bill and Shirley of Orangevale, Calif., Bob and Veloy of Plano, Texas, and Don and Shardell of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Jeanette and Bob Magnuson of New Braunfels, Texas, and Marilyn and Bill Johnson of Sioux City; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gene; a brother, Melvin; a sister, Cora Shrake; a daughter-in-law, Agnes Reynders; and a step great-granddaughter.
Memorials may be directed to St. Luke Lutheran Church building fund.
Aloysius S. Ryan
Aloysius S. "Al" Ryan, 84, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at an Omaha hospital following a brief
illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Marvin Boes officiating. Burial will be in Elk Point (S.D.) Cemetery. Visit-ation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Ryan was born Dec. 16, 1913, in Elk Point, the son of Stephen and Mary (Sullivan) Ryan. He was raised in the Salix, Iowa, area.
He married Hazel Bullis in 1950, in Sioux City. She died Jan. 10, 1966, in Sioux City.
He was employed with Woodbury County and later moved to Sioux City. He then worked for the city in the street department for many years.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 77.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Carol Ann and Keith Moran of Omaha; a brother, George of Sioux City; a sister, Nora Madison of Seattle, Wash.; and two grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer Moran.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Pallbearers will be Gene Schultz, Tom and Randy Ryan, Larry and Ray Harrington and Laurence Reynolds.
George T. Webster
George Thomas Webster, 92, of Sioux City died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at a local hospital following a sudden illness.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill G. Muller, pastor Riverside United Methodist Church, officiating. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Webster was born April 28, 1905, in Chicago, the son of George and Mary (Dowd) Webster Sr. The family moved to Sioux City in 1912. He attended Central High School in Sioux City.
He married Freda Albeck on Nov. 23, 1927, in Huron, S.D
He was employed with Armour and Company as paymaster until it closed in 1963, then as an auditor in Northwest Iowa for the state and as a bookkeeper for J. Myron Olson of Sioux City. He retired in the early 1980s.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Robert and Elaine of Woodstock, Ga.; and two daughters and their husbands, Mary Anne and David Sena of Silver Lakes, Calif., and Shirley and John Merrill of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Webster, Michael and Mark Sena and Brent, Thomas and Robert Merrill.
Ld. Robert Klesath
Ld. Robert Klesath, 77, of Bothell, Wash., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday at a Kirkland, Wash., hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Robert Reppert
WEST POINT, Neb. - Robert Reppert, 85, of West Point died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point, with the Rev. Dennis Maaske officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, with a prayer service 6:30 p.m., at Ben Stalp Funeral Home in West Point. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
Mr. Reppert was born Aug. 16, 1912, in West Point, the son of Earl and Frieda (Meier) Reppert. He attended school at St. Paul Parochial School in West Point, graduating from West Point High School in 1930.
He married Mildred Bargmann on April 22, 1939, in Norfolk, Neb.
He farmed in the West Point area and raised horses. He owned and operated Reptert Pony Sale Barn in the late 1950s and 1960s.
Mr. Reppert was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the American Quarter Horse Association and the Dustle and Beaus Square Dance Club.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Roger of Ireton, Iowa, and Clay and his wife, Susan, of West Point; a daughter-in-law, Donna Reppert of West Point; a sister, Katharine Weil of Sun City, Ariz.; a brother, Ray Reppert of Okoboji, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bert; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Reppert; four brothers and a sister.
Herman E. Grimes
GALVA, Iowa - Herman Elra Grimes, 89, formerly of Galva, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Texas.
The body was cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Galva.
Mr. Grimes was born in Des Moines and raised in Farnhamville, Iowa. He attended Iowa State Teachers College and moved to Galva in 1927.
He served in the Iowa National Guard.
He married Hazel Brown in 1928.
He was employed with Mantz Distributing Company until moving to Renton, Wash., in 1943, where he was employed as a liaison focal point with Pacific Car and Foundry. He was a go between with the Boeing Company and Pacific Car and Foundry.
He returned to Galva in 1945, where he was a managing partner in the Mantz Distributing Company, working in Ida, Sac, Buena Vista and Cherokee counties. In 1954, he sold his interests in the distributing company and purchased the Galva Hardware Store. He owned and operated the hardware store from 1954 until retiring in 1973.
The couple wintered in Mercedes, Texas, until moving there in 1993. She died in 1995.
In Galva, he was a member of First United Methodist Church and IOOF and was a 32nd degree Mason. He served on the Galva Commercial Club board, was a volunteer firefighter, served a term as fire chief and was involved with the Galva Centennial Celebration. He established and operated the Galvalon Theater.
In Texas, he was a member of the Gringo Men's Club, the Round Dance Club, the Bridge Club, the Art League and several craft clubs. He volunteered at a local school and founded and taught beginning art class program. The 1998 Llano Grande Art Show was dedicated in his memory for his contributions in art.
Survivors include a son and his wife, H. Gaylen and Eula of Panama City Beach, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Joan of Galva; a sister, Jena Mae Baumgardner of Santa Maria, Calif.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, R. Bradley, three sisters and a brother.
Onen Steines
HOSPERS, Iowa - Onen Steines, 92, of Hospers died Monday at Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City, Iowa.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Burial will be in Hospers Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at funeral home.
Timothy P. Bertelsen
MILFORD, Iowa - Timothy Paul Bertelsen, 28, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Milford, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Union Memorial Church in Milford, with the Rev. John Rosendaal officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Gardens Cemetery at Spirit Lake, Iowa. Turner Funeral Home of Milford is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Bertelsen was born May 26, 1969, in Battle Creek, Iowa, the son of Gary and Sandra (Wonder) Bertelsen. In 1982, the family moved from Anthon, Iowa, to Milford, where he graduated from high school in 1987.
He was employed with Eaton Corporation in Spencer, Iowa, until 1996, when he moved to Sioux Falls and was employed with Graco as a machinist.
He was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek.
He enjoyed boating, hunting and motorcycles. He raced snowmobiles for several years.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Sandra and Doug DeGroot of Milford; a daughter and her mother, Dakota Lake Bertelsen and Camille Hart, both of Sioux Falls; a son, Preston Bertelsen of Bella Vista, Ark.; two sisters, Shelley Willson of Spirit Lake and Tracey and her husband, Joe Lemire, of Menominee, Mich.; his grandmothers, Mildred Wonder of Lake Park, Iowa, and Bertha Bertelsen of Danbury, Iowa; and a niece and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; his grandfathers, Paul Wonder and Elmer Bertelsen; and his special friend, Bobbi Wolthuis.
Francis D. Burkhart
MAPLETON, Iowa - Francis Dale Burkhart, 72, of Mapleton died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Burkhart was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Hornick, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Violet (Van Cleve) Burkhart. He was baptized in the Christian faith.
He worked as a farm hand in the Holly Springs and Mapleton areas. He retired and lived in Mapleton.
Survivors include his special friend, Jo Ann Riessen of Mapleton; a brother and his wife, Clarence and Delores of Mapleton; a sister, Betty Jacoby of Mapleton; a half sister, Twila Oregon of Mapleton; and a half brother and his wife, Dean and Donna Payne of Castana, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Harley Payne.
Richard W. Carlson
LAUREL, Neb. - Richard W. Carlson, 98, of Laurel died Monday at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Neb.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at United Presbyterian Church in Laurel. Burial will be in Laurel City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Schumacher Funeral Home in Laurel.
Lewis A. Hammer
HOLSTEIN, Iowa - Lewis Arnold Hammer, 78, of Holstein died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein, with the Rev. Curtis Benson officiating. Burial will be in Holstein City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.
Mr. Hammer was born Jan. 4, 1920, in Danbury, Iowa, the son of John and Minnie (Krueger) Hammer. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended rural schools in the Danbury area.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific.
He married Norma Arp on Aug. 31, 1946, in Cherokee, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Battle Creek, Iowa, and Holstein area until retiring in 1988.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Peggy and Don Johannsen of Rickardsville, Iowa, and Jane and Don Breyfogle of Holstein; a son, John of Flandreau, S.D.; three grandsons, Chris, Matthew and Joseph Johannsen; a sister, Della Zahler of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Rachel Hammer of Ida Grove, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Wesley Husted of Battle Creek.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Bertha Huffman, Helen Husted and Doris Regas; and two brothers, Lester and Edwin.
The Rev. Warren Hietbrink
SIBLEY, Iowa - The Rev. Warren Hietbrink, 71, of Worthington, Minn., died Monday at Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at American Reformed Church in Worthington. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
