Debra M. Broyhill
Debra M. Broyhill, 38, of Sioux City died suddenly Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, in Sioux City.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Berka, pastor at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery.
Ms. Broyhill was born April 28, 1959, in Sioux City, the daughter of Lawrence L. Broyhill and Carole M. (Leighty) Holtzen. She attended Sioux City schools and graduated from North High School in 1977.
She was employed with Metz Bakery in South Sioux City for 13 years. She enjoyed working with her hands.
Survivors include her father and his wife, Lawrence and Pamela Broyhill of Hemet, Calif.; her mother of Sioux City; two daughters, Heather and Sarah Crilly, both of Sioux City; five brothers, Duane Broyhill and his wife Mary of Cincinnati, Ohio, Raymond Broyhill and his wife Melissa of San Antonio, Texas, Kevin Broyhill and his wife Lenora of Denver, Colo., Bud Holtzen and his wife Christine and Rodney Holtzen, all of Sioux City; two sisters, Ruth and Darla Holtzen, both of Sioux City; and her paternal grandmother, Fern Broyhill of South Sioux City.
Roy V. Magnus
Roy V. Magnus, 92, formerly of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, in Hemet, Calif.
There where no services. The body was donated to medical science.
Mr. Magnus was born March 16, 1905, in Minnesota, the son of Walter and Victoria Magnus.
He married Pauline Krause in 1929, in St. Paul, Minn. She died in August 1971. The couple came to Sioux City in 1935, where he was employed with Cudahy Packing Plant until it closed in 1954. He then operated a grocery store for a brief time before they acquired an apartment complex. He also was employed with Armour and Company until its closing.
He was a former member of Billy Sunday Memorial Tabernacle, where he taught Sunday School and served on the church board. He bowled with Club 55 and the Senior Citizen League until moving to Hemet in 1986.
Survivors include a sister, Beata King of Hemet and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Edward Kobes
Edward Kobes, 83, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wayne Kobes, of Sioux Center, Iowa, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Kobes was born May 24, 1914, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of John and Cornelia (Kipper) Kobes. He lived most of his life in Sioux City.
He married Edith M. Sigler on Nov. 30, 1936, in Elk Point, S.D. He was employed as a machinist with Windcharger and Zenith Dynatec before retiring.
He was a member of Westlawn Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, David of Belmond, Iowa, Edward of Alton, Iowa and Robert of Sioux City; a brother, Albert of Sioux City; a sister, Calzina Saliex of Muscatine; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Hilton and Gertrude Gunderson; and four brothers, Harry, Jake, Johnny and Henry Kobes.
Dorothy C. Ryan
Dorothy C. Ryan, 90, of Sioux City died Monday at her residence.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Graceland Park Cemetery Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Sally Chasin
Sally (Levin) Chasin, 70, of Lakewood, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, in Lakewood.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Temple Israel in Long Beach, Calif.
Mrs. Chasin was born May 5, 1927, in Sioux City, the daughter of Isaac and Bertha Levin. She graduated from Poly High School in Long Beach and the University of California in Berkley, Calif.
She married Hillel Chasin in August 1947. She was employed as a fashion buyer for Chasins Menswear in Long Beach, the South Coast Plaza in Orange County, Calif., the Harry Coffee Mens and Womens Clothing Stores in Visalia, Fresno and Bakersfield, Calif. and Chasins Ltd., exclusive womenswear, in Fresno.
She was a member of National Council of Jewish Women, St. Mary's Hospital Guild, ORT, Red Mogen David, Temple Israel, Ladies Auxiliary Los Cerritos Masonic Lodge, Long Beach Jewish Community Center, Tehran Temple Fresno, El Bekal Shrine Temple Children's Hospital and Hadassah Hospital.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and their wives, Howard and Linda and Neil and Laura; a daughter, Barbra; four grandchildren, Brandon, Courtney, Sarah and Allison; and a brother and his wife, Irwin Levin and Rachel.
Memorials may be directed to City of Hope Hospital and El Bekal Shrine Temple Children's Hospital both in California.
Florence G. Johnson
Florence G. Johnson, 97, formerly of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at her residence in Lexington, Ky.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Francis officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 3, 1900, in Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Emma (Veidt) Dennler. She is the widow of William T. Johnson.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Morningside Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and Hathor Temple Daughters of the Nile.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan J. Bostrom of Lexington, Ky.; five grandchildren, Rebecca Langfitt, Louise Kruger, N. Robert and Erik W. Bostrom and Steven W. Johnson; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Keith W. Johnson.
P. Eileen Wingert
P. Eileen Wingert, 80, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Peters, pastor at Lawton (Iowa) Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Wingert was born Feb. 28, 1917, in Sioux City, the daughter of Martin and Olga (Bakke) Larson. She attended Sioux City schools.
She married John Johnson on Oct. 12,1935, in Elk Point, S.D. He died Nov. 23, 1946. She then married Glann Wingert on Jan. 15, 1949. He died March 5, 1985. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Willing Workers Club of Concord Township. She enjoyed bingo and working puzzles.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Dan and Jean of Sioux City; four daughters and their husbands, Helen and John Cross of Moville, Iowa, Irene and Jim Willer of Lawton, Iowa, Doris and Gerald Uhl and Karen and Mark Wurscher, all of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Clarence Larson and Ruth of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Jeannita Larson; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Merle Larson and a grandson.
Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.

Irma F. Freshwaters, 90, of Sioux City died Thursday at a Sioux City nursing home.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Retirement Home Chapel. There will be no visitation. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Janet E. Schiller, 86, of Sioux City died Thursday at her residence following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Perrysville, Penn. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.
Lois M. Scott
Lois M. Scott, 77, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dr. John Meyer and the Rev. Kathy Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Scott was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Sioux City, the daughter of Edward and Frieda (Hinz) Gibbs. She graduated from Central High School in 1939.
She married Raymond Galbraith in 1940. She married A.C. Scott in 1948. He died in 1964. She was employed as a night switchboard operator and worked the admitting desk at Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City, until retiring in the early 1970s.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the National Cribbage Association, where she was secretary for seven years, and Sioux City Cribbage for many years.
Survivors include a son, Fredrick of Denver, Colo.; two sisters and their husbands, Evelyn and Robert Whelan of Minneapolis, Minn. and Lorraine and Leonard Horner of Sioux City; and a brother and his wife, Ed and Fran Gibbs of ElCajon, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Richard, Philip and Mick Horner.
Anna Mary Porter
Anna Mary Porter, 87, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at the Matney Westside Manor following a lenghty illness.
Services will be at 12:30 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Susan Miller, chaplain at Hospice of Siouxland, officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Porter was born Oct. 28, 1910, in Hornick, Iowa, the daughter of George H. and Mary O. (Wagg) Fuller.
She married Walter Porter on May 23, 1929, in Sioux City. He died June 1982, in Sioux City. She was employed with National Optical Company for several years.
She was a Stanley representative for many years.
Survivors include a son, Walter J. "Jim" of California; five daughters, Charlotte Britton and her husband Clifford of Sheldon, Iowa, Betty Wieck and her husband Ray and Beatrice Lilly, all of Sioux City, Mary Tinin and her husband Tom of Scott, Ark. and Evelyn Morgan and her husband Ron of Westminster, Colo.; a brother and his wife, Edward and Elsie Fuller of Bloomfield, N.M.; two sisters, Irene Sullivan of Sioux City and Maxine Asay of Oregon; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, two grandsons and a great-grandson.
Pallbearers will be Martin Young, Dennis Morgan, Rick and Roger Britton, Duane Hanner and Elton Baker.
Patricia A. McDonald
Patricia Ann McDonald, 69, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at her residence.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul-Louis Arts and the Rev. Timothy A. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.
Mrs. McDonald was born Aug. 18, 1928, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Lorraine (Sullivan) Pregler. She graduated from Dubuque Walhert High School in 1946.
She married Charles H. McDonald on Sept. 4, 1948, in Dubuque. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1979, from Stafford, Va.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She served as a funeral usher for many years and was a volunteer at Marian Health Center.
Survivors include her husband; four sons and their wives, Rodney J. and Emily of Newport News, Va., David and Kitty and John C. and Theresa, all of Stafford, Va. and Kevin E. and Debbie of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Jamie, David, Katie, Ashley, Shawn and Seth; and a brother, Donald Pregler of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Ginter; a brother, Dale Pregler; and a sister-in-law, Barb Pregler.
Carolyn M. Elliott
Carolyn M. Elliott, 64, of Dakota City died Wednesday at her residence.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.
Regene L. Osborne
Regene "Jean" L. Osborne, 49, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Hinton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.
Mrs. Osborne was born Nov. 24, 1948, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Walter A. and Eunice G. (Gotto) Kounkel. She graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1967, from St. Luke's School of Nursing in 1970, from Briar Cliff College in 1982 with a bachlor of science degree in nursing and received her masters degree from the University of Nebraska in 1987.
She married Philip Osborne on May 29, 1971, near Hinton. The couple had lived in Cedar Rapids and Sheldon, Iowa, before returning to Sioux City. She was formerly employed as an instructor and presently as president of St. Luke's College of Nursing.
She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church and secretary of the Iowa Board of Nursing Examiners.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Tonya Jean Osborne of Graettinger, Iowa and Keri Jean Osborne of Sioux City; her father and mother-in-law, Harriet and Merrill Buttrick of Worthington, Minn.; a brother and his wife, Terry and Jane Kounkel of Spirit Lake, Iowa; a stepbrother and his wife, Allen and Linda Kurtzhals of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Shyril and her husband James Schroeder of Hinton and Judy Hegstrom of Lawton, Iowa; and three stepsisters, Arlene and her husband Ron Miller of Olathe, Kan., Rose Ann and her husband Fred Haring and Doris Beitelspacher, all of Le Mars.
She was preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law, Kenneth Osborne.

HAWARDEN, Iowa - Imogene Grace Parks, 77, of Greene, Iowa died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at the Morningside Manor in Alcester, S.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Greene, with the Rev. Galen Smith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., at the Reid's Funeral Home of Greene. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Parks was born March 22, 1920, in rural Dougherty, Bennezette Township, Bulter County, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie K. and Grace P. (Kahuda) Barnhart. She attended rural school in Bennezette Township and graduated from Greene High School in 1939. She was employed with First Star Bank in Greene for many years.
She married Merlyn L. Parks on Oct. 17, 1958, in Greene.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School and was the church treasurer. She was also a member of United Presbyterian Women and a former member of the May Day Chapter 115 Order of the Eastern Star in Greene.
Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Brian and Cindy of Hawarden; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Christopher; three sisters, Phyllis and her husband Virgil Runge of Nora Springs, Iowa, Kathleen Walston of Manchester, Iowa and Elaine and her husband Rev. Donald Neely of South Bend, Ind.; and a brother-in-law, Charles W. Barney of Perry, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, Eugene Barnhart in infancy; a sister, Thelma Barney; and a brother-in-law, Dean Walston.

Doris P. Ideker
LE MARS, Iowa - Doris P. Ideker, 77, of Le Mars died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at her residence following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church E.L.C.A., with the Rev. Bert Burwell, AiM, officiating. Private graveside services will be at a later date. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service Saturday at the church. Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Ideker was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Bancroft, Neb., the daughter of Roy and Ethel (Burke) Pilgram. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1938. She graduated from Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, Neb. and received her bachlors of arts degree in elementary education from Westmar College in Le Mars, in 1968.
She married Martin H. Ideker on June 25, 1949, in Norfolk, Neb. He died Nov. 9, 1989. She taught school in Moorhead, Iowa, Wisner, Neb., Sioux City and retired after 23 years in the Hinton Community School system at Hinton, Iowa, in 1984.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church E.L.C.A. and the National Education Association.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Mary and Scot McKenzie of Mound, Minn. and Anita M. Ideker and Bob MacKenzie of Tumwater, Wash.; three sons, William of Pacific Junction, Iowa, Thomas of Austin, Texas and John and his wife Margaret of Beijing, China; and three granddaughters, Katherine Rose McKenzie and Dawn and Rebecca MacKenzie.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be directed to the American Pancreatic Association or the American Diabetes Research Institute Foundation.

HARTINGTON, Neb. - Josephine Foerster, 102, of Wayne, Neb., formerly of Hartington, died Thursday at the Wayne Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Dorathea Bauer
KINGSLEY, Iowa - Dorathea Bauer, 94, of Kingsley died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Correctionville, Iowa, with the Rev. Marvin Mueller and intern Pastor Scott Meier officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Pierson, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.
Mrs. Bauer was born Dec. 19, 1903, in Schleswig, Germany. She was raised in Germany and moved to the United States and the Hinton, Iowa area.
She married Henry Bauer on Feb. 4, 1931, in Sioux City. The couple farmed in the Pierson and Kingsley area until retiring. He died Sept. 29, 1972. She continued to live on the farm until recently when she moved to North Park in Sioux City.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and the Salem Lutheran Ladies Aid.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Milton and Judy of Pierson; a daughter, Lois Bauer of Kingsley; and two granddaughters, Natalie and Alison Bauer.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.
Patricia B. Huisenga
Patricia B. Huisenga, 56, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of the Siouxland area, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at the Ehrling Berquist Hospital on Offutt Air Force Base near Bellevue, Neb.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at West Center Chapel in Omaha. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday, with the family present from 3 to 5 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Huisenga was born Nov. 27, 1941, in Ludlow, Mass., the daughter of Geroge Harold and Minnie B. (Barufaldi) Whitehead.
She married Larry E. Huisenga. She was employed as a child care provider.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Laura and her husband Dale Moore of Phoenix, Ariz. and Leisha Huisenga of Bellevue, Neb.; a son, Lorne of Bellevue; five grandchildren; three brothers, George Whitehead of West Springfield, Mass., Eugene Whitehead of Garner, N.C. and Edward Whitehead of Wichita, Kan.; and her foster mother, Flossie Osborn of Abilene, Texas.

BATTLE CREEK, Iowa - Ida Watson, 77, of Battle Creek died Thursday at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

John Vogel
ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - John Vogel, 73, of Rock Rapids died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at the McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, with the Rev. Eugene Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.
Mr. Vogel was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Pipestone, Minn., the son of Carl and Edna (Rolfe) Vogel. He moved with the family to a farm near Rock Rapids. He attended country school and graduated from Rock Rapids High School. He then began farming.
He married Barbara Ann Roach on Oct. 5, 1949. The couple farmed near Rock Rapids. She died July 14, 1961.
He married Barb Sorenson on Oct. 15, 1974. The couple farmed until he retired in 1984, and they moved into Rock Rapids.
He served as president of the board for the Lyon County Co-op and the Farmers Elevator. He enjoyed fishing, auto racing and airplanes.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Gary and his wife Julie, Bruce and his wife Jan, Jay and his wife Lisa, all of Rock Rapids and David of Houston, Texas; two stepdaughters, Kathi and her husband Rod Jorenby of Madison, Wis. and Kandiss Sorenson of Houston; a daughter-in-law, Linda Vogel of Sioux City; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and a sister and her husband, Jean and Jack Frambach of Sawyer, Mich.
He was preceded in death by a son, Terry and his parents.
