Mary J. "Mae" McDonnell
WHITTEMORE, Iowa - Mary Josephine "Mae" McDonnell, 86, of San Diego, formerly of Whittemore died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Alvarado Hospital in San Diego, of complications after heart surgery.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Whittemore, with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 4 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.
James G. Alderson, Jr.
ALTA, Iowa - James G. Alderson Jr., 94, of Alta died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at his residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home in Alta. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta. There will be no visitation.
Jimmy Gene Wickey
BELLEVUE, Neb. - Jimmy Gene Wickey, 56, of Bellevue died Thursday, Nov. 30. 2000, at his residence.
Services will be 9 a.m. Monday at Glad Tidings Church in Omaha. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be after noon today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Bellevue Memorial Chapel in Bellevue, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Wickey was born Sept. 10, 1944, the son of Edwin and Elsie Wickey. He graduated from East High School in 1963 and entered the U.S. Air Force, serving for 20 years. He married his wife, Karen on Aug. 26, 1978. They had lived in Bellevue since their marriage. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for 14 years at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Omaha.
Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Jerry and Jay, both of Sioux City; four sisters, Judy and her husband, Pat McGuire of Denver, Janet Broer of Glendale, Ariz., Joni and her husband, Cecil Butts of Sioux City, and Julie Wickey of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Bill Broer; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Wickey.
Edna D. Bolender
Edna D. Bolender, 87, of Moville died Saturday at a Kingsley, Iowa, nursing home; arrangements are pending at Christy-Smith McCulloch Funeral Home in Moville.

Leo Hall, 82, of Whiting died Saturday at Burgess Health Center in Onawa; arrangements are pending at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
John R. Hewitt
John R. Hewitt, 97, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at a Sergeant Bluff retirement community.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Anderson officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by American Legion Monahan Post 64. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Hewitt was born Oct. 2, 1903, in Battle Creek, Iowa, the son of John R. and Frendie Hewitt. He was raised and attended school in Battle Creek. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1943, stationed at Camp Joseph Robinson, Ark.
He married Emma Comp in 1928, in South Dakota. He then married Ethel L. "Marge" Robison in 1946, in South Sioux City. She died in 1985.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Merle and Joan Miller; a sister, Lulu Porter of Kentucky; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter; seven sisters, Rose, Leona, Berthas, Marian, Edith, Flossie and Mary Ellen; and a brother, Wallace.

MARCUS, Iowa - Irena Ebert Holtgrewe, 92, of Marcus died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus.

CROFTON, Neb. - LaVerda M. Hesse, 78, of Crofton died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, S.D.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton. Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton.
Zada Rawson Miller
MOVILLE, Iowa - Zada Rawson Miller, 103, of Moville died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Indian Hills Nursing Home in Sioux City.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Kulow Funeral and Cremation Service of Echo, Minn.
Mrs. Miller was born April 23, 1897, in Dickens, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Flora (McKinney) Wallace. She moved with her family to Sioux City as a child. She attended Sioux City schools. She later taught school in rural Woodbury and Plymouth counties.
She married Roy Rawson on June 21, 1917. He died Dec. 19, 1957. She married Clyde Miller on April 27, 1963. He died in December 1981.
She was a member of Moville United Methodist Church and a former member of Moville Garden Club. She enjoyed sewing, flower gardening and traveling.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Dwight and Joyce Rawson of Kingsley, Iowa; two granddaughters, Joy Kulow and Jana Martens; and four great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Mills.
Harold G. Penning
GRANVILLE, Iowa - Harold F. Penning, 68, of Omaha, formerly of Granville, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Lindenwood Nursing Home in Omaha.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City, Neb.
Mr. Penning was born May 12, 1932, in Granville, the son of Edward and Anna (Klein) Pennig. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He married Deloris Gaul. He later married Beverly Clap on Sept. 4, 1984, in Omaha.
He was employed in the maintenance department of the Omaha Public Schools and the Veterans Hospital.
Survivors include four sons, David and his wife, Ann, Myron and his wife, Jan, Daryl, and Dennis and his wife, Renee; three daughters and their husbands, Nancy and William "Skip" Barbee, Debra and Ed Louria and Laura and Ken Gantz; five sisters; two brothers and their wives, Marvin and Mary and Daniel and Jan; and three sisters and their husbands, Catherine and John Fisher, Roslyn and Richard Mayrose and Elaine and Lou Broughton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Sylvester; and two sisters, Patricia Cole and Doris Mae Penning.
Memorials may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
Lillian C. Stanislav
ONAWA, Iowa - Lillian C. Stanislav, 81, of Onawa died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at her residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Blencoe, Iowa. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.
Mrs. Stanislav was born Nov. 10, 1919, in Weston, Neb., the daughter of Lewis and Mary (Schultz) Paseka. In 1930, she moved with her family to Onawa.
She married John J. Stanislav on Nov. 28, 1939, in Blencoe. He died March 16, 1990, in Onawa.
She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.
Survivors include two sons, Roger of Onawa, and Norman and his wife, Karen of Blencoe; three grandchildren, Michael and Russell Stanislav and Renee Lamprecht; a brother and his wife, Richard and Maurine Paseka of Onawa; and two sisters, Maryann Harrigan of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Margaret Wittmersehouse of Colon, Neb.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Tony; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
