Leo C. Pigman
Leo Clinton Pigman, 73, of Wentworth, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday at the Veterans Regional Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D., at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Joseph J. Thomas
Joseph J. Thomas, 76, of Sioux City died Tuesday at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Charlotte R. Burrows
Charlotte Rita Burrows, 72, of Sioux City died Monday, July 27, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Lawrence McCarty officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7 p.m., all at Meyer Brother Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Burrows was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Genoa, Neb., the daughter of Francis and Norma (Grape) Flaherty. She was raised in the Genoa area and graduated from Genoa High School in 1942.
She married Gail W. Burrows on July 8, 1945, in Genoa. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1949. She was employed with Blackstone Toys and Hobbies, Knapp and Spencer Co. and then Security National Bank.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Altar Society and Marian Health Center Auxiliary. She did volunteer work for the Queen of Peace.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, William and his wife, Monica, and Daniel and his wife, Jennifer, all of Sioux City, Nicholas and his wife, Pam, of Madison, Wis., and Martin of Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Monica Neely of St. Paul, Minn.; a brother, Francis "Bud" Flaherty of Lincoln, Neb.; three sisters, Gertrude Jackson of Modesto, Calif., Lois Stephens of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, and Delores Thrun of Cleveland, Ohio; and 13 grandchildren, Elise, Jason, Emily, Alexandra, John, Tony, Sara, Molly and Danielle Burrows, Jesse and Alana Arnot and Megan and Matthew Neely.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three infant daughters, Patricia Marie, Mary Margaret and Amy Marie; two sisters, Alice Buck and Norma Saunders; and a brother, Ken Flaherty.
Pallbearers will be William, Daniel, Nicholas, Martin and Jason Burrows and Matthew Neely.
A memorial will be established in her name.
E.R. Cummings
Major (Ret.) E.R. Cummings, 75, of Sioux City, formerly of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Burial will be in Hills of Rest, with military rites conducted by the South Dakota Army National Guard. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Cummings was born April 11, 1922, in Sioux Falls. He was raised in Sioux Falls, where he received his education. He later moved with his family to Nebraska, where he worked on the family farm.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was a prisoner of war in Italy. His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart and Silver Star medals.
He married Alice VanRegenmorter on March 4, 1946, in Sioux Falls. He later married Shirley (Nelson) Cook on June 3, 1971, in Pipestone, Minn.
He had also lived in Kansas City and Denver before moving to Sioux City. He was involved in various sales positions, obtaining numerous sales awards. He also worked as an entertainer in night clubs as a steel guitar player in the Hawaiian and country western music areas.
Survivors include his wife of Sioux City; eight sons, Larry and C.S.M. Les Cumming, both of Sioux Falls, Carl Cook of Corpus Christi, Texas, James Cook, Todd, Eugene, Derrick and Tyrone Cummings, all of Sioux City; seven daughters, Linda Aschmeller of Sioux Falls, Lorelie Niedert of Canistota, S.D., Lana Semelesburger of Coloma, Mich., Andi Hall of Wilmington, N.C., Vicki Cook and Tina and Terri Cummings, all of Sioux City; 28 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, John of Casper, Wyo.; and a sister, Deatta Ginnopoulous of Des Plaines, Ill.
Patricia E. Steely
Patricia Ellen Steely, 42, of South Sioux City died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile/pedestrian accident.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Glenn Schacht officiating. Burial will be in Elk Point Cemetery, Elk Point, S.D. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m, at Berkemier Funeral Home.
Ms. Steely was born July 16, 1952, in Sioux City, the daughter of William and Harriett (Lockwood) Livingston. She was raised in Sioux City and moved to South Sioux City as a child. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1975.
She married Paul Roupe in 1975, in Sioux City. They made their home in Sioux City and then South Sioux City. They later divorced. She later married Lyle Steely in 1992, in Elk Point. They later divorced.
She was employed at WACO for several years and at Region 4 at South Sioux City for the handicapped. She was currently employed by Goodwill Industries as a group home supervisor.
She enjoyed arts, crafts, camping and computers.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Harriett and Robert Wilde of South Sioux City; a daughter, Heidi Ann Roupe of South Sioux City; three sons, Charles Roupe and his fiance, Donna Herrera, of Sioux City, John Roupe and William Roupe and his fiance, Candis Brell, all of South Sioux City; three sisters, Sharon Bell of Yankton, S.D., Marian Livingston and Leann Street, both of South Sioux City; a brother, Lyle Dean Hughes of Winnebago, Neb.; a grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, three brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be Clarence Whitmore, Bob Bell, Craig Clift, Zach Cook, Dean Hughes and Chad Whitmore.
David V. Borgelt
WISNER, Neb. - David Victor Borgelt, 57, of Wisner died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital of injuries suffered in a feedyard accident near Wisner.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wisner, with the Rev. James Carretto and the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Wisner City Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Kuzelka Funeral Home in Wisner. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Mr. Borgelt was born April 12, 1941, in Norfolk, Neb., the son of Victor and Valeska (Grosse) Borgelt. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended Cuming County Rural School District 17 and graduated from Wisner High School in 1960.
He married Cheryl Horst on Aug. 12, 1962, in Wisner. He began feeding cattle at the age of 10 years old and was presently feeding cattle with his son and brother at the Borgelt Feed Lots near Wisner.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he was vice president of the church council. He was also a member of Cuming County Feeders Association, currently serving on the board of directors, the National Cattlemans Beef Association, the National Rifle Association and collected Winchester firearms. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; his father of Wisner; three daughters, Susan and her husband, Bruce Tonkin, of Mesa, Ariz., Linda and her husband, Dennis Frerichs, of Loveland, Colo., and Cheri Borgelt of Everest, Kan.; two sons, Brian of Tacoma, Wash., and Alan and his wife, Kristie, of Wisner; five grandchildren, Anna and Ellyn Tonkin, Alec and Bret Frerichs and Michael Borgelt; a sister, Phyllis Rourke of Des Moines; and a brother, John of Wisner.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Pallbearers will be Kurt Sandall, Lonnie Roth, Kirk Riley, Rollin Bremerman, Pat Hughes and Gary Bellar.

ODEBOLT, Iowa - Lilly Kropf, 90, of rural Odebolt died Monday at her residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church in Kiron, Iowa. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa.
Cornelia Frazier
SANTEE, Neb. - Cornelia Frazier, 87, of Santee died Monday at her residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Santee Community Gymnasium. Burial will be in L'Eau Qui Court, Niobrara, Neb. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. today until service time Thursday at the gymnasium. Arrangements are under the direction of Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton, Neb.
Bruce Bethke
HARTLEY, Iowa - Bruce Bethke, 52, of Hartley died Monday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Warner Funeral Home in Hartley.
Hattie I.M. Jensen
MAPLETON, Iowa - Hattie Ida Marianna Jensen, 87, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Mapleton, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at the Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Mount Hope Cemetery in Mapleton. Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ida Grove, Iowa, with the Rev. John Schauer officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Jensen was born Dec. 25, 1910, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Detlef and Anna (Thomsen) Schroeder.
She married Walter L. Jensen on April 30, 1930, in Battle Creek, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Battle Creek area until 1937, when they moved to a farm at Irwin, Iowa. They returned to Battle Creek from 1942 to 1947, then moved to a farm in Dietrich, Idaho, for seven years. They came back to Battle Creek and retired to Mapleton in 1966.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Survivors include four sons and their wives, Wilbert and Jackie of Buhl, Idaho, Lester and Valoy of Redding, Calif., Walter and Carol of Pocatello, Idaho, and Ronald and Sharon of Arvada, Colo.; two daughters and their husbands, Ardelle and Robert Gust of Montrose, Colo., and Arlene and Roger Greenough of Slater, Iowa; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hilda Miller of Ida Grove and Helen Macklem of Pueblo, Colo.; three sisters-in-law, Olga Schroeder of Battle Creek, Louise Schroeder of Denison and Mable Jarrell of Wolf Point, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Carl, Paul, Walter and Henry Schroeder; and two sisters, Edna Krayenhagen and Adalia Lutz.
Douglas A. Hutton
CRAIG, Iowa - Douglas A. Hutton, 41, of Craig died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, with the Rev. Douglas Dowling officiating. Burial will be in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mr. Hutton was born May 27, 1957, in Orange City, Iowa, the son of Myron "Red" and Carol (Lindquist) Hutton. He was baptized in the Catholic faith and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran faith. He graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1975.
He married Karen Johnson on June 30, 1979, in Craig. He was a self-employed truck driver with Hutton Trucking in Craig.
He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the Craig City Council for 18 years. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing softball.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Joshua, Kayla and Ashley, all at home; his mother of Craig; a brother and his wife, Michael and Lane of Craig; two sisters, Connie Hutton of Craig and Christi Hutton of Raytown, Mo.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, David.
Pallbearers will be Collin Hoops, Phil Neihus, Barry, Terry and Ronnie Ludwigs and Larry Kluver.
Denise A. Steward
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Denise A. "Niece" Steward, 42, of Cherokee died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Timothy Schott officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Mrs. Steward was born July 6, 1956, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene and Eileen (Dreckman) Pottebaum. She graduated from Granville Spalding High School in 1974, and attended Westmar College for two years.
She married Marc Steward on June 4, 1977, in Granville, Iowa. She was employed as a public service supervisor at Cherokee Mental Health Institute.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Immaculate Conception Ladies Union. She enjoyed golfing, gardening and fastpitch softball.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Jodi of Cherokee and her special friend, Andy Schlichting; six brothers, Dean Pottebaum and his wife, Roxy, of Paullina, Iowa, Doug Pottebaum and his wife, Patti, of Lester, Iowa, Dennis Pottebaum and his wife, Nina, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Dale Pottebaum and his wife, Kristy, of Larchwood, Iowa, Donald Pottebaum and his wife, Kathy, of Brandon, S.D., and Darin Pottebaum and his special friend, Jodi, of Alvord, Iowa; four sisters and their husbands, DeAnn and George Drewes of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Doreen and Brian Kuca of Dante, S.D., Dawn and Glen Baker of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Darla and Michael Hart of Arlington, Mass.; her father of Rock Valley; her mother of Rock Rapids; and 41 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Ethel M. Petty
ONAWA, Iowa - Ethel Mabel Petty, 80, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Onawa, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at St. Joseph Villa Nursing Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Steven C. Hetzel officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Cemetery, Little Sioux, Iowa. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.
Mrs. Petty was born Oct. 18, 1917, near Woodbine, Iowa, the daughter of Edward Warren and Nellie Dorothy (Ehlert) Coyle. She graduated from Woodbine High School in 1935, and attended nursing school at Immanuel Lutheran Hospital in Omaha.
She married Clarence L. Petty on Dec. 10, 1939, in River Sioux, Iowa. She was employed as a telephone operator in Little Sioux for many years and a homemaker. The couple custom farmed in the Little Sioux area before moving to a farm near Onawa in 1952. They moved into Onawa in 1962. He died Feb. 27, 1987, in Onawa. She had lived in Omaha for nine years.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she was involved in Sunday School, Bible School and Ladies Aid.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Madelyn Petty and Scott Hill of New Virginia, Iowa, and Linda and Larry Masters of Omaha; two granddaughters, LeAnn and Laura Masters; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Dorothy and her husband, Jack Boustead, and Katherine and her husband, Loyd Stevens, all of Woodbine, Lois and her husband, John McColly, of Appache Junction, Ariz., Marjorie and her husband, Jack Ellvinger, of Santa Fe, N.M., and Bonnie Van Deusen of Denver, Colo.; a brother and his wife, Richard and Beverly Coyle of Mondamin, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Coyle.

Claude Hemmen
GRANVILLE, Iowa - Claude Hemmen, 79, of Granville died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at the Orange City Hospital and Clinic in Orange City, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville, with Monsignor Kenneth Seifried officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, Iowa.
Mr. Hemmen was born Aug. 28, 1918, in rural Granville, the son of Frank and Mary (Engeldinger) Hemmen. He was raised in the Granville area and attended rural school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the European Theater. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals.
Following his discharge, his was employed with the Gambles Store in Springfield, Minn. In 1950, he moved to the Granville area and farmed with his brother, Leo. He retired and moved into Granville in 1981.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5347 of Granville and American Legion Post 95 of Paullina, Iowa.
Survivors include a brother, Brother Mark (Wilfred) of St. Joseph Abbey, Spencer, Mass.; a sister and her husband, Lucille and Clarence Zuhlsdorf of Bird Island, Minn.; six half brothers, Gerald and his wife, Thelma, of Ocala, Fla., Marcel and his wife, Rosa, of Mesa, Ariz., Joseph and his wife, Judy, of White, S.D., Frank Jr. of Minneapolis, Minn., Michael of Owatonna, Minn., and John and his wife, Sharon, of Green Bay, Wis.; a half sister, JoAnn Hemmen of New Mexico; four sisters-in-law, Armella Hemmen of Granville, Isabelle and Mary Hemmen, both of Worthington, Minn., and Adeline Hemmen of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leo, Edmund and Arnold; a sister, Viola in childhood; and two half brothers, Robert and Derald.
Pallbearers will be Jim Budden, Bob Degen, Linus Goebel, Todd Joanning, Phil Nacke and Paul Von Arb.
Phyllis F. Mayer
VIBORG, S.D. - Phyllis Fern Mayer, 75, of Viborg died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Wakonda, S.D., with the Rev. Bill Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Hansen Funeral Home in Irene, S.D.
Mrs. Mayer was born Oct. 8, 1922, in Bridgewater, S.D., the daughter of Everett and Luella (Cantrell) Rockwell. She attended school in Emery, S.D. She moved with her family to Wakonda in 1938, and graduated from Wakonda High School in 1940.
She married Warren Mayer on Sept. 22, 1944, in Wakonda. The couple farmed in the Wakonda area until 1979. In 1981, they moved to Vermillion, S.D. She was a homemaker and cleaned at Hatch Furniture in Wakonda and Vermillion for many years. She also cleaned several private homes until 1995. They then moved to Viborg.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Robert of Vermillion, Steve of Sioux Falls and Mark of Fairfield, Iowa; a daughter, Kelly Ostrem of Centerville, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Louann Gutierrez of Rochester, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
Frances E. Yockey
ANTHON, Iowa - Frances Emily Yockey, 84, of Anthon died Monday, July 27, 1998, at the Correctionville (Iowa) Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Anthon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery, Rock Branch, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Karen Handke, at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.
Mrs. Yockey was born March 25, 1914, near Oto, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy "Doc" and Pearl Elizabeth (Rogers) Livermore. She attended school in Oto.
She married Clifford Ralph Yockey on June 25, 1931, in Sioux City. The couple lived on a farm near Anthon. He died Dec. 3, 1988.
She was employed as a waitress at various area restaurants and cafes. She also worked for seven years at the Anthon branch of the Moville Cleaners.
She was a member of Anthon United Methodist Church and the WSCS. She volunteered as a recreation assistant at the Colonial Manor in Correctionville.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Debra (Yockey) and her husband, Bill Lulf, of Sioux City and Peggy Ann Yockey of Stockton, Calif.; a stepgranddaughter, Lisa (Norton) Brandt of Central City, Iowa; a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Everett E.; and 11 brothers and sisters, Raymond, Elmer and Margaret Livermore, Audrey and Beulah Iddings, Violet Yockey, Blanch Hall, Loretta "Mick" McDermott, Ann Murphy, Helen Bolles and Myrtle Kenaley.
Pallbearers will be Scott, Kevin, Dennis and Fritz Yockey, Rueben Bolles and Tom McDermott.
A memorial will be established in her name to benefit the Alzheimer's Association.
Glenn D. Gronemeyer
AKRON, Iowa - Glenn D. Gronemeyer, 70, of Hawarden, Iowa, died Tuesday at the Royal C. Johnson Veteran's Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Brunsville, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Marie Vander Stouwe, 84, of Sioux Center died Tuesday at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

ALTON, Iowa - Elsie Bloemendaal, 59, of rural Alton died Tuesday at the Orange City Municipal Hospital in Orange City, Iowa.

Pedro F. Sebastian
Pedro Fransico Sebastian, infant son of Fransico and Margarita Sebastian of Sioux City, was stillborn Tuesday at a Sioux City hospital.

Mary Ann Burge
Mary Ann Burge, 69, of Essex, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Neb.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at Heafey-Heafey-Hoffman-Dworak-Cutler West Center Chapel in Omaha, Neb., with Erin Heckeroth officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home in Omaha. Dorr Funeral Home of Falls City, Neb., is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Burge was born Feb. 3, 1929, in Omaha, the daughter of Earney Lester and Clarice Bergetta (McCracken) Schwasinger. She graduated from Omaha Tech High School.
She married Mel Burge on July 29, 1948, in Papillion, Neb. The couple lived in Omaha. They lived in Lyons, Neb., from 1967 to 1970. They then returned to Omaha, before moving to Essex in September 1997.
She was a member of Northside Christian Church in Omaha and the Order of the Eastern Star Narcissus Chapter 28.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Steven of Dakota City, Keith of Waterloo, Iowa, and Russell of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a daughter, Karen Lucht of Omaha; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Sheryl Burge.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Saunders, Scott Friel, Archie Brown, Michael Schweigart, Robert Kiester and R. Michael Harm.
Alex Kantrovich
Alex Kantrovich, 83, of Sioux City died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Congregation Beth Shalom. Burial will be in Independent Farane. There will be no visitation. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Liliana Drake
Liliana Drake, 72, of Sioux City died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Marvin J. Boes officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Drake was born May 29, 1926, in Viarreggio, Italy, the daughter of Gino and Theresa Marie Pucci.
She married Joseph Bell Drake on May 22, 1945, in Viarreggio. She moved to Sioux City in 1947, where she was a homemaker. He died March 12, 1982, in Sioux City.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and enjoyed knitting and cooking.
Survivors include three sons, Silvio Pucci of Italy, Antonio "Tony" Drake and James Bell "Jimmy" Drake, both of Sioux City; three daughters, Maria Fields-Spann and Liliana "Boojie" Drake-Bryson, both of Minneapolis, Minn., and JoAnn Elliot of Mitchellville, Md.; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Daniel, Kevin and Christopher Fields, Tony Jr. and James Drake and Jason Smith.
Glenn F. Schumacher
Glenn F. Schumacher, 50, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 30, 1998, while on vaction in Burleson, Texas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Robert J. Schimmer pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Schumacher was born Aug. 20, 1947, in Chatsworth, Iowa, the son of George and Lorraine (Homer) Schumacher. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, serving in Vietnam in 1967. His decorations and awards include three Bronze Star Medals.
He married Linda Derochie on Aug. 22, 1970, in Sioux City. He was employed as a superintendent with Kay Dee Feeds for 33 years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Todd and Brad of Sioux City; his mother of Sioux City; five brothers and their wives, Eugene and Dorothy of Burleson, Texas, John and Dorothy of Arlington, Mass., Leo and Sheila of Lincoln, Neb., Lawrence and Miriam of Portland, Ore., and Jerry and Lisa of Fairfax Station, Va.; four sisters, Colleen and her husband Mark Tighe of Homer, Neb., Elaine and her husband Arnie Schulter of Burleson, Texas, Georgia and her husband Ronald Loidl of McAllen, Texas, and Nancy Hodgins of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Paul, Ron and Mark Tighe, Kerry, Kevin and Tim Derochie.
Doris M. Briegel
Doris M. Briegel, 80, of Sergeant Bluff died Monday, June 29, 1998, at her residence following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sergeant Bluff Community United Methodist Church, with Dr. Paul Samuelson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.
Mrs. Briegel was born June 17, 1918, in Armour, S.D., the daughter of Steve and Opal (Moles) Connell. She attended Douglas County rural school and graduated from Geddes High School in Geddes, S.D.
She married John Ivan Briegel on Oct. 10, 1942, in Reno, Nev. The couple moved to Sergeant Bluff in 1946, where they owned and operated Briegel's Garage.
She was a member of Sergeant Bluff United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Charles and Sherri of Davenport, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Mary and Dan O'Neill of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Robert and Mahalia Connell of Huron, S.D.; four sisters, Bernadine McClure of Sioux City, Francis Pokorny of Port St. Luci, Fla., Hazel Schmidt of Ainsworth, Neb., and Marvel Lucas of Omaha, Neb.; and five grandchildren, Thomas and Amy Briegel, Molly, Shannon and Brianne O'Neill.
Memorials may be directed to Sergeant Bluff United Methodist Church or Hospice of Siouxland.

CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa - Lowell E. Anderson, 78, of Marine, Ill., formerly of Correctionville, died Wednesday in Marine.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine. Burial will be in Marine Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
Donald L. Speelmon
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Donald L. Speelmon, 80, of Cherokee died Wednesday at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be no visitation.
Dale M. Gifford
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Dale M. Gifford, 85, of Cherokee died of an apparent stroke Monday, June 29, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Timothy Schott officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. and a rosary at 7:30 p.m. said by the Knights of Columbus, at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Mr. Gifford was born Nov. 8, 1912, in Cherokee County, Iowa, the son of Lyle and Jenny (Timmins) Gifford. He attended country school and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1930. He was employed with Matt Furniture Company.
He married Marian Martin on May 2, 1935, in Cherokee. He went to work for Illinois Central Railroad in 1936, retiring as a conductor in 1979.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he was an usher, the United Transportation Union, the Knights of Columbus, the Degree of Honor, the Sanford Museum Association, the Northwest Chapter of the Iowa Archaeological Association, and the I.A.S. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and worked the hospital cart.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Ronald M. and Karen Gifford of Indianapolis, Ind., and James M. Gifford and Laura Karr of Lebanon, Ind.; a daughter, Jean Anne Doran of Boone, Iowa; six grandchildren, Nancy Gifford, Michele Bazar, Mary Beth Allen, Ronald M. Gifford II, Jennifer Doran and Jeffrey Doran; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Vivian and Ed Fountain of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Kempton of Shelbyville, Ky.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Kay Gifford, two brothers and a sister.

MAPLETON, Iowa - Esther I. Bartels, 87, of Mapleton, Iowa, died Wednesday at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.
