Marjorie Pate
GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. -- Marjorie Pauline Pate, 90, formerly of Tiskilwa, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at Desert Pines Elder Care in Green Valley, Ariz.
Born Dec. 16, 1914, in Bradford to George and Kizzie Swearingen, she married Harold Pate July 22, 1933. He died in 1998.
She lived in Tiskilwa most of her life. She moved to Green Valley, Ariz., in 2001 to live with her daughter, Beverly Bachman. She had been residing at Desert Pines Elder Care since March 2004.
Surviving are one daughter, Beverly (Lee) Bachman; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Ronald and Douglas; and one brother and one sister.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Cremation will be accorded.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
Jerry Chelin
PRINCETON -- Jerry L. Chelin, 68, of 18716 1990 East St., Princeton, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at his home.
Born March 8, 1936, in Princeton to Robert and Vivian (Johnson) Chelin, he married Mary J. Simon Aug. 16, 1959, in Princeton. She survives.
He was employed at the Red Covered Bridge Shop for 32 years. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1954.
He was a member of Princeton Elks Lodge 1461, Princeton Moose 1339 and St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
Also surviving are two daughters, Cari (Ron) Pierson and Stacy (Greg) Gonigam, both of Walnut; and four grandchildren, Stephanie and Eric Gonigam, and Ross and Reese Pierson, at home.
His parents preceded him in death.
Services will be private at Elm Lawn Memorial Park Chapel in Princeton, the Rev. Jeffrey Schlesinger officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Valley Hospice.
Nicolina Keller
GRANVILLE -- Nicolina "Nickie" Keller, 73, of Granville died at 4:31 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
Born June 24, 1931, in Chicago to Joseph and Elizabeth (Maggio) Alletto, she married John Keller Jan. 28, 1956, in Chicago. He survives.
She was a housewife and retired from Gonet Insurance in 1991.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Granville.
Also surviving are one son, John (Camille) Keller of Germantown Hills; and one granddaughter, Nicole Lauren.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Helmer-Shields Funeral Home, Granville, and at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Granville, with the Revs. Duane Leclercq and Phillip Davey officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Granville.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, in the funeral home, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to an education fund for her granddaughter, Nicole Lauren.
Gracie Allen
PRINCETON -- Gracie Myrtle Allen, 85, of 910 E. Lincoln St., Princeton, died at 6:17 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.
Born Dec. 14, 1919, south of Wyanet to Rush and Nannie (Perkins) Sprowls, she married Charles Allen Feb. 6, 1946, in Louisville, Ky. He survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Karen (Charlie) Profita of Fort Pierce, Fla.; two grandsons, Keith A. (Darlene) Profita of Monument, Colo., and Kent A. Profita of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and four great-grandchildren, Kyle Profita, Taylor Profita, Jake Profita and Spencer Profita.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Norberg Memorial Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Robert Allen officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Wyanet.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
Mary Zulz
WENONA -- Mary Frances Zulz, 66, of Wenona died at 1:05 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Streator.
Born Sept. 2, 1938, in Springfield to Edward and Frances (Robertson) Carnduff, she married Deacon Charles P. Zulz Oct. 20, 1956, in St. Mary's Church in Wenona. He survives.
She was a graduate of Springfield High School. She worked at Oak State Products in Wenona for 23 years.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church, where she was a member of the choir and its Altar and Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Wenona American Legion Auxiliary. She made Cursillo 488 in Peoria.
Also surviving are her mother of Springfield; three sons, Mark (Mary Jo) Zulz of Washburn, Matthew Zulz of Wenona and Mike (Sheila) Zulz of Hudson; one daughter, Michelle (Todd) Rippel of Rutland; two brothers, Robert (Kathy) Carnduff of Chatham and Michael (Kathy) Carnduff of Pleasant Plains; and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and two grandsons.
Services were held Monday in St. Mary's Church, Wenona, with the Rev. Terry Cassidy, Monsignor Charles Beebe and the Rev. Ray Guthrie concelebrating, assisted by Deacons Vince Slomian and Ronald Rager. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wenona.
Visitation and a prayer service were held Sunday in the church. Visitation also was held Monday in the church.
Memorials may be directed to the Wenona Ambulance Defibrillator Fund or St. Mary's Church in Wenona.
The Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona was in charge of arrangements.
Rex Morse
MALDEN -- Rex L. Morse, 79, of 308 Locust St., Malden, died at noon Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.
Born Oct. 10, 1925, in Davis County, Iowa, to Julius and Edith (Rhodes) Morse, he married Nancy B. Washer June 2, 1946, in the Boyd Grove Church. She died Dec. 22, 2003.
He was a carpenter and did construction.. He was a 1943 graduate of Wyanet High School.
He was a member of the Malden Methodist Church and a past member of the Malden Fire Department.
Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Susan (Kevin) Hale of Tiskilwa; three sons, Richard (Jyl) Morse, Micheal (Colleen) Morse and Gary (Mariann) Morse, all of Malden; two brothers, Wendell Morse of Wyanet and Max (Pat) Morse of Elmwood; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Randal Morse; one brother, Ward (Ethyl) Morse; and one grandson, Justin.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Malden Methodist Church with the Rev. Alan Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton.
Visitation will be one hour before the services in the church.
The Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton is in charge of arrangements.
Alba Cresto
SEATONVILLE -- Alba Cresto, 88, of Seatonville died at 5 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at her son's home in rural Ohio, Ill., after a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 3, 1916, in Standard to Valentine and Lena (Vigette) Data, she married Frank Cresto Sept. 29, 1934, in Chicago. He died July 29, 1976.
She worked for N.O.A. in Ladd for many years, and was a member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Seatonville.
Surviving are two sons, Jim (Claire) Cresto of rural Ohio, Ill., and John Cresto of Rockford; one brother, John (Elenore) Data of Frankfurt; four grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Matthew and April; one great-grandson; and nieces.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Seatonville, with the Rev. Harold Datzman, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be in the Ladd Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, in the funeral home.
