The mass and Christian burial of Jim Smith, 72, was held Thursday, Apr. 2 at St. Raymond de Penafort Church, Mt. Prospect. Interment was private. Born Sept. 29, 1936, Mr. Smith passed away Thursday, Mar. 26, following complications from diabetes. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy, assigned to the U.S.S. Kearsarge aircraft carrier. He was active at St. Raymond, serving on the parish council. He received a Mt. Prospect Shining Star award for organizing the Pine-Wille Marching Kazoo Irregulars, a kazoo-playing band and popular entry in the village's Fourth of July parade for three decades. The husband of Pat, he always supported her many volunteer opportunities. Father of Drew (Lisa) of Arlington Hts., Scot (Mary) of Palatine, Paul (Denise) of Berkeley and Mark (Jennifer) of Arlington Hts. Grandfather of Ian, Audie, Moira, Alec, Paige, Caroline, Lochlan, Seamus, Mirin and Keegan. Brother of the late Betty McDermott (Jack); brother-in-law of Nancy Kost (Peter). Uncle of Christy Ausmus, Mike Kost and many cousins.

A funeral mass for Daniel B. (Dale) Starzyk, 77, a trucking company owner from Mt. Prospect, was celebrated in St. Thomas Becket Church on Apr. 4. Interment followed in All Saints cemetery. Arrangements were made by Friedrichs Funeral Home. A native of Chicago, he died Mar. 31 in Glenview. A graduate of DePaul Academy and DePaul University, he was an Army veteran and owner of Star Trucking. Surviving are his widow, Cecile Marie; children Jeanne Scheffler, Carol Lynn (Andy) Norman, Danny (Jacquie), Joanne (John) Sanford, Mary Jo (Jacob) Mount, and Andrew; and grandchildren Brett, Bradley, Lauren, Alex, Krista, Jessica, Ryan, Dylan, and Braden.

A funeral service for Dorothy L. Swanson (nee Patterson), 77, took place Thursday, Apr. 16 at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village. Interment will be at Skyline Memorial Park in Monee. She was born in Evanston. She died on Apr. 12, 2009 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Her husband James R. preceded her in death. Her children Daniel D. (fiancée, Amy) Swanson, Donna L. (Tim) Fuller, and Denise E. (Tony) Caruso survive her.

A funeral mass for Mildred D. Warwick, 85, of Glenview, was celebrated Apr. 16 in St. Catherine Laboure Church. Burial followed in Ridgewood cemetery. Arrangements were by Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, Niles. A native of Chicago, she died Apr. 14 in Glenbrook Hospital. She was a homemaker. Widow of the late James E. Warwick, she is survived by children Zack (Linda), and Mary Kay (Richard) Van Ooyen; and grandchildren Daniel (Tracy) Warwick, Theresa (Phillip) Randall, Eric Warwick; and several great-grandchildren.

Paul E., Williams III was born on Feb. 22, 1934 in Petersburg, Va., to Paul E. Jr. and Ann Williams. He passed away on Mar. 26 in Arlington Hts. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jeane S. Williams; his children, Ann Cameron (Joseph) Caldwell of Bethesda, MD, Randolph (Jennifer) Williams of Palatine, Paul E. IV (Elizabeth) Williams of Austin, TX, and Elizabeth (Steve) Jacobs of Austin, TX; his grandchildren, Geoffrey Mikol, C.J., Kylie Jeane and Cameron Drew Williams, Adam Jacobs and Tara Peel; sisters, Ann Lewis of Charlotte, NC and Elizabeth (Richmond) Zehmer of Petersburg, VA. Born July 24, 1939, she passed away Tuesday, Apr. 7. She is survived by her husband, Thomas A. Braun and her children, Lynn Braun Montgomery (Mark) and Christopher Thomas Braun and Jill Braun Maher (John) and her grandchildren, Alex Montgomery and Matthew Montgomery and Ethan Thomas Maher. Her brother, Daniel Horvath, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert H. Breidinger, 79 of Belvidere, formerly of Rolling Meadows, died Friday, Apr. 17 at Swedish American in Belvidere after a sudden illness. Born on Aug. 7, 1929 in Chicago, he married
Clara Quist in 1951 and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Clara; children David (Judy) Breidinger, Kirk Breidinger, Karen (Paul) Jasczynski, Norine (Richard) Fendrych, Steven Breidinger and Roy Breidinger; seven grandchildren, sister, Lucille. He is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Linda. Funeral services were held Saturday, Apr. 25. Burial in Belvidere cemetery with military honors.

'Bobo the Clown'
Wilbur O. Foss, 86, of Chicago, died Mar. 31 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove. Born Jan. 11, 1923 in Chicago, he served in the Army and was stationed in Italy when World War II ended. He was a Master Mason and one of the founders of the Medinah Clown Unit. He was also a member of Park Ridge Masonic Lodge 988. Friend of his former wife, Bernice Foss; father of Wayne Foss. Visitation was Friday, Apr. 3. until Masonic service, under the direction of the Park Ridge Lodge, at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Interment was Apr. 11 at Mt. Emblem cemetery in Elmhurst.

George Kostrzewski, 81, of Des Plaines died on Apr. 16. He was born May 18, 1927 in Poland. Visitation took place Monday, Apr. 20 at Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines Chapel. Prayers were said Tuesday, Apr. 21 at Our Lady of Hope Church in Rosemont. Entombment in All Saints Mausoleum. A banking, marketing and financial consultant, he also did voice over for radio commercials. He was founder of Martindale and Associates. Father of David (Mary), J. Thomas (Connie), Michael (Cindy), Jeff and the late Gregg (Patty) Martindale. Grandfather of Laura, Karen, Mallory and Lindsey. James W. Schaefer, Jr, 74, of Des Plaines, formerly of Park Ridge, died Apr. 18 at Claremont Rehab & Living Center in Buffalo Grove. Mr. Schaefer was a 30-year drummer in "The Riverboat Ramblers, " a New Orleans jazz band. He was also a long-time member of the Park Ridge Lions Club and former executive director of the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce. Father of James III, Tracey Meicher, Thomas (Mariah) and John (Jennifer); grandfather of Keith, Mason, Abigail and Samantha; former husband of Marlene. Funeral was held Thursday, Apr. 23, from Ryan-Parke Funeral Home to St. Paul of the Cross Church. Interment in Town of Maine cemetery.

A memorial chapel service for Robert R. Scott, 82, will take place Wednesday, May 6 at 1 p.m. at St. Adalbert cemetery in Niles. Cremation was at Funeral Directors Crematory in Berwyn. Mr. Scott was born on Aug. 14, 1926 in Rib Lake, Wisc. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He died on Apr. 15 at Lee Manor Nursing Home in Des Plaines. Mary (nee Forys) Scott, his wife of 61 years, and his daughter Mary (Robert) Dulaitis survive him. Kopicki's Heritage Funeral Home in Berwyn made funeral arrangements.
