Gladys Malm
PRINCETON -- Gladys Marie Malm, 83, of 430 E. Farnham St., Princeton, died at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at her home.
Born March 25, 1921, in rural Bureau County to Swan and Nannie (Anderson) Anderson, she married Richard R. Malm March 9, 1963, in Princeton. He died March 17, 1995.
She was a 1939 graduate of Princeton High School. She had worked as office help in the insurance field.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Ladies Circle at the church and Home Extension Unit.
Survivors include one sister, Helen Anderson of Princeton, and numerous cousins.
She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today, Saturday, in the First Lutheran Church, Princeton, with the Rev. Jerome Diers officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton.
Visitation will be one hour before the services in the church.
Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church.
Marvin Ackeberg
WALNUT -- Marvin T. Ackeberg, 84, a resident of Walnut Manor Nursing Home in Walnut, formerly of Tampico, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at the home.
Born Feb. 10, 1920, in Mendon, Mo., to Fingal and Minnie (Anderson) Ackeberg, he married Berniece Rosenow April 13, 1957, in Tampico. She died Jan. 22, 2003.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa as an aircraft mechanic. He was employed at the Servus Rubber Co. in Rock Island after the war until he started farming in the Tampico and Walnut area. He served on the Tampico Volunteer Fire Department until he moved to Walnut.
Survivors include one sister, Dorothy (Sam) Moose of Moline; one brother, Howard (Thera) Ackeberg of Mesa, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, in the Garland Funeral Home, Walnut, with the Rev. Ron Eckberg officiating. Burial will be in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery, Tampico.
Visitation will be one hour before the services in the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Walnut Manor Nursing Home or the Walnut United Methodist Church.
Henrietta Stobierski
PRINCETON -- Henrietta Stobierski, 80, of Princeton, formerly of Niles, died on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.
She was born April 12, 1924, in Poland. She married Raymond Stobierski Oct. 6, 1945, in France. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Teresa Hughes, and Diane (Dave) Hore; and four grandchildren.
Two children, Connie and Ronnie, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at noon Monday at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles. Burial will be in Maryhill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday until time of the services.
Ralph Coffman
SPRING VALLEY -- Ralph "Sarge" Coffman, 71, of Spring Valley died at 3:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Hines V.A. Hospital in Maywood after an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 30, 1933, in Sun, W.Va., to Frank and Vonia (Dempsey) Coffman.
He retired from Caterpillar's Mossville Plant. He served in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1969, serving in Vietnam where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Expert Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Medal, Vietnam Services Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Survivors include three daughters, Debra Shaughnessy of Ottawa, Teri Dobson of Spring Valley, and Karen Shurts of Spring Valley; three sisters, Marie (Herbert) Manley of Holden, W.Va., Lillian Gill of Oak Hill, W.Va., and Frances (Bill) Mullens of Ravenswood, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
His parents, six brothers and one sister all preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley, the Rev. Chuck Maney officiating. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park with full military rites conducted by the Veterans Memorial Group of LaSalle and Oglesby.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice or to the family.
Ruby McLaughlin
MENDOTA -- Ruby C. McLaughlin, 75, of Mendota, formerly of Sublette, died on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at the Mendota Lutheran Home.
Born Feb. 12, 1929, in Sublette to Arthur and Clara (Sibigtroth) Leffelman, she married Jerome McLaughlin on Feb. 17, 1947, in Maytown. He survives of Sublette.
She was a 1946 graduate of Amboy High School. She was a ward clerk at Mendota Community Hospital for 10 years, a CNA at Mendota Lutheran Home for four years, and worked in home health for four years until her retirement. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society.
Also surviving are three sons, Norman (Jennie) of Rochelle, Tim (Barbara) of Rockford, Roger (Kathleen) of Yorkville; three daughters, Marian (John) Bickett of LaMoille, Monica (David) Weeks of LaMoille, and Nadine (Daniel) Koch of Rochelle; two brothers, Norbert (Marie) Leffelman of Maples Park, and Gilbert (Linda) Leffelman of Dixon; three sisters, Vivian (Dan) Burke of Dixon, Carol (Charles) Koch of FonDuLac, Wis., Norma (Leo) Bushman of Sublette; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Her parents, three grandchildren and two brothers all preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today, Saturday, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Sublette, the Rev. Edward Hughes officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Maytown.
Visitation was held Friday in Schwarz Funeral Home in Mendota and for one hour prior to the services in the church.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, the Mendota Lutheran Home or the Sublette Fire Department.
Dean Bonnell
LAMOILLE -- Dean L. Bonnell, 62, of LaMoille died on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Colonial Hall Nursing Home in Princeton.
He was born March 18, 1942, in Sublette to Irie and Irma (Stouffer) Bonnell.
He attended Amboy High School. He worked at Ag View FS Inc. and was a member of the Hollowayville United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his mother of Amboy; one daughter, Dawn (Tom) McInnis of Springfield; two sisters, Rose (Larry) Leffelman of Sublette, and Jane (Terry) Garland of Dixon; four brothers, Dick (June) Bonnell and Bill (Ruth) Bonnell, both of LaMoille, Mike (Kathy) Bonnell of Amboy, and Russell (Jeanette) Bonnell of Dixon; and two grandsons.
His father and one brother, Tony, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Community United Methodist Church in LaMoille, the Rev. Mike Slutz officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in LaMoille.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Schwarz Funeral Home in Mendota and one hour prior to the services in the church.
Memorials may be made to the Hollowayville United Church of Christ or the LaMoille Fire and Ambulance Department.
Robert Goodwin
PRINCETON -- Robert A. Goodwin, 65, of Princeton, formerly of Freeport, died on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at University Hospital in Madison, Wis.
He was born Jan. 14, 1939, in Madison, Wis., to Allen L. and Ann (Hauser) Goodwin.
He retired in 1995 after working 35 years for Micro Switch. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Pam (Chuck) Hodapp of Princeton, and Bonnie (Tom) Moore of Lena; a special friend, Veronica DeBore of Freeport; Sheila Goodwin; three brothers, William Goodwin of Madison, Wis., Mike (Karen) Schmitz, and Gene Schmitz; two sisters, Marge (Gerald) Murphy and Mary Ann (Martin) Banvelos; four grandchildren, Troy Hodapp, Angie (Shawn) Russell, Mike (Rachel) Mowery, and Brandi (Damon) Pax; and four great-grandchildren, Tommy Russell, Kendra Russell, Dana Russell, and Mercedes Mowery.
His parents and one brother, Ken, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Msgr. P. William McDonnell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport.
