Julia E. Vellinga
Julia E. Vellinga, 76, of Sioux City, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home with the Rev. George Morey officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Vellinga was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Vermillion, S.D., the daughter of George and Rebecca (Brazil) Hanson. She moved with her family to Sioux City when she was 9.

She married John R. Vellinga Feb. 16, 1925, in Sioux City. He died July 17, 1996, in Sioux City.

Survivors include four sons: Joe Alioth of California, Terry Alioth and his wife, Noi, of Tampa, Fla., John Vellinga and his wife, Emilee, of St. Charles, Mo., and Dennis Vellinga of Sioux City; five daughters: Darlene Holmes and her husband, Bud, of Vancouver, Wash., Lucille Cooper and her husband, Curtis, of Arizona, Karen Borrink of Neola, Iowa, Deanna D'Agosto and her husband, Alan, of Omaha, and Kathy Vellinga of Sioux City; four brothers: Edward, Kenneth and Robert Hanson, all of Sioux City, and Richard Hanson of Deshler, Neb.; two sisters: Betty Desterhouse of Valley, Neb., and Delores Wiasenen of Sioux City; 24 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, her parents, a son, Edward, a daughter, Sandra, and a brother, Clarence.

Pallbearers will be Patrick, Andrew and Nicholas D'Agosto and David Borrick.

Mabel B. Speulda
Mabel B. Speulda, 93, of Sioux City died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at a Sioux City nursing home after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Tomlinson, pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Speulda was born March 17, 1904, in Decatur, Neb., the daughter of George and Nettie (Jackson) Goodwin.

She married Floyd Loux on Nov. 15, 1922, in Onawa, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Sioux City area and rural Dakota County. He died Dec. 3, 1942.

She married Carl A. Speulda on Sept. 20, 1974, in Laverne, Minn.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Lloyd and Phyllis Loux of South Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Janice and Floyd Clark of Dakota City; a brother, Jack Goodwin of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy, seven brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Willard Meisel, Ron Peter, Gary Clark, Mike Johnson, Brian Wilson and Tracy McClarnon.

Mary Ellen Dather
Mary Ellen Dather, 69, of Sioux City died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dann Speichinger of Washington Heights Chapel officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dather was born on Jan. 5, 1929, in Ceres, Va., the daughter of Thomas Jessie and Bertie Gray Cullop. She was raised in Ceres, moved to Alexandria, Va., and then to Norfolk, Neb., Fort Knox, Ken., Fort Lenard Wod, Mo., and Sioux City.

She married Kenneth H. Dather Sr. on July 25, 1955, in Maryland.

She was a member of Washington Heights Chapel.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, David and his wife, Cyndee, of Milford, Iowa, Kenneth Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Sioux City, and Kelli and Vicki Ford of Sergeant Bluff; three daughters, Sheila G. Ford and Linda and her husband, Eric Larsen, all of Sioux City, and Pamela and her husband, Doug Proffitt, of Des Moines; four sisters, Hazel Hubble, Margaret and her husband, Jack Warner, Catherine Atwell, and Olivine and her husband, Grant Hall; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers, Robert, Jack, Joseph, Eugene, Raymond, Everett and Conley.

Kirk Hanson, 62, of Sioux City, died Monday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Laura Lee Martinson
ALLEN, Neb. - Laura Lee Martinson, 22, of Allen died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital from an unknown virus.
Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Atkinson, Neb., with the Rev. Donna Dudley and the Rev. Duane Marburger officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Atkinson. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Allen.

Mrs. Martinson was born Aug. 4, 1975, in Atkinson, the daughter of Dennis and Janette Kliment. She attended District 102 country school near Atkinson and West Holt High School. She also attended Wayne State College.

On Aug. 24, 1996, she married Jody Martinson in Atkinson. The couple resided in Allen.

She was employed as a sales clerk at JC Penney in Sioux City.

On Jan. 20, 1998, she gave birth to Seth Lee, he remains at a Sioux City hospital.

She enjoyed the outdoors and being with friends, and lived her life to the fullest.

Survivors include her husband; infant son, Seth Lee Martinson; her father and his wife, Dennis and Janet Kliment of Atkinson; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Berry and Linda Martinson of Allen; a brother and his wife, Darrin and Susan Kliment of Milford, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Christy and Doug Breiner of Atkinson; grandparents, Albert and Betty Wasson of Ainsworth, Neb., Louis and Lillian Kliment of Atkinson and Dorothy Anderson of Allen; and sisters-in-law, Melissa and her husband, Todd Sullivan, of Emerson, Stephanie and her husband, Steve Sullivan, of Ponca, Neb., and Stacey Martinson of Allen.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Pallbearers will be Lane Anderson, Curtis Oswald, Tyler Schroeder, Myron Wasson, Thad Wasson and Toby Wasson.

Edward M. Reck
SIBLEY, Iowa - Edward M. Reck, 64, of Sibley, Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa, with the Rev. Henry Thorberg officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

Arlo J. Schoenfeld
CHARTER OAK, Iowa - Arlo J. Schoenfeld, 65, of Charter Oak, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Charter Oak. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak.

Mr. Schoenfeld was born Dec. 26, 1932, the son of Arthur and Hilda (Thun) Schoenfeld, on a farm near Charter Oak. He attended Charter Oak community schools.

Following high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 serving in Germany. He was discharged in 1955.

He married Mary Ellen Hyer on June 25, 1955, in Washington, D.C. The couple moved to a farm south of Charter Oak, where they lived until moving into Charter Oak in 1986. He farmed and served as a justice of the peace and later served as the Crawford County magistrate judge for 39 years.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak and the Western Iowa Two-Cylinder Club. He enjoyed collecting John Deere tractors and toy John Deere tractors.

Survivors include a daughter, Carrie Sizemore and her husband, Joe, of Mooresville, N.C., and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a daughter, Cecilia Ellen.

Harlan Wynja
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Harlan Wynja, 38, of Sioux Center died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at his residence following a short illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Mark De Witt and the Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Mr. Wynja was born Oct. 6, 1959, in Sioux Center, the son of Joe and Mary Jean (De Zeeuw) Wynja. He was born with cerebral palsy and attended Hope Haven in Rock Valley for seven years.

He was greatly interested in his family and friends and corresponded with several pen pals. He enjoyed his church and sports of all kinds. He collected T-shirts from all over the world and was keenly interested in anything that pertained to Texas.

Survivors include his mother; three brothers, Brent and his wife, Maggie, of Ames, Iowa, Leslie of Sioux Center, and Carl and his wife, Lori, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister and her husband, Dave Olivier of Rock Valley, Iowa; and four nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father on Nov. 28, 1990.

Goldie M. Volsansky
WALTHILL, Neb. - Goldie M. Volsansky, 75, of Walthill died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Pender Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, with the Rev. Brion Tolzman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 3 p.m., at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Walthill.

Mrs. Volsansky was born Jan. 6, 1923, near Walhill, the daughter of William and Anna (Krei) Wingett. She attended rural school near Walthill, graduating from Walthill High School in 1940. She attended business school in Omaha.

She began working for ASC in 1942, and remained there full and part time for 37 years.

She married Frank Volsansky Jr. on Feb. 10, 1948. The couple farmed in the Thurston and Walthill area. He died March 31, 1991.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She was active in Walthill Senior Citizens.

Survivors include two brothers-in-law, Joe Volsansky and his wife, Shirley, of Sacramento, Calif., and Loren Strong of Pender, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Uldine Strong of Pender; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Marvin, Clarence, Evard and Charles; a sister, Renna Kubik; and a nephew, Dennis Wingett.

Russel D. Thompson
LAWTON, Iowa - Russel D. Thompson, 51, of Lawton died Sunday at a Sioux City hospital following a sudden illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Nazarene Church in Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Dollene Thietje
HARTLEY, Iowa - Dollene Thietje, 68, of Hartley died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Church of Christ at Hartley. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. today with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Sanborn Funeral Home.

Helen J. Smith
BRONSON, Iowa - Helen Jean Smith, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at her residence.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson with Dr. Robert E. Peters officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be from noon until 8:30 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 21, 1923, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Thomas and Vera (Smith) McGinnis. She attended Central High School in Sioux City.

She married George W. Smith on Oct. 23, 1942, in South Sioux City. He died on Dec. 16, 1976, in Sioux City.

In 1929 she moved to Sioux City from Cincinnati and in 1945 she moved to Bronson.

She was a homemaker and was affectionately known as "Grandma Jean."

She was a member of Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Gena Loveall of Bronson; two brothers, Denny McGinnis of Sioux City and Mike McGinnis of Alpine, Calif.; five sisters, Mrs. Kenny (Clarice) Taylor of Apache Junction, Ariz., Mrs. Gene (Bonnie) Rissell of Sioux City, Mrs. John (Darlene) Hoing of Sioux City, Mrs. Arlen (Carol) Mueller of Mulvane, Kan., and Mrs. Jack (Sharon) Cunningham of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Clint and Lance Loveall; a great grandchild; four brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Don and Pat McGinnis, and two sisters: Virginia Inman and Shirley Hughes.

Pallbearers will be John Fiala, Ron Lewon, Gary Lewon, George Clay, Randy Hoing and Larry Hoing.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Siouxland.

Lenora C. Raher
HAWARDEN, Iowa - Lenora C. Raher, 100, of Hawarden died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Marvin Boes officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the church. Porter-Dow Funeral Home of Hawarden is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Raher was born April 25, 1897, near Oyens, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (Smith) Galles. She was raised on a farm in Plymouth County.

She married Daniel Raher. The couple lived in Granville, Hawarden, and Sioux City. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, Daniel of Hemet, Calif., Jerome of Las Vegas, Nev., and Ralph of Vista, Calif.; four daughters, Mary Aldrich of Sioux Center, Lorna Keller of Des Moines, Donna and her husband, Jim Murray, of Milford, Iowa and Noreen Burkholder of Aurora, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Raher of Sioux City; a brother, Jude Galles of Remsen, Iowa; a sister, Marie Wagner of Le Mars, Iowa; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three children, Geneva Mongar, Sylvan Raher and Margery Raher; two grandchildren, Stacey Newberry and Shelley McCandless; three brothers, Hill, Louis and Alphonse Galles; and a sister, Armella Heidesch.

HARTLEY, Iowa - Elsie Adolph, 96, of Hartley died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley.
Services will be at 5 p.m. today at Sanborn Funeral Home in Sanborn. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Visitation will be after 10:30 a.m. today at the funeral home.

ARCHER, Iowa - Gordon Baxter, 93, of Archer died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar, Iowa.

Loren Borman
ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - Loren Borman, 76, of Rock Rapids, formerly of Hadley, Minn., died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids with the Revs. Robert Moritz and Dennis Nicholson officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

LeRoy F. Harpenau
LE MARS, Iowa - LeRoy Francis Harpenau, 63, of Le Mars died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital of complications from Shy-Drager Syndrome.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens, Iowa, with the Rev. Randy Schon officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery in Oyens. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at St. Catherine's. A rosary will be said at 3 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight, followed by the Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m.

Mr. Harpenau was born May 25, 1934, in Le Mars, the son of John and Philomena (Langel) Harpenau. He graduated from Remsen St. Mary's High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He married Marlene Kneip on May 29, 1956, in Le Mars. For the next 41 years, the couple farmed near Oyens.

He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Wasmar Post No. 241 and the Columbus Club.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Brian and his wife, Tonya, of Le Mars; four daughters: Kathie Nelson and her husband, Roger, of Humboldt, Kristie Hirschman and her husband, Myron, of Winterset, Sharon Weiler and her husband, Pat, of Pella, and Mary Beth Schorg and her husband, Rick, of Lawton; five brothers: Robert and his wife, Jeanette, of Le Mars, Don and his wife, Ione, of Diamond Bar, Calif., Bill of Remsen, Ray and his wife, Shirley, of Remsen and Tom and his wife, Sharon, of Enid, Okla. four sisters: Doris Bergner of Lancaster, Calif., Vernell Chapman and her husband, Jerry, of Le Mars and Margie Frericks and her husband, Richard, and Helen Galles and her husband, Paul, all of Remsen, and 12 grandchildren: Kristin, Mitchell, Leann and Garrett Nelson, Kathie (Malicoat), Carl and Barbara Hirschman, Megan, Joel and Katelyn Weiler, Amanda Schorg and Madison Harpenau.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Chester Bergner.

Famy S. Ericson
LAUREL, Neb. - Famy Sarah Ericson, 94, of Laurel died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Neb.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Laurel Cemetery with the Rev. Craig Holstedt officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Cemetery.

Mrs. Ericson was born March 29, 1903, near Carroll in Wayne County, the daughter of Louis and Margaretha (Witt) Bruggeman.

She married Clarence O. Ericson on Aug. 16, 1922, in Laurel.

She was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Laurel, the Miriam Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was treasurer for the Laurel Ladies Cemetery Association for 51 years and treasurer for the Laurel City Auditorium Kitchen for 25 years. She was recognized by the community with The Laurel Citizen of the Year Award in 1979.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Jon and Mary of Des Moines; a daughter and her husband, Joan and Patrick Mallatt of Lincoln, Neb.; a sister, Luella Shively of Laurel; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Mallatt, Ann Killenbeck, Christine Ericson and Michael Erickson, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, eight brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be Rod Kvols, Jerry Nelsen, Dean Bruggeman, Reed Tolles, Clarence Lyons Jr., Richard Brandow, Loren Keifer, Brian Cuba and Scott Thomspon. Honorary pallbearers will be Allan Shively, Gerald Mallatt, Ernie Fork, Raymond Schmidt, Rod Harrington and Paul Huddleston.

Memorials may be sent to the United Presbyterian Church in Laurel or Providence Medical Center in Wayne.

The Schumacher Funeral Home in Laurel is in charge of arrangements.

Homer W. De Boer
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Homer De Boer, 75, of Orange City died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Robert Vander Schaaf and the Rev. Robert Hector officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. today at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Mr. De Boer was born Dec. 25, 1922, in Alton, Iowa, the son of Douwe D. and Johanna "Anna" (Rowenhorst) De Boer. He was raised on a farm southwest of Alton.

He graduated from Northwestern Classical Academy and Junior College in Orange City. He also attended Grand Island (Neb.) Business School.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He married Kathryn Mae Wielenga on May 15, 1945, in Orange City. The couple made their home in Orange City, where he was first employed by the International Harvester dealer. He later was an independent accountant. He then became a representative of Investors Diversified Services, which later became American Express Financial Advisors.

He was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory, taught Sunday School classes, sang in the choir, and belonged to the Booster Club. He was a 50-year member of Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post 329 in Orange City and had been active in 4-H as a leader. In addition to his hobby of raising sheep, he was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching sports events.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Larry and Carol of Hawarden, Iowa, and Keith and Sheila and Alan and Carey, all of Orange City; two daughters and their husbands, Rita and Dan De Jong of Sioux City and Karyn and Kenneth Cook of Midland, Texas; eight grandchildren, Aaron De Boer, Lewis De Jong, Patrick De Boer, Lance De Boer, Drew De Boer, Brent De Boer, Kolton Cook and Maria De Jong; two sisters, Charlotte Meyer of Le Mars, Iowa, and Charlene Kloster of Longmont, Colo.; and a brother, Robert De Boer of Alton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dudley De Boer.

Memorials may be directed to diabetes research.

William E. DeJong
SHELDON, Iowa - William E. "Bill" DeJong, 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa, formerly of Sheldon, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Methodist Manor following a sudden illness.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. Gary VandeKamp officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. There will be no visitation. The Fratzke Funeral Home of Storm Lake is handling arrangements.

Mr. DeJong was born June 23, 1912, in Alton, Iowa, the son of William and Tillie (Menning) DeJong. He attended school in Alton.

He married Ruth Oolbekkink on Dec. 28, 1938, in Newkirk, Iowa. She died in 1995.

He was in the feed and produce business in Sheldon from 1938 to 1959. He then moved to Pipestone, Minn., where he was in the hatchery business until 1968. From 1968 to 1995, the couple lived in Fergus Falls, Minn., where he worked as an insurance salesman until retiring in 1977. He moved to Sheldon in 1995, where he lived until moving to Methodist Manor in 1997.

He served in the United States Army in Europe during World War II.

He was an active member and served on the state board of the Association for Retarded Citizens in Minnesota. He also was a member of the Federated Church and was active in the Senior Center in Fergus Falls.

Survivors include a son, David of Milroy, Minn.; two daughters and their husbands, Audrey and David Peterson of Storm Lake and Susan and Cal Engel of Wichita, Kan.; four grandchildren, Kris and Jackie Peterson and J.J. and Adam Engel; and three brothers and their wives, Lloyd and Betty and Ken and Eleanor, all of Orange City, Iowa, and Ray and Frances of Alton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a son, Cliff; three brothers, Howard, Pete and Ralph; and a sister, Anna Niewendorp.

Memorials may be directed to Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon or Camp Friendship in Annandale, Minn.

Carol Dimmick
LE MARS, Iowa - Carol Dimmick, 60, of Le Mars, Iowa, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at her home.
Services will at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Ries officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, with a Scriptural Wake at 7 p.m.

Martha A. Fahr
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Martha Anna Fahr, 88, of Cherokee, formerly of Alta, Iowa, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Cherokee Villa in Cherokee.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Alta, with the Rev. Henry Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in rural Alta. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barker Funeral Home in Alta.

Mrs. Fahr was born Dec. 2, 1909, in Alta, the daughter of Henry and Dorothea (Honsbruch) Hinkeldey. She attended St. John parochial school through the eighth grade.

She married Glen Fahr on Feb. 14, 1934, in South Sioux City. She married Floyd Fahr on Aug. 30, 1946, in Spencer, Iowa.

She lived south of Alta from 1946 to 1958 and then moved to north of Galva, where she lived from 1958 to 1976. She moved to Alta in 1976 and moved into Cherokee Villa in 1995.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the St. John Quilting Group.

Survivors include two sons: the Rev. Duane and his wife, Julie, of Schyler, Neb., and Loren and his wife, Kathy, of Galva, Iowa; three daughters: Loretta Kendell and her husband, Jack, of Spencer, Iowa, Darlene Caboth and her husband, Milton, of Alta, and Ardiss Galvin and her husband, Robert, of Alta; ae sister, Emma Dreier of Storm Lake; two sisters-in-law: Opal Hinkeldey and Alice Fahr, both of Alta; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd; four brothers: William, Chris, John and an infant brother; a sister, Marie Glienke, and a son-in-law, Wayne Langner.

Tena Jasperse
SHELDON, Iowa - Tena Jasperse, 94, of Sheldon died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, with the Rev. Neil Jasperse and the Rev. John Vermeer officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, Iowa.

Mrs. Jasperse was born June 13, 1903, in Sioux Center, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Frances Wartena Bajema. She attended christian schools in Rock Valley and later Calvin College.

She taught school in Rock Valley, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Western Springs, Ill.

She married Cornelius Jasperse on June 29, 1964, in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple lived in Sheboygan, Wis., until July of 1983, when they moved to Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls, Wis. He died Oct. 20, 1984, in Sheboygan. In April 1985 she moved to Oak Park Care Center.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and the Golden Hour Circle of the church.

Survivors include three stepsons and their wives, George and Nancy Jasperse of Grand Rapids, Mich., Glenn and Patty Jasperse of Sheboygan, Wis., and Lloyd and Nella Jasperse of Granite Bay, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Barbara Tuinstra of Dallas, Texas; 17 stepgrandchildren; and 30 stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, the Rev. William Bajema, John Bajema, the Rev. Dr. Jacob Bajema, Barney Bajema and Dick Bajema, and three sisters, Alice De Bruyn, Agnes Bajema and Bertha Vaandrager.

Kenneth Kahl
DOW CITY, Iowa - Kenneth Kahl, 50, of Dow City, Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Burial will be in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. today at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Henry Kamies
HOSPERS, Iowa - Henry Kamies, 89, of Hospers died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Orange City Hospital in Orange City, Iowa.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Reformed Church in Hospers, with the Rev. Milton Sikkema officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. in Eastlawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Sheldon Funeral Service of Sheldon.

Mr. Kamies was born Aug. 1, 1908, near Sheldon, the son of Aiko and Johanna (Solsma) Kamies. He was raised near Sheldon and attended country school east of Sheldon.

He married Mary Van Gelderen on Feb. 7, 1934, in Sibley, Iowa. The couple farmed near Ocheyedan, Iowa, before moving to Sibley, where he worked with Entertainment Vending Machines. They lived in Sheldon, where he worked in construction and tiling. In 1948, they moved to Hospers, where he worked for 29 years for the Sioux City Journal Star route and was the custodian for the Hospers Cemetery for 10 years.

He was a member of First Reformed Church for 50 years.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, John and Gert of Orange City; two daughters, Sandra and her husband, Dave Cooper, of Ontario, Calif., and Shirley Sexton of Highlands, Calif.; five grandchildren, Lisa Lambert, Jennifer Jurgensen, Scott Kissinger, Paula Kissinger and Sandi Kissinger; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Bert of Sheldon; and a sister, Bernice Sievert of Hartley, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Kamies Sr. and Jake Kamies; and four sisters, Tillie Hector, Jennie Wenzel, Katie Mohlenkamp and Henrietta Mohlenkamp.

Agnes Kinsley
SPRINGFIELD, S.D. - Agnes Kinsley, 69, of Springfield died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, in McAllen, Texas.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at United Church of Christ in Springfield, with the Rev. Howard Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Springfield cemetery. The Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Springfield in handling local arrangements.

Mrs. Kinsley was born Dec. 28, 1928, in Union County near Alcester, S.D., the daughter of Emil and Anna Klemme. She received a baccalaureate degree from Southern State Teacher's College in Springfield and taught for several years in the local rural schools.

She married Berdell Kinsley of Mission, S.D., on May 28, 1949. The couple taught in the Dallas and Gregory schools and spent eight years with the Bureau of Indian Affairs teaching in Lower Brule, HeDog and Alaska. She received a master's degree from the University of South Dakota and served as clinical psychologist for the Todd County Schools.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters and their husbands, Lesley and Ron Gebhart of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Deborah and Jim Lauer of Ainsworth, Neb.; a son and his wife, Kermit and Virginia of Orange, Texas; eight grandchildren, Libby and Nicolas Gebhart, Megan, Aaron, Alissa and Jason Lauer and Melissa and Justin Kinsley; a brother and his wife, Leverne and LaVonne Klemme of West Akron, S.D.; and two sisters, Lulda Abrahamson of Akron, Iowa, and Marjorie and her husband, Norman Flados, of Harlingen, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
