Lioba M. Wimmer
DANBURY, Iowa - Lioba "Obe" Mary Wimmer, 72, of Danbury died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m.
today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, with the Rev. David Hogan officiating. Burial will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Armstrong Funeral Home of Danbury and Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Wimmer was born March 31, 1925, in Danbury, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Reimer) Erlemeier. She was raised and educated in Danbury.
She married August E. Wimmer on June 10, 1946, in Danbury. The couple farmed in rural Danbury until retiring in 1986, when they moved into Danbury.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Rosary Society, where she held many offices, and the St. Mary's Choir. She was involved with the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and president of the Blue Army. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing and crafts.
Survivors include her husband; five daughters, Shirley and her husband Jim Eisenbacher of Phoenix, Ariz., Rita and her husband Dennis Nepper of Sioux City, Alice Hare of Cherokee, Iowa, Marian and her husband Melvin Pitts of Rembrandt, Iowa and Donna and her husband Stuart Dickman of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Raymond and Sherry of Herculaneum, Mo. and Michael and Linda of De Soto, Mo.; 23 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen and her husband Dick Flammang of Sioux City and Jean Ernest of Danbury.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth; her parents; and a brother, Ray.
Gary L. Savary
Gary L. Savary, 55, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Satur day at Riverside Lutheran Church, with Pastor Glen Schacht officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.
Mr. Savary was born Feb. 10, 1943, in Sioux City, the son of Sylvester and Louise (Bell) Savary. He attended Sioux City schools, graduating from Central High School in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the 185th Air National Guard.
He married Jean Holden on June 22, 1963, in Sioux City and later married Sharon Pearson. He married Sheryl Roupe on Sept. 19, 1997, in Elk Point, S.D.
He was employed with the Sioux City Fire Department for 32 years, assigned to Fire Station 1, truck 1. He became a Master Fire Fighter on March 1, 1976. He had also been employed with Concrete Pipe.
He was a member of the International Fire Fighters Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Jodi and David Kerns of Anthon, Iowa; a son, Jeff Savary of Oto, Iowa; a stepson, Rich Rupe of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Brandi, Meagan and Derrik Kerns; two brothers, Ernie and his wife JoAnn Savary of Sioux City and Steve Savary of Fargo, N.D.; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Jacobson of Frazee, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Kelly Hansen, Joel Plucker, Jack Holloway, Allen Kinzie, Richard Lindberg and Gary Stowers.
Fannie A. Lipshutz
Fannie A. Lipshutz, 98, of Sioux City died Wednesday Feb. 25, 1998, at a Sioux City care center.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday
at Congregation Beth Shalom with spiritual leader James Sherman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Lipshutz was born Aug. 10, 1899, the daughter of Charles and Bessie (Bunnen) Lipman, in Minsk, Russia. She was employed as a secretary with Hardware Mutual Ins. in Stevens Point, Wis. prior to her marriage. She married Morey E. Lipshutz on Aug. 19, 1923, in Stevens Point. He died Jan. 26, 1980, in Sioux City.
She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom and the former Shaare Zion Synagogue where she was a member of the Women's League. She was a life member of Hadassah and a life member of Brandeis University National Women's Committee. She was a former member of the Sioux City Women's Club.
Survivors include three sons, Burton and his wife, Louetta, of Sioux City, Robert and his wife, Elaine, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Stan of Ross, Calif; eight grandchildren, David, Martin, Howard, Greg, and Marianne Lipshutz, and Barbara Wynn, Ruth Bovey, and Katherine Frankel; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Lipman and a sister, Hannah Lipman.
Memorials in her name may be directed to Congregation Beth Shalom or Hadassah.

Susana Garcia, infant daughter of Enrique Garcia and Augustina Lozano of Sioux City, died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Calvary Cemetery. Larkin Northside Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Steven D. Bader
Steven D. Bader, 44, of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Hill of Rest Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux Falls, S.D. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Edward A. Bookhart, 79, of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery in Climing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Thomas G. Davelis
Thomas G. Davelis, 85, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today
at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Evangelos S. Pepps and the Rev. Thomas Begley officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.
Mr. Davelis was born Aug. 12, 1912, in Moline, Ill., the son of George and Angeline (Doulias) Davelis. He was raised in East Moline, Ill.
He married Efthemia Petros on Oct. 31, 1948, in East Moline. He was a self-employed businessman in East Moline. He owned and operated the Hat Shop and worked for the Rock Island Railroad. Then he owned and operated the 30/30 Club and the Greyhound Lounge in Rock Island, Ill.
He moved to Sioux City in 1960, and joined the family owned business. He was a partner in Harry's Hamburger from 1960 to 1968. He later owned and operated the Interstate Cafe until 1974, when he retired. Following his retirement, he worked at the lower nine stand at the Sioux City Country Club.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church where he was a past president of the church council. He was also a 50 year member of the order of A.H.E.P.A. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was an amateur boxer when he was younger.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, George and Joan of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter and her husband, Mary and John Baryo of Sioux City; two sisters, Sophia Katsis of Sioux City and Collete Spurgetis of Rock Island, Ill.; and four grandchildren, Mia Davelis, George, Tommy and Leah Baryo.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Angeliki; a brother, Andrew; a sister, Florence; and a granddaughter, Anna.
Pallbearers will be Tommy and George Baryo, Kirk Michaels, Dr. Bill Maskos, Sam Gianopoulos Gus Demetroulis, and Tom Eliades.
Memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
Eloise P. Moss
Eloise P. Moss, 94, of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. There will be no visitation. Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary A. Jackson, 85, of Sioux City died Wednesday at Sunrise Retirement Community after a long illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. and a Trisagion service at 8 p.m. at the Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home.

Monica D. Sands, 6-week-old infant daughter of James and Allison Sands of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Graceland Park Cemetery Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.

Kenneth C.Wayman, 71, of Sioux City died Friday; Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Lois M. Schnuelle
LYONS, Neb. - Lois M. Schnuelle, 67, of Lyons died Wednesday Feb. 25, 1998, at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at New Life Assembly of God in Lyons with the Rev. Rachel L. Meyers officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery at Decatur, Neb. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Palmquist-Pelan Funeral Home of Oakland is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Schnuelle was born April 4, 1930, the daughter of Ernest and Myrtle (Bowman) Davis, in rural Decatur, Neb. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1947. She graduated from Western Iowa Technical College in 1984, as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She married Clarence Schnuelle on Dec. 14, 1991, in Loveland, Colo. She was a member of the New Life Assembly of God in Lyons and the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Decatur.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Karen Sue Bradfield of Cortez, Colo., and Kathy Marie Adams of Boulder, Colo.; a son, Dave Glen Albrecht of Wakefield, Neb.; a stepson, Robert Schnuelle of Grand Island, Neb.; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Ashing of Lincoln, Neb., Angus Kroll of Saux, Iowa, and Mary McCluskey of Lyons; a brother, Kenny Davis of Decatur; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Glen Albrecht, and Clark Stocking; three brothers, Ernest "Kelly" Davis, John "Pete" Davis, and Lenton Davis; and a sister, Iva Kellog.
Genevieve Yanacheak
ANTHON, Iowa - Genevieve Marie Yanacheak, 79, of Anthon died Friday in Correctionville, Iowa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon. Burial will be in Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Sunday with a parish rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil wake service at 7 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.
Mabel Wynia
MARCUS, Iowa - Mabel Wynia, 90, of Marcus, formerly of Kingsley, Iowa, died Thursday Feb. 26, 1998, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Congregational United Church of Christ in Kingsley with the Rev. Robert Blair officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Ernest and Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.
Mrs. Wynia was born Nov. 4, 1907, the daughter of Carl and Selma (Pearson) Hansen, near Marcus. She attended school in Plymouth County. She married George Wynia on Nov. 26, 1926, in Le Mars. The couple lived in Hollandale, Minn. for six years before moving to the Grand Meadow area south of Marcus where they farmed for three years. They then moved northeast of Kingsley where they farmed for many years, retiring in 1975 and moving to Marcus. He died July 9, 1985.
She was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ in Kingsley and the Hobby Club in Marcus.
Survivors include two grandsons, Scott Wynia of Wildomar, Calif. and Mike Wynia of Anchorage, Alaska; a great-grandson; a daughter-in-law, Jeane Smith of Moorcroft, Wyo.; a brother-in-law, Fred Wynia of Clarks Grove, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Briggs of Cherokee, Iowa.
She was also preceded in death by two sons and two daughters in infancy; a son by adoption, Gerald; four brothers, Birger, Hugo, Oscar, and Elmer; and three sisters, Mary Ferrin, Elsie Olson, and Clara Lind.
Carl A. Peterson
MAPLETON, Iowa - Carl Andrew Peterson, 90, of Mapleton died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at Embassy Rehab and Care Center in Sergeant Bluff.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Smithland United Methodist Church in Smithland, Iowa with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mr. Peterson was born April 2, 1907, the son of John and Mary Kathryn (Chilton) Peterson, in Smithland. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Helen Hjort on Aug. 27, 1946, in Brainerd, Minn. The couple farmed in the Hornick, Iowa area, moving to Mapleton in 1987. She died Aug. 9, 1996.
He was a member of the American Legion Leslie Seaton Post 0666 of Smithland for over 50 years.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Bonnie and James F. Moran, of McCook Lake; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Scott; seven brothers; and four sisters.
M. Faye Paslay
CHEROKEE, Iowa - M. Faye Paslay, 99, of Cherokee, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee with the Rev. Gary Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. and a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Paslay was born Feb. 4, 1899, the daughter of Robert and Matilda (Turner) Harding, in Avena, Ill. She attended schools in Illinois. She married Clyde Paslay on Dec. 19, 1917, in Cherokee. He died July 18, 1981. The couple lived in Cherokee county for many years. She was a nurse's aide at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee and also worked as a private duty nurse.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Harry Steffen of Scottsbluff, Neb.; a daughter-in-law, LaVonne Paslay of Cherokee; a sister, Edna Richie of Monticello, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Sandee Johnson, Jon Steffen, Pam Haggar, Lee Steffen, Kathy Stimmler, Linda Siple, Dennis Paslay, and Deb Payne; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Paslay; and a daughter, Marjorie Steffen.

HOLSTEIN, Iowa - Dr. Robert R. Rognes, 72, of Holstein died Friday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

IDA GROVE, Iowa - Lloyd Whitney, 71, of Ida Grove died Tuesday at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Methodist Church in Ida Grove. Burial will take place at a later date. There will be no visitation. Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home of Ida Grove is in charge of the arrangements.

EMERSON, Neb. - Earl Elmer Messerschmidt, 75, of Emerson died Thursday at Aksarben Care Center.

Madelyne Huizenga
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Madelyne Huizenga, 65, of Orange City died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Ralph Pontier officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Mrs. Huizenga was born July 22, 1932, in Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Jansma) Statema. She was raised in Ireton. She married Otto Alvin Huizenga on May 8, 1957, in Ireton. They lived in Orange City and for many years operated O.& M. Grocery Stores in Orange City and Maurice, Iowa. She also operated the Dutch Kitchen Cafe in Orange City for many years.
She enjoyed cooking and was later employed at the Pioneer Memorial Home, the Christian Elementary School, Jansen's Food Center, and the Town House Restaurant, all in Orange City. She also catered out of her home. The couple were also custodians at Northwestern State Bank in Orange City.
She was an active member of the Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City, where she belonged to Ruth Society.
Survivors include her husband, six children and their spouses, LuAnn and Mark Wagenaar, Laura and Larry Plagerman, and Ruth and Bryon Schelling, all of Lynden, Wash., Beverly and Randy Van De Griend of Orange City, Maria and Mike Byker of Hospers, and Orlan and Rebecca Huizenga of Orange City; eleven grandchildren, Aaron, Caleb, and Adam Wagenaar, Kelvin and Melanie Plagerman, Nathaniel, Cassandra, and Blake Schelling, Rebecca and Jacob Van De Griend, and Klay Byker; four brothers, Arthur Statema of Ireton, Clarence Statema of Rock Valley, Iowa, Frank Statema of Zeeland, Mich., and Peter Statema of Ireton; and four sisters, Anna Zomermaand of Sioux Center, Iowa, Betty Sikma of Hull, and Geneva Burggraaf, and Priscilla De Jong, both of Rock Valley.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Statema.

SMITHLAND, Iowa - Viola Rose Utter, 68, of Smithland, formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday at the hospital in Onawa, Iowa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Monday with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
