Jerry Lee Borschuk
Jerry Lee Borschuk, 64, of Sioux City, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. A. T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Borschuk was born Feb. 16, 1934, in Sioux City, the son of Michael and Elizabeth (Humza) Borschuk. He graduated from Central High School in 1952, and served in the U.S. Army in Germany.

For many years, he worked as a printer at The Sioux City Journal. For the past four years, he was employed by KCAU-TV, Channel 9. He played softball and umpired and refereed softball and basketball games for many years.

Survivors include one son, Douglas of Omaha; two brothers and their wives, Michael and Lo Borschuk and Phillip and Ida Borschuk, all of Sioux City; two sisters and their husbands, Alyce and Bill Wecker and Betty and Darwin Tapper, all of Sioux City; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Carmen Groth of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Ken Biggerstaff, Damon Clayborne, Mike Borschuk, Bill Wecker, Chad Coyle and Paul Swanson.

Glendora E. Alvarez
Glendora E. Alvarez, 79, of Sioux City died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Eldon V. Hoelscher
Eldon V. "Al" Hoelscher, 82, of Sioux City died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Larkin Northside Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert J. Schimmer, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Hoelscher was born July 10, 1916, in Walnut, Iowa, the son of Henry and Grace (Conod) Hoelscher. He was raised in the Windon and Worthington, Minn. area. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater.

He married Elizabeth "Pauline" Laehle on Oct. 7, 1949, in New Hampton, Iowa. He had farmed in the Sioux City area since 1951, retiring in the early 1980s. The couple moved into Sioux City in 1984.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the American Legion Post of Merrill, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Edward and his wife, Carleen of Hinton, Iowa, and Dale of Denver; three daughters, Mary Hoelscher of Sioux City, Nadine and her husband, Ron Ruden of Hinton and June Carpenter of Hernando, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Bradley and Steven Hoelscher, Heather, Jonathan and Matthew Ruden and Cole and Erin Carpenter; a brother, Max of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and three sisters, Theresa Burke and Odena Hull, both of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Evelyn and her husband, Larry Brodie of Fayetteville, Ark.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Winston and Hank; and a sister, Philomena.

Pallbearers will be Tony and Merritt Hoelker, Don Small, Don Taylor, Duane Wachter and Shannon Lesko.

Michael K. Nelson
Michael Keith Nelson, 48, of Berryton, Kan., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kan.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel in Topeka.

Mr. Nelson was born March 21, 1950, in Sioux City, the son of Donald L. and Shirley F. (Nichols) Nelson. He lived in Sioux City until his freshman year in school, when he moved to Independence, Kan. He graduated from high school and attended junior college in Independence. He also lived in Emporia, Kan., where he graduated from ESU with a degree in education. He lived in Scott City, Kan., for some time, where he was an educator.

He married Vicki on June 2, 1998, in Lake Shawnee, Kan.

He was a member of ADAPT and sang in the choir at the Christian church in Sioux City and the Presbyterian church in Independence. He was a member of high school and college music groups and enjoyed sports.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Aaron Nelson of Wichita, Kan.; his mother and stepfather, Shirley F. Nelson-Chase and Richard of Iola, Kan.; a sister, Ellen Aleantar of Topeka; a brother, Kyle of Garden City, Kan.; and a stepson, Charles Meredith of Topeka.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials may be directed to ADAPT Disabilities Association or the American Diabetes Association, both in Topeka.

Mickey M. VanDeventer, 71, of Sioux City died Saturday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Vera Miller, 80, of Sioux City died Sunday; Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Dr. Lester Larson
SPENCER, Iowa - Dr. Lester Larson, 89, of Spencer died Friday at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Warner Chapel in Spencer. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Peterson, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Clara Feenstra
SIBLEY, Iowa - Clara Feenstra, 89, of Sibley died Saturday at the Sibley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christian Reformed Church in Sibley. Burial will be in Holman Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.

George Bingham
LAUREL, Neb. - George Bingham, 83, of Laurel died Sunday at the Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Lutheran Church in Laurel. Burial will be in Bancroft Cemetery, Bancroft, Neb. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Schumacher Funeral Home in Laurel. There will be at prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Edward Struble
CASTANA, Iowa - Edward Struble, 96, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Castana, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at the Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Castana Community Church, with Rev. Linda Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Kennebec Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer services at 7:30 p.m., at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mr. Struble was born May 6, 1902, in Castana, the son of Ira Edward and Effa Elizabeth (Pembrook) Struble. He attended country school.

He married Ethel Livengood on June 1, 1930, in Elmo, Mo. The couple farmed near Castana, retiring in April 1970. They moved to Onawa in October 1989 and entered the Elmwood Care Centre in 1995.

He was a member of Reorganized Church of Latter-Day Saints and attended Castana Community Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Donald and his wife, Anita of Kalamath Falls, Ore., and Wayne of Onawa; two daughters and their husbands, Alyce and Keith Davis of Denver and Carolyn and Tom Calkins of Parker, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ivan of Castana and Conn and his wife, Gwendolyn of Denver; two sisters, Thelma Miller of Castana and Jenny Noftsger of Lamoni, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Erma Adams; a son, Stanley; two brothers, Lloyd and Warren; and four sisters, Blanche Poulosky, Clela DeVies, Floris Davis and Mildred Amundson.

Ruth E. Odegard
LE MARS, Iowa - Ruth Emma Odegard, 90, of Le Mars died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City, Iowa. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a prayer service at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Odegard was born Dec. 9, 1907, in Taylor Falls, Minn., the daughter of Albert and Anna (Johnson) Moberg. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Taylor Falls High School and later attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. and Primary Training School in St. Paul, Minn. She taught kindergarten and primary grades for several years. She also taught piano and violin.

She married Edfield Odegard on July 14, 1939, in Taylor Falls. The couple lived in several communities in the midwest.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Sarah Circle. She taught Sunday School and directed the children's Christmas productions and the children's choir.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, David and Nynke of The Netherlands; a daughter and her husband, Lori and Richard Fick of Orange City; a sister, Margaret Rauk of St. Paul; six grandchildren, Jason, Angela, Joel and Brian Fick and Ingrid and Erik Odegard; and three sisters-in-law, Hazel White, Leonore and Linnea Moberg.

She was preceded in death by six brothers.

Pallbearers will be Dave Odegard, Jason, Brian and Richard Fick.

Hattie E. Van Briesen
SIBLEY, Iowa - Hattie E. Van Briesen, 80, of Ivanhoe, Minn., formerly of Sibley, died Sunday at the Divine Providence Health Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Reformed Church in Sibley. Burial will be in Ocheyedan Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.

Daniel Gaul
DOW CITY, Iowa - Daniel Gaul, 39, of Dow City died Friday of injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Persia, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church in Earling, Iowa. Burial will be in Dow City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday, with a Scriptural service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Huebner Funeral Home of Denison, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.

Marvel M. Jahn
MOVILLE, Iowa - Marvel M. Jahn, 74, of Moville died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Moville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doresa Collogan, pastor of Gladbrook United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the McCulloch Funeral Home in Moville.

Mrs. Jahn was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Climbing Hill, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Maud (Jarnagin) Steinhauer. She was raised in the Climbing Hill area and graduated from Climbing Hill High School.

She married Harry W. "Buck" Jahn on Sept. 20, 1941, in Climbing Hill. The couple moved to the Moville area, where she was a homemaker. They moved into Moville in 1976.

She was a member of Moville United Methodist Church, the church choir, the United Methodist Women, the Moville Garden Club, the Moville Womens Club and the South Sioux City Eagles. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and flowers.

Survivors include her huband; a son and his wife, Harry E. "Bucky" and Jana of Moville; a daughter, Marilyn Dillivan of Urbandale, Iowa; four grandchildren, Douglas Dillivan, Vicky Richardson, Ginger and Gina Jahn; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Esther Blankenship of Moville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters and a son-in-law.

Robert T. Hayes
Robert T. Hayes, 21, of Moville, Iowa, died Sunday; McCulloch Funeral Home of Moville.
