Marion Lucile Upton, 83, of North Hollywood, Calif, formerly of Sioux City, died July 22, 1998, at Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank, Calif.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Dwaine H. Johnson
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. - Dwaine H. Johnson, 59, of South Sioux City died Friday at his home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. There will be no burial. Visitation will be 1 to 8:30 p.m. Monday with the family present after 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Floyd L. Shroll
Floyd L. Shroll, 88, of Sioux City, died Friday; Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Edna L. Prior
IDA GROVE, Iowa - Edna Lorraine (Boughton) Prior, 91, of Ida Grove died Tuesday July 21, 1998, at the Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. Burial will be in Ida Grove Cemetery. Visitation was Friday. Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home of Ida Grove is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Prior was born Sept. 12, 1906, in Ida Grove, the daughter of Charles and Johanna (Monsees) Staudenmeier. She graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1923, and then attended Iowa State Teachers College. She married Harrison H. Boughton Aug. 10, 1926, in Chicago. He died Aug 20, 1955. She married William Prior in December 1964. He died in December 1984.

She was a librarian at the Ida Grove Public Library for many years and then served as County Coordinator for the American Cancer Society for a number of years.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Harrison C. and Patricia Boughton of Wichita, Kan., and Stephen L. and Nova Boughton of Minneapolis; two step-daughters and their husbands, Marsha and Jim Sloter of Algona; and Sally and Mick Baker of Mason City, Iowa; a stepson and his wife, Don and Sue Prior of Carroll, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a niece.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sonia H. George; and two sisters, Gertrude Meyer and Lydia Staver.

OTO, Iowa - Edward J. Schwarz, 81, of Oto died Friday at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill, Iowa. Burial will be in West Fork Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa.

Marion C. Bobenmoyer
MASKELL, Neb. - Marion Charles Bobenmoyer, 88, of South Sioux City, formerly of Maskell, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at a South Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church in Maskell with the Rev. Ted Youngerman officiating. Burial will be in the Maskell Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, Neb.

Mr. Bobenmoyer was born April 13, 1910, in Lakefield, Minn., the son of William and Grace (Guenther) Bobenmoyer. He married Sallie Moody Aug. 23, 1932, in Santee, Neb. She died March 16, 1966. He married Lovena Bishop Oct. 9, 1966, in Sioux City. He farmed and owned the Maskell grocery store for many years. In 1995, after retiring, the couple moved to South Sioux City. He spent winters in Arizona and Texas and enjoyed camping and fishing. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Neil Bobenmoyer and his wife Marie of Obert, Neb., and Paul Bobenmoyer of Ponca; a daughter and her husband, June E. and Norman Anderson of Newcastle, Neb.; three step-daughters and their husbands, Delila and and Jim Cooper, of Dixon, Neb., Jeannine and Dick Stene, of Beresford, S.D., and Pat and Vernon Peterson, of Sac City, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Harold and Ruth Bobenmoyer, of Plattsmouth, Neb.; two sisters, Alice Thomas of Grant, Neb., and Jessie Dooley of Hartington, Neb.; and two sisters-in-law, Margaret Bobenmoyer of Aitken, Minn., and Eva Bobenmoyer of Klamath Falls, Ore.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Herfel; a step-daughter, Sharon Meyer; two sisters, Ruth and Frances; and two brothers, Frederick and Alvin.

Delores Wensel
BURBANK, S.D. - Delores Wensel, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Burbank, died Wednesday in Cedar Rapids.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Calvary Cemetery in Vermillion. Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home of Vermillion is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Porter
ODEBOLT, Iowa - Charles Luther "Chuck" Porter, 62, of Odebolt died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Evangelical Free Church in Arthur, Iowa with the Rev. Robert Lundberg officiating. Burial will be in Hayes Township Cemetery, rural Arthur. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 6 p.m. at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mr. Porter was born March 2, 1936, in Webster City, Iowa, the son of Paul and Alice Louise (Schreck) Porter. He went to school in Iowa Falls, Iowa and then attended Ellsworth Jr. College. He married Sally Frank Nov. 17, 1957, in Alden, Iowa. He was employed as a parts man for International Harvester for 26 years and for Case-IH for two years.

He was a member of Evangelical Free Church where he had served as Sunday school treasurer, trustee, and camp representative.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Michael Porter and Michelle, of Ida Grove, Iowa, and James Porter and Stephanie of Arthur; four daughters, Peggy and her husband, Bill Bahr, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Pam Porter of Odebolt, Mary and her husband, Ted Simpson, of Cedar Park, Texas, and Valerie Acenith and her fiance, Michael Bechtold, of Plymouth, Minn.; and two grandsons, Michael and Matthew Bahr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Pamela Sue Bahr; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law.

Randy D. Howard
HOMER, Neb. - Randy Dale Howard, 42, of Homer died Thursday July 23, 1998, of injuries received in a work-related accident.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Homer with the Rev. Bill Anderson and Gary Harris officiating. Burial will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery in rural Homer. Visitation will be 1 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Mr. Howard was born Aug 3, 1955, in Sioux City, the son of Marvin D. and Joan P. (Krumwiede) Howard. He attended Homer School. He married Jo Ann Miller July 2, 1976. He owned and operated Howard Construction Co. in Homer and did contracting with Sioux City Brick and Tile Co. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Homer.

Survivors include a son, Randy Joe Howard of Homer; a daughter, Amy Miller of West Branch, Iowa; and his parents of Homer.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Rodney Howard.

Pallbearers will be Don Newton, Mike Carver, Cal Greenleaf, Jason Hulit, Alvin Satterwhite, and Joe Henry.

Margret P. Anderson
HAWARDEN, Iowa - Margret P. Anderson, 81, of Hawarden died unexpectedly Friday at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden with the Rev. Dean Shelly pastor of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Anderson was born March 6, 1917, in Trenton, Mo., the daughter of Joe and Stella (Thompson) Waddell. She lived in Oakville, Iowa until 1936. She married Leland Anderson March 28, 1936, and moved to Hawarden that same year. She was employed at Otis Radio in Hawarden for many years and was later employed at the Mapes Nursing Home. He died April 25, 1974.

She was a member of the Hawarden United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Kaye Giffin of Akron, Iowa, and Donna Anderson of Beresford, S.D.; two sisters, Mary Hodgson and Kathryn Carr, both of Hawarden; a granddaughter whom she raised, Tina Lorensen of Westfield, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Don Waddell and Jack Waddell.

Helen J. Stowers, 92, of Sioux City died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home with the Rev. John Gertds, pastor of Morningside Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stowers was born Jan 19, 1906, in Spring Prairie Township, Minn., the daughter of Leslie and Martha (Yonker) Gravalin. She was raised in Spring Prairie Township where she attended rural schools. She married John Phillip Stowers in 1926, in Morehead, Minn. The couple lived in Morehead until 1945 when they moved to Sioux City. They lived in Le Mars from 1961 until 1964. He died in 1964, in Sioux City. She moved back to Sioux City in 1964. She had worked for Fairmont Creamory during World War II and was later a homemaker. She was of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include a brother, Hoddy Gravalin of Morehead; two sisters, Dodie Fonder and Jane Lekas, both of Morehead; six grandchildren, Ron Stowers, Randy Stowers, Lori Tichenor, Gerry Stowers, Tom Stowers, and John Stowers; 11 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Harvey and Donald Stowers; a sister; and six brothers.

Pallbearers will be Steve Jansen, Richard Larson, Mark Wetz, Sam Johnson, Von Bornholtz, and Al Charlson.

Marion Lucile (Weldon) Upton, 83, of North Hollywood, Calif, formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif after a long illness.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Mrs. Upton was born Oct. 30, 1914, in Sioux City. She attended Whittier Elementary, East Junior, and East High schools, graduating in 1932. While growing up, she had been Worthy Advisor of the Morningside Chapter of Rainbow Girls. She worked for her father at Sioux City Dental Laboratory and was employed in various other jobs including the Sioux City OPA office. She entered civil service at the Sioux City Air Base and later transferred to a base in Liberal, Kan. Following World War II, she attended classes at Austenial Laboratories in Chicago, becoming a manufacturing technician there. She moved to Los Angeles in 1946, and was employed by Kanose Dental Laboratories as a technician. She married Kenneth M. Upton March 29, 1947.

She was a longtime member of the Parent Teacher Association and was very active in her community. She was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and was past president of Deacons and Woman's Association. She was also a 50-year member of Eastern Star Chapter 502 in Sioux City. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert Upton of Bellvue, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. Dale Delgado of Newhall, Calif., and Lori Heilbrun of Valencia, Calif.; four grandchildren, Brianne and Brandon Delgado, and Rebecca and Paige Heilbrun; a sister, Madelon E. Sewell of Las Vegas; a sister-in-law, Eileen Weldon in Playa del Rey, Calif.; and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Bob.

Floyd L. Shroll

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church with the Rev. Terry D. Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mr. Shroll was born Aug. 31, 1909, in Tyndall, S.D., the son of Louis and Susie (Dempster) Shroll. He graduated from Tyndall High School and attended Southern State College in Springfield, S.D. He married Ella C. Lindgren Feb. 1, 1936, in Sioux City. She died June 5, 1998. He was employed as an auto mechanic for 17 years with Studebaker Dealers, and 14 years with Lincoln-Mercury and other various automobile dealerships. He retired Sept 1, 1974 from Tri-State American. He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, and a lifetime member of the Sioux City Moose Lodge. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served on the Trustee Board, several committees, and several terms as head usher. He enjoyed playing the guitar, banjo, and organ, and had performed with various bands in the area. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Surivors include a son and his wife, Dean A. and Sandra Shroll of Sergeant Bluff; two daughters and their husbands, Susan L. and Thomas Farrell of Sergeant Bluff, and Connie M. and Robert Stoner of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lyle "Buster" Shroll; and a sister, Verna Christopherson.

Pallbearers will be LeRoy Deuhr, Robert Mohan, Robert VanderZee, Jim Dye, Claude Head, and Derald Newton.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. - Dwaine H. Johnson, 59, of South Sioux City died Friday, July 24, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Jirousek officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 8:30 p.m. Monday with the family present after 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson was born April 19, 1939, in South Sioux City, the son of Jacob F. and Edna A. (Kruse) Johnson. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1957. He married Eleanore Knudsen. He was employed with various meat packing companies.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Beverly and Randy Schultzen of Lawton, Iowa; two sons, Donald and David Johnson, both of South Sioux City; his mother of South Sioux City; two brothers, Harold Johnson, and Robert and his wife, Linda Johnson, all of South Sioux City; two sisters, Dorothy and her husband, Stan Binkley, of Emerson, Neb., and Mavis Wallace of Ainsworth, Neb.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a special friend, Audria Maxon.

Laurel G. Cliff
KINGSLEY, Iowa - Laurel Gale "Skinny" Cliff, 77, of rural Kigsley died Friday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Kingsley. Burial will be at Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Monday with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.

OTO, Iowa - Edward J. Schwarz, 81, of Oto died Friday, July 24, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill, Iowa with the Rev. Michael Harmon officiating. Burial will be in West Fork Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa.

Mr. Schwarz was born Dec. 28, 1916, in Chambers, Neb., the son of Fredrick Carl and Edna (Barnes) Schwarz. He attended school in the Lawton, Iowa area and lived in the Lawton and Climbing Hill area in his youth. He married E. Beth Cummins on Oct. 9, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Moville, Iowa and Kingsley, Iowa areas until 1967, when they moved to Oto. He retired from farming in 1978. She died Sept. 21, 1994, in Sioux City.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Sioux City Gun Club from 1955 to 1970. He was a John Deere enthusiast, and enjoyed playing the accordian, hunting, fishing, and woodworking.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Robert E. and Pat Schwarz, of Kingsley; a daughter, Sharene Schwarz of Oto; three grandchildren; two sisters, Frieda Craig of Sloan, Iowa, and Marge McIntyre of Eureka, Calif.; a brother and his wife, Fred and Donna Schwarz, of Spencer, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille and Evelyn; and an infant sister and brother.

LE MARS, Iowa - Marion E. Wiese, 88, of Le Mars died Friday at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars after a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars with an Altar Society rosary at 4 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

PONCA, Neb. - Vernon Gary White, 59, of Ponca died Friday at his home following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in Allen, Neb. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. today at Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, and after 6:30 p.m. with the family present, and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the church.

AKRON, Iowa - Duane A. Busch, 59, of rural Akron died Friday at a Sioux City hospital.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hawarden, Iowa. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Porter-Dow Funeral Home of Hawarden is in charge of the arrangements.
