Kermit D. Freed
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Kermit D. Freed, 68, of Wahpeton, Iowa, formerly of rural Cherokee, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa, of an apparent heart attack.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Oakdale Evangelical Free Church in rural Meriden, Iowa, with the Rev. Warren Coe officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with family present from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Mr. Freed was born June 17, 1932, in Cherokee, the son of Edwin J. and Minnie (Anderson) Freed. He attended Larrabee, Iowa, schools.
He married Jean Logan April 3, 1953, in Canton, S.D. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955, stationed in Germany. He farmed in the Cedar Township area, rural Cherokee. He had lived in the Lakes area since 1992.
He was affiliated with Oakdale Evangelical Free Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Brian and Vickie of Cherokee, and Aaron and Nanci of Cincinnati, Ohio; three daughters, Kim and her husband, Mark Lockwood of Cherokee, Kandice Stephens of Los Angeles, and Krista and her husband, Mark Wilcox of Mishicot, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Ruth Freed of Hutchinson, Minn., Beulah Freed of Cherokee, and Opal Freed of Calumet, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, LaVerne, Marvin, Paul and Harold.
Darwyn Lingle
DOW CITY, Iowa - Darwyn Lingle, 63, of Dow City died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Burial will be in Crawford Heights Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Earl H. Sorensen
HOLSTEIN, Iowa - Earl Henry Sorensen, 80, of Holstein died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Brad Lowery, 39, of Beresford, S.D., died Sunday; Wass Funeral Home of Beresford.
William G. Hoelzle
SLOAN, Iowa - William G. Hoelzle, 76, of Sloan died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at his residence.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Skien Lutheran Church in Albaton, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.
Mr. Hoelzle was born Jan. 31, 1924, in Flint, Mich., the son of Frederick and Inger (Rice) Hoelzle. He attended high school and college in Flint.
He married Margaret A. Parker Sept. 7, 1952, in Albaton. He was employed as an engineer with General Motors for more than 37 years. He moved to Sloan in 1984. His wife died March 29, 1992.
He was a member of the Masons and served as president of Monona County Historical Society. He was associated with Skein Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Inger and Ian Lamb of Polk City, Iowa; a grandson, Parker William Lamb; two brothers and their wives, Bud and Virginia of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Harold and Beatrice of Vermilion, Ohio; a sister and her husband, Eloise and Nick Nickels of Lansing, Mich.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Wallace and Bonnie Parker of Sloan; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hubert of Salix, Iowa, and Elizabeth and her husband, Chester Bay of LaJunta, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Cheney.
Darrell R. Guy
HOMER, Neb. -Darrell R. Guy, 79, of rural Homer died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at an Omaha hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Homer, with the Rev. Dale Jirousek officiating. Burial will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Buckland Post 97 of Homer. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. today at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.
Mr. Guy was born Feb. 4, 1921, in Wynot, Neb., the son of Ralph O. and Eva N. (Nelson) Guy.
He married Marjorie M. Blatchford March 24, 1946, in Maskell, Neb. She died June 6, 1994, in Sioux City. They farmed in Dakota County. He was employed as a welder at Wilson Trailer in Sioux City until his retirement.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Homer.
Survivors include three sons, Eugene and his wife, Cinda of Omaha, Wendell and his wife, Shirley, and Robert, all of Homer; two daughters, Marilyn and her husband, Mike Costello of Sioux Falls, and Elaine Dixon of Kansas City, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Rodney and Roger; a daughter, Linda Guy; and three brothers, Lyle, Lowell and Larry.
Pallbearers will be Cody, Doug, Kenneth and Greg Guy, LeRoy Luesebrink and Loren Beardshear.
Viola Hooley
VERMILLION, S.D. - Viola (Yusten) Hooley, 95, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Vermillion, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Mesa.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Bluff View Cemetery, Vermillion. Arrangements are under the direction of Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home in Vermillion.
Richard A. Ahlers
STORM LAKE, Iowa - Richard Allen "Cubby" Ahlers, 44, of Storm Lake died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. today at Storm Lake Moose Lodge. Burial will be at a later date in Hammond, Ill. Arrangements are under the direction of Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
Larry A. Haack
REMSEN, Iowa - Larry A. Haack, 63, of Remsen died unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, with the Rev. James Gruber of Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa, officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery, Marcus. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Haack was born Nov. 28, 1936, in rural Remsen, the son of Clarence and Irma (Hanno) Haack. He was raised in the Remsen area and attended rural schools until the eighth grade. He graduated in 1955 from Remsen Public High School. He then farmed with his father. He served in the Army National Guard in Cherokee from 1958 to 1964.
He married Connie Frangenberg Dec. 20, 1958, in Marcus. The couple made their home on the Haack family farm near Remsen.
He enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, three children and their spouses, Kirk and Denise Haack of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Lisa (Haack) and James Mayer of Marcus, and Roger and Bonnie Haack of Sioux Falls, S.D.; five grandchildren, Gregory, Lindsay and Adrianna Haack and Bridget and Ben Mayer; a sister and her husband, LaVonne and Clifford Tonsfeldt of Remsen; and a brother and his wife, Milton and Movylene of Remsen.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Kirk, Denise, Roger and Bonnie Haack and Lisa and James Mayer.
Dallas Buol
HAWARDEN, Iowa - Daniel "Dallas" Buol, 23, of Clear Lake, Iowa, formerly of Hawarden, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, in Clear Lake of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Galilean Luth-eran Church in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Peter Narum officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake.
Mr. Buol was born June 6, 1977, in Hawarden, the son of Robert L. and Donna J. (Payne) Buol. He attended school in Hawarden, until he moved with his father to Clear Lake in December 1982. He attended Clear Lake schools, graduating in 1995.
He married Kelly A. Bird May 8, 1999, in Clear Lake. He was employed with various businesses including Menards, Graham Manufacturing and Winnebago Industries.
He was a member of Galilean Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed. He was active in Boy Scouts with a life rank. He attended NIACC in the pre-engineering programs. He played the trombone and enjoyed football, NASCAR and music.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kirstin Ann Buol at home; his parents of Clear Lake; a sister, Maggie J. Buol of Clear Lake; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Connie Bird of Clear Lake; a sister-in-law, Jackie Carrington of Mason City, Iowa; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Buol of Hawarden; maternal grandmother, Lillian Oayne of Oswego, Kan.; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Raymond Albert Buol and Donald Herbert Payne; two uncles and an aunt.
