Marie Etchison
Marie Etchison, 82, of South Sioux City died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at a Sioux City hosptial.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gary Klatt and the Rev. A.E. Vehling officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.
Mrs. Etchison was born Sept. 16, 1915, in Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Mary M. (Waderick) Dethlefs.
She married Clarence C. "Jap" Etchison on Sept. 30, 1935, in South Sioux City. The couple lived in Sioux City before moving to South Sioux City in November 1991. He died Aug. 6, 1992, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
She was a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Sioux City, where she was active in various church activities, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a past president of the Disabled American Veterans for the state of Nebraska. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Wyland and Judith of Tucson, Ariz., Robert and Julie of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Mark and Peggy of Eagan, Minn.;four daughters and their husbands, Marliss and Lowell Stading of Ponca, Neb., Edith and Gene Chester and Clarrene and Edward Leffler, all of South Sioux City and Shelly and Jamey DeNoya of Ponca City, Okla; a stepdaughter and her husband, Darlene and Bill Dean of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Walter and Grace Dethlefs of Warsaw, Mo.; three sisters, Clara and her husband Ray Walde of Denison, Iowa, Louisa Ferris of Onawa, Iowa and Ella Fester of Ute, Iowa; a son-in-law, Ronald Wood of Omaha, Neb.; 22 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mardeen Wood; a brother, Henry; a sister, Esther Nemitz; and a granddaughter, Tina Leffler.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Gerald, Jason and Chadwick Etchison, Timothy Wood, Steven Chester and Zachery DeNoya.
Virginia R. Sathre
Virginia R. Sathre, 71, of Sioux City died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at her residence.
Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David W. Fechner officiating. Private graveside services will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Sathre was born Feb. 23, 1927, in Sioux City, the daughter of Tommy and Elizabeth (Gallion) Martin. She graduated from Central High School and attended Briar Cliff College.
She married Selmer E. "Sam" Sathre on Dec. 19, 1952, in Sioux City. He died Dec. 21, 1984, in Sioux City. She was employed at Drs. Barnes and Prahl office for over 20 years.
She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, Michael A. and Steven L.; three daughters and their husbands, Judy and Jeffrey Boettcher, Barbara and Norman Henry and Jill and William Young; a brother and his wife, Gene and Ginger Martin; and 10 grandchildren, Abigail, Emily and Addalyn Boettcher, Travis and Maggie Sathre, Benjamin, Samuel and Jacob Young, Donavan Sathre and Roland Henry.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
Fred M. Nash
Fred M. Nash, 88, of Sioux City died Sunday at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery, rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Verna J. Davis
Verna JoAnne Davis, 87, of Sioux City died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at a Sioux City retirement center.
Private graveside services will be Wednesday in Logan Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. John W. Meyer, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Mrs. Davis was born March 31, 1911, in Sterling, Ill., the daughter of John and Emma (Dauen) Landherr. She graduated from Sterling High School and received her bachelor degree in education from the University of Iowa in 1932.
She married George F. Davis, a former District Court Judge with the State of Iowa, on Aug. 21, 1937, in Sterling. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1937. He died May 21, 1992. She was a social worker in Chicago, Ill. and then in Sioux City.
She was a past president and member of the P.E.O. Chapter LX Sisterhood and was previously involved in and on the board of directors with the Junior League, the Mary J. Treglia Commuity House and the Florence Crittenton Center. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son and his wife, John F. and Miki of Anaheim, Calif.; two daughters, Sue E. Preston of Sidney, Neb. and Martha J. Davis of Santa Fe, N.M.; a sister, Helen K. Sharp of Rockford, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin John Landherr.

Nelle C. Christman, 79, of Sioux City died Monday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Jerome Kleine
DANBURY, Iowa - Jerome Kleine, 71, of Ontario, Calif., formerly of Danbury, died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at the Kaiser Hospital in Hollywood, Calif.
Services will be today in Ontario.
Mr. Kleine was born June 4, 1927, in Danbury, the son of John and Lena Kleine. He resided in Danbury until moving to Ontario in 1960. He was retired from the Ontario-Montclair school district, where he had worked for 30 years.
He was a past Commander of the American Legion Post 112 and was a member of the Elks Club in Ontario.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Lark Wilhelm of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three grandchildren; four sisters, Audrey and her husband Dean Hilborn of Ontario, Ann Keleher of Lodi, Calif., Dorine and her husband Ed Keleher of Sioux City and Martha Uhl of Omaha, Neb.; and a brother and his wife, Bernard and Tillie Kleine of Ontario.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dolores; and a brother, Omer.
Edna W. Fiddelke
PAULLINA, Iowa - Edna W. Fiddelke, 77, of Paullina died Friday, June 5, 1998, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital in Orange City, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, with the Rev. Steven Hayden and the Rev. David Daumer officiating. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery. Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home of Paullina is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Fiddelke was born July 6, 1920, near Calumet, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick and Anna (Walters) Runge. She attended country school and Paullina High School.
She married Hugo Fiddelke on Nov. 1, 1940, in Paullina. The couple made their home in Paullina. He died Feb. 6, 1954, in Paullina.
She was employed as a cook at Zion Lutheran School for many years. She was later employed at Brink's Hardware, Dr. Schiltz Dental office and before retiring, Shirk's Pharmacy.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and Dorcas of the church.
Survivors include three sons, Fred and his wife Kathy of Atlantic, Iowa, John and his special friend Jean Bonacci of DePere, Wis. and Mike and his wife Michele of Orange City; a daughter, Nancy Kilgore and her special friend Robert Brown of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Ella Menke of Hartley, Iowa and Alva Stoever of Paullina.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Fritz; and two sisters, Dora and Meta.
Tena Nelson
DOW CITY, Iowa - Tena Nelson, 105, of Dow City died Saturday at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Dow City. Burial will be in Dow City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.
Carrie Harsma
ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - Carrie Harsma, 92, of Rock Rapids, formerly of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Sunday at the Lyon Manor Care and Rehabilitation Center in Rock Rapids.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Kathryn Grooters
BOYDEN, Iowa - Kathryn Grooters, 91, of Allison, Iowa, formerly of the Sioux Center, Iowa and Boyden area, died Sunday at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Vander Pleog Funeral Chapel in Boyden. Burial will be in Sheridan Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
Herman Roeder
SCHALLER, Iowa - Herman Roeder, 88, of Schaller died Sunday at the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Schaller. Burial will in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. today at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Schaller.
