Milton Olson Sr.
Milton H. Olson Sr., 72, of Sioux City died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Olson was born May 15, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Arthur and Vida (Stockwell) Olson. He attended Central High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
He married June E. Spindler on Oct. 19, 1946, in Sioux City. She died May 24, 1994, in Sioux City.
He was employed with Chicago Northwestern Railroad from 1949 to 1965. He was a carrier with the U.S. Postal Service from 1965 until his retirement in 1989.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Harbor Club.
Survivors include two sons, Milton Jr. and David and his wife, Katie, all of Sioux City; three daughters, JoAnn and her husband, Roger Godlevsky, of Glendale, Ariz., Terri Stolpe of Stratham, N.H,. and Jeanne and her husband, Kenneth Barnes, of Robbinsdale, N.M.; his twin brother, Melvin of Hornick, Iowa; two sisters, Shirley Anderson and Gwendolyn Plantz, both of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur Jr.; and an infant sister.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
Regina Stark Kilgore
Regina C. Stark Kilgore, 86, of Sioux City, formerly of Newcastle, Neb., died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New-castle, with the Rev. James Bartak officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Newcastle. Visitation will be noon to 4 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will resume at 5:30 p.m. today, with a parish wake service at 7 p.m., at the church.
Mrs. Kilgore was born April 23, 1912, in Newcastle, the daughter of John P. and Mary E. (Wellenstein) Kneifl. She was raised in the Newcastle area, where she attended rural schools and public high school.
She married Julius Stark on Nov. 25, 1930, in Newcastle. The couple farmed in the Ponca and Newcastle area for many years.
She was employed at Wincharger and Zenith Radio Corporation from 1955 until retiring in 1977. They moved to Sioux City in 1958. He died March 1, 1985.
She was a former member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Lady's Sodality.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Paul F. and Marian Stark of Niobrara, Neb., Ray L. and Kay Stark of Bloomfield, Neb., and Harold E. and Sue Stark of Newcastle; two daughters, Rose Marie and her husband, Jim Munson, of Sioux City and Darlene Handrick of Omaha, Neb.; 22 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, John L. and Eldene Kneifl of La Mirada, Calif.; a sister, Anita Force of South Sioux City; her special friend, Robert Bachmann of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Agnes Kneifl Long of Ponca, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nick and Clarence Kneifl; a sister, Moncia Strauss; four grandchildren, Steve, Doug and Mary Angela Stark and Karen Marie Nelson; a son-in-law, Tod Handrick; a sister-in-law, Helen Dougherty Kneifl; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Force.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brian, Bruce and Rick Stark, Roger Nelson, Mark Handrick and Alan Pischel.
Ruperto Medina
Ruperto Medina, 77, of Sioux City died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Casa de Paz Care Center following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Marvin J. Boes officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Medina was born Oct. 31, 1920, in Questa, N.M., the son of Abad J. and Rosita M. Medina.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He married Olive LeClaire on Jan. 6, 1945, in Sioux City. They moved to Sioux City in 1955. She died on June 16, 1979, in Sioux City.
He was employed as a yard salesman with Payless Cashways for 29 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Survivors include four sons, Rupert "Wayne", John, Dave and Rick Medina, all of Sioux City; six daughters, Marilyn Parker of McCook Lake, S.D., Pat and her husband, Fred Mondragon, of Taos, N.M., Juanita and her husband, John Medina, Linda Medina and Angel Fatland, all of Sioux City, and Violet Frazier of South Sioux City; 32 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son in infancy, six brothers, a sister in infancy and a grandson.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Brandon, Justin and Jason Medina, Travis and Jared Frazier and Dale Parker Sr.
Kinzie P. Wiggins
Kinzie P. Wiggins, 81, of Sioux City died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Donohue Sarff of Morningside Lutheran Church officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Monahan Post 64. There will be no visitation. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Wiggins was born Aug. 10, 1916, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of Louis K. and Ida B. (Buss) Wiggins.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946, where he was a telephone operator and a cook's helper. He served in the Army Reserves from 1946 to 1952.
He was employed with Armour and Company, The Sioux City Journal, Swift and Company and then Rosenthal Foods.
He was a former member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include a nephew and his wife, Ray and Pam Nanek of Jefferson, S.D.; two nieces, Patti Doerstling of Darien, Ill., and Carol Nanek of San Mateo, Calif.; an aunt and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Orville Wiggins; and a sister, Bernice Nanek.
Eugene H. Buehre
Eugene H. Buehre, 77, of Holstein, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday at Holstein Good Samaritan Center.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Riverside Cemetery at Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Darrel W. Hodges
MONDAMIN, Iowa - Darrel W. Hodges, 94, of Logan, Iowa, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at the Westmont Care Center in Logan.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Church of Christ in Mondamin. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, Iowa.
Mr. Hodges was born Nov. 1, 1903, in Mills County, Hillsdale, Iowa, the son of Earl and Abbie (Brower) Hodges. He was raised on farms in Mills and Pottawattamie counties. He moved with his family to a farm near Logan in 1929.
He married Gladys Marie Barnum on Feb. 14, 1927, in Denison, Iowa. The couple farmed in Harrison County for 40 years. They had an apple orchard near Magnolia.
They retired from farming and the orchard in 1983, and moved to Mondamin. She died Oct. 26, 1993. He entered the Westmont Care Center in September 1995.
He was a member of the F and F Community Club in Mondamin. He enjoyed woodworking, making toys and playing pitch.
Survivors include four sons, Elwin L. of Humbolt, Iowa, Leslie G. of Omaha, Neb., Othal G. of Galva, Iowa, and Jerry D. of Moberly, Mo.; four daughters, Norma M. Hick and Janet L. Thomas, both of Omaha, Bonnie L. Cain of Booneville, Ark., and Beverly A. Davis of Missouri Valley, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Leland, Duane and Dennis; two grandsons, Gary and Robin Lynn; a sister, Corrine Tague; and two brothers, Clifford and Leslie.
Donald S. Robinson
PAULLINA, Iowa - Donald S. Robinson, 90, formerly of Paullina, died April 15, 1998, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at First Presbyterian Church in Paullina.
Mr. Robinson was the publisher and editor of the Paullina Times from 1946 to 1968. He began in the weekly newspaper business as a youth in Hartington, Neb., working for the Cedar County News.
He graduated from the Univeristy of Nebraska, Lincoln and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He retired from the newspaper business and then worked for 15 years as the grounds superintendent at the Paullina Golf Club.
He was a member of the Iowa Press Association, the Iowa Golf Superintendents Association and the Sioux City Consistory. In 1983, he was named king of the Paullina Centennial celebration. He enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Davies of Rochester, N.Y., and Joan Foley of Charlotte, N.C., and their families.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine; a brother, Philip H. Robinson Sr.; and a sister, Marian Elliot of Ponca, Neb.
Mary Raymond
MACY, Neb. - Mary (Cline) Raymond, 90, of Macy died Monday, June 29, 1998, at Winnebago Indian Hospital in Winnebago, Neb.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Alfred W. Gilpin Community Building in Macy, with Valentine Parker Jr. in charge. Visitation will be at the Mary Raymond residence in Walthill, Neb., until Thursday, when the body will be taken to the Alfred W. Gilpin Community Building. Munderloh Funeral Home of Pender, Neb., is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Raymond was born Oct. 12, 1907, near Macy, the daughter of Edward and Grace (Walker) Cline. She graduated from Genoa Indian School and attended nursing at Indian School in Grand Island, Neb.
She married John Raymond.
She was employed at the Flandrew Indian School as a housemother. She was also employed at Winnebago Hospital as a cook.
She was a member of the Thaw Daw Daw Bear Clan.
Survivors include two sisters, Naomi Cline Gilpin of Macy and Jeanette Cline Webster of Decatur, Neb.; three grandchildren, Bryan Lewis of Sioux City, Jason Lewis of Norfolk, Neb., and Lisa Lewis of Walthill; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Frank Lewis and LeRoy Warner; and three sisters, Julia Cline Wolfe, Lucy Cline Preston and Grace Cline Yellowwolf.
