Mary Ellen Dather, 69, of Sioux City died Friday at her residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Agnes M. "Pat" Dow, 92, of Sioux City died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Casa de Paz.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Marvin J. Boes officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Dow was born Aug. 3, 1905, in Cozad, Neb., the daughter of John and Agnes (Roach) Corcoran. She moved with her family to Sioux City as a child.
She married F. Howard Dow in 1921, in Sioux City. He died March 1977, in Sioux City. She was employed with T.S. Martin Department Store for many years.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, the Carmelite Guild and the Third Order of St. Francis.
Survivors include two sons, Derrell and Dennis, both of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Dow, and five half-brothers, James, William, Frank, John and Harry Corcoran.
Pallbearers will be Peter Clawson, Lance Henken, William McCarthy, Donald Stusse, John Tritz and Erich Westrick.
Mabel B. Speulda
Mabel B. Speulda, 93, of Sioux City died Saturday at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
Evelyn L. Hult, 78, of Weslaco, Texas, formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Margaret H. Andre
MECKLING, S.D. - Margaret Henrietta Andre, 78, of Meckling died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, S.D.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bergen Lutheran Church in rural Meckling, with the Rev. Barbara Stoud-Borth officiating. Burial will be in Bluff View Cemetery at Vermillion. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home in Vermillion.
Mrs. Andre was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Fullerville, S.D., the daughter of Pearl and Pauline (Peterson) Clark. She moved with her family to Artesian, S.D. for a few years before returning to the family farm near Meckling. She attended Meckling Consolidated School.
She married Elmer H. Andre on Jan. 4, 1936, in Elk Point, S.D. He died April 17, 1991. The couple live on the family farm for 46 years, then moved into Meckling.
She was a member of Bergen Lutheran Church, the Vermillion Rebekah's, served as president of the Meckling Lutheran and Bergen Lutheran WELCA and the Meckling Cemetery Circle.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Janice and Clifford Miller of Gayville, S.D.; two sons, William E. of Sioux City and Robert D. and his wife Wanda of Mapleton, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Michelle Hauck, Celeste Brantolino, Jason and Carlton Miller, Marcus, Erica, Brian, Sara and Kristin Andre; a great-grandson; a foster granddaughter, Wendy Kaldun; and a stepbrother, Herman Walraven of Yankton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Margaret Elaine Andre.
Frances Barnable
LE MARS, Iowa - Frances Barnable, 81 of Le Mars died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998 at Plymouth Manor Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Richard Ries and Monsignor Michael Sernett officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today with a Altar Society rosary at 4 p.m., a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., and a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Miss Barnable was born June 27, 1916, the daughter of William and Edith (Dennler) Barnable in Plymouth County, Iowa. She attended Union Consolidated High School in Union Township and National Business College in Sioux City. She worked for many years as an insurance underwriter with Le Mars Mutual Insurance Company.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America for over 50 years, and Peer Program. She was very active in her church and volunteer work.
Survivors include a brother and his wife, Harold and Sue of Le Mars; two nieces; two nephews; two great-nephews; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Barnable of Bloomington, Calif.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Emmett and Wayne; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen.
Millicent Brauch
LE MARS, Iowa - Millicent Brauch, 92, of Le Mars died Saturday at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday, with a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m., a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. and a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 7:30 p.m., at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Homer De Boer
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Homer Wendell De Boer, 75, of Orange City died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Robert Vander Schaaf and the Rev. Robert Hector officiating. Burial will be prior to the service Tuesday in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. There will be a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. De Boer was born Dec. 25, 1922, in Alton, Iowa, the son of Douwe D. and Johanna "Anna" (Rowenhorst) De Boer. He was raised on a farm near Alton. He graduated from Northwestern Classical Academy and Junior College in Orange City. He also attended the Grand Island, Neb. Business School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Kathryn Mae Wielenga on May 15, 1945, in Orange City. The couple made their home in Orange City, where he was first employed with the International Harvester dealer. He later was an independent accountant, then became a representative of Investor Diversified Services, which later became American Express Financial Advisors.
He was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir, and the Booster Club. He was a 51 years member of Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post 329 in Orange City. He was active in 4-H and enjoyed raising sheep.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, three sons and their wives, Larry and Carol of Hawarden, Keith and Sheila and Alan and Carey, all of Orange City; two daughters and their husbands, Rita and Dan De Jong of Sioux City and Karyn and Kenneth Cook of Midland, Texas; eight grandchildren, Aaron, Patrick, Lance, Drew, Brent and Kolton De Boer, Lewis and Maria De Jong; two sisters, Charlotte Meyer of Le Mars, Iowa and Charlene Kloster of Longmont, Colo.; and a brother, Robert of Alton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dudley.
Memorials will be directed to diabetes research.

LAUREL, Neb. - Famy Ericson, 94, of Laurel died Sunday at the Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Neb.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Laurel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Schumacher Funeral Home in Laurel.

ALTA, Iowa - Martha Anna Fahr, 88, of Alta died Saturday at the Cherokee Villa in Cherokee, Iowa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church at rural Alta. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Barker Funeral Home in Alta. Visitation will resume from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Bertha J. Granstra
SHELDON, Iowa - Bertha J. Granstra, 83, of Sheldon died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. John Vermeer officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Mrs. Granstra was born March 10, 1914, near Hospers, Iowa, the daughter of Dick and Jennie (Roetman) Zwagerman. She attended country school in the Hospers area.
She married Cornie Granstra on Sept. 12, 1934, near Sheldon. The couple was involved in a trucking business and later in livestock farming in the Sheldon area. She entered the Oak Park Care Center in September 1995.
She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and the Golden Hour Circle. She enjoyed cooking and hand work.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Burnette Sawyer of Sheldon; a son and his wife, Dixon and Esther of Sheldon; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandsons; and a sister, Rosella Roos of Sibley, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Charles Joe Sawyer; a sister, Kate Cleveringa; and a brother, John Zwagerman.
John Groen
ROCK VALLEY, Iowa - John Groen, 78, of Rock Valley died Saturday at the Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

AKRON, Iowa - Reke "Eva" A. Huls, 98, of Hawarden, formerly of Akron, Iowa, died Friday at the Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, Jan. 26, 1998, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. Burial will be in Brule Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery at Spink, S.D. Schroeder Funeral Home of Akron is in charge of the arrangements.
James O. Hulser
SUTHERLAND, Iowa - James Otis Hulser, 64, of Sutherland died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at United Methodist Church in Sutherland, with the Rev. Dean McPherson officiating. Burial will be in Waterman Cemetery. Warner Funeral Home of Sutherland is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Hulser was born June 2, 1933, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Otis and Ludema (Haye) Hulser. He was raised in the Sutherland area and graduated from high school.
He married Pat Endersbe on Nov. 8, 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. The couple made their home in Sutherland. He was employed as a truck driver with AMPI in Sanborn for 37, years. He enjoyed auctions, flea markets and antiquing. He was a volunteer with Willoway.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Jay and Jeanne of Kalona, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Jil and Mike Kellen of Shalimar, Fla. and Jana and Mike Back of Hartley, Iowa; and seven grandchildren, Jenna and Jasmin Hulser, Michael and Emily Kellen, Kassi, Matthew and Clairissa Back.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Tena Jasperse
SHELDON, Iowa - Tena Jasperse, 94, of Sheldon died Thursday at the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Merle I. Lykken
ALCESTER, S.D. - Merle Isaac Lykken, 50, of Alcester died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at his residence of a brain tumor.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roseni Lutheran Church in rural Beresford, S.D. Burial will be in Roseni Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the Wass Funeral Home in Beresford. Visitation will resume at 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church.
Mr. Lykken was born March 15, 1947, in Beresford, the son of Isaac and Esther (Lakness) Lykken. He attended Nora Grade School and graduated from Alcester High School in 1965. He attended Springfield College for a semester, then returned to the family farm.
He married Marie Chritopherson on April 4, 1970, in Beresford. In 1991, the couple moved to Garrison, N.Y., where he was employed as a maintenance director and director of evangelism with the Walter Hoving Home. He returned to the family farm in 1993, and farmed.
He was a member of Roseni Lutheran Church and Faith Fellowship Church. He became an emergency medical technician in 1995. He enjoyed skiing, camping and horseback riding.
Survivors include his parents of Alcester; his wife; a son, John of Alcester; two brothers, Kerwyn of Alcester and David of Sioux Falls, S.D.; four sisters and their husbands, Karen and Gary Kratochvil of Sioux Falls, Barbara and Dennis Dahlin of Hawarden, Iowa, Diane and Bill Bruns of Madison, S.D. and Nancy and Steve Bell of Vermillion, S.D.; his grandmother, Agnes Lakness of Beresford; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Corrie and a niece.
Lenora C. Raher
HAWARDEN, Iowa - Lenore C. Raher, 100, of Hawarden died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at the Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Marvin Boes officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Porter-Dow Funeral Home of Hawarden is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Raher was born April 25, 1897, near Oyens, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (Smith) Galles. She was raised on a farm in Plymouth County, Iowa.
She married Daniel Raher. The couple lived in Granville, Hawarden, and Sioux City. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Daniel of Hemet, Calif., Jerome of Las Vegas, Nev. and Ralph of Vista, Calif.; four daughters, Mary Aldrich of Sioux City, Lorna Keller of Des Moines, Donna and her husband Jim Murray of Milford, Iowa and Noreen Burkholder of Aurora, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Raher of Sioux City; a brother, Jude Gallas of Remsen, Iowa; a sister, Marie Wagner of Le Mars, Iowa; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three children, Geneva Mongar, Sylvan Raher and Margery Raher; two grandchildren, Stacey Newberry and Shelley McCandless; three brothers, Hill, Louis and Alphonse Galles; and a sister, Armella Heidesch.
Marie T. Schmidt
ANTHON, Iowa - Marie Theresa Schmidt, 85, of Anthon died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at the Correctionville, Iowa Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Anthon, with the Rev. Kent Kastler officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.
Mrs. Schmidt was born Dec. 27, 1912, in Morgan Township, Woodbury County, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence Martin and Fannie Louise (Clausen) Hansen. She attended country school in the Anthon area.
She married John Schmidt on Jan. 18, 1934, in Sioux City. He died Nov. 26, 1975. She entered Colonial Manor in Correctionville in July 1997.
She was a member of United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Jerry and Wanda of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Tom and Sylvia Hansen of Hinton, Iowa; six sister, Margaret Callamore of Tacoma, Wash., Thressia and her husband Art Klein of Moville, Iowa, Emma Schmidt, Rose Lille, Dorothy Nelson and Darlene Jensen, all of Anthon; two grandchildren, Carol Mae MaClure and Curtis Schmidt; three great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Irene Schmidt of Kingsley, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Viola Anderson; two grandchildren, Susan Anderson and Randy Schmidt; and two brothers, Peter and John Hansen.

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - Edna Mabel Steinberg, 86, of Rock Rapids died Saturday at her residence.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

SCHALLER, Iowa - Amy G. VanBuskirk, 97, of Schaller died Sunday at the Odebolt, Iowa Nursing and Rehab Center.

Melvin Wiese
WAKEFIELD, Neb. - Melvin Wiese, 74, of Wakefield died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at the Heritage of Emerson, Neb.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Emerson. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery at Dakota City, Neb. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Wiese was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Plainview, Neb., the son of Alfred and Clara Wiese. He served in the U.S. Army.
He married Bonnie Conner on Oct. 15, 1953, in Emerson. The couple lived in the Pender, Emerson and Wakefield area. He was employed with Waldbaums in Wakefield for 30 years. He entered the Heritage of Emerson in 1991.
Survivors include his wife of Dakota City; two sons, Dennis of South Sioux City and Garry of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Kelly and Art Parr of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Robyn, Devon, Joshua and Noah; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marie.
