Floyd M. Beauvais
Floyd M. Beauvais, 76, of Sioux City, formerly of Clark, S.D., died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at the Westwood Nursing Home in Sioux City of brain cancer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Clark, with the Rev. Ken Bains officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Furness Funeral Home in Clark.
Mr. Beauvais was born May 25, 1921, in Turton, Spink County, S.D., the son of Noel M. and Irene A. (Doten) Beauvais. He attended school in Raymond, S.D., graduating in 1939. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Black Hill. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific.
He married Phyllis H. DesLauriers in June 30, 1945, in El Centro, Calif. She died July 2, 1995, in Clark.
He was employed as a civilian with the Department of Defense at the Black Hills Army Depot in Igloo, S.D. and Beale Air Force Base in Marysville, Calif. He retired in 1979, following 31 years of Federal Civil Service, and returned to the Clark area.
He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin and Thomas A. and his wife Rolene, whom he lived with, all of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Katherine B. and Daniel Curry of Ames, Iowa; four grandchildren, Bradley B. and Brian Beauvais and Jessica and Austin Curry; a stepgrandson, Rod Lantz; a great-granddaughter; two brothers and their wives, Herbert L. and Angie of Watertown, S.D. and Alan and Louise of Upland, Calif.; his twin sister, Flora Thill of Dallas, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Archie and Lawrence; and a sister, Marianne Kinne.
Debra M. Broyhill
Debra M. Broyhill, 38, of Sioux City died suddenly Monday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Kirk Hanson
Kirk Hanson, 62, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Marvin Boes officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Hanson was born Sept. 9, 1935, in Maskell, Neb., the son of Charles L. and Bernadette (Michaels) Hanson. He was raised in Nebraska and graduated from Allen (Neb.) High School.
He married Evelyn Richer on Oct. 22, 1955, in Sioux City. He married Patricia on Nov. 29, 1986, in South Dakota. He was employed with Job Service of Iowa for several years.
He was president of the Sioux City Youth Baseball Association and served on the Sioux City Youth Football Board, the Little League Baseball Board, the Board of Director of CETA, as chairman of the Woodbury County Community Action Agency and Woodbury 70001 and served on the Sioux City Housing Advisory Committee.
He coached and umpired little league games for years and coached youth league football. He helped originate high school baseball in Sioux City and build West High School's baseball and softball fields. He was involved in many fund-raisers for West High School. He was instrumental in getting the Sioux City Ghosts Softball Team into the Sioux City Hall of Fame and the Smithsonian Institute. In 1974, he coordinated development of the Kirk Hanson Recreational Complex in Riverside.
He received numerous awards including, the Service Above Self Award in 1979 from the Sioux City Rotary Club, the Man of the Year Award from the Labor Council and Chamber of Commerce, the Distinguished Service Award from the City of Sioux City, the Employee of the Month Award from the State of Iowa and was honored by then Governor Robert Ray in 1982. He also received numerous awards from the West High School Booster Club.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the West High School Booster Club.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Randy and Pat of Moville, Iowa and Kelly and Gayle of Sioux City; three daughters, Sandra and her husband Michael Dunn and Elizabeth Sorensen, all of Sioux City, and Peggy and her husband David Kirkpatrick of Clatskanie, Ore.; five stepsons, Rick Suggitt and his wife Michele of Sac City, Iowa, Randy Suggitt and his wife Deb and Russ Suggitt, all of Sioux City, Rob Suggitt and his wife Gloria of Jackson, Mich. and Rod Suggitt and his wife Sandy of Omaha, Neb.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Ronda and Randy Coleman of Horton, Mich.; two brothers and their wives, Ben and Sharon Hanson of Sioux City and Kerry and Jean Hanson of Yankton, S.D.; 15 grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bernadette Ehlers; three brothers, Charles Lloyd, Richard John and Stephen Bruce Hanson; an infant grandchild; and a stepdaughter, Renee.
Pallbearers will be Vic Casey, Tim Engle, Russ Wauhob, Dan Herman, David Jessen and Dan Fields.
A memorial will be established in his name.

Evelyn L. Hult, 78, of Weslaco, Texas, formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday in Weslaco following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Bluffview Cemetery at Vermillion, S.D. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Muriel L. Riedesel
Muriel L. Riedesel, 100, of Sioux City died Monday at the Indian Hills Nursing Home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Whitfield United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Eugene A. Sweum
Eugene A. Sweum, 86, of South Sioux City died Tuesday at his residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Evangelical Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.
Edward Van Donselaar
Edward H. Van Donselaar, 53, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Sunday at his residence.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at a later date. There will be no visitation.

Helen I. Akin
HAWARDEN, Iowa - Helen I. Akin, 84, of Hawarden died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at the Hawarden Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden, with Monsignor Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Akin was born Feb. 16, 1913, in Hawarden, the daughter of Charles H. and Anna (Cowen) Sedgwick. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1931. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. and graduated from Drake University in Des Moines with a teachers certificate. She taught school in Cleghorn, Iowa, St. Mary's School in Hawarden and in Westfield, Iowa. She also was employed as a nurses aide at the Hawarden hospital for many years.
She married Dr. Joseph Akin on Dec. 31, 1938, in Montrose, S.D. The couple lived in Kansas City, Mo., Des Moines, Akron, Iowa and Hawarden. He died Oct. 29, 1992.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, an honorary member of St. Mary's Guild, the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary and the Kappa Alpha Theata Sorority.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry and his wife Marti of Cincinnati, Ohio and Dan of Oakdale, Minn.; two daughters, Dr. Kathleen "Ginger" Akin of Lincoln, Neb. and Susan Robertson and her husband Dennis of Hawarden; two sisters-in-law, Mary Sedgwick of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and Marjorie Akin of Evensville, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Christie, Eric, Erika, Kate and Carley Akin, Teresa Phillips, Wendy Solberg and Stacy Lightcap; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles H. "Bo" Sedgwick; and two sisters, Lois Taggart and Martha Taggart.
Fred W. Brech
YANKTON, S.D. - Fred W. Brech, 77, of Yankton died Monday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Kostel Funeral Chapel in Yankton. Burial will be in Yankton Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Ernest-Bowyer Post 791. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Carol Dimmick
LE MARS, Iowa - Carol Dimmick, 60, of Le Mars died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at her residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Richard Ries officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mrs. Dimmick was born Nov. 2, 1937, near Alton, Iowa, the daughter of Aloysius and Gertrude (Steichen) Biever. She attended St. Mary's Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Alton High School in 1955. She received her nursing training from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Yankton, S.D. in 1958.
She married Roger Dimmick on Aug. 16, 1958, in Alton. The couple lived in WaKeeney, Kan., where she was employed with WaKeeney Hospital. They moved to Le Mars in 1961, where she was employed with Floyd Valley Hospital as a nursing supervisor for many years.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jeff and his wife Laura and Jay, all of Le Mars; a daughter and her husband, Amy and Aaron Schneider of Clarksville, Tenn.; a sister and her husband, Arlis and Roman Kaiser of Lakewood, Colo.; a brother and his wife, Orval and Joan Biever of Alton; and three grandchildren, Zach, Megan and Jeremy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Lane David Dimmick.
Pallbearers will be Brian Berkenpas, Joshua Biever, Harold Stream, Jim Brownmiller, Charlie Clark and Kyle Klein.
Martha A. Fahr
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Martha Anna Fahr, 88, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Alta, Iowa, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Cherokee Villa in Cherokee, Iowa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Alta, Iowa, with the Rev. Henry Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in rural Alta. Barker Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Fahr was born Dec. 2, 1909, in Alta, the daughter of Henry and Dorothea (Honsbruch) Hinkeldey. She attended St. John Parochial School through the eighth grade.
She married Glen Fahr on Feb. 14, 1934, in South Sioux City. She married Floyd Fahr on Aug. 30, 1946, in Spencer, Iowa.
She lived near Alta from 1946 to 1958 and then moved near Galva, where she lived from 1958 to 1976. She moved to Alta in 1976 and then to Cherokee Villa in 1995.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the St. John Quilting Group.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, the Rev. Duane and Julie, of Schuyler, Neb., and Loren Kathy, of Galva, Iowa; three daughters, Loretta Kendall and her husband, Jack, of Spencer, Iowa, Darlene Caboth and her husband, Milton and Ardiss Galvin and her husband, Robert, all of Alta; a sister, Emma Dreier of Storm Lake; two sisters-in-law: Opal Hinkeldey and Alice Fahr, both of Alta; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd; four brothers: William, Chris, John and an infant brother; a sister, Marie Glienke, and a son-in-law, Wayne Langner.
Ella J. Glade
OCHEYEDAN, Iowa - Ella J. Glade, 93, of Akron, Iowa, formerly of Ocheyedan, died Tuesday at the Akron Care Center following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan. Burial will be in Ocheyedan Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
Regis F. Harden
WINNEBAGO, Neb. - Regis F. Harden, 60, of Winnebago died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in Pender, Neb. following a lenghty illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Winnebago Tribal Mortuary, with Virgil Free in charge. Burial will be in Winnebago Indian Cemetery. Wake services will be from today until service time Thursday at the Winnebago Tribal Mortuary.
Mr. Harden was born Dec. 25, 1937, in Winnebago, the son of Thomas and Lorraine (Harrison) Harden. He graduated from Winnebago Public School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy from January 1955 to April 1958. In recent years, he resided at the Home of Heritage Nursing Home in Emerson, Neb.
Survivors include four brothers, Thomas Francis of Indianapolis, Ind., Ross W. of Reno, Nev. and Miles G. and Elwood of Salt Lake City, Utah; and two sisters, Juanita Harden-Palmer of Winnebago and Valerie Lee Smith of Oakland, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister.
Doris P. Ideker
LE MARS, Iowa - Doris P. Ideker, 77, of Le Mars died Tuesday at her residence following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church E.L.C.A. in Le Mars. Private graveside servies will be at a later date. Visitation will be prior to the service Saturday at the church. Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of the arrangements.
Henry Kamies
HOSPERS, Iowa - Henry Kamies, 89, of Hospers died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital in Orange City, Iowa.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today, with a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m., at First Reformed Church in Hospers, with the Rev. Milton Sikkma officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. today in Eastlawn Cemetery at Sheldon, Iowa. Sheldon Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Kamies was born Aug. 1, 1908, near Sheldon, the son of Aiko and Johanna (Solsma) Kamies. He was raised and attended country school near Sheldon.
He married Mary Van Gelderen on Feb. 7, 1934, in Sibley, Iowa. The couple farmed near Ocheyedan, Iowa, before moving to Sibley, where he was employed with entertainment vending machines. They moved to Sheldon, where he worked in construction and tiling. In 1948, they moved to Hospers, where he was employed with the Sioux City Journal Star route for 29 years and was custodian of the Hospers Cemetery for 10 years.
He was a member of First Reformed Church in Hospers and a former member of Melvin Reformed Church in Melvin, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, John and Gert of Orange City; two daughters, Sandra and her husband Dave Cooper of Ontario, Calif. and Shirley Sexton of Highlands, Calif.; five grandchildren, Lisa Lambert, Jennifer Jurgensen, Scott, Paula and Sandi Kissinger; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Bert of Sheldon; and a sister, Bernice Sievert of Hartley, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Sr. and Jake; and four sisters, Tillie Hector, Jennie Wenzel, Katie Mohlenkamp and Henrietta Mohlenkamp.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Beltman, Henry Boender, Al Heemstra, Peter Moss, Don Raak and Henry Rensink.
Irene Koerselman
LE MARS, Iowa - Irene Koerselman, 86, of Le Mars died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at United Presbyterian Church in Boyden, Iowa, with the Rev. John Goertz officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Boyden. Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Koerselman was born May 16, 1911, in Manilla, Iowa, the daughter of Charles "Pete" and Ollie (Wycoff) Stoker.
She married Dick Koerselman on July 18, 1931. The couple lived in Boyden for many years. He died Oct. 8, 1988. She resided in The Abbey from 1984 to 1986 and then moved into the Plymouth Manor Care Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Glenda Haverhals of Le Mars; a brother and his wife, Bob and Lois Stoker of Grand Rapids, Minn.; two grandchildren, Mike and Kelly Haverhals; and two great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dick Jr.

DENISON, Iowa - Donald Kuhl, 68, of Denison died Monday at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.

HARTINGTON, Neb. - Henry Joseph Langferman, 94, of Hartington died Monday at Sister James Nursing Home in Yankton, S.D.

UTE, Iowa - Goldie M. Shipley, 93, of Ute died Tuesday at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.

Russel D. Thompson
LAWTON, Iowa - Russel D. Thompson, 51, of Lawton died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital of a sudden illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at The Nazarene Church in Climbing Hill, Iowa, with the Rev. Peter Kline officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. LeRoy Struble officiating, at the Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.
Mr. Thompson was born April 13, 1946, in Rodney, Iowa. He attended school in Sioux City and graduated from East High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army.
He married Karen Welty on Sept. 8, 1967, in Nashua, Iowa. He had lived in Colorado Springs, Colo. and the Sioux City area before moving to Lawton 26 years ago. He was employed with the state highway department, Armour Packing Plant and Midwest Power from 1979 to 1994. He retired in 1994.
He was a member of The Nazarene Church and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 499.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Traci and her husband James Inman of Seattle, Wash. and Amy Thompson of Olathe, Kan.; and two brothers and their wives, Duane and Gloria and Larry and Linn, all of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Virginia Jones.
Dora Vander Kolk
HULL, Iowa - Dora Vander Kolk, 91, of Hull died Monday at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Susan J. White
MACY, Neb. - Susan Jane White, 81, of Macy died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Alfred W. Gilpin Community Center in Macy, with Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Wolfe Jr. in charge. Burial will be in Omaha Indian Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. today at the Native American Church Building in Macy. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.
Miss White was born Aug. 16, 1916, in Walthill, Neb., the daughter of Theodore and Mary (Walker) White Sr. She had been a resident of a nursing home in Lyons, Neb. and in Macy.
She was a member of Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three brothers, Rufus and Joseph, both of Macy and Richard of Walthill; a sister, Florence A. Grant of Walthill; and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Theodore Jr.; a son, Stanley White; and a daughter, Lavina Morris.
Harlan Wynja
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Harlan Wynja, 38, of Sioux Center died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at his residence following a short illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Mark De Witt and the Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Mr. Wynja was born Oct. 6, 1959, in Sioux Center, the son of Joe and Mary Jean (De Zeeuw) Wynja. He was born with cerebral palsy and attended Hope Haven in Rock Valley, Iowa for seven years.
He corresponded with several pen pals and enjoyed his church and sports of all kinds. He collected T-shirts from all over the world and was interested in anything that pertained to the state of Texas.
Survivors include his mother; three brothers, Brent and his wife, Maggie of Ames, Iowa, Leslie of Sioux Center, and Carl and his wife, Lori of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister and her husband, Nancy and Dave Olivier of Rock Valley; and four nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa - Harry Yarnes, 75, of Spirit Lake died Monday in Spirit Lake.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Turner Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m. conducted by the Twilight Lodge 327, at the funeral home.
