Robert Lee
DECATUR, Ala. -- Robert E. "Yankee" Lee, 78, of Decatur, Ala., formerly of Sheffield, died on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital in Decatur, Ala.
Born July 9, 1923, in Fiatt to Joseph and Erma (Estes) Lee, he married Edna Hood Jan. 22, 1966, in Kewanee. She survives.
He attended Annawan schools and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was self employed working in construction.
Survivors also include three sons, Robert E. Lee of Milan, Jimmy Lee of Annawan and Ronnie A. Lee of Wyanet; four daughters, Bonnie Cowan and Karen Murray, both of Decatur, Ala., and Vicki Maupin and Rose M. Nelson, both of Wyanet; two stepdaughters, Joyce Dison of Toulon and Linda Ferner of Sheffield; one brother, Clarence Lee of Sheffield; three sisters, Lorraine Bamber of Alta, Barbara Swanson of Sterling and Gloria Homer of Peoria; 21 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
His parents, two sons and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
James Brown
LASALLE -- James L. Brown, 74, of LaSalle died at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru.
Born Sept. 27, 1927, in LaSalle to Benjamin and Clara (Childs) Brown, he married Aline Wieczorek July 30, 1949, in St. Stephan Church in Chicago. She died Sept. 22, 2001.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the aircraft carrier USS Kwajelein. He worked as an auto mechanic for Curless Buick in LaSalle, Tonelli Buick in Spring Valley, Norm Neff Ford in Peru and then retired from Cheesman Chevy Olds in Spring Valley in 1991. He received numerous technical awards from the Buick Motor Division.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Jeff) Hayes of Mundelein and Alina Brown of Peru; three sons, James M (Karen) Brown of LaSalle, Larry (Debby) Brown of Hennepin and Neal (Trisha) Brown of Dalzell; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Ptak Funeral Home, Peru, and at 11:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. Duane Leclercq officiating. Burial will be in the Peru City Cemetery, with graveside military services performed by the LaSalle-Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, in the funeral home. A scripture service will be conducted at 6 p.m.
Harold Kennedy
HENRY -- Harold E. "Punk" Kennedy, 65, of Warren Street, Henry, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at his home.
Born Aug. 9, 1937, in Sparland to Harold E. and Mildred I. (Davis) Kennedy, he married Nancy Bumgardner July 9, 1984, in Houma, La. She survives.
He was a member of the Henry United Methodist Church, and had owned and operated the Henry Pallet Co. for many years. He was a veteran of the Army Reserves.
Also surviving are one son, Mark E. (Lori) of Eau Galle, Wis.; three daughters, Diana (Tom) Schmitt-Thompson of Lacon, and Kathryn (Ron) Gleich and Sandra Bickerman, both of Henry; one brother, William (Margie) Kennedy of Henry; one sister, Valerie (Ray) Hesselgrave of Houma, La.; five grandchildren, Jake Schmitt, Garrett and Cortney Kennedy, and Alexandra and Tyler Bickerman; and two great-grandchildren, Erik Freund and Logan Gleich.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Ries-McKitrick & Newton Mortuary, Henry, with the Rev. Kenneth Harris officiating. Burial will be in the Henry Cemetery, Henry.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the mortuary.
