Alice C. Boswell
Alice C. Boswell, 73, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, following a lengthy illness.
Private services will be held at a later date. Henke-Clarson-Holzhunter Funeral Home of Janesville, Wis. is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Boswell was born May 7, 1924, in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of David and Alice (Seiler) Campbell. She graduated from Iowa State University.

She married Robert L. Boswell in 1946.

She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, the Junior Service League in Sioux City and was active in the Nature Conservancy in Naples.

Survivors include four sons, Craig and his wife Mary of Janesville, Wis., Robert and his wife Marjorie of Tehachapi, Calif., Kirk and James, both of New Orleans, La.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Richard.

Memorials may be directed to the Iowa State University of Veterinary Medicine in Ames, Iowa.

Helen A. Collins
Helen A. Collins, 70, of Dakota City died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at a Wayne, Neb. hospital.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Bill Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Walthill, Neb. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Collins was born Feb. 21, 1927, in rural Dakota City, the daughter of William D. and Florence L. (Hansen) Sanford.

She married Robert G. Collins in 1946. She was a life long Dakota City resident.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Ron and Rita of Hubbard, Neb.; two daughters, Carol Collins of Beatrice, Neb. and Shirlee and her husband Jim Gunn of Laurel, Neb.; a brother, George Sanford of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Zella O'Shaughnessy of South Sioux City and Theresa Johnson of Sloan, Iowa; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Mary E. McGuill
Mary E. McGuill, 99, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at her residence following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Nativity, with Monsignor Michael D. Sernett officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Larkin Morningside Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. McGuill was born July 27, 1898, in Fall River, Mass., the daughter of James and Bridget (Connelly) O'Hare. She was raised in Fall River.

She married Joseph J. McGuill Sr. on June 26, 1917, in Fall River. He died Sept. 1, 1982, in Sioux City. The couple moved to Sioux City from Boston, Mass., in 1923. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Cathedral of the Epiphany, now a member of Church of the Nativity. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, William H. and Bobbie of Albuquerque, N.M. and Joseph J. Jr. and Jean of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Ann Marie Peters
Ann Marie Peters, 94, of Sioux City died Thursday at the Sunrise Retirement Community.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Warren R. Stienstra
Warren R. Stienstra, 73, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Elwood Rieke officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Stienstra was born June 22, 1924, in Sioux City, the son of Peter and Florence (Mosher) Stienstra. He graduated form Central High School in 1942. He received a B.S. and B.S.A. degree from the University of Iowa in 1945 and a J.D. in 1950.

He married Mary Sarah "Sally" Whiting on Nov. 2, 1946, in Iowa City, Iowa. He was an attorney with Nelson-Stienstra Law Firm for 12 years, the Margolin-Goldblatt-Stienstra Law Firm for 20 years and mostly recently practiced solely. He was also an assistant city attorney for three years.

He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he flew 63 combat missions as a navigator in China. He was also a prisoner of war for 10 months in Lornai, China.

He was a member of First Christian Church, where he was a choir member and served on the church board and the building committee, the American Legion Monahan Post 64, the 14th Air Force Association, the Landmark Lodge 103 A.F. & A.M., where he was a 33rd degree Mason, the Sioux City Consistory and the Heather Highlanders. He was a former member of the Abu Bekr Shrine, where he was in the Chanters, the Iowa Highlander of Iowa City and the Sioux City Noon Lions Club. He was also an Eagle Scout.

He was a board member of the Sioux City Art Center and was active in the Sioux City Community Theater and served on and was a former president of the board of directors. He enjoyed photography, gardening and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Lornai L. "Lori" and Mike McCline of Sioux City and Jane M. and Joel Hathaway of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a son, Peter M. of Richardson, Texas; five grandchildren, Gabriel Potash, Christian and Alicia McCline, Kayla and Justin Hathaway; and two brothers, Robert G. Stienstra of Palo Alto, Calif. and Glenwood H. Wilson of Richardson, Texas.

He was preceded in death by a son, Roger W.

A memorial has been established in his name.

Charlene A. "Charlie" Blackstone of Sioux City died Thursday; Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

WESTFIELD, Iowa - Violet Marie Brouillette, 83, of Westfield died Wednesday at the Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Burial will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery at Jefferson, S.D. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Delmer C. Drefke
MARCUS, Iowa - Delmer C. "Slim" Drefke, 88, of Marcus died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Daniel Quinn officiating. Burial will be in Marcus-Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Earnest and Roethler Funeral Chapel in Marcus.

Mr. Drefke was born July 18, 1909, in Liberty Township, rural Cherokee County, Iowa, the son of Herman and Margaretha "Maggie" (Specht) Drefke. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith. He attended school in Cherokee County and graduated from Marcus High School in 1929.

He married Madge Barnes on Aug. 1, 1934, in Marcus. He was employed with Farmers Co-op Elevator Company and the Community Co-op Oil Company. In 1938, he began farming in Amherst Township. He semi-retired in 1963, and moved to Marcus. He continued to help on the farm, retiring in 1990.

He was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church, where he held many offices and served on the building committee. He was an A.S.C.S. committeeman for Amherst County, Cherokee County, had served on the board at the Farmers Co-op Elevator Company and the board of review in Cherokee County.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Max and Nancy and Dr. Ray and Ann, all of Marcus; a twin brother, Delbert "Shorty" Drefke of Marcus; six grandchildren, Donna, LuAnn, Kenneth, Brent, Kyle and Scott Drefke; and three sisters-in-law, Rena Drefke of Marcus, Harriet Barnes of Chandler, Ariz. and Vera Roberson of Le Mars, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Forest.

Hubert Duitman
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Hubert Duitman, 98, of Sioux Center died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. John Witvliet officiating. Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Duitman was born Dec. 15, 1899, in Alto Township, Wis., the son of Luther and Dora (Kempers) Duitman.

He married Alice Van Buren in 1923. She died in 1950. He married Ethel Lammers on Aug. 31, 1951. She died in 1994.

He was a resident of Alto Township until 1968, when he moved to Bradenton, Fla. He lived there until 1986, when he moved to Sioux Center. He was employed as a salesman with McNess Products for 22 years. He also worked for the Alto Creamery and with his father as a painter and paper hanger.

He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and a former member of Alto Reformed Church and Alto Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Henry and Lisa of Sioux Center; two granddaughters, Elayna and Jennifer Duitman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Duitman; four brothers, Harry, in infancy, Edwin, Harry II and Elmer; and two sisters, Dorothy and Laura Wessels.

Doris Hall
CONCORD, Neb. - Doris Hall, 91, formerly of Concord, Norfolk, Neb. and Sioux City died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at the Pavilion Nursing Home in McKinney, Texas.
Burial was in Oceanside, Calif.

Helen Knutzen
UTE, Iowa - Helen Knutzen, 87, of Ute died Thursday at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak.

Gerrit Van Maanen
ROCK VALLEY, Iowa - Gerrit Van Maanen, 95, of Rock Valley died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at the Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Nielson and the Rev. Donna Van Maanen officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Visitation with the family will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Van Maanen was born Nov. 21, 1902, in Ede, the Netherlands, the son of Jande and Leutje (Vander Berg) Van Maanen. He moved with his family to the United States and northwest Iowa in February 1910.

He married Henrietta Timmer on Nov. 1, 1929, in Rock Rapids, Iowa. The couple made their home in Rock Valley. She died Dec. 13, 1959.

He married Lucille Hylarides on Nov. 21, 1960, in Rock Valley. The couple made their home in Rock Valley, where he was employed as an assistant manager of the Farmers Elevator for 35 years.

He was a member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church, where he taught adult Sunday School, the Rock Valley Senior Men's Club and the Kwanis Club. He was a fireman in Rock Valley for 34 years.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, John and Lois Van Maanen of Sheldon, Iowa, Bill and Joann Van Maanen of Rock Valley and Larry and Nancy Hylarides of Le Sueur, Minn.; a sister, Tena Van Marel of Orange City, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bert and Walt Van Maanen; and two sisters, Nellie Driesen and Gert Rus.

Arie Van Tol
ROCK VALLEY, Iowa - Arie Van Tol, 86, of Rock Valley died Wednesday at the Valley Manor in Rock Valley.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at Doon, Iowa. Visitation will begin at noon today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Felix L. Wiseman
MAGNOLIA, Iowa - Felix L. Wiseman, 73, of Magnolia died Wednesday at the Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Neb.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Magnolia Methodist Church. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Heisler Cemetery near Mapleton, Iowa. Fouts Funeral Home of Woodbine, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Lucille M. Zenor
LAWTON, Iowa - Lucille M. Zenor, 91, of Lawton died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Peters officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Mrs. Zenor was born June 30, 1906, near Lawton, the daughter of Frank and Martha (Stebner) Hefner.

She married Chester E. Zenor on Dec. 9, 1933, in Dakota City. He died July 19, 1983.

She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church, the Ladies Aid Society and the Variety Club.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Don and Ramonde of Lawton; a daughter, Juella Zenor of Tacoma, Wash.; three grandchildren, Barbra Bowman, Martin and Michael Zenor; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frances Hefner of Sioux City.

Memorials in her name may be directed to Community Presbyterain Church.

Joan C. Zink
LE MARS, Iowa - Joan C. Zink, 58, of Le Mars died Wednesday at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Le Mars Bible Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of the arrangements.
