Alwin Carus
LASALLE -- Alwin C. Carus, 102, of 1307 Seventh St., LaSalle, died at 1:10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at his home.
He was born Nov. 20, 1901, in LaSalle to Paul and Mary (Hegeler) Carus.
He and all of his siblings had early home schooling and then graduated from LaSalle-Peru Township High School. He majored in chemistry and physics at the University of Chicago.
He worked in the research laboratory at Carus Chemical Co. until he retired. He also owned and helped operate farms and ranches in Killdeer in the Badlands of North Dakota along the Little Missouri River and 200 miles northwest of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in the Peace River Valley.
He went to Iraq and Turkey in the 1950s to visit ancient archeological sites with a graduate of the Oriental Institute, University of Chicago. He joined several expeditions with renowned astronomers to journey to the best places to view solar eclipses. In all, he witnessed 12 eclipses of the sun.
Survivors include eight nieces and nephews, Mary Louis Carus Mahdi, Paul Carus, Theodate Carus Harter, Blouke Carus, Edward Carus Jr., Bill Barnes, Edward Barnes and Fred Carus; 21 great-nieces and great-nephews; 11 great-great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-great-niece.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be private. Private burial services will be at sunset on Sunday.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Hurst Funeral Home, LaSalle.
Memorials may be directed to the Alwin Carus Memorial Fund for restoration of the mansion.
Rodney Hansen
BRADFORD -- Rodney Lee Hansen, 38, of Bradford died at 9:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, after a car accident on the Bradford-Putnam Blacktop.
Born Aug. 23, 1966, in Peru to Richard and Ruth (Sadnick) Hansen, he married Brenda Hewitt Nov. 15, 2002, in Princeton. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Christopher Hansen of Woodridge and Dakota Hansen of Bradford; two stepsons, Michael and Dominick Catton of Sheffield; his parents of Bradford; one brother, Tim Hansen of Geneseo; and one sister, Cathie (Tom) Walters of Wyanet.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
He was a 1985 graduate of Bradford High School. He was an over-the-road truck driver. He owned and operated his own business.
He was a member of the Leet Memorial United Methodist Church and its choir.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Bradford, with the Rev. Lee Legg officiating. Burial will be in the Bradford Cemetery, Bradford.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Stanley Gorski
DALZELL -- Stanley "Pete" Gorski, 97, formerly of Dalzell, lately of St. Joseph Nursing Home in Lacon, died at 3:50 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at the nursing home.
Born March 6, 1907, in LaSalle to Jacob and Frances (Szymanski) Gorski, he married Emma Lishewski Sept. 4, 1932, in Oregon, Ill. She died Feb. 24, 1992.
He had worked at Westclox in Peru for 49 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Westclox Quarter Century Club, St. Valentine Church in Peru and St. Thomas More Church in Dalzell.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald (Mary Jane) Gorski of McNabb and Wayne (Rita) Gorski of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Valentine Catholic Church, Peru, with the Rev. Philip Davey, O.S.B., officiating, and the Revs. Thomas Badovsky and Patrick Fennell, O.S.B., as concelebrants. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, LaSalle.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the church.
Earl Connor
OWENSBORO, Ky. -- Earl E. Connor, 80, of 1708 Shawnee Drive, Owensboro, Ky., died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System.
He was born April 21, 1924, in Jackson County, Ill., to the Louis Arden and Anna (Brantley) Connor.
He received a degree in merchandising from St. Louis University. He retired after 54 years of employment with International Shoe Inc. He was the founder of Oney's Shoes and Oney's Apartments and operated both for 25 years. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Pate Chapel Church in Murphysboro, Ill., and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Iona Connor; two sons, Daniel Connor of Branson, Mo., and Rodger Connor of Owensboro, Ky.; two daughters, Hazel Juanita Davis of Hawaii and Kathy Bass-King of Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service was held Nov. 18 in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Sorgho, Ky.

Iona Connor
OWENSBORO, Ky. -- Iona F. "Oney" Connor, 79, of 1708 Shawnee Drive, Owensboro, Ky., died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, in the Leisure Years Nursing Home in Owensboro.
She was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Illinois to John A. and Leona (Nissen) Lange.
She was the owner of Oney's Shoes. She attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (Robert) Bass-King of Springfield, Mo., and Hazel Juanita (Norman) Davis of Honokaa, Hawaii; two sons, Daniel E. Connor of Branson, Mo., and Rodger (Ruth) Connor of Owensboro, Ky.; three brothers, Herbert Lange of Princeton, Donald Lange of Walnut and Harold Lange of Malden; six grandchildren, Clinton A. Connor, Robin Woodard, Dana Murphy, Tina Connor, Shaheen Plunier and Hamid Davis; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Earl E. Connor, on Nov. 9, 2004.
A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 8 in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Sorgho, Ky.
Visitation is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 8 in the church.
The James H. Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Margarete Yonk
WALNUT -- Margarete Frances Yonk, 88, of 122 Wyanet Road, Walnut, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at the Walnut Manor Nursing Home in Walnut.
Born Nov. 11, 1916, in Edinburg to Floyd and Hazel Fern (Hart) Brown, she married Keith I. Yonk Feb. 28, 1943, in Walnut. He died June 3, 2000.
She graduated as valedictorian of her high school graduating class. She also graduated with high honors from Illinois State University with a degree in education and was a member of the Bryant Club. She was a teacher of mathematics and Latin at Walnut High School for 28 years and one year at LaMoille High School.
She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Walnut Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Alan (Dianne) Yonk of Idaho Falls, Idaho; two grandsons, Jonathan Yonk of Madrid, Spain, and Justin of Richmond, Wash.; and three nephews and one niece.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ludora Sharp.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Garland Funeral Home, Walnut, with the Rev. Paul Nolden, pastor of the Walnut United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before the services in the funeral home.
