Cecilia Bohlke
LE MARS, Iowa - Cecilia Bohlke, 92, of Le Mars died Monday, April 26, 1999, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visit ation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m., a Scripture wake service at 7 p.m. and a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 7:30 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mrs. Bohlke was born Aug. 19, 1906, near Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Matthew and Mary (Madden) Lanners. She was raised near Remsen and attended school in Remsen.
She married Edward Bohlke on Nov. 5, 1924, in Remsen. The couple farmed for many years in Plymouth County, Iowa. He died May 29, 1965.
In the early 1990s, she moved into Le Mars and lived at Floyd Valley Apartments.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers Society, Catholic Daughter of America and Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, playing cards and crocheting.
Survivors include three sons, Ray of Le Mars, Floyd "Bud" and his wife, Bonnie, of Sioux City and Clayton and his wife, Delores, of Kingsley, Iowa; four daughters, Darlene Thill of Sioux Falls, S.D., Shirley Traufler, Marilyn and her husband, Don Hoffman, and Lois and her husband, LaMont Hageman, all of Le Mars; a sister, Agnes Lanners of Le Mars; a son-in-law, Arnie Welter of Carroll, Iowa; 28 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemary Welter, four grandchildren, two sons-in-law, two brothers and a sister.
Pallbearers will be Tony and Mike Bohlke, Terry Hoffman, Kim Hageman, Joe Traufler, David Welter, Lisa Weber and Bryan Thill.
Leona Stiles
ODEBOLT, Iowa - Leona Stiles, 92, of Odebolt died Monday at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Odebolt. Burial will be in Odebolt Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt.
Dorothy Bride
KINGSLEY, Iowa - Dorothy Florence Bride, 87, of Kingsley died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kingsley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Earnest and Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.
Mrs. Bride was born July 21, 1911, in Panora, Iowa, the daughter of Walter C. and Florence A. (Knee) Carter.
She was raised in Perry, Iowa, and graduated from Perry High School in 1929. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She married Edward E. Bride on March 7, 1934, in Cherokee, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Remsen, Iowa, and Kingsley areas. She was employed at Kingsley Medical Clinic for Drs. Powell and Hamm. The couple moved into Kingsley in 1979. He died Nov. 22, 1993.
She was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women Kingsley Swingers and Kingsley Golden Circle. She had also been a 4-H leader in Henry Township.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Terry and Lavonne of Sioux City and Tony and Judy of Sloan, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Judy and Don Huennekens of Orange, Calif.; a brother and his friend, John H. Carter and Alice White of Vernal, Utah; 12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; and a niece and nephew, who where her caregivers, Alfred and Elvina Johnson of Remsen.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Carter.
Robert J. Wendel
HAWARDEN, Iowa - Robert John Wendel, 72, of Hawarden died Tuesday, April 26, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, with the Rev. Loren Vogler officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Mr. Wendel was born July 22, 1926, in Union County in South Dakota, near Hawarden, the son of John and Hulda (Reiser) Wendel.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended Williams Country School in Union County.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War.
He married Dorothy Ludwig of Alcester, S.D. She died May 1963. He married Marian Pasewalk on Sept. 3, 1964, in Pipestone, Minn. The couple farmed in Union County until his retirement in 1982. They then moved into Hawarden.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he held various church offices, and Hawarden American Legion. He enjoyed reading and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Arlene Brandes of Bellevue, Neb., and Helen Hartmaan of Cozad, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary Hook
WINNEBAGO, Neb. - Mary (Tebo) Hook, 56, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Winnebago, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Church in Winnebago, with the Rev. Steve Boes officiating. Burial will be in Winnebago Indian Cemetery. Traditional wake services will be from today until Friday at the church, with Mr. Vigil Free in charge. Arrangements are under the direction of Winnebago Wake and Burial.
Mrs. Hook was born Sept. 13, 1942, in Winnebago. She lived in Winnebago until moving to Sioux City in 1959. She lived in Sioux City for a couple of years before moving to Omaha.
She married Robert G. Hook on June 4, 1975, in Omaha.
Survivors include two daughters, Tina Hatch and Sharon Hook, both of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Pallbearers will be Ivan Roberts, Daniel Hatch, Gary Newsam, Nate Newsam, Jess Romero and Frank Tebo.
Martha Cooper
LE MARS, Iowa - Martha Christine Sophie Cooper, 102, of Le Mars died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mrs. Cooper was born March 9, 1897, in rural Sioux County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Wilhelmina (Jacobs) Lehrman. She attended country school in Sherman Township.
She married James Earl Cooper on Feb. 20, 1922, in Le Mars. The couple lived in Le Mars, where she was a homemaker. He died Feb. 21, 1974. She entered Plymouth Manor Care Center in July 1994.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., Ladies Aid, Missionary Group and Le Mars Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Lubben of Le Mars and Joyce and her husband, Donald Whittlesey, of Bella Vista, Ark.; five grandchildren, Diane Langstraat, James Lubben and Mark, Kirk and David Whittlesey; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elnora Van Gelder of Oklahoma City, Okla.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandson; five brothers, Frank, William, Oscar, Harold and Lawrence Lehrman; and four sisters, Amelia Bremer, Rose Gibson, Evelyn Schmidt and Carmen DeRaad.
Pallbearers will be James and David Lubben, James and Jeff Langstraat and Kirk and LeRoy Whittlesey.
Shirley Johansen
AURELIA, Iowa - Frances Shirley Johansen, 78, of Aurelia died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Hilltop Care Center in Cherokee, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in rural Cherokee, with the Rev. Roy Stacey officiating. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m., at Wharton-Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Mrs. Johansen was born Jan. 29, 1921, near Cherokee, the daughter of Glen and Pearl (Stevenson) Leeds. She graduated from Aurelia High School in 1938. She attended Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, Minn.
She married Floyd R. Johansen on Sept. 5, 1939. The couple farmed briefly near Edmunds, N.D. They moved to Cherokee County, where they farmed until retiring to Aurelia in 1975. He died Dec. 22, 1986.
She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she served as organist. She also served Stonecroft Ministries as a Friendship Bible coffee guide and Bible study coordinator. She participated in Cherokee Christian Women's Club.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Georgi and Winston Addis of Seattle, Wash.; two sons and their wives, Dr. James and Pat of Cherokee and Kipling and Anne of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; six grandchildren, Shaunda Leibfried, Lisa and Cameron Addis, Amy Stimes, Leah Kneisler and Zachary Johansen; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Alice Johansen and Nellie Johansen, both of Jamestown, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Wilma A. Taylor
Wilma A. Taylor, 75, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Boniface Ca-tholic Church in Sioux City with the Rev. Paul McKane officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Mrs. Taylor was born July 5, 1925, in Wales, Iowa, the daughter of Forrest and Marie (McVey) Abramson. She was raised in the Elliott, Iowa, area. She graduated from Elliott High School. After graduation she moved to Sioux City. She moved to Ankeny, Iowa, 11 years ago. She was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone for many years, retiring from there in 1976.
She was a member of American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Cheryl Uhl of Ankeny, and Patricia Arsneau of Sioux City; three sisters, Margaret and her husband, Newell Laire, and Barb and her husband, Norm Hansen, all of Red Oak, Iowa, and Alice Rife of Omaha; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Nels F. Swendsen and James M. Taylor; two sisters, Bonnie Tye and Elizabeth Tye; and a son-in-law, Milan Arsneau.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Arsneau, James Uhl, Mike Uhl, Jim Voight, Marshall Laire and Jeramy Bergwall.
