HELEN MARY LEONARDO
Of Palatine

Helen Mary (nee Callahan) Leonardo died Apr. 9 at Rosewood of Inverness. Born to James Callahan and Ellen (Nellie) Kelly on June 11, 1914, she lived in Palatine. She lived with six brothers and a sister, and each had a nickname ­ she went by Yak. She became Mrs. Leonardo on June 28, 1936, when she married Anthony Joseph Leonardo. They had a girl who died at birth, but raised two children, Anthony James and Helen Amelia. After Anthonyis death in 1997, she moved in with Helen and son-in-law George. Illness forced her to move four and a half years ago to Rosewood Care Center in Inverness, where she loved to entertain the other residents with her Irish humor. Mrs. Leonardo was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; his parents, Vito and Emelia (nee DeAndre); sister Margaret Mary "Sis" Buerger; brothers James, Emmett, Clarence "Joe, " Raymond "Jack, " Melvin "Guin, " and Francis "Bobby"; and brothers-in-law Joseph, Louis and Daniel Leonardo. She is survived by her son Anthony (Phyllis) and daughter Helen (George) Lasser; grandchildren Anthony (Linda), Phyllis (Mike) Sheehan, Jennifer (William) Zulawski, John "Duke" (Christine) Stone; step-grandchildren Julie (Jake) Walsh and Amy Lasser (fiancée Scott Selcke); great-grandchildren Samantha and Megan Sheehan, Katie Leonardo, Brenna William, Anthony and Patrick Joseph Zulawski and Thomas Anthony Stone; sisters-in-law Margaret, Eleanor and Anne Callahan; brother-in-law Stephen Leonardo and many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place Apr. 14 at Meadows Funeral Home. Burial was at Queen of Heaven cemetery, Hillside.

RAYMOND J. McAVOY
of Des Plaines

A funeral mass for Raymond J. McAvoy, 72, took place on Tuesday, Apr. 18 with prayers at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines then to St. Stephen Church in Des Plaines. Interment was private. Visitation was Monday, Apr. 17. Mr. McAvoy was born on April 26, 1933, in Chicago, to James and May McAvoy. He was a member of the Eagle Social Club and Shady Haven Mobile Park of Englewood, Fla. He was also a member of the Spruce St. Athletic Club, Northwood Retreat & Fishing Club, the NRA, and the Plumbers Local 130. He died on April 13 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosalyn (nee Tedrick), and a sister, Elaine (Edward) Kazmierczak. He was the father of Laurey (George) Caldwell, Thomas (Susan) McAvoy, and Jennifer (Patrick) McAvoy-Anteau; fond grandfather of 12; great-grandfather of 11; and brother of James (Alice) McAvoy, Daniel (Jana) McAvoy, and Gerald (Sandra) McAvoy. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Stephen Church or the American Cancer Society are appreciated. Funeral arrangements were made by Oehler Funeral Home.

RICHARD R. MISSAR

Funeral services will be held for Richard Missar, 75, of Mt. Prospect on Thursday, Apr. 20 at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 19 at the funeral home, 2099 Miner St. Interment is private. Born July 3, 1930, Missar died Apr. 13 at his home in Naples, Fla. Mr. Missar lived in Mt. Prospect for 39 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and served during the Korean War. He attended Harvard Business School and became the CEO of DeSoto Inc. of Des Plaines. Survivors include his widow Jacqueline; children Connie (Cy) Taggart, Karen (John) Boich, Kathy (Scott) Giere; eight grandchildren Katyln, Kelly, Mallory, Nathan, Jack, Elena, Mackenzie, Michael; and sister Lorraine Kuncl. Memorials may be sent to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

ROBERT F. NEWLON
WWII Veteran

A funeral Mass for Robert F. Newlon, 78, took place on Wednesday, Apr. 12 with chapel prayers at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village then to St. Zachary Church in Des Plaines. Interment was at Ridgewood cemetery. Visitation was on Tuesday, Apr. 11. Mr. Newlon was born in Chicago. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and was a member of GCIU, the Des Plaines Elks Club, and the American Legion. He died Sunday, Apr. 9, at his home. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Susan Schiffman and Katie Newlon. He was the beloved husband of Rosemarie (nee Gilloffo); loving father of Lynne (Michael) Drake, and the brother-in-law of Nancy Faris; dear grandfather of nine, and great-grandfather of three; brother of eight; and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements were made by Grove Memorial Chapel.

JEANETTE M. PIESKE
Of Niles

A funeral service for Jeanette M. Pieske (nee Schuler), 80, took place on Saturday, Apr. 15 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles. Interment was at Arlington cemetery. Visitation was Friday, Apr. 14. Mrs. Pieske was born on Apr. 26, 1925. She worked as a store clerk in a pharmacy. She died on Apr. 12 at Alexian Brothers Hospice House. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth her brother Lt. Gordon Schuler-Raschke, her grandchildren Jason Katz and Tim Krause, and her parents Peter Schuler and Jeanette Schuler (nee Busch). She was the loving mother of Diane (Henry) Zatz and Gordon (Mary); dear grandmother of Aaron, Cari-lyn and Alissa Zatz, Gina (Tony) Busch, and Tina Pieske; great-grandmother of Nicole, Grace and Anthony; cherished sister of Charlotte (late William) McQuillan, fond aunt of many; and friend of Bud Webster. Funeral arrangements were made by Skaja Terrace Funeral Home.

MARGARET F. SOCHUREK
Niles Office Clerk

A funeral Mass for Margaret F. Sochurek, 87, of Niles, was held Apr. 18 in St. John Brebeuf Church, Niles. Burial followed in Maryhill cemetery. Arrangements were by Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. A native of Chicago, she died Apr. 11 in Bethany Terrace Nursing Home. She worked as an office clerk and was a member of the St. John Brebeuf Golden Agers and the Niles Senior Center. Widow of the late Richard Sochurek, she is survived by siblings Helen (Edward) Klean, Blanche (the late James) Eliasek, and Evelyn (Dan) Blaha, and many nieces and nephews.

YOLANDA D. QUILLE
Des Plaines Resident

Yolanda D. Quille, 85, of Des Plaines, died on Feb. 26 in Rapid City, South Dakota. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Apr. 22 at St. Maryis Church in Des Plaines. Interment will follow at noon in Mount Carmel cemetery in Hillside. VERA SIMPSON
Retired Teacher

A funeral Mass for Vera B. Simpson, 91, of Park Ridge was held at Park Ridge Presbyterian Church on April 13. Interment in Town of Maine cemetery. Mrs Simpson died on Apr. 10 at Lutheran General Hospital. She worked as a teacher in Elk Grove Twp. School Dist. 59 from 1956 to 1983. She was the wife of the late Guy; mother of Vera (Bill) Neumann; grandmother of Jonathan, Geoffrey, Andrew, Holly and Colin; sister of the late William (late Alberta) Burgard, Ezra (late Lola and late Velma) Burgard, Eddie Burgard, Clara (late Kenneth) Easley and Harold (late Nelda) Burgard. Service officiated by Rev. James McCracken at Park Ridge Presbyterian Church. Funeral arrangements by Nelson Funeral Home, Park Ridge.

LYDIA A. WIDMER
Age 100

Lydia A. Widmer (nee Wurth), formerly of Berwyn, passed away Apr. 13 at Lutheran Home in Arlington Hts. Mrs. Widmer served many years as a teacheris aid at Seguin School for mentally retarded children in Berwyn. She also served as a Sunday School secretary and played the piano. Mrs. Widmer was married for 44 years to the late Edward A. Widmer. She was also preceded in death by siblings Fred Wurth, Minnie Cromwell and Mamie Kopping. She is survived by daughter Marion (the late Richard) Rayner and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation took place Monday at Meadows Funeral Home. Services were Tuesday at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Berwyn, followed by interment at Woodland cemetery in Forest Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John United Church of Christ in Arlington Hts. or Trinity Community United Church of Christ in Berwyn.

ROBERT T. BEARCE
of Park Ridge

A funeral service for Robert T. "Bob" Bearce, 86, was held on Monday, Oct. 16 at G.L. Hills Funeral Home. Interment was at Ridgewood cemetery. Mr. Bearce was born on May 7, 1920 in Chicago. He was a resident of Park Ridge for 20 years. He worked as an export manager and retired from Justrite Management Company. He was a nationally known, award-winning daylily hybridizer. He was a member of the American Hermerocallis Society, the Chicagoland Daylily Society and the North Shore Iris and Daylily Society. He was also known for his acrylic paintings, a hobby of his after retirement. He died on Oct. 7, 2006 at St. Matthew's Center for Health in Park Ridge. Mr. Bearce is survived by his sister Patricia (late Norman) Gohl, nieces Susan (David) McCurdy and Margaret McCurdy, nephew Douglas McCurdy, and friend Leonard Clarke. In lieu of flowers, memorials to one's favorite charity in his name.

JUDITH K. EGGERS
of Mt. Prospect

A visitation and funeral for Judith K. Eggers (nee Lense) 68, took place on Monday, Oct. 16 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine. She was interred at Bethania cemetery in Justice, Ill. Mrs. Eggers was born on July 10, 1938 in Chicago. She worked as a chemist for Gould Inc. and Amoco Oil for many years. She died Friday, Oct. 13 at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Hts. She was preceded in death by parents Edwin and Norma Lense. She is survived by daughter Gail (Bradley) Quarberg, grandchildren Nicolas and Merideth Quarberg, sisters Mariellen Lense and Anita (Walter) Schuble, and niece Gretchen Schuble. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements made by Meadows Funeral Home.

ANNE F. HENDZEL
of Park Ridge

A funeral service for Ann F. Hendzel, 85, took place on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. A Mass will followed at St. Juliana Church in Chicago. Visitation took place on Friday, Oct. 13. Interment will be at St. Adalbert cemetery. Ms. Hendzel was born on Nov. 12, 1930. She was a homemaker for her family and a member of the Polish Women's Alliance of America. She died on Oct. 9, 2006 at her home. Ms. Hendzel is preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Sophie Piekarz, sister Eleanore (late Matt) Burch and brother Stanley (Lottie) Piekarz. She is survived by her son Theodore S. (Carol), daughters Dolores (Frank) Cavalluzzi and Diane (Nolan) Birkenkamp, grandchildren Kelly Hendzel, Erin (Jake) Heringer, David (Samantha) Birkenkamp, Jim (Tracy) Birkenkamp and Kate Hendzel, great grandchild Evan Birkenkamp, sister Mary (late John) Cierny and brother Mitchel (Pat) Piekarz.

KATHRYN E. HOCH
of Elk Grove Village

A funeral service for Kathryn E. Hoch (nee Parker), 61, took place on Saturday at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village. Mrs. Hoch was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She died Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Margery Parker. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Robert Hoch, loving children Steve (Sue) Hoch, Tom (Sandy) Hoch, Christian (Trisha) Hoch, and Karin Hoch, her cherished grandchildren Robert, Francesca, Sarah, Taylor, and Emma, and her fond siblings Christopher (Grace) Parker, Lee (Roger) Nickle, and Stephanie (Glenn) Fleming. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.

CATHERINE T. O'GRADY
of Edison Park

A funeral service for Catherine T. O'Grady (nee Hyland), 70, will take place Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jullana Church. Mass at 11:30 a.m. Visitation took place Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Cooney Funeral Home in Park Ridge. She will be interred at All Saints cemetery. Mrs. O'Grady was a native of Kilasser County Mayo, Ireland. She died Friday, Oct. 13. She was preceded in death by her brother Paddy O'Grady. She is survived by her beloved husband Michael, devoted children Michael (Jennifer), James (Lisa), Noreen and Kathy, beloved grandchildren Katie, Abbey, Eamon, Delaney and Shannon, dear siblings Dan (the late Georgina) Hyland, Val (Chris) Hyland, May (Seamus) Durkan, and Bridle (Eamon) Egan. She was the fond aunt of many.

MARY C. PAPA
of Schaumburg

A funeral service and visitation for Mary C. Papa (nee Duffle), 95, took place on Friday, Oct. 13 at the Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Mrs. Papa was interred at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines. Mrs. Papa was born January 26, 1911 in Hindsboro, Ill. A longtime General Electric employee, she died Oct. 10, 2006 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. Mrs. Papa was preceded in death by her husband Frank J. Papa and her sisters Bernice Heaton, Doris Dunn, and Reafie Beauchamp. She is survived by her sister Marie (late Paul) Samelsen, her niece Linda (Carl) McHugh, and her great nephew Colin (Amber) McHugh and Clinton (Susan) McHugh. She was great great aunt to two.

FLORENCE PAUTER
of Niles

A funeral service for Florence Pauter, 86, took place at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home and at St. John Brebeuf Church on Saturday, Oct. 7. Visitation was held at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 6. Ms. Pauter was born on March 2, 1920 in Chicago. She died Thursday, Oct. 5 at Regency Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Pauter. She is survived by friends Vaughn Sobczyk and Norbert Sobczyk.

ALMA RIEMER
of Park Ridge

Alma Louise Virginia Riemer nee Johnson, 88, passed away Oct. 7. She was born March 19, 1918. She worked for Douglas Aircraft during World War II and was a member of Queen Ester Chapter 41. O.E.S. burial will be at sea in Isla Morada, Florida, near Alligator Lighthouse. Mrs. Riemer was preceded in death by her husband, Dave, parents Alma and Victor Johnson, and siblings Mabel Riemer, George Johnson, and Mabel Johnson. She is survived by sons Lee (Jany) and Jeff, grandchildren and "apple of her eyes" Renee and Justin, and dear friend "til the end" Judith O'Tura. Funeral arrangements made by Nelson Funeral Home, Park Ridge.

CATHERINE G. TASCHE
of Elk Grove Village

A funeral service for Catherine G. Tasche took place on Thursday, Oct. 12 at the Monroe Center Community Church, in Monroe Center, Ill. Visitation was held at the church that morning. Additional visitation was Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village. Interment was at Monroe Center cemetery. Catherine was preceded in death by beloved husband Henry W. and son Henry R. (Tamara Leikam). She is survived by loving children Leon (Karen) Tasche and Cheryl (Roger) Ruchtl, and cherished grandchildren Lindsay, Kendall, Thomas, and Lauren Tasche. She also leaves many loved nieces, nephews, and friends.

ALOYSIUS P. ANGSTEN
of Park Ridge

A funeral service for Aloysius P. "Al" Angsten, 91, will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Visitation was Tuesday from 3-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Memory Gardens. Mr. Angsten worked at Maine East High School for over 42 years. He was superintendent of Grounds and Maintenance and was also a Park Ridge volunteer firefighter. He later became first assistant fire chief until his retirement in 1968. Mr. Angsten enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing, and was also a devoted Chicago White Sox, Bears, and Blackhawks fan. Mr. Angsten is preceded in death by his siblings Marcella, Mathias "Fritz", Peter "Jim", Lucille, Phyllis "Jean", Jerome, and JoAnne. He is survived by his wife LaVergne L. "Bernie", children Allen N. (Elaine) and Linnea (Jerry) Qualter, grandchildren Cheryl (Bob) Bacigalupo and Lori (Tony) Madl, and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Thomas J. and Robert P.
